Luminescent solar concentrators (LSC) allow to obtain renewable energy from building integrated photovoltaic systems. As promising efficient and long-term stable LSC fluorophores semiconductor nanocrystals like Quantum dots (QDs) with size and composition tunable optoelectronic properties have recently emerged. The most popular II/VI or IV/VI semiconductor QDs contain, however, potentially hazardous cadmium or lead ions, which is a bottleneck for commercial applications. A simple aqueous based, microwaveassisted synthesis for environmentally friendly and highly emissive AgInS2/ ZnS QDs is developed using 3-mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) and glutathione (GSH) and their incorporation into polylaurylmethacrylate (PLMA) polymer slabs integrable in LSC devices (10.4 × 10.4 × 0.2 cm3, G = 12.98).
With this simple approach, optical power efficiencies (OPE) of 3.8% and 3.6% and optical quantum efficiencies (OQE) of 24.1% and 27.4% are obtained, which are among the highest values yet reported.
Within the last years the use of feasible alternative energy sources has risen and is going to replace fossil resources more and more. Nevertheless, service conditions in solar facilities are due to the chemical composition of heat transmission media and temperatures, in many cases, extreme in terms of corrosion. Since the construction of power plants shall be economical with maximum life service, materials selection based on preliminary material qualification is essential to guarantee a secure and reliable operation of those facilities.
The materials selection depends on the operation temperature of a power plant on the chemical composition of the transmission fluid used. In high corrosive environments Ni-based alloys are often used as an all-round solution for the construction of corrosion resistant parts, because of their good corrosion properties. However, there might be limits for their use regarding their corrosion behavior, with which this contribution deals.
By means of electrochemical measurements and exposure tests the suitability of two high alloyed materials X8NiCrSi38 18 and NiCr25FeAlYB in molten nitrate salt (60 % NaNO3/40 % KNO3) was characterized at 600 °C.

Experiences from the electrochemical characterization of materials in aqueous solutions are transferred to molten salts, providing a good addition to common exposure tests at temperatures from 450 0C to 600 0C.
By means of electrochemical measurements and exposure tests the suitability of high alloyed materials in molten nitrate salt (60 % NaNO3/40 % KNO3) can be characterized. The method was verified on different Ni-based alloys (UNS N08810, UNS N06600) and Titanium (UNS R50250).
Along with the globally increasing energy demand the application of renewable energy sources is
urgently required. According to national regulations and international treaties (e.g. Kyoto Protocol)
these sources shall be sustainably available at reasonable financial effort and non-polluting during
production, use and waste treatment. Using photovoltaic sources (PV), these requirements can
clearly be met. All industry has to follow the best available technology and an integrative life cycle
approach for their products and production. PV thin film technology strictly responds to this obligation.
In order to save material resources and to minimise undesirable landfill recycling of spent PV
modules is necessary. Recycling of multi-component materials containing mixed metals typically
consists of three parts: liberation, separation, and recovery. In our study (RESOLVED an EU
Demonstration Project) the focus is on liberation and separation. The converting layer (CdTe) was
liberated (removed) from the glass carrier by sandblasting and separated subsequently from the
blast material (e.g. corundum) and other components using stepwise different separation techniques.
Both the glass substrate and CdTe are subject to re-use. The overall feasibility of the recycling
process is primarily governed by the efficiency of the procedure applied to the separation of CdTe
from the rest (blasting material, glass residues, etc.). This was performed by water-based flotation.
Several flotation procedures were studied regarding their separation yields. The distribution of
CdTe in the phases involved (flotate, water, residue) was measured using energy dispersive X-ray
fluorescence spectrometry (EDXRS) intended for future routine application and by instrumental
large-volume photon activation analysis (IPAA) as a reference procedure. The results of both analytical
methods were in satisfactory agreement.
