The main objective was to assess homogeneity of two bimodal gold materials, namely nPsize1 and nPSize2, containing approximately 1:1 and 10:1 particle number-based ratio of ~30nm and ~60nm particles. Particle number-based concentration within the two size fractions was determined with spICP-MS using the particle frequency method of calibration.
A state-of-the-art (SOTA) review on characterisation of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) properties in terms of source term and inventory assessment (neutron, gamma-ray emission, decay heat, radionuclide inventory, elemental content) and in terms of out-of-core fuel performance (cladding performance and fuel integrity in view of the safety criteria for SNF interim storage, transport and canister packaging) using several numerical and experimental approaches and methodologies is presented. This SOTA report is a result of the spent fuel characterisation (SFC) work package as part of the European Joint Programme on Radioactive Waste Management (EURAD), which offers an overview of the status of knowledge in the field of SNF characterisation and assessment during the pre-disposal phase. The document aims to focus on the current safety-significant gaps and related challenges, providing a direct link to the goals of the mandated actors of EURAD. The report is expected to be used by all EURAD colleagues in their national programmes as a key resource for knowledge management programmes and to contribute to demonstrating and documenting the state-of-the-art.
This report summarizes findings from the first comprehensive study on digitalization in conformity assessment in Africa. The reults are based on data from a survey among conformity assessment bodies (CABs) conducted in 2023. It highlights the digital maturity of the organizations, the motives, benefits and obstacles of digital transformation as well as the actual technology trends.

For the safety of prestressed concrete structures, a test of prestressing steel products for hydrogen-induced stress corrosion cracking is mandatory. The current standardized test methods according to DIN EN ISO 15630-3 have proven deficiencies concerning the reproducibility of the results and thus make it difficult to assess the susceptibility clearly. The WIPANO research project funded by BMWK aimed to improve the test method regarding reproducibility and reliability of results. The project created constant and reproducible test conditions by modifying material, electrolyte, and process parameters. This allowed a clear differentiation between good and bad products. As part of the project, a round robin test was initiated to confirm the applicability and reproducibility of the new test method. The new test method was evaluated for its applicability to the prestressing steel product wire. A draft standard with a proposed conformity criterion for these products was submitted to the responsible ISO committee for approval. According to the current feedback from the committee, the draft standard will be included in the informative annex of the testing standard, which could pave the way for mirroring at European and national standardization levels.
The ground vibrations, which are generated by trains on different slab tracks, have been calculated by finite-element boundary-element models. The slab track is modelled in detail by the finite element method.
The infinite soil is modelled by the boundary element method as a homogeneous half-space. The track-soil system is coupled with a simple rigid mass model of the vehicle so that the vehicle-track interaction is completely included. Transfer functions are calculated in frequency domain without and with vehicle-track interaction, the compliance of the track and the mobilities of the soil at different distances from the track.
Finally, the ratios between the ground vibration amplitudes with and without mitigation measure are calculated to quantify the effectiveness of the mitigation measure.
Tracks with under sleeper pads have been investigated in a parameter study. The main parameter that influences the reduction of ground vibration is the stiffness of the under sleeper pad. The softest sleeper pad yields the best reduction of the ground vibration.
The influence of other parameters has been examined. The stiffness of the rail pads, the stiffness of the slab material, the stiffness of the sleeper material, and the distance of the sleepers. All these parameters show no or only a minor influence on the mitigation effect.
As the standard isolated track, a track with an under sleeper pad of a stiffness of kS = 5 107 N/m has been chosen, which can also be expressed as a stiffness per area of kS ’’ = 3.7 107 N/m3 = 0.037 N/mm3.
The resonance frequency for this pad stiffness is observed between 32 and 40 Hz. The reduction of the ground vibration is about vi,I /vi,U = 0.1 at 100 Hz.
