Preparation of new bimetallic compounds, including double complex salts (DCSs), containing both a platinumgroup metal and a transition metal of the fourth period is of great interest since these compounds can act as precursors of bimetallic materials. One example of using such compounds is the preparation of ultrafine particles of solid solutions of metals or intermetallic compounds on various supports to fabricate highly efficient catalysts with a low content of noble
metals.
Compounds containing coordinated oxalate anions are important objects of synthetic chemistry and interesting precursors. For example, a lot of attention is given to salts with [M(C2O4)2]2– anions, where M = Co, Ni, Cu, Pt, Pd. On the one hand, the uniqueness of oxalate coordinated anions is due to the fact that they are easily obtained and are stable both in aqueous solutions and in the solid phase; on the other hand, they are thermally decomposed at relatively low temperatures, which makes them promising precursors for the fabrication of metallic and oxide materials.
The Current Status and Effects of Global Harmonization of the Classification and Labelling of Dangerous Goods and Materials
In Chapter 19 of Agenda 21 regarding the worldwide environmentally sound management of toxic (dangerous) chemicals the UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in June 1992 in Rio de Janeiro agreed to adopt - amongst others - the global harmonization of classification and labelling of chemicals by the year 2000. Under the name of »global harmonization« this programme has made considerable progress, but it is not generally known in detail - except by those directly involved - what has happened, and what will still happen, what harmonization in this context means, and what the consequences will be when this ambitious goal is finally reached. The submitted contribution attempts as far as possible to overcome this information deficit.
(2014)
In failure analysis, micro-fractographic analysis of fracture surfaces is usually performed based on practical knowledge which is gained from available studies, own comparative tests, from the literature, as well as online databases. Based on comparisons with already existing images, fracture mechanisms are determined qualitatively. These images are mostly two-dimensional and obtained by light optical and scanning electron imaging techniques. So far, quantitative assessments have been limited to macrocopically determined percentages of fracture types or to the manual measurement of fatigue striations, for example. Recently, more and more approaches relying on computer algorithms have been taken, with algorithms capable of finding and classifying differently structured fracture characteristics. For the Industrial Collective Research (Industrielle Gemeinschaftsforschung, IGF) project “iFrakto” presented in this paper, electron-optical images are obtained, from which topographic information is calculated. This topographic information is analyzed together with the conventional 2D images. Analytical algorithms and deep learning are used to analyze and evaluate fracture characteristics and are linked to information from a fractography database. The most important aim is to provide software aiding in the application of fractography for failure analysis. This paper will present some first results of the project.
The round robin test investigated the reliability users can expect for AlSi10Mg additive manufactured specimens by laser powder bed fusion through examining powder quality, process parameter, microstructure defects, strength and fatigue. Besides for one outlier, expected static material properties could be found. Optical microstructure inspection was beneficial to determine true porosity and porosity types to explain the occurring scatter in properties. Fractographic analyses reveal that the fatigue crack propagation starts at the rough as-built surface for all specimens. Statistical analysis of the scatter in fatigue using statistical derived safety factors concludes that at a stress of 36.87 MPa the fatigue limit of 107 cycles could be reached for all specimen with a survival probability of 99.999 %.
The study introduces the porous medium model for the simulation of concrete flow through highly-reinforced sections. It shows that numerical simulations can predict concrete behavior during casting and help to avoid expensive mistakes.
In the field of animal species differentiation, work on standardizing methods has been intensified in Germany in recent years, not least due to the horsemeat scandal in 2013. Even though there are now hardly ever any positive findings anymore in examinations to detect horse adulterations in foods such as lasagne, animal species differentiation altogether ranks high in detecting adulteration of foods. This article, therefore, summarises the current status of analytical techniques used in Germany with standardization at German level. It has been established by the working group "Biochemical and Molecular Biological Analytics" of the Lebensmittelchemische Gesellschaft (Food Chemistry Society within the German Chemical Society) with support of experts in the working group “Molecular biology techniques for differentiating plant and animal species" (§64 of the German Food and Feed Code - LFGB) and the "Immunology and molecular biology" task force of the food hygiene and food of animal origin working group (ALTS), both from Germany.
