Analysis of UN/DOT for the stacking of dangerous goods

  • The purpose of this paper Is to demonstrate how the different interpretatlons of test Standards can lead to different results. For this study the United Nations (UN) stacking recommendation was examined. The critlcal points in the UN/DOT recommendation studied were guided or unguided compression, and the use of the stacking fixture. Locallzed stresses were analyzed using Digital Imaging Correlation (DIC). The positional tolerance of a packaging was also studied during unguided compression. During unguided compression the posltions of the jerricans were moved 1 cm in each direction from the center. The different positlons showed that was possible for a change in the deflection by 1.3 cm dependlng on the position. The DIC test was used to Show how stress concentrations form and the changes in the locallzed stress with guided and unguided compression. The DIC revealed differences in where and when the areas of higher stress would form. The Position of the jerrlcan whlle using unguided compression methods will change the overall deflection and the locallzed stresses. These different acceptable methods will produce different results whlch could mean the dlfference between a failure and a package survlving the test.zeige mehrzeige weniger
