Bio-based concrete - Materials innovation for sustainable future construction
- Concrete is typically perceived as a grey material that is relatively cheap and easy to use for mass application. The global relevance of concrete is often ignored despite its tremendous environmental, economic, and social impact. Construction materials are a major impact on the climate change, but building is inevitable for social and economic development. Therefore, it is important to develop more sustainable materials to build habitat and infrastructures. A reasonable approach to build more sustainably with concrete is to use agricultural by-products as chemical or fibrous performance enhancers and/or as replacement of cement in the binder.
