Der Baustoff Lehm hat vergleichsweise schwache mechanische Eigenschaften. Er ist außerdem anfällig gegenüber eindringendem Wasser, wobei er sehr schnell seinen Zusammenhalt verlieren kann, wenn gewisse Feuchtegehalte überschritten werden. Instandsetzungskonzepte für Bauwerke aus solchen Materialien stellen deshalb eine Herausforderung dar. Historische Lehmbauwerke zeigen oft Schäden in Form von starker Rissbildung, die durch statische oder dynamische Lasten hervorgerufen sein kann. Häufig werden solche Risse wegen mangelnder Fachkenntnis und / oder fehlender Techniken nur ungenügend instandgesetzt. Die Rissinstandsetzung mit Einpressmörteln birgt insbesondere für Lehmbaustoffe eine Herausforderung und erfordert spezifische Anforderungen an den Einpressmörtel, wie z. B. niedriger Wassergehalt, gutes Wasserrückhaltevermögen, niedriges Schwindmaß, an das instandzusetzende Material angepasste Festigkeit und E-Modul sowie eine gute Haftung am Lehmuntergrund. Zusätzlich müssen Einpressmörtel eine ausreichende Fließfähigkeit aufweisen, um kleine Risse und Hohlräume ohne Entmischung zu füllen. Deshalb muss das rheologische Verhalten des Einpressmörtels gut untersucht und kontrolliert werden, um die gewünschte Wirkung zu erzielen. Die Rissinstandsetzung bei Lehmbauwerken erfolgt traditionell durch manuelles Stopfen mit einem Mörtel. Natürlich können auf diese Weise nur Risse mit einer großen Breite verfüllt werden. Ein weiterer Nachteil ist, dass Risse, die durch dickere Wände verlaufen, nicht vollständig mit den für das Stopfen verwendeten Werkzeugen erreicht werden können. Kalkgebundene Einpressmörtel für Lehmbaustoffe werden gewöhnlich für die Wiederbefestigung von Putzen und weniger aus statisch-konstruktiven Gründen eingesetzt Aufgrund der Eigenschaften von Lehm, müssen Einpressmörtel auf Basis von hydraulischem Kalk nach EN 459-1 wesentliche Anforderungen an eine Reihe von Eigenschaften erfüllen, die sich auf die Verträglichkeit, die Dauerhaftigkeit und insbesondere die Injektionsfähigkeit beziehen. Das Ziel der vorgestellten Untersuchungen war einen Einpressmörtel zu herzustellen, mit dem die strukturelle Kontinuität in Lehmmauerwerk oder anderen massiven Lehmwänden (Stampf- und Wellerlehm) durch Rissverpressung wiederhergestellt werden kann. Earth as a construction material has comparatively weak mechanical properties. It is also susceptible towards liquid water, were it can lose cohesion very quickly if certain moisture contents are exceeded. Repair concepts of structures built with such materials are therefore challenging. Historical earthen structures often exhibit damages in form of extensive cracking, which may have been caused by static or dynamic loads. Frequently these cracks are insufficiently or inappropriately repaired because of lack of knowledge and / or technology. In particular, the behaviour of crack repair by grouting poses a challenge in earthen materials and demands specific requirements for the grouting mortar, such as low water content, good water retention, low shrinkage. Grouting materials require additional specifications such as compatible strengths and Young’s modulus as well as good adhesion to the earthen substrates. In addition, grouts have to be sufficiently flowable to fill small cracks and voids without segregation or bleeding. Therefore, the rheological behaviour has to be well understood and controlled to gain the desired effects. The repair of cracks in earthen buildings is traditionally done by stuffing manually mortar into the gap. Naturally, this method is only usable for cracks with large widths. Another disadvantage is that cracks going through thicker walls cannot be completely reached by the tools used for stuffing the mortar into the crack. Lime based grouts for earthen materials were usually used for re-attachment of plasters but less for structural reasons. Due to the nature of earthen materials grouts based on formulated or hydraulic lime (according to the definition in EN 459-1) have to meet considerable demands on a variety of properties, which are related to compatibility, durability and in particular to the ability of being injected. The goal of this study was to create a grout, which can be used to re-establish structural continuity in cracked earthen masonry or other massive earth walls (rammed earth and cob) with the focus on grouting cracks. Dies kann maßgeblich auf die im Produkt vorliegenden P-Verbindungen zurückgeführt werden.Es zeigt sich weiterhin, dass durch eine Na2CO3-Gabe die kurzfristige Verfügbarkeit von eisengefällten Klärschlämmen verbessert werden kann, es aber keinen Einfluss auf die langfristige P-Nachlieferung hat. T1 - Dynamic identification and seismic safety of two masonry towers N2 - The recent experience of Italian seismic events provided wide observational information about typical behaviour, damage patterns and intrinsic vulnerability of monumental buildings. Evidence indicates that historical constructions are by far the most vulnerable from the seismic point of view. As a consequence, they demand for the definition of urgent strategies for the protection of cultural heritage from seismic hazard. The main goal of an in-depth knowledge of the structure should help to avoid inadequate, unsuitable or dangerous rehabilitation operations, as well as to select non-invasive and reversible techniques for the best exploitation of material and technology features. The definition of reliable models and methods for seismic risk assessment of historical constructions is today a very important topic. Typical problems of masonry structures concern aspects like inherent structural lacks, material degradation, geotechnical problems, buckling behaviour of slender elements and dynamic loading vulnerability. Modelling the mechanical behaviour of masonry may play an important role, due to both inherent material complexity and great scatter in mechanical properties. Effective procedures for the identification of the structural parameters from static and dynamic testing are thus required. In particular, dynamic measurements may be very useful for the identification of mechanical properties and soil restraints and, consequently, for the calibration of advanced numerical finite element models. The paper addresses two case studies of structural monitoring and seismic assessment of medieval masonry towers in Italy: the bell tower of Aversa and the bell tower of Capua. These monuments, placed in the Campania region, were monitored by means of full-scale environmental vibration testing. Measured responses are then used for modal identification with a typical finite element model updating technique based on vibration test results. Parameters optimization is carried out on the basis of a criterion which minimises a weighted error on modal properties. A satisfactory improvement in the determination of modal parameters is thus obtained, resulting in a close agreement between the modal properties observed in dynamic tests and those calculated from numerical model. Seismic assessment is finally performed based on nonlinear static analysis of the tower under multimodal distributions of lateral loads. Results from nonlinear analysis indicate the potential collapse mechanisms and evidence dangerous structural weakness which may play a role in the seismic vulnerability of the towers. As different copper species have in general a higher density compared to the prevalent minerals, processes for density separation seemed to be favorable for the recovery of copper. Investigations with a centrifugal classifier were therefore carried out with BA from MWSI which have been used for a few years as the covering material for a landfill. The results show an appreciable enrichment of the precious copper. The concentrates contained up to 60 mg/kg copper in the dry weight (DW) (in general about 30 – 40 mg/kg DW) with enrichment factors of around 20 and a copper recovery of up to 50 % (in general around 20 %). In some situations condensation of components out of the CO2 stream can occur. To study the effect of condensate on transport pipeline steel, a “worst-case scenario” gas mixture, containing 2.5 % H2O, 1.8 % O2, 1000 ppmv NO2, and 220 ppmv SO2, was proposed, fed (1.5 L/min) into a glass reactor containing coupon-shaped specimens for 120 600 h at 278 K (to simulate the underground pipeline transport), and resulted in the condensate containing 0.114 M H2SO4 and 0.0184 M HNO3 (pH 2.13). Basing on this “original” condensate, exposure tests and electrochemical characterization together with pH and conductivity in CO2 saturated condition at the same temperature were carried out. The role of each gas impurity and the combination of them, when the condensate is formed, was studied by investigating the role of individual and varying combination of acidic components in the condensate on the corrosion behaviors of the commercial pipeline-steel (L360NB). It can be concluded that although the condensation of NOx in form of HNO3 causes faster corrosion rate, it is the condensation of SOx or the combination of SOx and NOx that may cause much more severe problems in form of localized and pitting corrosions. Different to the corrosion products formed in CO2 atmosphere without impurities (mainly iron carbonate) the corrosion products resulted from these acidic condensation have no protectability, indicating the need of controlling gas quality during the transportation within the pipeline network. Mechanical behaviour under shear and cyclic loading N2 - An experimental investigation was carried out to study the in-plane shear behaviour of rammed earth structural elements strengthened with polyester fabric strips. The original idea for the retrofitting with polyester fabric strips was to introduce a vertical element for walls in order to take up horizontal loads resulting in a shear response of the building element. It has to be considered that vertical slits into the walls for fixing the strips are points of weakness and have to be mitigated by the adhesive. In this case a base coat mortar was employed. Strengthened elements were tested to exploit the strength potential of earthen materials and to solve its lack of tensile strength, significantly improving not only strength but also ductility. As part of the study results of a testing campaign of unstrengthened structural elements were considered. Strengthened elements were tested in diagonal compression/shear and cyclic shear-compression. A unique reinforcement orientation was used. The results of these tests are presented in this paper and include the load-displacement behaviours, crack patterns, failure modes. The results showed that the reinforcement was the most effective under cyclic shear-compression tests, with increase in load and displacement capacity observed. Under diagonal compression the reinforcement did not likely contribute significantly to the shear resistance, due to a lack of embedment length of the strips. Ambient vibration measurements and numerical model tuning N2 - The paper investigates the dynamic characterisation along with the numerical model tuning and the seismic risk assessment of a monumental masonry tower in Italy namely the Santa Maria a Vico bell tower. Full-scale ambient vibration tests were performed under the impact of environmental loads. The technique of modal extraction in the frequency domain was applied. In-situ investigation survey was used in calibrating the refined 3D finite element model. The FEM tuning was carried out by varying the mechanical parameters and accounting for the restraint offered by the neighbouring buildings and the role of soil–structure interaction. The paper shows that the modal identification is a reliable technique that can be used in-situ for assessing the dynamic behaviour of monumental buildings. The tuned FEM model of the tower was usefully employed to determine the theoretical fundamental frequencies, which accurately fit the experiment data. Finally, the seismic performance of the bell tower was assessed using a non-linear static procedure based on the multi-modal pushover analysis and the capacity spectrum method. The results confirm that seismic events of moderate intensity can produce heavy damage to the masonry tower presented in this study. T1 - Durability of UHPC for facade elements with self-cleaning surfaces N2 - This paper presents the development of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) for façade elements with self-cleaning properties. For creating self-cleaning surfaces two different approaches are proposed. One approach is based on the photocatalytic activation of the external UHPC shell by incorporation of TiO2 particles. The second approach consists of the modification of the UHPC surface by micro structuring in combination with the application of hydrophobic agents to create durable super hydrophobicity. In the framework of the H-HOUSE Project funded by the European Commission the experimental investigations were performed with UHPC based on Dyckerhoff Nanodur® technology. The special properties of this material enable the precise reproduction of any micro structure without flaws. The current results obtained from laboratory and outdoor weathering tests are promising and demonstrate the feasibility of the approaches. T1 - Influence of life span prediction on building component's LCA performance N2 - The life span of a building product is a key Parameter when it comes to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) performance. Nevertheless, many uncertainties affect this parameter due to a lack of long-term performance data. The sensitivity of the LCA outcomes to this parameter has been studied within the framework of the FP7 project H-House (Healthier Life with Eco-innovative Components for Housing Constructions) funded by the European Commission. The paper Features two comparative studies conducted within the scope of this project: one for new construction and another for renovation. An innovative precast sandwich panel made of Textile Reinforced Concrete (TRC) and Foamed Concrete (FC), used for external walls in new construction, is compared with a steel reinforced concrete (SRC) wall of the same thermal resistance. For renovation, a novel halfsandwich panel made of Ultra-High-Performance-Concrete (UHPC) and Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) is compared with cladding having the same thermal performance. The Evaluation was conducted using a multi-criteria basis according to the LCA methodology (ISO 14040- 44). In each case, an identical life span for both scenarios leads to the fact that H-House components have a better environmental performance. The ISO 15686 and ist relevant parts have been considered for the estimation of the service life span. The sensitivity analysis shows the link between the impact savings of the innovative walls and the life span of the walls and their components. In particular, it was found that since both scenarios need to fulfil the same service during an identical reference period, and since some maintenance and replacement of materials are necessary over time for standard Solutions compared to the innovative ones, the chosen life span of the components plays a role of utmost importance. Dabei nehmen die Verwertungs- und Recyclingquoten bei den bereits etablierten herkömmlichen Einsatzgebieten für aufbereitete Bau- und Abbruchabfälle mit zunehmender Heterogenität des Materials ab. Ein höherwertiges Recycling mit dem Ziel das aufbereitete Material in hochwertigen Betonprodukten einzusetzen erfolgt heute in Deutschland lediglich im Rahmen von Pilotprojekten. So können die groben Körnungen des Betonbruchs als rezyklierte Gesteinskörnung im Beton eingesetzt werden. Besonders eingeschränkte Verwertungsmöglichkeiten liegen für Mauerwerkbruch vor, einem Gemisch aus Beton, Ziegel, Kalksandstein, Porenbeton, Mörtel, Natursteinen und anderen mineralischen Bestandteilen. Die Ursache hierfür ist neben der heterogenen Zusammensetzung des Materials auch dessen feine Kornverteilung, die durch den bei der mechanischen Aufbereitung zwangsläufig anfallenden Feinkornanteil von 30 bis über 40 Prozentbedingt ist. Defizite in der Verwertung bestehen also besonders bei heterogenen feinkörnigen Gemischen. Hier müssen Ansätze gefunden werden, um eine hochwertige Wiederverwertung zu ermöglichen. Dafür ist eine möglichst gute Trennung der einzelnen Materialfraktionen ein bewährter Ansatz. Während Metalle mittels Band- und Wirbelstromabscheidern und leichte Fremdbestandteile über Windsichtung und Dichtesortierung ausgetragen werden können, ist eine Trennung der Materialien Ziegel, Mörtel und Beton, insbesondere für die feinen Fraktionen, derzeit technologisch und wirtschaftlich nicht umsetzbar. Ein rohstoffliches Recycling dieser heterogen zusammengesetzten Abfälle unter Nutzung ihrer chemisch-mineralogischen Zusammensetzung ohne eine vorherige Trennung in die einzelnen Materialfraktionen bietet sich als Alternative an. Ergebnisse zur Herstellung von Leichtgranulaten aus Mauerwerkbruch und Tonen in einem thermischen Prozess ähnlich der Blähtonherstellung wurden bereits mehrfach veröffentlicht. An alternative is the use of recycling LWA made from mineral construction and demolition waste. Recycling LWA made from masonry rubble and rubble-clay mixtures were studied in two different research projects. The technology pursues the idea of feedstock recycling, which means the recycling is based on the chemical and mineralogical composition of the masonry rubble and clay. The recycling LWA are produced in a multistage manufacturing process by thermal hardening in laboratory and pilot scale. Their particle bulk densities and particle strengths vary between 600 and 2000 kg/m³ and 1.5 and 13 MPa, respectively. Their equivalence to traditional LWA was proven in comprehensive tests of the aggregates themselves as well as the mortars and concretes made therefrom. In addition to the main functions of a product, there are more and more additional functions, especially for electrical and electronic appliances. This means that looking for the right product may require extensive research by consumers and does not always lead to a sense of making an informed purchase decision. The wide variety of designs and functions can overwhelm consumers. This creates uncertainty and might lead to overrate products functionality and thus significantly shorten the service lifetime of appliances. Furthermore, the environmental impact of such functions is usually unclear, and can vary depending on the actual usage scenario. In this study, a survey was carried out in order to better understand consumers perceptions and experiences related to additional functions of products, with specific focus on domestic hobs, household refrigerating appliances and televisions. The results confirm the large number of additional functions and their overwhelming effect for consumers. Consumers purchase devices with more features than desired, or replaced them prematurely because an extra feature fails while the main function is still available. The findings of the study can be used to better inform consumers and support them to make environmentally sustainable purchasing decisions. Although human activity contributes to the acceleration of the process, bacteria have a self-driven stabilisation mechanism to protect themselves from such and other external threats: biofilm formation. Nonetheless, it is the adhesion of a single bacterial cell to a surface that triggers the formation of such network of biomolecules and microorganisms, as well as its hazardous consequences. The main objective of this work was to quantify the adhesion force of a single E. coli cell on a Ti substrate via the AFM-related single-cell force spectroscopy, with both the cell and the substrate material being of high clinical relevance. A set of 25 x 25 force displacement curves was acquired with a maximum force of 3.2 nN without dwell time, yielding a topography map and an adhesion force map that showed to be correlated. A mean adhesion force of 0.85 ± 0.175 nN was measured and the presence of cell appendages on the bacterial cell wall was verified through individual force-displacement curves. Bacterial viability was assessed after the measurements via live/dead staining. Der zunehmende Anstieg der Preise für industriell essenzielle Ressourcen, wie Primärenergie und Rohstoffe, sowie sich ausweitende klimapolitische Restriktion führen zur Notwendigkeit, die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit durch innovative und ökoeffiziente Fertigungsprozesse langfristig zu sichern. Rahmenbedingungen zu schaffen, welche die Positionierung nachhaltiger Produkte und Prozesse innerhalb globaler Wertschöpfungsketten ermöglicht, ist daher ein wesentliches Ziel der deutschen Industriepolitik. Im Rahmen dieses Beitrages werden aktuelle Forschungsarbeiten zur Bewertung der Umweltwirkungen der schweißtechnischen Fertigungskette anhand ausgewählter Schmelzschweißverfahren unter Berücksichtigung vor- sowie nachgelagerter Fertigungsschritte dargestellt. Das hierzu notwendige Element zur Analyse der Fertigungsprozesse ist die Ökobilanzierung - eine weit verbreitete und standardisierte Methode zur Abschätzung der Umweltwirkungen eines Produktes oder Prozesses. Hierbei stellt die Sachbilanzierung, d.h. die Ermittlung sämtlicher relevanter Energie- und Ressourcenverbräuche während der schweißtechnischen Fertigung, aufgrund des hohen Dokumentations-aufwandes sowie Ableitung assoziierter Wirkkategorien das größte Hindernis für eine Etablierung und Akzeptanz der Ökobilanzierung in der Praxis dar. Gleichwohl wird seitens Unternehmen, welche als Zulieferer von OEM’s agieren, die Dokumentation des fertigungsspezifischen CO2-Verbrauches gefordert. Ein weiterer Aspekt der Arbeiten beinhaltet folglich Methoden zur automatisierten Erfassung von schweißtechnischen Produktionsdaten sowie deren Nachverfolgbarkeit aufzuzeigen. Anhand unterschiedlicher Schweißverfahren werden die aus den Produktionsdaten abgeleiteten Energie- und Ressourcenverbräuche automatisiert in den relevanten Umweltwirkungen überführt. Diese Korngrößen aus Rezyklaten, die je nach Ausgangsstoffen und Produkt 5 – 70 % des fertigen Baustoffs ausmachen, waren zum Zeitpunkt des Projektstarts in den gültigen Lehmbaustoff-Normen DIN 18945 – 18948 nicht zugelassen, da diese als Zusatzstoffe nur natürliche Gesteinskörnungen nach DIN EN 12620, Mehl aus mörtelfreien Ziegeln sowie Blähperlit etc. nach DIN EN 13055-1 und als Bindemittel nur Baulehm aus natürlichen Vorkommen vorsahen. Um den Einsatz von rezyklierten Bau- und Abbruchabfällen für Lehmbaustoffe in der Norm zu ermöglichen, mussten daher die technische Durchführbarkeit, Qualitätsanforderungen an Ausgangsstoffe (z.B. Schadstoffgrenzwerte in Bezug auf Gesundheits- und Umweltverträglichkeit) sowie zulässige Anteile der Rezyklate geregelt werden. Aktuelle Sortier- und Aufbereitungsmethoden wurden im Hinblick auf die technische sowie die wirtschaftliche Machbarkeit überprüft und auf eine mögliche Optimierung untersucht. Um Fragen zur technischen Machbarkeit beantworten zu können, wurde im Vorhaben die exemplarische Entwicklung von zwei wiederverwendbaren Lehmbaustoffen (Lehmstein, Lehmputzmörtel) angestrebt, um zukünftig sowohl das Abfallaufkommen als auch die Rohstoffinanspruchnahme zu reduzieren. Zum einen sollten die Zuschläge bis zu 100% aber auch das natürliche Bindemittel Ton zu 80% – 100% substituiert werden. Der Machbarkeitsnachweis für beide Entwicklungen wurde in Form eines Prototyps mit einem Technologie-Reifegrad 4–5 (TRL 4–5) erbracht. N2 - To avoid the extraction of primary raw materials and the landfilling of suitable excavated soil in the future, the use of recycled aggregates < 2 mm in earth building materials was investigated in the “upMIN 100” research project. These grain sizes from recycled materials, which make up 5–70 % of the finished building material depending on the source materials and product, were not permitted in the applicable earth building material standards DIN 18945–18948 at the time the project started, as these only allow natural aggregates in accordance with DIN EN 12620, flour from mortarfree bricks and expanded perlite etc. as additives in accordance with DIN EN 13055-1 and only building clay from natural sources as a binder. For the use of recycled construction and demolition waste for earth building materials in the standard, the technical feasibility, quality requirements for source (e. g. limit values for harmful substances in terms of health and environmental compatibility) and permissible proportions of recyclates had to be regulated. Current sorting and processing methods were reviewed in terms of technical and economic feasibility and examined for possible optimisation. To ascertain the technical feasibility of the use of recycled construction demolition waste for earth building materials, the project developed two reusable earth building materials (earth blocks, clay plaster mortar) as examples of both waste reduction and of the use of raw materials in the future. On the one hand, up to 100 % of the aggregates and 80–100 % of the natural binder clay should be substituted. Utilizing chemical reagents like colorimetric indicators and other chemosensors, these particles detect varying environmental conditions. We developed paper-based sensors that are both cost-effective and eco-friendly. In practical tests, these sensors, dispersed over a designated area, successfully identified hazardous substances by changing their color when exposed to acids or bases. This color change was remotely detectable using a drone-mounted color camera. The data thus obtained was processed through specialized software, accurately pinpointing areas of contamination. The goal consisted in nvestigating a possible change of emissions into soil and groundwater of a new sporting ground as a function of ageing and egradation of the system. At various stages of the weathering, the samples were removed and subjected to especially designed column extraction tests for the solid samples. Both these extracts and the accumulated rainwater run-off of the weathering device were subjected to analytical tests of their ingredients. The overall aim of the test consisted in developing ontrollable, reproducible, and standardisable conditions and methods of investigation that would allow an estimation of the emissions in the course of outdoor application of about five years. Die Gesamthöhe dieser Schichten umfasst in der Regel maximal 10 cm. Inhaltsstoffe können durch Regenwasser mobilisiert und mit dem Sickerwasser in den Boden und in das Grundwasser eingetragen werden. Durch eine Kombination von Elutionstests und numerischer Modellierung kann das Mobilisierungs- und Transportpotential ermittelt werden, um eine Boden- und Grundwassergefährdungsabschätzung auf Basis einer Sickerwasserprognose vorzunehmen. Due to such additives in plastics, about a half of Sb ends up in municipal solid waste incineration at the end-of-life and consequently in relevant amounts in the generated bottom ash. In contact with water, the initial leachability is low, as antimonates form sparingly soluble compounds with Ca2+. Following the carbonation of the incineration bottom ash (IBA) during the proceeding ageing the pH in the leachates decreases. With decreasing concentration of Ca in the eluate the solution equilibrium changes and antimonates dissolve. In Germany it is intended to regulate Sb in IBA with the planned implementation of the so called Mantelverordnung (MantelVO, containing provisions on the utilisation of mineral waste) in the near future. The limit values set in the draft might be critical for IBA and therefore pose a risk for the utilisation of the mineral fraction of IBA in the well-established recycling routes. Odour emissions from building materials can be measured with the well-known and accepted standard ISO 16000-28 “Indoor air – Part 28: Determination of odour emissions from building products using test chambers”. For commonly used emission test chambers the sample air is collected in containers (bags) and presented to a group of panel members for the purpose of evaluating the odour. A standard sets requirements for the on-demand presentation in detail. These include the validation procedure for container materials, pre-treatment of bags, details on storage of filled bags and how to carry out the measurements. However, although these measures are proven in practice, incorrect measurements are still possible. Also errors can occur due to a very complex measurement procedure. So, there is a great need for research into how the odour samples are presented. The proposal planned to be presented will introduce a new development in sample provision by using an adapter which enables collection and provision of sample air without storage or transport of bags. The adapter is a sample container which is permanently positioned on the emission test chamber´s outlet and continuously filled with sample air flowing through it. The flow is briefly interrupted at the time when a sample is taken by a panel member for the test. The size of the container is sufficient to provide enough sample air for evaluation by at least one panel member via a funnel. Since sampling and presentation are technically connected, it means you can almost do away with storage or transportation and thus it can be presented almost unchanged to the panelmembers. The aim is to reduce measurement errors in the odour samples provision process and the improvement of measurement reproducibility. One of the described procedures is the assessment of perceived intensity using a comparative scale by a group of panellists. In this paper, the perceived intensity sampling procedure and its evaluation method are investigated and shown to need improvement. New technical developments in the methodology used to increase the reproducibility of measurement results are discussed. Since odour tests are used for labelling, they have a major influence on the assessment of construction products, similar to the procedure of the German Committee for Health Evaluation of Building Products (AgBB). In the original ISO standard, the evaluation is typically performed using a sampling container separated from the emission chamber. For a better sample presentation, an adapter was developed to connect the emission test chamber to the evaluation funnel and thus enable an odour assessment which is comparable to a direct measurement. The investigations show that losses of odourous substances can be greatly reduced, which is very desirable when seeking to obtain reliable results in odour measurement. Another experimental series was carried out to reduce the measurement effort in the evaluation of perceived intensity. Application of the developed greater than or less than/equal to. query could be helpful here. The results show that the query mostly leads to the same result as the evaluation of the perceived intensity using the method according to the standard but is much easier to perform. Overall, the results can contribute to improving the acceptance of the evaluation of perceived intensity using ISO 16000-28 and to determining odours from building materials increasingly more precisely. Spectroscopic measurement methods for remote sensing of selected gases lend themselves for use on mini-copters, which offer a number of advantages for inspection and surveillance. No direct contact with the target gas is needed and thus the influence of the aerial platform on the measured gas plume can be kept to a minimum. This allows to overcome one of the major issues with gas-sensitive mini-copters. On the other hand, remote gas sensors, most prominently Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TDLAS) sensors have been too bulky given the payload and energy restrictions of mini-copters. Here, we introduce and present the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle for Remote Gas Sensing (UAV-REGAS), which combines a novel lightweight TDLAS sensor with a 3-axis aerial stabilization gimbal for aiming on a versatile hexacopter. In the joint research project “REALight”, LWA were produced from masonry rubble in a thermal expanding process using a pilot production plant with a rotary kiln. Our research focuses on the characterisation of the novel LWA and their use in different hydraulically bound applications. Infra-lightweight concrete (ILC) was produced with the novel LWA, which accounts for two thirds of total aggregate volume, and Celitement, which is a hydraulic binder with a low carbon footprint. Its dry bulk density is ≤ 800 kg/m³. Strength and durability properties are comparable to ILC data from the literature. Lime-based repair mortars (LRM) containing LWA are beneficial for sandstone conservation due to their similar properties regarding porosity, water absorption and strength. A two-layer repair mortar system, which consists of a filling mortar to fill large voids and a covering mortar to modulate the surface texture to the historic sandstone, was developed. In our contribution, we present results of the LWA characterisation according to the European standard EN 13055:2016. Requirements and challenges of the use of the novel LWA in ILC and LRM are discussed. Due to their global distribution, potential persistence, bioaccumulation and toxicity most of the BFRs of the first Generation are banned or restricted, and replaced by new ones. However, based on similar properties these new compounds may also pose a serious risk by causing adverse effects to human health and the environment. These alternative BFRs were grouped into two classes: „novel” and „emerging” BFRs. Emerging BFRs are defined as compounds that have been identified in any environmental compartments whereas novel BFRs are only detected in materials and/or goods above 0.1 wt.-%. The environmental fate of these alternative BFRs is partially unknown. Over the past years a multitude of studies on the photodegradation of BFRs in environmental matrices have been conducted to assess the photochemical behavior and fate in the environment. The photolytic debromination reaction is particularly induced among BFRs by UV exposure. The novel brominated triazine-based flame retardant tris-(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)-s-triazine (TTBPTAZ) (Table 1) is a BFR that is mainly used in acrylonitrile butadiene styrene and high impact polystyrene. Ballesteros-Gómez et al. detected TTBP-TAZ in 8 of 13 plastic parts of consumer products and in 9 of 17 indoor dust samples but the photochemical behavior and fate is not known until now. The Digital Reference Material Document (DRMD) project at BAM introduces a transformative approach by converting traditional RM certificates/documents into machine-interpretable, XML-based digital assets. Building on the Digital Calibration Certificate framework, DRMDs encode ISO 33401 requirements and integrate semantic standards like D-SI and material identifiers. These digital documents support automated data exchange, integration into laboratory systems, and interoperability e.g. via asset administration shells and data spaces. The paper presents the DRMD schema concept, and outlines the path toward international harmonization and large-scale deployment, positioning DRMDs as a cornerstone of a digital quality infrastructure. T1 - Development and characterization of starch film and the incorporation of silver nanoparticles N2 - Starch is one of the biopolymers being used for bioplastic synthesis. For production, starch can be combined with different plasticizers, starches from different plant sources and even with nanomaterials to improve or to add film properties. The challenge of adding these, e.g. in the form of silver nanoparticles (AgNp) is to determine the concentration so as to avoid impairing the properties of the film, agglomeration or altering the visual characteristics of the film. In this study, a starch film synthesis route and the incorporation of silver nanoparticles has been proposed in order not to alter the properties of the film while maintaining the transparency and a clear colour of the starch film. The results showed that the proposed synthesis route is promising, efficient, reproducible, fast and the film has good mechanical properties. T1 - Heterogeneous Sensor Networks: Challenges and Insights from an Industrial Scenario N2 - Monitoring airborne pollutants is critical for occupational health, particularly in industrial environments where workers are exposed to hazardous emissions. Traditional measurements are typically limited to single-day campaigns, resulting in extremely sparse temporal data. Low-cost sensor networks offer a way to increase spatial and temporal resolution but are limited by issues of accuracy and reliability. To address this, we present a wireless heterogeneous sensor network that integrates low-cost stationary nodes with high-quality sensors on mobile platforms, including ground and aerial robots. We deploy this system in a hot rolling mill facility and evaluate its performance under real-world conditions. Field experiments reveal dynamic pollutant patterns, such as altitude-dependent PM2.5 gradients and temperature fluctuations. By introducing synchronized “rendezvous” events between mobile and stationary nodes, we demonstrate correlation capabilities of sensors. Our spatiotemporal analysis shows that, despite limitations of mobile sensing, strategically combining heterogeneous data sources enables capturing pollutant dynamics in complex industrial settings. Nitrate-amended incubations of the field samples under high salinity (14.6% NaCl), revealed a dominance of HA (>72%) and an accumulation of nitrite. Nitrite accumulation directly inhibited the growth of SRB, thereby decreasing their souring and corrosion risks. However, accumulated nitrite may also contribute to iron corrosion, which will be tested by using different concentrations of nitrate as an electron acceptor to HA. Different salinities are further tested on HA strains supplemented with iron coupons to determine their effects on iron corrosion rates. HA incubated with separate cultures of corrosive methanogen and SRB were tested to determine whether a positive or adverse effect will occur between them. T1 - Novel Multiport Flow-Column Corrosion Monitoring System (MFC) Revealed High Corrosion Rates by Corrosive Methanogenic Archaea N2 - MFC was used to study the corrosiveness of iron-utilizing methanogen, Methanobacterium IM1 under flow conditions. Comparing against electrical SRM, Desulfovibrio ferrophilus IS5, results showed under standard mesophilic conditions, average corrosion rates of Methanobacterium IM1 was double that of SRM. The highest corrosion rate of Methanobacterium IM1 reached up to 0.60 mm/yr under neutral conditions, and severe pitting was observed on the iron surface. Furthermore, the corrosion products of Methanobacterium IM1 were characterized with TOF-SIM, FIB-SEM and EDX, and preliminary results revealed FeCO3 is not the only corrosion product of Mi-MIC, as previously reported. Under low pH conditions, the maximum corrosion rate of Methanobacterium IM1 reached 1.57 mm/yr, which resulted in severed deformity of the iron specimen. Additional comparisons using different types of incubation material were conducted to standardize MFC MIC testing. Mobile Robot Olfaction (MRO) involves mobile robots equipped with gas sensors and requires the integration of multiple disciplines, including signal processing, machine perception, autonomous navigation, and pattern recognition. Common applications of MRO include mapping gas distributions, locating and detecting gas sources, and tracking gas plumes. Aerial Robot Olfaction (ARO) is a specialized branch of MRO that adapts these concepts to aerial robots, addressing the challenges of airborne gas sensing. This presentation highlights recent developments and results from ongoing research projects in MRO and ARO, with a focus on real-world deployment scenarios and the challenges encountered in practice. T1 - Droplet corrosion of CO2 transport pipeline steels N2 - In this work, the focus was set on the corrosion process of condensate as drops on the surface of carbon steels (X52, X70), martensitic steel UNS S41500, and superaustenite UNS N08031 in CO2 atmosphere with impurities at 278 K (to simulate the transportation condition in a buried pipeline). Exposure tests were performed at both normal pressure and high pressure where CO2 is supercritical or in dense phase. The drop, 1 ‑ 10 μL in volume, was prepared by dropping CO2 saturated ultra-pure water onto the surface of steel coupons in a one-liter-autoclave. The CO2 gas stream, simulating the oxyfuel flue gas with varying concentration of impurities (SO2 and O2 ), was then pumped into the autoclave to observe the condensation and corrosion impacts of impurities. Comparable exposure tests were carried out with the same gas mixture and the same volume of water as vapor to observe the drop formation and the corrosion process that follows. The wettability and stability of drops on the surface of steel coupons in CO2 supercritical/dense phase environment was evaluated additionally by contact angle measurement. Such materials are suitable to be considered in a cementitious system with ordinary Portland cement (OPC) due to their high pozzolanic properties. In addition, majority of the SCMs are said to significantly improve concrete properties especially in terms of increased strength and durability. Unfortunately, the production of such SCMs is not entirely eco-friendly and also limited to certain parts of the world, hence one has to look at alternative options. The issue of availability of resources is a strong concept that is ever-increasing, and the use of more eco-friendly SCMs in a cementitious system is furthermore attractive. Hence this paper addresses the use of eco-friendly SCMs in concrete such as rice husk ash (RHA). Despite the fact that extensive research has been done on this material, its application in a cementitious system to obtain sufficient concrete properties is still rather limited. In a country like Tanzania, high strength concrete construction is applicable in special construction cases but certainly not a high priority. Majority of construction is still undertaken using normal strength concrete. In a ternary cementitious system consisting of OPC, RHA and other readily available resources such as limestone filler (LSF), normal strength concrete can still be produced having good performance and suitable for regular on-site construction. This paper explains a possible application of obtaining sufficient concrete properties from the available resources.
