The tubular mesh was designed to serve as both the tensile and shear reinforcement of hollow beams intended for the construction of small self-supporting structures that could be assembled without mechanization. The reinforcement was prepared with a tri-axial weaving machine from carbon filament yarn and was homogenized using epoxy resin. The interaction of the composite reinforcement with the cementitious matrix was investigated, and the surface of the reinforcement was modified using silica sand and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers to improve cohesion. The sand coating enhanced bond strength, resulting in the significantly higher flexural strength of the hollow beam of 128%. The PVA fibers had a lower positive effect of 64% on the flexural strength but improved the ductility of the beam. Individual beams were connected by gluing steel parts directly inside the hollow core of the HPC beam. This procedure provides good interaction between the CFRP reinforcement and the glued steel insert and allows for the fast and simple assembly of structures. The weaving of additional layers of the CFRP reinforcement around HPC beams was also explored. A small structure made of the hollow HPC beams with inner composite reinforcement was constructed to demonstrate the possibilities of the presented technology. The molecular structure has a decisive influence on the effectiveness of PCE, which also can be tailored to serve in a different cementitious system. The current study investigates the influence of the backbone charge density of PCE on the rheology, hydration kinetics, and adsorption behavior of ordinary Portland cement (OPC) and sulfate-resistant cement (SRC). The results indicate that regardless of the PCE type, OPC requires a higher amount of PCE to be adsorbed to induce changing of rheological parameters and hydration kinetics. Regardless of the cement type, the PCE with a higher charge density exhibits higher adsorption behavior, corresponding to lower viscosity measurement. Compared to OPC, SRC is more sensitive to the introduction of both PCEs and has a lower saturation dosage, indicating that SRC generally provides better workability properties regardless of the PCE. One of these is the corrosive environment towards metallic materials, which can lead to a loss of material thickness and thus to a deterioration of mechanical performances, especially the strength of infrastructures. This can be counteracted by painting and cathodic protection (CP). Much research has already been done in this area about inhibiting the corrosion process. However, gaps exist regarding free corrosion. This plays a greater role especially for time intervals during the installation of the systems and their maintenance, during which often no CP can be operated. This is especially true for areas where painting surfaces is impossible e.g., sediment areas. This problem is exacerbated by the different corrosion rates caused by the different zones (water and sediment), with their different amounts of dissolved oxygen. This presentation deals with experiments in artificial seawater and sediment. Classical S355J2 steel samples in the form of coupons were fitted with welding wires that carried out the electrical contact to the outer side of the basin. Inside the basins, the specimens are stored in different zones like water and sediment which should simulate the foundation situation of monopiles. The mass loss was determined gravimetrically, elemental currents between specimens in water and sediment were measured and electrochemical investigations were carried out. The influences of the zones, based on different solved oxygen contents, and the rolling skin towards the corrosion behavior of the mild steel samples were determined in this work. Especially the influence of the sediment showed unexpected behavior, determined by electrochemical investigations. These results allow better conclusions to be drawn about the corrosion behavior of low alloy steels in offshore environments used in sediment and seawater, which cannot always be protected. The flagship project H2Mare of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research aims to enable the production of green hydrogen and PtX products at high seas. It may pose a higher explosion risk than gas/vapor or dust/mist explosions since the hybrid explosions can still be initiated even though both the gas and the dust concentration are lower than their lower explosion limit (LEL) values. Understanding the explosion threat of hybrid mixtures not only contributes to the inherent safety and sustainability of industrial process design, but promotes the efficiency of loss prevention and mitigation. To date, however, there is no test standard with reliable explosion criteria available to determine the safety parameters of all types of hybrid mixture explosions, nor the flame propagation and quenching mechanism or theoretical explanation behind these parameters. This review presents a state-of-the-art overview of the comprehensive understanding of hybrid mixture explosions mainly in an experimental study level; thereby, the main limitations and challenges to be faced are explored. The system is based on a cost-efficient digital incoherent optical frequency domain reflectometry (I-OFDR). In this approach, the strain-induced changes in the Rayleigh backscattering profile along a perfluorinated polymer optical fiber (PF-POF) are determined by measuring the complex transfer function of the sensing fiber using a compact digital data acquisition unit. The digital unit replaces an oversized vector network analyzer (VNA) enabling suitability of the measurement system for out-door use and providing a significant reduction of the total system costs at the same time. The entire sensor con-cept includes the use of geosynthetics with integrated PF-POFs as two-dimensional sensor structures for geotech-nical applications. The robustness and the functionality of the distributed POF I-OFDR sensors were proven in the field. The field test involved embedding of two geomats, each with two polymer optical sensor loops, into the embankment of the federal road B 91 in a section near Leipzig. Das hatte eine signifikante Reduzierung geeigneter Gesteinskörnungen zur Folge. Deshalb wird geprüft, ob durch die Zugabe eines Hydrophobierungsmittels während der Betonherstellung grenzwertig alkaliempfindliche Gesteinskörnungen nutzbar gemacht werden können. In diesem Beitrag wird der Einfluss der Dosierung eines Compounds mit Hydrophobierungsmittel (HM) auf die Frisch- und Festbetoneigenschaften eines Waschbetons mit einer reaktiven Grauwacke dargestellt. Es zeigt sich, dass aufgrund des Antagonismus die zunehmende Dosierung des HM-Compounds eine signifikante Erhöhung der Zugabe des Luftporenbildners auf Wurzelharzbasis erfordert. Der AKR-Schädigungsprozess wird ab einer Dosierung des HM-Compounds von 0,75 M.-%, bezogen auf den Zementgehalt, hinreichend vermindert. Die mechanischen Eigenschaften des hydrophobierten Waschbetons verschlechtern sich im betrachteten Dosierungsbereich des HM-Compounds nur geringfügig. For this purpose, factor analysis and linear discriminant analysis are used to develop a statistical model based on the FTIR spectra of unaged bitumen samples, which can be used fast and simple in everyday laboratory work and allows to assign the bitumen to a low, moderate, or strong aging sensitivity. The evaluation of the aging sensitivity is based on the complex shear modulus|G* | and the phase angle δ from the measurement with a dynamic shear rheometer(DSR), whose aging-related changes were captured as the slope in the Black diagram. A relevant influence on the classification concerning the aging sensitivity has the oxygen-containing compounds(sulfoxide, hydroxyl and partly carbonyl compounds), whereby lower contents and thus less preaged bitumen tend to have a stronger aging sensitivity. T1 - Carbonation of concrete with SCMs: a data analysis by RILEM TC 281-CCC N2 - The RILEM TC 281–CCC "Carbonation of concrete with supplementary cementitious materials" is studying the effect of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) on natural and accelerated carbonation of blended cements. In this context a large database with carbonation depths over time has been set-up with currently 910 concrete and mortar mixes, which have been tested at different curing conditions. The collected data includes information on chemical composition and physical properties of the raw materials, on mix-design, compressive strength, curing and carbonation testing conditions. Data for a large variety of binders (with up to 94 % SCMs) and mix designs (with w/b ratios ranging from 0.26 to 0.75) were collected from the literature and unpublished material testing projects. Natural carbonation was recorded for several years in many cases, and indoor as well as outdoor results are included. However, in this contribution only lab conditions are considered. Carbonation kinetics are investigated considering the binder composition and mix design. Furthermore, the accuracy of accelerated carbonation testing is evaluated. As described in literature, the w/CaOreactive-ratio is a decisive factor for carbonation resistance but curing and exposure conditions influence the results as well. Even with identical test conditions, the scatter is very large. The definition of data being FAIR is very general, and when implementing that for a specific application or project or even setting a standardized procedure within a working group, a company or a research community, many challenges arise. In this contribution, an overview about our experience with different methods, tools and procedures is outlined. We begin with a motivation on potential use cases for the applications of FAIR data with increasing complexity starting from a reproducible research paper over collaborative projects with multiple participants such as Round-Robin tests up to data-based models within standardization codes, applications in machine learning or parameter estimation of physics-based simulation models. In a second part, different options for structuring the data are discussed. On the one hand, this includes a discussion on how to define actual data structures and in particular metadata schema, and on the other hand, two different systems for storing the data are discussed. The first one is the openBIS system, which is an open-source Lab notebook and PostgreSQL based data management system. A second option are a semantic representations using RDF based ontologies for the domain of interest. In a third section, requirements for workflow tools to automate data processing are discussed and their integration into reproducible data analysis is presented with an outlook on required information to be stored as metadata in the database. Finally, the presented procedures are exemplarily demonstrated for the calibration of a temperature dependent constitutive model for additively manufactured mortar. Metadata schemata for a rheological measurement setup are derived and implemented in an openBIS database. After a short review of a potential numerical model predicting the structural build-up behaviour, the automatic workflow to use the stored data for model parameter estimation is demonstrated.
