The investigations in their entirety aim at questioning current and establishing new ways of looking at the formation of corrosion products of pure zinc under atmospheric corrosion conditions. Thus, they make a significant contribution in understanding corrosion protection by zinc and zinc coatings. In particular, the focus is placed on the initial stage of the corrosion product formation. A systematic investigation of this time range, which is characterized by very reactive corrosion products, is only made possible by using gel-type electrolytes. The short periods of time at the beginning of weathering is now measurable and their influence on the formation of corrosion products and the kinetics of layer formation describable. By combining the new electrochemical approach with gravimetric, microscopic and analytical methods, new insights could be gained both on a methodic and scientific level. T1 - The Madonna with the Wash-Basin by Giulio Romano: A Multidisciplinary Study of the Painting’s History N2 - In an interdisciplinary collaboration, restorers, art historians, and scientists examined Guilio Romano’s The Madonna with the Wash-Basin of 1525 (Dresden State Art Collections). Insights into the painting technique along with art historical comparisons provided the opportunity for a better understanding of the painting’s genesis, in particular concerning an early reworking of the background by the artist. A recovery and reconstruction of the earlier version of the background is now possible. The discovery of zinc in distinct passages of the painting, as well as the grey-black pigment stibnite and glass particles used as a supplement in paint layers are of special interest. The technological investigation initiated a discussion about the circumstances of the revision, as well as the painting’s relation to Vasari’s Lives of Artists. Der in natürlichen Erdböden vorhandene Wasseranteil bildet mit den löslichen Inhaltsstoffen eine Elektrolytlösung. Eine merkbare Korrosionsgeschwindigkeit tritt erst dann auf, wenn der Boden einen bestimmten Wassergehalt aufweist, der eine Sauerstoffdiffusion im Boden zur Oberfläche des Metalls gewährleistet. Von maßgebendem Einfluss auf die korrosionsverursachende Wirkung der Böden ist neben dem Feuchtegehalt, der die Leitfähigkeit des Bodens bestimmt, der pH-Wert. Verschiedene Bodenarten besitzen unterschiedliche Wasser- und Sauerstoffdurchlässigkeiten, sowie Unterschiede der gelösten Inhaltsstoffe wie Chloride oder Sulfate, wodurch sich das Korrosionsverhalten von Metallen in verschiedenen Böden stark unterscheidet. In der DIN 50929-3 werden Böden in vier verschiedene Bodenklassen mit Korrosionsbelastungen von sehr niedrig bis hoch unterteilt. Durch verschiedene Bodenanalysen und örtliche Gegebenheiten kann nach DIN 50929-3 zwar die Korrosivität eines Bodens bestimmt werden, jedoch ist die Reproduzierbarkeit eines Bodens (Prüfmediums) praktisch nicht möglich. Es gibt jedoch Überlegungen, wie die Einstellung einer Bodenklasse durch Verwendung von Normsand und der Zugabe von Stoffen erzielt werden kann, wodurch die Reproduzierbarkeit eines Bodens ermöglicht wird. A1 - Rethmeier, Michael T1 - Susceptibility of electrolytically galvanized dual-phase steel sheets to liquid metal embrittlement during resistance spot welding N2 - Modern advanced high-strength steel sheets for automotive applications are mostly zinc coated for corrosion resistance. However, the presence of zinc can—besides its positive effects—increase the material’s susceptibility to liquid metal embrittlement (LME) during resistance spot welding (RSW). Zinc and its eutectics are, due to their low melting point, present in liquid state during the welding process. This fact can, in combination with other factors like tensile strains or stresses, lead to the formation of brittle, intergranular cracks in the weld, and heat-affected zone. This phenomenon is commonly called liquid metal embrittlement. In order to understand the process from a practical perspective, one must learn what factors facilitate it. In this study, industry-relevant parameters are investigated regarding their influence on the occurrence of LME, embodied by the formation of surface cracks. It was found that electrode wear has less of an influence on the cracking susceptibility than welding current or tensile stresses. Finite element analysis is believed to provide a powerful tool in order to gain insights on the formation process. Modeling of the process shows promising initial results, revealing the underlying local stress and strain fields, unmeasurable with common techniques. Diese relativ neue elektrochemische Methode bietet die Möglichkeit, innerhalb einer Messung und in kurzen Messintervallen sowohl Polarisationswiderstände als auch Tafelfaktoren zu bestimmen. Ausgehend von einer umfassenden Parameterstudie wird gezeigt, dass ein direkter Zusammenhang zwischen den beiden Werten besteht, der mathematisch beschrieben werden kann.
