Especially powder bed fusion processes are of high interest due to their capability to economically produce individual, highly complex and functionally integrated components in small batches. However, the quality assurance of these components remains a challenge. Internal defects and undesirable microstructures and surface conditions can deteriorate the mechanical properties. Especially for use in safety-relevant applications, new design and inspection concepts are needed that take these factors into account. This talk presents typical defects and microstructure phenomena resulting from the laser powder bed fusion process and identifies challenges and opportunities for non-destructive testing from a manufacturing engineering perspective. In particular, the possibility of a process-integrated quality control is shown based on current research results. T1 - Correlation between quasistatic und fatigue properties of additively manufactured AlSi10Mg using Laser Powder Bed Fusion N2 - In order to find a resource efficient approach for the fatigue lifetime prediction of laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) processed AlSi10Mg material, results of tensile and fatigue tests were compared. The specimens were manufactured with three different L-PBF machines and studied in different heat treatment conditions (as-built, annealed, T6 heat treated). The investigations showed that the high attainable tensile strength properties after the manufacturing process are not beneficial in the high cycle fatigue (HCF) regime. In contrast, the applied heat treatments, which lead typically to a decrease of ultimate tensile strength, improved dramatically the fatigue behavior. Additionally, a clear correlation between the elongation at fracture and HCF resistance has been found for individual heat treatment conditions. This empiric relationship provides an estimation of the fatigue resistance in the presence of material defects and can be implemented in part and process approvals. The numerical results of the investigations are based upon experimental results from previous studies to reveal the relationship between the bulging effect and the hot cracking formation, as well as the mixing of alloying elements in the weld pool. The widening of the molten pool in its center area can be observed in full penetration as well as in partial penetration welds on 8 mm and 12 mm thick structural steel plates, respectively. The weld pool shape is extracted from the simulations to evaluate the extent of the necking of the solidification line as well as the bulging phenomena and its influence on the hot cracking phenomena. Relying on an earlier numerical study utilizing a fixed keyhole, simulation models considering a dynamic keyhole are developed thereto. Additionally, the mixing behavior of alloying elements during partial penetration is investigated. The link between the bulge and the studied phenomena is found to be significant. They take advantage of the fact that moderate laser fluences can produce high quality material removal without significant thermal influence. The growing availability of powerful, highly repeating laser sources and an advanced laser beam control have favored these developments. However, the laser-matter interaction can be accompanied by the production of X-rays. Small doses per laser pulse can accumulate to significant dose rates at high laser pulse repetition rates which may exceed the permitted X-ray limits for human exposure. Consequently, a proper radiation shielding must be considered in laser material processing. The paper summarizes the current state of the art in the field of undesired generation of X-ray radiation during ultrashort pulse laser material processing in air. Multilayer thermoelectric generators (ML-TEGs) are a promising alternative to conventional π-type generators due to their high filling factor, high capability of automated production and the texturing potential during the production process. Calcium cobaltite is a promising thermoelectric oxide (p-type) with highly anisotropic properties. The following study shows the development of a textured unileg ML-TEG using ceramic multilayer technology. Tape-casting and pressure assisted sintering are applied to fabricate textured calcium cobaltite. Compared to conventional sintering, pressure assisted sintering increases the strength by the factor 10. Thermoelectric properties can be tuned either towards maximum power factor or towards maximum figure of merit depending on the pressure level. As electrical insulation material, a screen-printable glass-ceramic with high resistivity and adapted coefficient of thermal expansion is developed. From various commercial pastes a metallization with low contact resistance is chosen. The unileg ML-TEG is co-fired in one single step. The demonstrators reach 80% of the simulated output power and the power output is highly reproducible between the different demonstrators (99%). These results provide the first proof-of-concept for fabricating co-fired multilayer generators based on textured calcium cobaltite with high power factor, high density, and high strength. It requires the definition of 4 bands and a single bandwidth from which all other band positions as well as bandwidths are derived. For band detection, it uses the Funk transform, which allows detection of twice as many bands as usual. CALM works for any symmetry and requires low-noise patterns of at least 320x240 pixels. The resulting errors are <2% even for such small patterns, assuming good quality. The relative errors are <0.5%. However, this requires a projection centre position best derived from a sample of a cubic phase in CALM. However, this must have been recorded under identical conditions. Two dielectrically active processes observed in the plastic crystalline phase at low and high temperatures are denoted as γ and α1 relaxation. The former is assigned to localized fluctuations of methyl groups including nitrogen atoms in the guanidinium head groups. SHS investigations reveal one calorimetrically active process termed as α2 Relaxation process. The temperature dependencies of the relaxation rates of α1 and α2 are similar for the cyclic ILCwhile for the acyclic counterpart they are different. Possible molecular assignments for the α1 and α2 relaxation are discussed in detail. Alongside relaxation processes, a significant conductivity contribution was observed for all ILCs, where the absolute value of DC conductivity increases by 4 orders of magnitude at the transition from the crystalline to the hexagonal columnar phase. The increase is traced to the change in the underlying conduction mechanism from the delocalized electrical conduction in the Cry phase to ionic conduction in the quasi 1D ion columns formed in the hexagonal columnar mesophase.
