Sandwich shell specimens with typical wind turbine blade manufacturing defects were designed and tested. The tested imperfections show a fairly significant reduction (up to 90%) of the shell test specimens‘ lifetime, depending on the type of imperfection. The international standard ISO/IEC 27001 assists organizations in setting up, maintaining and continuously improving their information security management systems. However, despite high growth rates, its international diffusion rates are quite heterogeneous. This paper explores why the diffusion of the international management system standard ISO/IEC 27001 differs across countries. We classify the adoption of ISO/IEC 27001 as a ‘preventive organizational innovation’ and draw from diffusion studies of other management system standards and information security research to develop a set of hypotheses. These relate to the impact of cultural dimensions and national ICT development. We use a negative binomial regression model with panel data covering 57 countries over a 12-year period from 2006 to 2017 to test our hypotheses. We find that the cultural dimensions future orientation, power distance, and institutional collectivism as well as high ICT development are driving factors for the diffusion of ISO/IEC 27001. We derive policy recommendations and avenues for future research. Up to date, typically bulk analysis is aimed at measuring the isotopic composition of the entire elemental content of the sample. However, the analyte element is usually present under the form of different species. Thus, separating species of interest from one another and from matrix components prior to isotope ratio measurements can provide species-specific isotopic information, which could be used for tracing the origin of environmental pollutants and elucidation of (environmental) speciation. Using on-line hyphenations of separation techniques with multicollector-ICP-MS (MC-ICP-MS) can save time and effort and enables the analysis of different species during a single measurement. Whereas some works hyphenating GC and IC with MC-ICP-MS have already been reported, LC and CE hyphenations are still inadequately represented based on the capabilities of these separation techniques. In this work, we developed an on-line hyphenation of CE with multicollector-ICP-MS (CE/MC-ICP-MS) for isotopic analysis of sulfur species using a multiple-injection approach for instrumental mass bias correction by standard-sample bracketing. With this method, the isotopic composition of sulfur in sulfate originating from river water could be analyzed without sample preparation. The results were compared to data from off-line analysis of the same samples to ensure accuracy. The precision of the results of the on-line measurements was promising regarding the differentiation of the river systems by the isotopic signature of river water sulfate. The great potential of this method is based on the versatility of the applied separation technique, not only in the environmental field but also for, e.g., biomolecules, as sulfur is the only covalently bound constituent of proteins that can be analyzed by MC-ICP-MS. T1 - Laser Induced Plasma for Chemical Vapor Deposition: Theory and Experiment N2 - A possibility of deposition from laser-induced plasma (LIP) is investigated in search for an economic and simple method to obtain isotopic compounds from enriched gaseous precursors. A breakdown in mixtures of BCl3 and BCl3 with hydrogen, argon, and methane are studied both theoretically and experimentally. Calculations of expanding plasma of different composition are performed with the use of the fluid dynamic code coupled to the equilibrium chemistry solver. Condensed phases of boron, boron carbide, and graphite are predicted showing maximum concentrations in peripheral zones of the plasma. In experiment LIP is induced in mixtures BCl3, Н2+BCl3, H2+Ar+BCl3, H2+BCl3+CH4, BF3, Н2+BF3, H2+Ar+BF3, and H2+Ar+BF3. The gases are analyzed before, during, and after laser irradiation by optical and mass spectroscopic methods. The composition of reaction products is found to be close to that predicted theoretically. The conversion of precursor gases BCl3 and BF3 into gaseous and condensed products is 100% for BCl3 and 80% for BF3. Solid deposits of up to 30 mg are obtained from all the reaction mixtures. FTIR analysis of BCl3+H2+CH4 deposits points to a presence of condensed boron and boron carbide that are also predicted by the model. Both calculations and preliminary experimental results suggest the chemical vapor deposition by LIP is promising for conversion of gaseous enriched precursors into elemental isotopes and their isotopic compounds. Toxicological relevant metals can possibly accumulate within the food web and cause harmful effects. Diatoms are a test system in ecotoxicology. Toxicological effects weaken the growth of algae which is by default investigated by means of fluorescence detection. On basis of the expose concentration as well as obtained fluorescence data potential threshold exceedance in e.g. surface waters is assessed. However, this approach does not allow for the determination of “real” accumulated metal concentration in diatoms. Common approaches are based on bulk analysis via e.g. ICP-MS, ICP-OES or AAS. But, biological variability is completely disregarded. To tackle this problem, alternative approaches are highly needed. Within the last years, sp-ICP-MS for nanoparticle as well as single cell analysis turned out as a powerful technique to analyze metal contents as well as size distributions on broad size range. But, common ICP-MS systems do not allow for multi-element detection within single particle/cell events. Thus, simultaneous MS detection devices are needed - just recently, ICP-ToF-MS experienced a revival. Within our previous work, we developed an automated sample introduction system based on a HPLC system on-line with single particle-ICP-MS, which allowed for ionic background separation and single algae analysis. However, for unambiguous tracing several fingerprint elements and multielement analysis in single algae (diatoms) is needed. Thus, we coupled our previous setup on-line to ICP-ToF-MS. Test diatom species were exposed to test substances (Zn) as well as nanoparticles (FeNPs). The developed setup allowed for a fast, automated and multielement analysis in single diatoms. Furthermore, we combined our approach with multivariate data assessment - multielement detection of characteristic fingerprint elements allowed for an unambiguous diatom tracing. As a part of the DFG research group CoDA (Concrete Damage Assessment by Coda Waves), the works within this PhD project aim for identification of damage sensitive parameters extracted from ultrasonic measurements obtained with embedded sensors, the determination of environmental (reversible) influences on the signal and the localisation of damaged areas. The main technique used for the detection of changes in the monitored material is the so-called Coda Wave Interferometry (CWI). It uses the later part of the ultrasonic recording for the detection of small changes in the sensed area and the calculation of a relative velocity change. Using this technique we can show that we are able to detect changes in concrete temperature with ultrasound measurements. This enables temperature correction for ultrasound monitoring with embedded sensors. The crucial point for imaging and localisation with coda waves is the calculation of the so-called sensitivity kernels. We propose the application of numerical wave simulations for the kernel calculations instead of the commonly used diffusivity equation. Using finite-difference wave modelling code from our DFG project partners we are able to calculate those Kernels and first results are shown in this presentation. The major task for the second year will be the development and implementation of the inversion algorithm as well as the preparation of validation experiments. Dazu wurden drei unterschiedliche Klebstoff-klassen mit typischen Fügeteilmaterialkombinationen ausgewählt und in einem Vorversuch mit jeweils 3 unterschiedlichen Prüfgeschwindigkeiten sowohl im Weg-geregelten als auch Kraft-geregelten Mode beansprucht. Die Ergebnisse ZPM vs. CAT und Kraft- vs. Weg-Regelung des Vorversuches zeigten keinerlei Unterschiede auf. Im Ergebnis wurde ein Ringversuch im Kraft-geregelten Mode (6xZPM vs. 8xCAT) für ein Referenzsystem durchgeführt, der nachwies, dass die CAT-Technologie statistisch relevante Prüfergebnisse zur Klebfestigkeit bereitstellt. Es zeigte sich, dass für zwei ZPM-Teilnehmer im Vertrauensbereich 99% statistisch signifikant etwas kleinere Werte der Klebfestigkeit bestimmt wurden, was auf geringfügige Abweichungen von der axialen Ausrichtung des eingespannten Prüflings bei der Ein-Proben-ZPM-Zugprüfung zurückgeführt wird. Up to now, the OECD identified and categorized 4730 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances-related CAS numbers. Especially in the field of technical applications (e.g. surface coatings, fire extinguishing foams) as well as pharmaceuticals, fluorinated substances gain in importance. Thus, an increasing release of fluorinated compounds into the environment is expected. The high environmental persistence of perfluorinated compounds leads to the risk of bioaccumulation. Partially fluorinated substances (polyfluorinated compounds) undergo degradation; thus, further possible fluorine species occur, which may exhibit different toxic/chemical properties. However, current target methods (e.g., HPLC/MS-MS) are not applicable for a comprehensive screening as well as assessment of pollution. Thus, the poster presents a new sum parameter method for quantitative determination of extractable organically bound fluorine (EOF) in surface water samples. The method is based on solid-phase extraction (SPE) for fluorinated compounds as well as quantitative separation of interfering inorganic fluoride in combination with high-resolution-continuum source graphite furnace molecular absorption spectrometry (HR-CS GF MAS) for quantitative analysis. By means of this technique, the detection of high resolution molecular absorption spectra (MAS) is enabled upon the addition of a modifier and the formation of a diatomic molecule (e.g. GaF) After successful optimization of the SPE procedure (maximum concentration of extractable organic fluorine), enrichment factors of about 1000 were achieved, allowing for highly sensitive fluorine detection. Next to a species-unspecific response, limits of detection in the low nanogram per liter range were achieved and real surface water samples were analyzed. EOF values in the range of about 50-300 ng/L were detected. The developed method allows for a fast and sensitive as well as selective screening of organically bound fluorine (EOF) in surface water samples, helping to elucidate pollution hotspots as well as discharge routes. Particular emphasis will be placed on inductively coupled plasma–atomic emission spectrometry, but other analytical plasmas will also be used as examples when appropriate. Selected examples on how one can manipulate the operating conditions of the plasma source, based on the results of plasma diagnostic measurements, to improve its performance used for spectrochemical analysis will also be covered. Thus, ultrafast laser processing can manifest in various morphological surface transformations, ranging from direct contour shaping to large-area-surface functionalization through the generation of self-organized nano- and microstructures. The interaction mechanisms between semiconductors and metals with ultrashort laser pulses have been extensively studied using femtosecond laser sources, generating a general understanding of the main interaction mechanisms present during the processing of those materials. In the specific case of nanometer-scaled laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS), however, the general explanation that fits all the experimental outcomes is still to be completed. The most accepted explanation consists in the interference of the incoming laser pulse with light scattered at the rough surface, e.g. via surface plasmon polaritons. Such scattering and interference effects generate a spatially modulated pattern of the absorbed optical energy featuring maxima and minima with periods very close to the laser irradiation wavelength, λ. One general criterion that allows to classify LIPSS in terms of their spatial periodicity (Λ) for normally incident radiation is the following: low spatial frequency for Λ≈λ, and high spatial frequency for Λ≪λ. In this way, the right combination of irradiation parameters (laser fluence, number of pulses per spot area unit and repetition rate) could be used to cover a wide size range that can ultimately be exploited for different applications in optics, biology, fluidics and tribology among others. Standardized leaching tests are used to measure the extent of mobilization. It is known that fresh bottom ash displays elevated concentrations of various heavy metals such as lead or zinc due to the formation of hydroxo complexes as a result of high pH values of 12 and above. Storage of BA is accompanied by ageing processes, mainly the reaction of CaO and Ca(OH)2 with CO2 leading to lower pH values in contact with water around 11. Usually heavy metals concentrations are minimum at these conditions. Knowledge of the long-term leaching behavior of potentially harmful substances is crucial for the assessment of the environmental compatibility of reusing municipal solid-waste incineration bottom ash (MSWI BA) in construction, i.e., as a road base layer. BA fractions obtained from wet-processing aiming at the improvement of environmental quality were used to investigate the mobility of relevant substances. Eluates from laboratory-scaled leaching procedures (column percolation and lysimeters) were analyzed to learn about the long-term release of substances. Unsaturated conditions and artificial rainwater were used in the lysimeter tests to simulate field conditions. In addition, batch test eluates were generated at usual liquid-to-solid ratios (L/S) for compliance testing purposes. A variety of cations and anions was measured in the eluates. The wet treatment reduces the leaching of chloride and particularly sulfate by more than 60%. The release of typical contaminants for the treated MSWI BA such as the heavy metals Cu and Cr was well below 1% in the conducted leaching tests. An increase in the Sb concentration was observed in the lysimeter experiments starting at L/S 0.75 L/kg and in the column experiment at L/S 4 L/kg is assumed to be related to decreasing concentrations of Ca and thus to the dissolution of sparingly soluble calcium antimonate. The same leaching mechanism applies with V, but the concentration levels observed are less critical regarding relevant limit values. However, on the long term the behavior of Sb could be problematic for the application of MSWI BA as secondary building material. These results can be set in a historical context and help to confirm art historical interpretations. Proofs of certain pigments can be used for dating purposes and may reveal if the artist used not only local but also imported materials. A pilot study of two Chinese reverse glass paintings from the late 19th (Yingying and Hongniang) and early 20th centuries (The Archer) was performed using a multi-analytical approach including X-ray fluorescence (XRF), diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) and Raman spectroscopy. This approach allowed the identification of the pigments and the classification of the binding media. The results reveal a combined use of traditional Chinese and imported European materials. Several pigments like cinnabar, lead white, orpiment, carbon black and copper-arsenic green (probably emerald green) were found in both paintings; red lead, artificial ultramarine blue, Prussian blue and ochre appear in at least one of the paintings. The proof of limewash (calcite and small amounts of portlandite) as a backing layer in “Yingying and Hongniang” indicates that clamshell white was also used for reverse glass paintings. Drying oil was classified as a binding media in most areas of both paintings. However, the orange background of The Archer yielded prominent bands of both proteinaceous and fatty binder. Verschlechterung der relevanten Oberflächenperformances, wie z.B. Griffigkeit, Ebenheit oder Geräuschpegel kommt. Dies wird gegenwärtig mit den Texturgeometrieveränderungen in Verbindung gebracht. Vor diesem Hintergrund stellt sich zunächst die Frage, in wie weit die Grindingtextur und deren Veränderungen messtechnisch erfasst werden können und welche statistischen Kenngrößen dabei abgeleitet werden können. In diesem Zusammenhang ist eine Evaluation der dreidimensionalen messtechnischen Ansprache von Grindingoberflächen notwendig. Perspektivisch bedarf es einer Korrelationsanalyse zwischen der o.g. Texturkenngrößen mit Veränderungen der Oberflächenperformances. Dieser Beitrag zeigt, dass mithilfe eines auf Streifenlichtprojektion basierenden Messsystems, eine hochaufgelöste volumetrische Erfassung der Oberflächentopografie verschiedener Grindingtexturen sowohl im Labor als auch in situ möglich ist. Darauf aufbauend galt es, die messtechnischen Voraussetzungen zur Gewährleistung reproduzierbarer Messungen zu schaffen. However, the analyte element is usually present under the form of different species. Thus, separating species of interest from one another and from matrix components prior to isotope ratio measurements can provide species-specific isotopic information, which could be used for tracing the origin of environmental pollutants and elucidation of (environmental) speciation. Using on-line hyphenations of separation techniques with multicollector-ICP-MS (MC-ICP-MS) can save time and effort and enables the analysis of different species during a single measurement. In this work, we developed an on-line hyphenation of CE with multicollector-ICP-MS (CE/MC-ICP-MS) for isotopic analysis of sulfur species. With this method, the isotopic composition of sulfur in sulfate originating from river water could be analyzed without sample preparation. The results were compared with data from off-line analysis of the same samples to ensure accuracy. The precision of the results of the on-line measurements was high enough to distinguish the rivers from one another by the isotopic signature of the river water sulfate. Next to environmental applications, a future field could be species-specific isotopic analysis of biomolecules, as sulfur is the only covalently bound constituent of proteins which can be analyzed by MC-ICP-MS. In the present work a HR-CS-GFMAS method for extractable organically bound fluorine (EOF) analysis in surface water samples was developed by us. The method is based on SPE extraction of organically bound fluorine even in the presence of high fluoride concentrations followed by HR-CS-GFMAS analysis upon elution. Due to high enrichment factors, LODs in the low ng/L range were achieved. We successfully applied our SPE HR-CS-GFMAS method to Rhine water samples and EOF in the range of about 50-300 ng/L was detectable. Developed for the use in inorganic trace analysis, ICP-MS is nowadays a valuable tool for bioanalytical questions. Especially the use of ICP-MS for quantitative proteomics by measuring heteroatoms has gained recognition in the last decade, considering that established quantification methods like organic mass spectrometry depend on labelling of the target protein or the existence of matched protein and peptide standards. The need for reliable quantification of proteins is continuously growing, but only a limited number of well-characterized and quantified protein standards are available so far. Accurately quantified, traceable protein standards are necessary to ensure comparability of measurements between laboratories, not only in basic research but also in a clinical context. One example of this is the Alzheimer’s disease biomarker tau protein. However, existing tau standards lack comparability, emphasizing the need for a well-quantified protein standard. Therefore, we developed a method for the quantification of pure proteins via sulfur isotope dilution ICP-MS (IDMS). As sulfur is present in two amino acids, cysteine and methionine, it exists in nearly all proteins and can be used for the quantification of proteins of known stoichiometry. We employed simple offline strategies for the separation of non-protein bound sulfur species. Quantification of these contaminations by IDMS allows for correction of the protein content and enables reliable protein quantification. We report the protein mass fractions of a standard reference material and commercially available proteins determined by sulfur IDMS, including the expanded uncertainties. The developed method can be applied for the reliable and traceable quantification of pure proteins for use as in-house standards. Here, we successfully used this method for the quantification of the tau protein. The obtained hydrogen is either stored and used in a fuel cell or consumed on-site in industrial applications. Water electrolysis systems (WES) are based on two half cell reactions, such as oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) which both proceed simultaneously. The OER suffers from slow reaction kinetics and thus limits the overall performance. The most promising compounds in acidic electrolysis are IrO2 and RuO2. Due to their rare abundance and extremely high price a wide use of acidic WES was prevented. Lowering the catalysts noble metal content by mixing iridium with titanium reduces the production costs. Thin films are produced by dip coating a solution of metal oxide precursors alongside with a polymer template dissolved in ethanol. The obtained samples are subsequently calcined to the remove the template and adjust crystallinity. Finally, an additional iridium deposition step was performed on the outer surface plane area. Understanding the influence of structural and morphological aspects on the OER-activity is beneficial to further optimize WES. The current presentation will thus give detailed insights to structural aspects obtained by Raman spectroscopy, small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering which are then combined with electrochemical parameters to deduce structure-activity relationships. Concentration and surface modification of boehmite nanoparticles are key factors for abovementioned enhancements. To understand the underlying mechanisms, more detailed research of micro- and nanoscopic mechanical properties is required. The presented study aims to investigate the influence of concentration and surface modification of boehmite on the stiffness of the bulk epoxy by means of AFM-based approaches: Force-Distance curves (FDC) on the sub- microscale and Intermodulation AFM and amplitude-dependent force spectroscopy (ADFS) on the nanoscale. For this purpose, stiffness-maps of epoxy filled with boehmite, with and without surface modification (HAc-boehmite) were obtained by FDC. These measurements showed a slight increase in overall stiffness of composite with increasing the nanoparticle content. The stiffening effect was observed to be intensified with HAc-boehmite. Since the lateral resolution of FDC is not high enough to distinguish nanoparticles, this effect was assumed to be due to the inevitable inclusion of nanoparticles in the measurement. By using Intermodulation-AFM, yielding ADFS stiffness maps with the resolution of <10 nm, we were able to calculate the average stiffness of bulk epoxy without the interference of nanoparticles. It was expected that the stiffness of regions faraway from particles would be equal to neat epoxy. In contrast, the results showed a drastic increase in stiffness of epoxy with increasing boehmite concentration (0, 1, 2.5, and 15%) especially in case of introducing 15wt% HAc-boehmite. Another important observation was formation of a spatial structure with non-homogenous stiffness distribution in bulk epoxy with HAc-boehmite. The underlying mechanisms of described observations are not fully understood yet. One hypothesis is the local increase in crosslinking density which we aim to investigate in our further studies by combining Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analysis (DMTA) and Intermodulation-AFM. Improving the performance of the material with desirable properties requires understanding of the interaction between polymer chains and nanoparticles and the properties of the interphase as well. Boehmite, a mineral of aluminum with basic unit of AlO(OH), is a novel and promising nanofiller which leads to enhanced performance of polymer composites. It has been recently reported that boehmite nanoparticles have reinforcing effect on epoxy matrix in carbon-fiber composites. It was primarily assumed that these improvements are due to very high Young’s modulus of boehmite particles. However, in our latest study we presented new values for the Young’s modulus of boehmite much lower than those reported earlier. This brings up the importance of interphase properties, e.g. the crosslink density, which can have the dominant role in the overall material property. Nevertheless, due to resolution limitations of conventional nanoprobing approaches, characterization of the interphase between individual particles and matrix is a challenge. In this study, the main goal is to investigate the interphase of the epoxy/boehmite nanocomposites using AFM-based methods. We simplify the three-dimensional nanocomposite system to a two-dimensional horizontally layered sample with a large and easy to access interphase area. For this purpose, 1µm coatings of hydrothermally synthesized boehmite are prepared as the substrate on which the epoxy is later molded and cured. AFM surface potential and force maps were obtained on the cross-sectional cut of epoxy/ boehmite sample. The results show unexpectedly a large interphase area (approx. 1 µm) with different electrical and mechanical properties comparing to bulk epoxy. The average force-distance curves from this region showed more elastic behavior compared to bulk. The underlying mechanism of this influence is not fully understood yet. Thus, further investigation on the interphase region using the novel Nano-IR approach provides more information about the chemical characteristics. Numerical simulation will give complementary information to understand the effect of nanoparticles on the crosslinking density of the interphase. This can be different to bulk epoxy due to either different local temperature gradients or due to a surface selectivity of boehmite towards the monomer molecules. The contamination of mycotoxins in food and feed products has been recognized to be an important safety issue for human and animal health. In the context of food safety, medical herbs nowadays are also considered as potential source of mycotoxins. Considering that mycotoxins are generally stable compounds and could not be destroyed completely during food-processing operations, prevention of contamination is identified as main issue. Currently, biochemical, and immunochemical methods based on the use of antibodies as a specific recognition bioreagents are increasingly found to be applied in screening. Along with good common enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), more and more widely used method is fluorescence polarization immunoassay (FPIA). These methods help to monitor of many toxic substances in large number of samples and carried out quickly, easily, cheaply, and give good results in quantifying the one or more substances. That is why the use of immunochemical methods of analysis, such as ELISA and FPIA, is the most promising for solving this problem. Thus, the aim of our work is to optimize the determination of mycotoxins by ELISA and FPIA in medical herbs. We selected antibodies and a tracer for the FPIA, then we constructed obtained a calibration curve and determined the sensitivity of this method for the samples in aqueous media. Then, the optimal sample preparation was elaborated: for spiked nuts samples were selected and prepared and a calibration curve was obtained with respect to the matrix effect. After that, the analysis of spiked nuts samples was performed by ELISA and FPIA and the sensitivity of both methods was compared. These particles can be transported by air and surface runoff and might also infiltrate the soil and consequently affect terrestrial ecosystems. The estimated tire wear (TW) emissions are immense, with 1.33 106 t a-1 in Europe. Despite this, only little is known about the environmental contents or the fate of TW. One reason for this knowledge gap is the challenging analysis of TW in environmental samples. Detection of TW with spectroscopic methods is problematic due to high fluorescence interferences caused by contained black carbon. One analytical approach is to use zinc (Zn), a typical additive in tires, as a specific marker for the quantification of tire wear. However, any Zn originating from the sample matrix must be separated beforehand and requires elaborate sample preparation. Car tires consist partly of synthetic rubbers, such as styrene-butadiene-rubber (SBR). This SBR could be identified and quantified via Thermal-Extraction-Desorption-Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (TED-GC-MS). This newly developed and fast screening method allows the simultaneous detection of microplastics and TW mass contents and requires minimal to no sample preparation. Firstly the sample is thermally extracted in a thermobalance under a nitrogen atmosphere. The resulting specific decomposition products are sorbed on a solid phase adsorber, which is then transferred to a GC-MS via an autosampler, where the products are desorbed, separated and identified. Cyclohexenylbenzene is used as a specific marker for SBR. Here we investigated top layer soil samples, collected at the roadside of highly frequented German highways. Samples were analyzed without sample preparation, and SBR was detected in all investigated samples in mass contents ranging from 67.2 to 2230 mg kg-1. A correlation between SBR and Zn content in the soil was confirmed, while the correlation between SBR and Corg was hardly pronounced. We successfully demonstrated the application of TED-GC-MS as a screening method for tire wear in soil samples. The present study will discuss these analytical results in detail as well as sampling parameters like sampling depth and distance to the roadside, and the effect of the particle size on the particle transport by water runoff and air.
