This report describs the characterisation of nanoPP analysed in the PlasticTrace project aiming to develop a reference material. The nanoPP was analysed mainly by light scattering methods. Homogeneity control was done by DLS. T1 - Data enhancement for active thermography N2 - Pulse thermography is a non-destructive testing method based on infrared imaging of transient thermal patterns. Heating the surface of the structure under test for a short period of time generates a non-stationary temperature distribution and thus a thermal contrast between the defect and the sound material. Due to measurement noise, preprocessing of the experimental data is necessary, before reconstruction algorithms can be applied. We propose a decomposition of the measured temperature into Green's function solutions to eliminate noise. The requirements of the IAEA safety standards for transport conditions implies high loading on the containment system. The integrity of the containment system has to be ensured in mechanical and thermal tests. The containment system of German SNF and HLW transport packages usually includes bolted lids with metal gaskets. The finite element (FE) method is recommended for the analysis of lid systems according to the guideline BAM-GGR 012 for assessment of bolted lid and trunnion systems. FE analyses provide more accurate and detailed information about loading and deformation of such kind of structures. The results allow the strength assessment of the lid and bolts as well as the evaluation of relative displacements between the lid and the cask body in the area of the gasket groove. This paper discusses aspects concerning FE simulation of lid systems for Type B(U) packages for the transport of SNF and HLW. The work is based on the experiences of BAM Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing as the German competent authority for the mechanical design assessment of such kind of packages. The issues considered include modeling strategies, analysis techniques and the interpretation of results. A particular focus of this paper is on the evaluation of the results with regard to FE accuracy, influence of the FE contact formulation and FE modeling techniques to take the metallic gasket into account. T1 - Brillouin gain spectrum characterization in POF fabricated by different manufacturers at 1.32 and 1.55 um N2 - The Brillouin gain spectra (BGS) in perfluorinated graded-index polymer optical fibers (PFGl-POFs) are characterized at 1.32 and 1.55 pm. Three kinds of PFGl-POFs with the same core diameter but fabricated by different manufacturers are tested. For all the PFGl-POFs, the Stokes power measured at 1.32 pm is higher than that at 1.55 pm eine to the lower propagation loss, but significant difference in Stokes power is observed among the three. Based on the measurement by optical time-domain reflectometry, we show that the actual Propagation loss of the PFGl-POFs plays a crucial role in observing BGS. T1 - Spot welding and weldbonding of high strength steels for lightweight auto body manufacturing N2 - The resistance spot welding procedure is one of the most important joining technique in lightweight car body shell mass production. Especially for newly developed ultra high strength steels (UHSS) and advanced high strength steels (AHSS), this joining technique has more advantages than other thermal and mechanical joining procedures for thin Steel sheets. Additionally, the technique of adhesive bonding and its combination with the technique of resistance spot welding called weldbonding becomes more and more important. The weldbonding affords many advantages, e.g. improved crash performance, fatigue behaviour and corrosion resistance. The main target of the contribution is to show the influence of different joined ultra and advanced high strength steels on the process reliability for both the resistance spot welding process and the weldbonding process. In this connection the influence of surface conditions of the steel sheets, the applied adhesive and the choice of the welding parameters on the process reliability will be studied. The results for the weldbonding procedure are based on different adhesives. Based on the representation of welding current ranges by weldability lobes, Statements concerning the weldbonding process reliability for some special AHSS and UHSS will be given. The mechanical behaviour of spot welded and weldbonded joints for different AHSS and UHSS will be studied.
