T1 - Discussion of creep phenomena during initial loading of type 4 composite pressure vessels N2 - To maintain the highest safety standards for compressed gas storage in composite pressure vessels, a deeper understanding of their ageing mechanism is required. In this study, two designs of type 4 cylinders were manufactured the only difference being the internal pressure function used during the filament winding process. Hence, their residual stress state and the quality of the composite layers varied. Ten pressure vessels were initially loaded under sustained pressure and increased temperature and later subjected to slow burst tests. Comparing the results with cylinders tested in a pristine state underlines a significant improvement in the performance of initially loaded cylinders of one of the designs. This phenomenon was caused by a significant decrease of the scattering of burst pressures within a sample. At the same time, a slight decrease of the burst pressures could be observed. An explanation of this behavior could be supported by strain measurements with fiber optic sensors, which were embedded in the composite material. The strains measured during the initial loading indicate a stress redistribution, which has an impact on the strength of the pressure vessel. Moreover, an increased stiffness during the slow burst tests after initial loading was observed that indicates a better exploitation of the individual layers of the composite structure. The study supports previous observations on the increased performance after initial loading and provides new insights into the strain development in creep effects in type 4 pressure vessels. As part of the European InBridge4EU project, this study addresses methodological uncertainties in linking vertical bridge vibrations to lateral track creep—a key focus area for modernizing assessment protocols. A comparative analysis of two acceleration postprocessing methods (peak identification vs. fatigue-derived rainflow counting) as part of a recently proposed framework was conducted using an example bridge and train combination. Results demonstrate that rainflow counting yields more conservative creep estimates with the bulk of cumulative vibration-induced creep attributable to accelerations exceeding 3 m/s2. However, discretizing acceleration ranges into 1 m/s2 bins introduced significant errors compared to continuous cycle data, highlighting sensitivity to analysis parameters. These findings underscore the complexity of reconciling laboratory-derived harmonic vibration models with real-world bridge dynamics, where non-uniform acceleration patterns dominate. The research directly informs ongoing efforts to refine standardized criteria for ballasted track stability, particularly through the InBridge4EU project’s systematic re-evaluation of vibration limits and their engineering implications. Previous studies have shown that measured dynamic responses often lack the sensitivity needed for effective localized damage detection. To address this issue, our study focuses on distinguishing environmental effects from damage related effects in measured data to enhance vibration-based damage identification methods. Experimentally, the problem of prestress loss in a prestressed concrete bridge model was examined. By adjusting the pre-stressing force in a large-scale concrete bridge model, cracking phenomena were observed. To demonstrate field monitoring of a large-scale prestressed structure, noise recording was performed and the measurement data was analyzed with operational modal analysis. Additionally, ultrasonic testing, known for its high sensitivity in damage localization, was used to cross-check the structural damage. Seismic and coda wave interferometry were also employed to estimate wave velocities, providing insights into the level of prestress loss and temperature sensitivity. Ultimately, these measurable wave properties help to overcome the uncertainties associated with traditional vibration-based damage detection methods. A large fraction of these sludges is incinerated; the ashes generated in this process, often referred to as wastepaper sludge ash (WSA), have the potential to be used as binder material, either alone or as supplementary cementitious material. However, ashes from different paper mills differ in their Chemical and mineralogical composition, thus, the reaction products and the properties of the hardened binders may vary s i gn i fi cantley. In the present study, a calcite-rich WSA was analyzed for reaction products and strength development. The WSA contained, besides calcite, hydraulic phases such as tricalcium aluminate (C3A) and belite (C2S), lime as well as inert phases. When activated with water, the WSA yielded a compressive strength of up to 12.3 MPa and the major hydration product was monocarboaluminate (C4A CO2 IIH2O or C4ACH11). Activation with 2M NaOH or 2M KOH solution caused a more rapid strength gain until one day of curing, but afterwards the strength development slowed down and the strength afiter 28 days was significantly lower than for the water-activated pastes. From TG analyses it is apparent that the higher strength of the alkaliactivated pastes after one day of curing was caused by a more rapid consumption of calcite and associated formation of C4ACH11. At later curing times the amount of calcite did not change substantially and consequently strength development almost ceased. The results demonstrate the complex influence of alkaline conditions on the hydration of WSA and show that the reaction products, which determine the durability properties of the hardened pastes (and materials made from it), of the calcite-rich WSA differ from the products of other WS As, as discussed in the article. Die Reibungswärme, die z.B. bei kleinsten Bewegungen zwischen der Spule und deren Stützstruktur entsteht, kann bewirken, dass die kritische Temperatur des Supraleiters lokal überschritten wird und ein normalleitender Bereich entsteht. Aufgrund der bei Normalleitung entstehenden jouleschen Wärme kann sich dieser Bereich weiter erwärmen und schnell ausbreiten. Dieser Vorgang wird als Quench bezeichnet und führt zum schlagartigen Verdampfen des extrem teuren Kältemittels und zu Betriebsunterbrechungen von mehreren Tagen. Da diese Quenche durch Reibungswärme verursacht werden, ist es notwendig, das Reibverhalten der beteiligten Werkstoffe so zu optimieren, dass kein kritischer Betriebszustand erreicht wird. Dies betrifft in erster Linie Polymerfolien, die zur elektrischen Isolierung zwischen der Spule und der Stützstruktur notwendig sind. Neben zu hoher Reibung allgemein müssen ausgeprägte Haftreibungsspitzen und StickSlip-Effekte vermieden werden. Mit diesem Ziel wurde das Reibverhalten von PTFE-, PET- und Pl-Folien bei tiefen Temperaturen und den für diese Anwendung typischen niedrigen Gleitgeschwindigkeiten untersucht. Es zeigte sich, dass die Reibung zwischen Polymeroberflächen in Flüssighelium allgemein höher, aber stabiler als in Flüssigstickstoff ist. Allerdings hängt das Reibverhalten erheblich von der Werkstoffpaarung ab. Der Stick-Slip-Effekt nimmt bei allen untersuchten Polymer-Polymer-Paarungen mit wachsender Kontaktpressung zu. PET gegen PET hat das ungünstigste Reibverhalten und sollte bei hohen Pressungen vermieden werden. Zum Vergleich getestete Paarungen von Polymeren gegen Aluminium zeigten deutlich günstigeres Reibverhalten ohne signifikanten Stick-Slip. During the project, a need emerged to evaluate the stability of the fire source and the Consistency of heat exposure. This paper addresses these concerns by comparing the mass loss rates across a series of tests and analysing averaged temperature readings at various locations on the façade. Difficulties arise in the assessment or predictability of gas explosion hazard when turbulence occurs. In this research especially venting at elevated initial pressure has been shown to accelerated flame propagations and therefore, to a considerably higher reduced pressure. Therefore, it is essential to provide a broader data base of turbulent combustion and explosion behaviour to verify the existing rules or to determine their safety-relevant parameters. For a better safety assessment or design of protective systems the turbulent combustion and accelerated gas explosion behaviour of quiescent methane in air were investigated at initial pressures up to 8 bar using vessels up to 100 litres. In particular a systematic study was performed to investigate the influence of turbulence on the overpressure development during accelerated gas explosion. Moreover, the present study consider the position of the spark igniters, the burning velocity and the maximum pressure rise for different concentration of fuel as well as the size of orifice and/or vent area. A choice of experimental tests showed under the investigated conditions that not only turbulence inducing obstacles but also over sized vent areas could lead to an increased pressure development and therefore to an inacceptable safety state. Due to the numerous influencing variables of explosion behaviour the presented experimental results help to judge whether another more sophisticated method should be applied than the one described in standards. Gefordert wird, dass sich der Achsschenkel auch unter Akzeptanz begrenzten Risswachstums hinreichend elastisch-plastisch verformen kann, ohne dass es zum Bruch kommt. Der Fahrer soll anschließend anhand der bleibenden Verformungen bemerken können, dass mit seinem Fahrzeug etwas nicht in Ordnung ist. Eine Voraussetzung für dieses Bauteilverhalten ist eine hinreichende Bruchzähigkeit des Werkstoffs. Diese, wie auch die Rissspitzenbeanspruchung, müssen ermittelt werden, um den bruchmechanischen Sicherheitsnachweis führen zu können. Zur Ermittlung der mechanisch-technologischen und bruchmechanischen Werkstoffeigenschaften wurde ein Prüfkonzept entwickelt, bei dem die Proben an der potenziell kritischen Stelle direkt aus den geschmiedeten Achsschenkeln entnommen werden. Die experimentelle Werkstoffcharakterisierung bildet dann die Beanspruchungsbedingungen beim Überlastereignis ab. Im Rahmen der Produktion stehen jedoch nur Kerbschlagarbeitswerte zur Verfügung und aufwändige bruchmechanische Versuche sollen vermieden werden. Deshalb wurde eine Korrelation zur Abschätzung der vorhandenen Bruchzähigkeit aus der Kerbschlagarbeit herangezogen. Es ergibt sich eine Ergebnismatrix, die die Einflussgrößen Versagenswahrscheinlichkeit, Temperatur und Bruchzähigkeit verknüpft. T1 - Zur Frage der Verwendung von Untermaßprobenergebnissen des Kerbschlagbiegeversuchs - Eine ernüchternde Bilanz N2 - Der Kerbschlagbiegeversuch ist seit der ersten Hälfte des letzten Jahrhunderts standardisiert und seit langem als Prüfverfahren international genormt. Weltweit sind zu garantierende Werte der Kerbschlagenergie (KV) und Übergangstemperaturen (TÜ) in Produktnormen und Regelwerken festgelegt. Unter bestimmten Bedingungen besteht dabei die Option, statt Normalproben Untermaßproben zu prüfen. Im Rahmen einer Untersuchung der BAM wurde der aktuelle Status von Prüf- und Produktnormen sowie Regelwerken zur Bewertung der Bauteilintegrität hinsichtlich ihres Umgangs mit Untermaßprobenergebnissen erfasst. Zur Schaffung einer geeigneten aktuellen Datenbasis wurden an ISO-V-Proben der Dicken 2,5, 5,0, 7,5 und 10,0 mm aus vier aktuellen Baustählen KV2-T-Kurven ermittelt. Es wurden unterschiedliche Vorgehensweisen zur Kurvenanpassung und Festlegung von Übergangstemperaturen praktiziert. Ferner kamen verfügbare Ansätze zur Skalierung von Untermaßprobenergebnissen auf die Werte von Normalproben zur Anwendung. Das Ausmaß des Probendickeneffektes ist werkstoff- und temperaturabhängig. Im Bereich der Werkstoffprüfung ist akzeptiert, dass die Ergebnisse von Normal- und Untermaß-proben nicht ohne Weiteres ineinander überführt werden können. Der Stand der Produktnormung und der Regelwerke ist jedoch im besten Falle als unzureichend, vielfach jedoch schlicht als falsch zu bezeichnen. In einem weiten anwendungsrelevanten Temperaturbereich werden hier sogar deutlich nicht-konservative Skalierungsergebnisse geliefert. Zu diesen Effekten zählen Wechselwirkungen zwischen den Polymeren und Ionen in der Porenlösung, frühe Phasenbildung, zeitabhängige und kompetitive Adsorption zwischen anionischen Polymeren und Sulfationen, Bildung von Phasen in der Porenlösung sowie Morphologieänderungen an Partikeloberflächen. Die frühe Hydratation von Zement, die durch Lösungs- und Fällungsprozesse angetrieben wird, beeinflusst diese Effekte erheblich. Das permanente Ungleichgewicht der Porenlösung führt zu Veränderungen der Partikeloberflächen, welches widerum zur Folge hat, dass rheometrische Messungen dieser Zementleime anfällig für Streuungen sind. Um die Einflüsse aus der Zementhydratation zu minimieren, wurden die rheometrischen Untersuchungen mit Zement in Porenlösung durchgeführt. Die Experimente wurden mit verschiedenen Feststoffvolumenfraktionen durchgeführt und mit den Ergebnissen identischer Systeme mit Wasser anstelle von Porenlösung verglichen. Zusätzlich wurden die gleichen Systeme mit Zugabe von Polycarboxylatethern untersucht. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Leime mit Wasser niedrigere Werte für Fließgrenze und plastische Viskosität aufweisen, als die Systeme mit Porenlösung. Während die Polymere eine Verminderung der Fließgrenze zur Folge hatte, war die Wirkung von Polymeren auf die plastische Viskosität vernachlässigbar. T1 - Aspekte der analytischen bruchmechanischen Bauteilbewertung N2 - Am Beispiel eines abgesetzten zylindrischen Bauteils (Achsschenkel) werden Probleme der analytischen bruchmechanischen Bauteilbewertung diskutiert. Als Basis-philosophie wird ein Fail Safe-Kriterium (kontrolliertes Versagen) angesetzt. Die Forderung ist, dass sich der Achsschenkel, bevor er bricht, in einem Ausmaß plastisch verformen kann, bei dem der Fahrer bemerkt, dass mit seinem Fahrzeug etwas nicht in Ordnung ist. Um das zu gewährleisten, muss der Werkstoff einen bestimmten Riss-widerstand aufweisen. Dazu werden im hier vorgestellten ersten Teil des Projektes mittels FEM Rissspitzenbeanspruchungen in Abhängigkeit von der Auslenkung des Zylinders und angenommener Rissgrößen ermittelt. Diese finden als Zielgrößen in der weiteren Analyse Anwendung. Da eine einfach umzusetzende Lösung angestrebt wird, werden zusätzlich analytische Rechnungen an Ersatzgeometrien (halbunendliche Platte und Vollzylinder), aber mit den realen Spannungen am Bauteil durchgeführt. Es zeigt sich, dass die Ergebnisse wegen des Steifigkeitsunterschieds zwischen Bauteil und Ersatzgeometrie unvertretbar konservativ sind. Alternativ wird ein hybrides Konzept vorgestellt, für das die Modellparameter mittels FEM bestimmt werden. Es liefert sehr genaue Ergebnisse. Im Rahmen der analytischen Rechenvorschrift können die Lösungen auf andere Werkstoffe übertragen werden, ohne dass zusätzliche FEM-Analysen notwendig sind. T2 - 54. T1 - Investigation of the Master Curve Concept for ferritic Ductile Cast Iron N2 - Based on state-of-the-art research and regulations, the application of the fracture mechanics master curve (MC) concept to ferritic ductile cast iron (DCI) is being investigated in a recently started German joint research project between BAM Berlin and MPA Stuttgart. This paper outlines the research approach and the planned investigations and provides first results. According to the IAEA guidelines SSG 26, the safety assessment of DCI containers for transport as well as interim and final storage of radioactive materials is based on the fracture mechanics criterion of general crack initiation exclusion. Within this context, the focus of the current research project is on the further development of brittle fracture safety assessment methods under dynamic loading conditions. Within fracture mechanics safety assessments for steels in nuclear technology, the probabilistic MC concept according to ASTM E1921 is currently used for quasi-static loading conditions as a supplement to the established deterministic ASME reference curve concept. The MC concept allows for an effective statistical consideration of the scatter of the material toughness in the transition regime. Furthermore, the MC can also be used for elevated loading rates as they occur in accident or crash scenarios. However, for DCI, a systematic review of potential modifications to the MC assumptions and procedure according to ASTM E1921 and an associated validation are still lacking. Therefore, a corresponding methodology shall be established to determine and assess dynamic fracture toughness values of DCI in the ductile-to-brittle transition regime, using samples extracted from a component. For the experimental program, a DCI material was produced as it is generally used for transport and storage containers. A basic mechanical-technological material characterization consisting of tensile, Charpy, and Pellini tests is planned. A comprehensive fracture mechanics test program was compiled covering dynamic testing of DC(T)9, C(T)25, C(T)50, SE(B)10, SE(B)25, and SE(B)140 specimens. Moreover, numerical analyses of different specimen geometries and test setups are planned to investigate the influences of stress triaxiality and loading rate. Throughout the experimental program, the microstructure-property relationship will be investigated based on quantitative metallographic and fractographic analyses. Finally, different MC assessment strategies will be considered, and modifications will be made if necessary. A1 - Prinz, Carsten T1 - Enhanced pore space analysis by use of μ-CT, MIP, N2 - We investigate the pore space of rock samples with respect to different petrophysical parameters using various methods, which provide data upon pore size distributions, including micro computed tomography (μ-CT), mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and spectral induced polarization (SIP). The resulting cumulative distributions of pore volume as a function of pore size are compared. Considering that the methods differ with regard to their limits of resolution, a multiple length scale characterization of the pore space geometry is proposed, that is based on a combination of the results from all of these methods. The findings of this approach are compared and discussed by using Bentheimer sandstone. Additionally, we compare the potential of SIP to provide a pore size distribution with other commonly used methods (MIP, NMR). The limits of resolution of SIP depend on the usable frequency range (between 0.002 and 100 Hz). The methods with similar resolution show a similar behavior of the cumulative pore volume distribution in the overlapping pore size range. The methods μ-CT and NMR provide the pore body size while MIP and SIP characterize the pore throat size. Using this difference, the average pore body to throat ratio is determined to be about three for the Bentheimer sandstone. Our study shows that a good agreement between the pore radii distributions can only be achieved if the curves are adjusted considering the resolution and pore volume in the relevant range of pore radii. However, for ductile cast iron (DCI), a systematic review of potential modifications to the assumptions and the procedure according to ASTM E1921 and an associated validation are still lacking. For this reason, the application of the fracture mechanics MC concept to ferritic ductile cast iron is being investigated in a joint research project between MPA Stuttgart and BAM Berlin. According to Hojo et al. (2008) the MC concept is already in use for the brittle fracture safety assessment of ferritic forged steel containers, which would suggest an extension to ductile cast iron containers. In compliance with IAEA SSG-26, the safety assessment of DCI containers for transport as well as storage of radioactive materials is based on the fracture mechanics criterion of general exclusion of crack initiation. Within this context, the focus of the current research project is on the further development of brittle fracture safety assessment methods. Therefore, a methodology shall be established to determine and assess dynamic fracture toughness values of DCI in the ductile-to-brittle transition regime, using only a low number of small fracture mechanics test specimens extracted from a component. For the experimental program, a DCI material of grade GJS-400 (GGG-40) has been produced as it is generally used for transport and storage containers for nuclear material. A basic mechanical-technological material characterization consisting of tensile, Charpy, and Pellini tests has been planned and a comprehensive fracture mechanics test program was compiled covering dynamic testing of DC(T)9, C(T)25, C(T)50, SE(B)10, SE(B)25, and SE(B)140 specimens at various loading rates and temperatures. The specimen testing is divided between the project partners based on specimen geometry. MPA Stuttgart has been tasked with the testing of the C(T), DC(T) and Pellini specimens, while BAM Berlin was assigned the SE(B), Charpy and tensile tests. These tests allow for the determination of the loading rate relevant for brittle fracture via C(T)25 specimens and an assessment of size effects by transferring the relevant loading rate to other specimen geometries and sizes. Numerical analyses of different specimen geometries and test setups are planned to investigate the influence of stress triaxiality and loading rate. Furthermore, the time-dependent course of the Weibull stress is assessed via these numerical analyses. Throughout the experimental program, the microstructure-property relationship will also be investigated based on quantitative metallographic and fractographic analyses like scanning electron microscope images and metallographic sections. With the acquired experimental database fundamental assumptions of the MC concept, like the weakest link model and the Weibull distribution, will be assessed for the application to DCI. In the end, the applicability of the MC concept will be evaluated and if necessary, modifications to the MC concept for DCI will be proposed. T1 - Chunky Graphite - Recognition, Quantification, and Impact on Properties of Spheroidal Graphite Cast Iron N2 - Since there is a continuously growing demand for complex, frequently heavy-sectioned spheroidal graphite cast iron (SGI) castings it is worth paying attention to the chunky graphite (CHG) degeneration which may occur under certain technological circumstances. Although a reference line for preventive actions in terms of general metallurgical and process measures could be drawn to avoid CHG in heavy-sectioned ferritic SGI castings, a broad majority of experts claim the avoidance of CHG in heavy sections cannot yet be rated a hundred percent process safe. A major reason may be seen in the fact that a universal, generally accepted explanation of CHG formation and growth has not yet been established, although several theories have been proposed. Nevertheless, metallurgical aspects are not in the focus of this paper. This paper is about the current state of methods to detect CHG in SGI on the laboratory and component scales. Capabilities and limits of different metallographic, fractographic and non-destructive computer tomographic methods to recognize and quantify CHG are discussed. With respect to the characteristic fili-gree three-dimensional string-like, multi-branched CHG structure, which is non-isometric and non-dispersed, serious implications on the possibility to quantitatively characterize the amount of CHG must be considered. In contrary to the metallurgical aspects, the knowledge about the impact of CHG on the materials and com-ponents properties is still surprisingly limited. Therefore, special emphasis of this paper is on the impact of CHG degeneration on the properties of ferritic SGI. Experimental results are reviewed to illustrate the effect of CHG on mechanical strength and ductility properties as well as fracture mechanics properties in terms of crack resistance and fracture toughness. The present situation is characterized by discussions and uncertainty about the acceptance or rejection of SGI components containing CHG. Addressing this, conclusions from the materials engineering point of view are drawn for quality control, a safe operational strategy in the foundry and component safety. T1 - Towards a better understanding of electrical relaxation N2 - Other than commonly assumed the relaxation times observed in the electrical low-frequency range (1 mHz – 40 kHz) of natural porous media like sandstones and tuff stones cannot be directly related to the dominant (modal) pore throat sizes, measured (e.g.) with mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP). Working with a great variety of sandstones from very different origins and featuring great variations in textural and chemical compositions as well as in geometrical pore space properties, it was observed that particularly samples with narrow pore throats were characterized by long (low-frequency) relaxations. These, however, can (following the current theories) be rather explained by long “characteristic length scales” in these media or low diffusion coefficients along the electrical double layer. However, there is no straightforward way (or single approved method) of getting reliable numbers for properties such as the lengths of pore throats, the diameter and length of the wide pores and their respective distributions. Consequently we follow a multi-methodical approach and combine the benefits of MIP, micro-computed tomography (μ-CT) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to achieve much deeper insight due to the different resolutions and sensitivities to either pore constrictions (throats) or wide pores. This helps us to understand, whether the observed electrical relaxation phenomena actually depend on geometric length scales or rather on other properties such as chemical composition, clay content, clay type or cation exchange capacity. The experimental program included a basic mechanical-technological material characterization consisting of tensile, Charpy and Pellini tests. To determine the relevant loading rate for brittle fracture, instrumented C(T)25 fracture tests were performed at different loading rates at a temperature of -40°C. The relevant loading rates are 5x10^3 MPa√ms-1 and 5x10^4 MPa√ms-1. A series of dynamic fracture tests consisting of DC(T)9, C(T)25 and C(T)50 specimens were performed at MPA. BAM performed corresponding test series with SE(B)10 (pre-cracked Charpy), SE(B)25 and SE(B)140 specimens to cover the influence of specimen geometry. In total about 400 tests were performed during this project. The experimental program is complemented by extensive fractographic and metallographic studies using scanning electron microscopy and cross sectioning, as well as characterizations of the chemical composition of the material and of the morphology and distribution of the graphite particles. KJcd values were evaluated for all C(T)25 specimens and some C(T)50 and DC(T)9 specimens. First Master Curve analyses suggest that modifications on the Master Curve setup will be neccessary for instance changing the coefficient from 0.019 to 0.045. This modification requires further validation and is only one of many possible modifications. The SE(B) specimen results clearly show an inverse size effect. This does not correlate with the weakest link effect attributed to steels which dictates lower fracture toughness values for larger specimens. Due to the presence of graphite particles in the DCI material, it is currently assumed that these particles play a significant role in the failure behavior of DCI materials and the following fracture mechanism is proposed: “Specimen size-dependent arrest of local brittle fracures before global brittle failure by weakest link”. T1 - Methodological Prerequisites for Reliable Simulation Results in the Virtual Lab and Digital Twins N2 - Simulationen übernehmen zunehmend eine zentrale Rolle in sicherheitskritischen Entscheidungsprozessen, etwa im Bauwesen, bei digitalen Zwillingen oder in der prädiktiven Instandhaltung. Damit diese Entscheidungen auf zuverlässigen numerischen Modellen basieren können, müssen die zugrunde liegenden Teilmodelle eindeutig beschrieben, reproduzierbar und in der Community validiert sein. Dieses Manuskript skizziert die notwendigen Voraussetzungen für vertrauenswürdige, FAIR-konforme und entscheidungsfähige Simulationsprozesse. Zunächst wird die Notwendigkeit einer formalen, softwareunabhängigen Beschreibung mathematischer Modelle und numerischer Implementierungen diskutiert. Standards wie VMAP, Ontologien wie MathModDB sowie BIM- und STEP-Formate bieten erste Ansätze zur semantischen Modellbeschreibung und zur automatisierten Generierung simulationsfähiger Eingabedaten. Im zweiten Teil wird die Rolle experimenteller Daten für die Validierung von Modellen beleuchtet. Es wird gezeigt, dass hochwertige, strukturierte und maschinenlesbare Validierungsdatensätze essenziell sind, insbesondere für die Bewertung konstitutiver Modelle. Ein weiteres Kapitel widmet sich der Unsicherheitsquantifizierung. Neben klassischen Fehlermaßen werden aleatorische und epistemische Unsicherheiten sowie deren Einfluss auf die Modellbewertung behandelt. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit gilt der Bayes’schen Kalibrierung, der Trennung von Trainings und Testdaten und der Notwendigkeit, auch Begleitversuche aus Materialtests zu dokumentieren. Abschließend wird die Idee einer Benchmarking-Plattform vorgestellt, die auf reproduzierbaren Workflows, automatisierter Provenienzverfolgung und der Nutzung von Research Object (RO) Crates basiert. T1 - Validation of numerical simulation models for transport and storage casks using drop test results N2 - The safety assessment of new designs for transport and storage casks for radioactive materials is a challenging task accomplished using different methods such as prototype tests, model tests, calculations and analogy reflections. At BAM (Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing), the test procedures for the mechanical IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) test conditions often start with preliminary finite element (FE) calculations mostly with a small-scale cask model for verification of the proposed test cask instrumentation and test plan. On that basis the extensive test cask instrumentation is applied and checked. After that, a series of drop tests consisting of different test sequences is performed. Following the drop tests, numerical post-analyses are carried out. These analyses offer the possibility of a detailed calculation and assessment of stresses and strains in the entire test cask construction. The calculation results have to be carefully compared with the measurement data over the impact history to find out all relevant parameters for a realistic simulation of the impact scenario. The desired ideal boundary test conditions often cannot be met exactly during the drop tests. Therefore, the numerical post-analyses are carried out by using the real boundary conditions of the drop tests. The objective is to find a validated model, where the results of the numerical simulations satisfactorily meet the experimental results. Under test conditions according to the IAEA transport regulations, casks are usually equipped with impact limiters and dropped onto a so-called unyielding target. In general, it is difficult to verify a complex FE model by using results from only one drop test because of the complex impact process and the complex structure of such packages. After each drop test, numerical post-analyses should be carried out. Only if all drop tests were simulated successfully by using the same FE model under different test conditions, it is possible to obtain a validated numerical model for further investigations. In this case the results of the numerical simulations meet satisfactorily the experimental results. Alternatively to prototype drop tests, numerical methods can be applied, if they are suitable and sufficiently verified. In this context BAM (Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing) started the research project ConDrop to develop a reliable Finite Element (FE) model describing the mechanical behavior of a box shaped steel container during a drop test and to determine unfavorable scenarios within future safety assessment procedures of comparable steel sheet containers. In a first step, a FE model of a representative steel sheet container was developed. Flat bottom-side drop tests with the unloaded container from different heights onto an IAEA target were simulated. In order to verify the numerical calculations, two drop tests with an unloaded KONRAD Type V steel sheet container were carried out at the BAM drop test facility. Both drop tests (flat drop from heights 0.4 m and 5 m onto the unyielding IAEA target) had been documented by various extensive measurements: strain and deceleration measurement by means of strain gauges and accelerometers, high-speed video as well as optical 3D-measurements using the method of projected fringes in combination with close range photogrammetry. Usually, the evacuation is split into two main stages: pre-movement-phase and movement-phase. For both a large number of studies investigate different representations of behaviour and impacts. But the influence of impairments is usually not taken into account. In addition, most of the scientific researches focus the investigation of the movement phase. This publication presents a novel approach to score the need for assistance and to estimate the effect on evacuation performance. The proposed score considers characteristic impairments in three dimensions of behaviour: reception, perception and realisation. In an unannounced evacuation training in a sheltered workshop, the evacuation behaviour and pre-movement phase were analysed. The analysis indicates that the pre-movement time depends on the kind of impairment as well as on organisational boundaries. Despite the special needs for assistance, the evacuation process in a sheltered workshop is quite similar to other sub-populations. T2 - 5. The tanks were installed in the space normally reserved for the spare tyre, in the car boot. No safety device was installed on the tank, in order to force critical failure of the cylinder. Two of the cars were equipped with a tank filled with liquefied propane to a level of 20 % (5.3 kg), the third one was filled completely (25.5 kg). The partially filled tanks failed critically within a time period of more than 20 min after the initiation of the fire. The fully-filled tank did not rupture; the propane was released continuously through a small leak that appeared during the fire. Comprehensive equipment was used to procure measurement data, enabling an analysis of potential consequences and hazards to humans and infrastructure within the vehicle surroundings. The inner status of the tank (pressure, temperature of the liquid phase and the steel casing), the development of the fire (temperature inside and around the vehicle) and the pressure induced in the near-field in case of tank rupture were recorded. The results were analysed in detail and compared against the data gained in tests involving sole, but identical LPG tanks. Another field of research is fire-safety of escape and rescue routes, because in case of fire, smoke in staircases can be a serious problem. In 2005, 8 people died in Berlin during a staircase fire which was caused by arson. A stroller had been ignited and the resulting smoke filled the staircase quickly. The wooden staircase also was involved in the fire. Several inhabitants tried to leave their flats via the staircase and were trapped. For such studies, supermartensitic stainless steels (SMSS) have exemplarily been selected. These materials have been used for offshore and marine constructions for about two decades now. They present a versatility of improved properties such as high strength to thickness ratio, good weldability and good corrosion resistance. However, as shown by respective failure cases, SMSS welds might become prone to hydrogen assisted cracking and the degradation phenomena are more easily to investigate due to the nearly homogeneous martensitic microstructure than in other materials. Generally, it has to be distinguished between cracking that occurs during or shortly after fabrication welding, or during subsequent operation of SMSS components. In order to achieve crack avoidance during fabrication and service, conclusive test sequences have to be applied, ranging from field tests at real components and full scale tests investigating the materials behavior under real service conditions to basic and small scale tests, such as tensile and corrosion tests, oriented more towards a materials ranking. Considerable testing of SMSS welds has been carried out and the present paper particularly summarizes spotlights on 1:1 scale component testing of welded tubulars, slow strain rate testing and basic tests oriented to elucidate the hydrogen behavior and degradation in SMSS weld microstructures. Also, permeation tests, hydrogen dependent degradation of mechanical properties and thermal desorption spectroscopy are adressed. Die Feuerwehr Frankfurt hat eine Sammlung von Bränden, bei denen WDVS beteiligt waren, initiiert. Wertet man diese Sammlung hinsichtlich der Brandentstehung aus, fällt auf, dass von den insgesamt 57 Bränden 79 % (45 Brände) vor der Fassade begannen. 25 dieser 45 Brände wurden durch brennenden Müll oder Müllcontainer ausgelöst. Die meisten der gesammelten Brände (50) waren in den letzten fünf Jahren (2010 - 2014). Auf Grund dieser Erkenntnisse wurden an der BAM Müilcontainer (aus Plastik) hinsichtlich ihrer Entflammbarkeit und Wärmefreisetzung untersucht. Außerdem wurden im Auftrag der BMK Müllcontainer hinsichtlich ihrer Wärmefreisetzung und Brandentwicklung im Großversuch an der MFPA Leipzig untersucht. Mit Hilfe dieser Voruntersuchungen wurde eine Brandquelle identifiziert, die Zündquellen wie einen brennenden, Müllcontainer oder kleinere Ansammlungen von Sperrmüll repräsentiert: Es wurde eine 200 kg Holzkrippe gewählt, da die Holzkrippe bessere Ergebnisse hinsichtlich der Reproduzierbarkeit der Ergebnisse darstellt als z.B. ein Müllcontainer. Mit dieser Zündquelle wurden Großversuche an der MFPA Leipzig mit einem zugelassenen WDVS durchgeführt. Das WDVS zeigte unter diesen Prüfbedingungen ein nicht akzeptables Brandverhalten. Die folgenden zwei Versuche wurden mit Ertüchtigungsmaßnahmen durchgeführt, die eine signifikante Verbesserung des Brandverhaltens brachten. Zusätzlich wurde an der BAM eine Serie von Brandversuchen im Kieinmaßstab in der Single Burning Item (SBI) Prüfeinrichtung durchgeführt. Dabei wurde die auf das WDVS wirkende Wärmefreisetzungsrate variiert und der Einfluss von Grad und Größe von Beschädigungen der Putzschicht hinsichtlich des Brandverhaltens untersucht. Deutliche Unterschiede im Brandverhalten konnten sowohl quantitativ als auch qualitativ nachgewiesen werden. T1 - Challenges for fire safety in etic systems with polystyrene insulation N2 - Several fires involving external thermal insulating (ETIC) systems with polystyrene in Germany started an extensive discussion about fire safety of such systems. The Frankfurt fire service started to collect reports about real fire cases which involved ETICS with polystyrene two years ago. This collection shows that especially fires, which started in front of the buildings led to more severe fires of the facades than fires inside the buildings. In several fires the ignition sources were burning waste containers. Three of the real cases are discussed in more detail: a serious fire in Frankfurt on a building site and two fires of apartment buildings, which developed quite differently. Additionally the plastic waste containers, which started several fires are investigated regarding ignitability and heat release rates. The investigation shows that plastic waste containers are very effective as ignition source and that the usual placement directly in front of combustible facades can be a problem for fire safety. Moving these containers and unintentional contact with the facade can lead to damage of the facade coating. These damages were investigated qualitatively and quantitative on a wide collection of buildings. After classifying the damage intermediate scale tests were performed in a modified Single Burning Item (SBI) Test. The damage of the coating was varied as well as the power of the sand bed burner of the SBI apparatus. The damage significantly influenced the fire development on the specimen. In some tests the damaged rendering of the ETIC system collapsed and resulted in a sudden fire growth: after the collapse of the rendering the whole specimen was suddenly on fire. Several effects, which could be seen in the intermediate scale tests correspond to observations which were made in the real cases. As a consequence of the investigations challenges and possible measures to enhance fire safety of ETIC systems are discussed. For low stresses, the contribution to cavity growth by dislocation creep of the suirounding material can be neglected. However, grain boundaiy diffitsion is mainly driven by the local normal stiess acting on the grain boundaiy. Under creep conditions, even under a constant extemal load, an individual grain boundaiy generally experiences a time-varying normal stress, due to stress redistributions within the polycrystalline stiuctuie. Indeed, a constrained cavitating grain boundaiy is relieved, since matter is transported to and deposited in the grain boundaiy plane, which causes the adjoining giains to drill apart. A Simulation proceduie based on the use of complex holomoiphic fiinctions for solving the diffiision problem has been used to investigate multiple cavity growth on a grain boundaiy subjected to a constant normal stress. A simplified model has been developed to describe the cavitation behaviour observed in the simulations. Finally, the analysis of cavitation simulations with time-vaiying nomial stresses, including the cases with veiy low or negative stresses, has been used to extend the simplified cavitation model to more general normal stiess time profiles. Dabei ist die hydrothermale Erhärtung in einem Autoklav bei 200 °C und 1.6 MPa in gesättigter Wasserdampfatmosphäre eine Alternative mit geringerem Energieverbrauch im Vergleich zur thermischen Herstellung von Leichtgranulaten aus mineralischen Abfällen (Blähgranulate) oder Tonen und Schiefer (kommerzieller Blähton bzw. However, most air-coupled testing scenarios have the challenge of low signals and a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) several orders of magnitude lower than with couplant-assisted tech-niques. Since this challenge of small SNR also exists in radar technology, the pulse compression used there was adapted and applied to the physical conditions of air-coupled ultrasonic testing. This paper presents ultrasonic transmission measurements on a carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer plate using two experimental setups: 1) a thermoacoustic transmitter and an optical microphone and 2) a pair of ferroe-lectret transducers as transmitter and receiver. Thermoacoustic transmitters convert electrical energy to heat, which causes the air to expand thus producing acoustic waves. The optical microphone is based on a Fabry-Perot interferometer. Ferroelectrets are charged cellular polymers, having piezoelectric proper-ties and excellent acoustic matching to air. Both thermoacoustic transmitters and ferroelectrets are non-linear regarding the relationship between the excited sound pressure and the excitation voltage. Due to these physical boundary conditions, unipolar coding was used to modulate the excitation signals. Vari-ous codes were tested, and parameters of the excitation pulses were varied to find the optimal combina-tion for each experimental setup. In general, an amplification at low frequencies, an amplification for the floor resonances, and a reduction for higher frequencies can be observed. Most of the measurement examples show a flexible behaviour along the height of the buildings. The prediction of building vibration consists typically of three steps. At first, the dynamic stiffness of the foundation and secondly the kinematic soil-structure interaction has to be calculated for example by the combined finite-element boundary-element meth-od. The stiffness of the foundation reduces the incoming waves (the kinematic interaction). Finally, the inertial interaction of the building with the foundation soil is calculated by the conventional finite ele-ment method where the dynamic foundation stiffness from the first step is added at the bottom of the building. The building on the compliant soil has a fundamental vertical resonance usually below 10 Hz. A parametrical variation clearly shows the influence of the elasticity of the building on this reso-nance frequency and amplitude. Moreover for column-type office buildings, the low-frequency floor resonances can further reduce this fundamental frequency. A 1-dimensional model has been estab-lished which can well approximate the behaviour of the 3-dimensional building models. It is used to demonstrate the effect of a base isolation with soft elements at the foundation. A rigid building model clearly over-estimates the isolation effect, which is smaller for a model with flexible walls, columns and floors. An even simpler model of an infinitely high building is suggested for the mitigation effect, and the resonance frequency of the rigid building should be replaced by a better performance indica-tor, which is based on the impedance ratio of the isolation and the wall and which can be also ex-pressed as a characteristic frequency. Es wurden unterschiedliche Vorgehensweisen zur Kurvenanpassung und Festlegung von Übergangstemperaturen wie auch der Hoch- bzw. Tieflagenarbeit untersucht. Die Ergebnisse unterstreichen unter anderem, dass die in festgelegte Vorgehensweise, nach der Untermaßprobenergebnisse proportional auf Normprobenmaße zu skalieren sind, nicht nur zu falschen, sondern auch nicht-konservativen Kerbschlagarbeitswerten führen kann. Therefore, the development of an inline sensing system capable of real-time monitoring and adjustment of process parameters is necessary to overcome these challenges. Building upon an existing inline sensing system developed by BAM, which currently monitors material properties during printing and the geometry of the print post-extrusion, this study extends its capabilities to post-extrusion monitoring using embedded piezoelectric (PZT) sensors. These PZT sensors provide localized measurements of material changes through electrical impedance (EI) measurements without disrupting the printing process. By embedding these sensors in 3D printed structures, continuous monitoring is achieved from layer deposition through 1-day of hydration. To achieve this, initially, PZT sensors were developed with multiple layers of protective coatings. Two different 3D printed mixtures, each with different hydration behaviors, were utilized, and PZT sensors were strategically placed between printed layers to maintain their integrity. EI measurements were collected continuously from printing through 1 day of hydration. Analysis of amplitude and frequency changes in the EI response spectrum provided insights into material behavior post-printing. The study highlights how continuous monitoring of frequency and conductance can track structural builtup and property development of the material. Rapid changes in conductance measurements, immediately post-printing indicate swift structural built-up, while key hydration phases are reflected in frequency measurements. Generated frost point temperature in the gas ranged from -30 °C to -60 °C and were measured by coulometric sensors and in addition by a calibrated dew point hygrometer. The gas temperatures, which were measured by a calibrated Pt100 sensor, were set to -20 °C, 0 °C, 23 °C, 40 °C, 50 °C, and 60 °C during the experiments. Empiric nonlinear functions were calculated between the generated humidity and the sensor signals. In comparison to the measured signals at 23 °C, the sensor signals were lower at the other gas temperatures. The measurements at 60 °C showed indistinct results due to a great signal noise. The response behavior of the sensors was similar at 23 °C, 40 °C and 50 °C. In contrast to that, the sensors reacted slowly at a gas temperature of -20 °C and 0 °C. In summary, with coulometric sensors it was possible to measure continuously trace humidity with an expanded uncertainty below 2 K. Weiter wurden Druckentlastungsversuche mit einer kreisrunden Entlastungsfläche von 0,011 m² und einer Druckentlastungsfolie mit einem statischen Ansprechdruck von 1,94 bar durchgeführt. Hierbei wurden Gemische mit Methankonzentrationen von 5,9 Vol-% bis 14,3 Vol-% untersucht. One specimen of 150 l made of alkali-activated material, which was found innovative and suitable for sealing constructions based on preliminary laboratory studies, and, for comparison purpose, another one made of salt concrete, are manufactured with an integrated multi-sensory setup for quality assurance and long-term-monitoring. The specimens were left in their cast form and additionally thermally insulated to simulate the situation in the repository. The multi-sensory concept comprises RFID technology embedded in the specimens suppling material temperature and moisture measurements, integrated fibre optic sensing allowing strain measurement and acoustic emission testing for monitoring possible crack formation. Overall, the suitability and the functionality of the sensors embedded into and attached to strongly alkaline (pH > 13 for the AAM) and salt corrosive (NaCl) environment was proven for the first 672 h. First temperature measurement based on RFID succeeded after 626 h for the alkali-activated material and after 192 h for the conventional salt concrete. Strain measurement based on distributed fibre optic sensing turned out the alkali-activated material with > 1 mm m-1 undergoing approximately twice the compression strain as the salt concrete with strains < 0.5 mm m-1. In technical applications, the challenge is to keep these energy carriers cold for a long time. This is achieved in the road transport sector and also stationary applications by thermal super insulations (TSI) which based on double-walled tanks with vacuum and multilayer insulation (MLI) in the interspace. This study focuses on the behaviour of widely used combustible MLI in a fire scenario, at vacuum and atmospheric pressure conditions. The former corresponds to the typical design condition and the latter to the condition after an outer hull rapture of a tank. Furthermore, two fire scenarios were taken into account: a standard-oriented approach and a hydrocarbon fire-oriented approach. For the study, a test rig was applied that allows testing of TSI at industrial conditions and subsequent analysis of TSI samples. The test rig allows thermal loading and performance analysis of TSI samples at the same time. Comparing the tests, the samples degraded differently. However, no sudden failure of the entire MLI was observed in any test. These results are relevant for the evaluation of incidents with tanks for the storage of cryogenic fluids and can thus contribute to the improvement of TSI and the development of emergency measures for the protection of persons and infrastructures. TSI has proven itself in various applications over a long time, but not in the land transport sector, where accidents involving collisions, fires, and their combination are to be expected. The focus of this study is to investigate the behavior of different types of TSI when exposed to a heat source that represents a fire. Therefore, a High-Temperature Thermal Vacuum Chamber (HTTVC) was used that allows the thermal loading of thermal insulation material in a vacuum and measuring the heat flow through the TSI in parallel. Within this study, 5 samples were tested regarding 3 different types of MLI, rock wool, and perlites. The thermal exposure caused different effects on the samples. In practice, this can be connected to the rapid release of flammable gases as well as a Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapour Explosion (BLEVE). T1 - Ignition behavior of methane-oxygen mixtures at elevated conditions N2 - Self-ignition behavior of mixtures of methane and oxygen was investigated in a temperature range from 600 to 800°C. Variations of mixture composition, inert gas content, temperature and filling rate of the ignition autoclave were carried out in order to establish process boundaries for high temperature partial oxidation processes. The tests show that considerably high methane contents are needed to avoid an ignition. Heating-up tests show that ignition is possible at surprisingly low temperatures. This can be attributed to pre-ignition reactions that produce more instable intermediates. Application of an infrared camera for mapping the thermal radiation after excitation with a diode laser equipped with an optical scanner allows us to examine a surface containing cracks in an entirely non-destructive, contactless and fast way, without even moving the camera. We developed an efficient and robust algorithm that can be applied directly to the recorded thermal sequences, and that derives a single image containing all crack signatures. For this crack detection technique, no specific synchronisation between laser and camera is required. Hence, our approach is suitable for an upgrade of existing thermographic systems. The feasibility of the proposed procedure is proven by testing an artificial test sample and a piece of rail that comprises roll contact fatigue cracks and by comparing the results with magnetic particle testing. T1 - Structure-integrated fibre-optic strain wave sensor for pile testing and monitoring of reinforced concrete piles N2 - Reinforced concrete piles are used when structures are constructed on soft ground, because it is necessary to transfer the loads into deeper strata with a sufficient bearing capacity. Usually, static and dynamic pile tests are carried out in order to determine the pile’s behaviour and possible damages. The dynamic measurements can show the bearing behaviour and the structural integrity by using the theory of one-dimensional wave propagation. Commonly, the sensors are installed on the top of the pile head or embedded near the pile head. With the purpose of receiving more precise information about the pile features, now, a string of sensors is embedded at different levels of the pile. A fibre optic strain wave sensor has already been developed by Schallert. The sensor is based on the principle of the extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometer and was already tested in laboratory and full-scale field tests with precast driven piles. It was possible to detect the introduced deformation caused by the static loading and the dilatational wave during dynamic low-strain as well as high-strain loading. Although the full-scale tests were successful, the high demands on the economy of the sensor required the optimisation of the sensor design. After laboratory tests with the optimised sensor, a cast-in-situ bored pile has been built at the BAM Test Site Technical Safety in Horstwalde, South of Berlin. In order to enable the comparison of the signals, additional fibre Bragg grating sensors, temperature sensors and resistance strain gauge sensors are embedded into the pile. In this paper, the optimised sensor and the setup of the cast-in-situ bored pile along with results of the conducted pile tests are shown together with an outlook on further field-tests in progress. Hydrogen in its free form can be stored and transported either as a gas or a liquid. Due to gaseous hydrogen's comparatively low energy density, liquefied hydrogen (LH 2) is often preferred, especially with regard to long-distance transportation and storage in bulk. A notable challenge associated with LH2 is the inherent requirement to preserve it at a low temperature of -253°C. Consequently, the utilisation of thermally insulated tanks is necessary to minimise LH 2 evaporation. There is a lack of literature on the environmental impacts of insulation materials and concepts for cryogenic storage tank applications in the hydrogen supply chain. Hence, this study investigates a novel concept, namely vacuum insulation panels (VIPs), focusing on their core materials, with a view to assessing their environmental sustainability and circularity. A cradle-to-grave life cycle assessment (LCA) model is employed to investigate six distinct VIP core materials, namely, silica aerogel, rigid polyurethane foam, expanded perlite, glass fibre, fumed silica, and glass bubbles (hollow glass microspheres), with a special focus on the latter. The LCA results show that polyurethane foam and silica aerogel rank low in environmental performance, making them less suitable as primary choice. Expanded perlite is the most environmentally friendly material option, followed by glass fibre, glass bubbles, and fumed silica. Improvements to the environmental impact of glass bubbles can be achieved via the implementation of closed-loop recycling in their life cycle. T1 - Experimental investigation of large-scale hydrogen diffusion jet flames N2 - Hydrogen is a promising alternative to natural gas in industrial energy applications which would serve the goal of limiting global warming. However, wide application of hydrogen requires specific safety considerations taking into account that hydrogen is stored and transported under much higher pressure than natural gas. Thus, one scenario to be considered for hazard assessment is a sudden release of hydrogen from a leakage or safety valve and its subsequent ignition. For hydrocarbon flames, various jet flame models are available. However, hydrogen flames significantly differ from hydrocarbon flames in their combustion behavior, so that the applicability of these models to hydrogen has to be investigated. For that purpose, reals scale tests were carried out at the BAM Test Site Technical Safety. In addition, hydrocarbon jet flames (methane) were investigated. In these tests, the flame geometry and the thermal heat radiation were investigated for a release angle of 90°, for different release pressures (up to 220 bar) and mass flows (up to 0.175 kg/s). While existing heat radiation data from the literature are mostly based on unsteady outflow conditions and/or releases in still air, the experiments presented here are focused on ensuring a constant mass flow over the release duration under realistic free field conditions (with wind influence). This allows a better comparability with the stationary jet flame models and assessment of wind influence on model predictions. A number of parameters such as the surface emissive power of the jet flame and the radiant heat fraction were determined. A detailed comparison of the obtained experimental results with literature radiation models was performed. Good agreement between experimental and literature data was found for hydrogen whereas significant differences were identified for methane. Based on the investigations, empirical equations for modelling jet flames could be derived. In regard to Containment capability a transport cask has to be designed to restrict the release of radioactive content to the required limits of 10'6 A2 per hour under NCT and A2 per week for ACT. Two barriers, which should avoid the release of fuel particles and fission products to the environment, are discussed in this paper: fuel rod claddings and the cask sealing System composed of cask body as well as of bolted lids and metallic seals. Both barriers can be affected by transport conditions. Vibrations and impact forces can increase the fraction of rods undergoing cladding breaches and can also lead to deformations or displacements of cask components involving an unloading or a movement of the lids or the seals. The above mentioned effects have to be properly considered in the safety analysis carried out by the applicant. The assumptions and results of the activity release calculations are verified by BAM Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing. In diesen Großversuchen werden Parameter wie Tragfähigkeitsminderung infolge zyklischer Lasten im Druck- und Schwellbereich, sowie die Zunahme von Tragfähigkeiten durch sogenannte Anwachseffekte untersucht. Durch die zyklischen Belastungen werden insbesondere als unsicher anzunehmende Wertepaare in den derzeit verwendeten Interaktionsdiagrammen untersucht, wobei ein Hauptaugenmerk aber nicht nur auf dem Versagen des Pfahls, sondern auch auf der Ermittlung der Resttragfähigkeit nach definierten Zyklenzahlen liegt. Ein weiteres Ziel ist, die sich am Pfahlmantel in Abhängigkeit der oben genannten Parameter ergebenden Tragfähigkeiten durch numerische Berechnungen und durch Laborversuche zu erklären und ein existierendes Modell zur Ermittlung der Tragfähigkeit unter zyklischer Belastung auf der Grundlage aktueller Messdaten am Pfahl zu validieren und zu kalibrieren. Eine besondere Rolle spielt dabei die Wiederverwertung von Altbeton. Ein Grund hierfür ist der deutliche Anstieg des seit Mitte des letzten Jahrhunderts im Bauwesen verbrauchten Betons und die damit verbundene – zeitlich versetzte – Zunahme des Altbetonanteils im Bauschutt. Darüber hinaus ist das Wertstoffpotential von Altbeton im Vergleich zu anderen Abbruchmaterialien besonders groß, denn Altbeton kann unter bestimmten Bedingungen sehr hochwertig auch als rezyklierte Gesteinskörnung wieder in der Betonherstellung eingesetzt werden. Damit kann ein Kreislauf im Sinne eines Closed-loop-Recycling verwirklicht und Altbeton damit hochwertig wiederverwertet werden. A1 - Otremba, Frank T1 - Insulation Materials Used in Tanks for the Storage of Cryogenic Fluids in Fire Scenarios N2 - The importance of tanks for storing cryogenic fluids in the energy industry is increasing because of ongoing political conflicts and the implementation of more environmentally friendly energy sources. Key representatives for the application of cryogenic tanks are natural gas in the form of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and hydrogen, e. g. in the form of Liquefied Hydrogen (LH2), for which significantly higher transport capacities can be achieved with the same transport volume using cryogenic storages than with storages based solely on overpressure. What applies to all cryogenic transported fluids in common is their condition that must be maintained. Hence heat flows into the preserved fluid must be minimized. Thermal super Insulations (TSI) based on e. g. multilayer insulations (MLI), perlites, and vacuum are utilized for this purpose and have already proven themselves in similar applications. However, for the use of tanks for cryogenic fluids in the transport sector, there is insufficient knowledge regarding the course and consequences of incidents, which is due to the still short period of use and the few documented incidents, hence few investigations carried out in this field. Typical scenarios in the transport sector represent car accidents with collisions, fires, and their combination, which are associated with extraordinary loads on the tank. The focus of this study is to investigate the behavior of TSI as a result of their thermal exposure to a heat source representing a fire. It is worth mentioning that this could lead to an increase of the heat flux into a tank by several orders of magnitude, and to permanent damage of the TSI, ultimately rapid release of flammable gas as well as a Boiling Liquide Expanding Vapour Explosion (BLEVE). For this purpose, a high temperature thermal vacuum chamber (HTTVC) has been developed that allows thermal loading of MLI or perlites in a vacuum and simultaneous measurement of heat flow through this TSI. The HTTVC is designed to represent realistic insulation conditions and to withstand thermal loads from typical design fires. The HTTVC was applied to investigate TSI based on MLI and vacuum. It is shown that the thermal stress caused permanent damage to the TSI, with shrinkage, phase change, pyrolysis, and condensation being significant damage mechanisms. The results are relevant for the evaluation of accident scenarios and can thus contribute to the improvement of TSI and the development of emergency measures for the protection of persons and infrastructures. Consumption of hydrogen as a fuel meets several restrictions such as its low volumetric energy density in gas phase. To tackle this problem, storage as well as transportation in liquid phase is recommended. To be able to handle this component in liquid phase, an efficient thermal insulation e.g., MLI insulation is required. Some studies have been revealed vulnerability of this type of insulation against high heat flux, for instance a fire accident. Some investigations have been depicted the importance of consideration of the MLI thermal degradation in terms of its reflective layer. However, limited number of studies have been focused on the thermal degradation of spacer material and its effect on the overall heat flux. In this study, through systematic experimental measurements, the effect of thermal loads on glass fleece, glass paper as well as polyester spacers are investigated. The results are reported in various temperature and heat flux profiles. Interpreting the temperature profiles revealed as the number of spacers in the medium increases, the peak temperature detectable by the temperature sensor on the measurement plate decreases. Moreover, the contribution of each individual spacer in all cases regarding the experimental temperature range is assessed to be around 8%. This value may increase to around 50% for glass paper and polyester spacers, and to around 25% for glass fleece spacers as the number of spacer layers increases up to six layers. To utilize the outcomes of the experiment later and integrate the results into numerical and CFD simulations, a model is proposed for the mentioned experimental temperature range up to 300°C to predict a heat flux attenuation factor. The model proposes a fitting factor that can reproduce the least square fitted line to the experimental data. T1 - A Framework for Transforming Process Control System Data from a Hydrogen Fueling Station into HyCReD Data N2 - Reliability data for hydrogen infrastructure components is essential for developing Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) for these technologies, which in turn is necessary for a safer deployment and expansion of the hydrogen market. However, there is currently a lack of hydrogen component reliability data available for these systems, thus limiting the usefulness of insights obtained from these QRA. The Hydrogen Component Reliability Database (HyCReD) has been proposed as a tool for reliability data collection and as a source for future QRAs. In this paper, we develop a digital tool that automatically processes data coming from Process Control System (PCS) in a hydrogen fueling station, detects the relevant failure events for hydrogen systems during its operation, and then logs the event information into HyCReD. To build this tool, we first categorized the station components in hydrogen service, their specific failure modes, and the specific failure mechanisms that are relevant to a QRA. Then, we identified the data available in the station PCS and the methods available for diagnosing the relevant failure events. The resulting tool is divided into three steps: (1) PCS data collection through an API, (2) data analysis for the detection and diagnosis of new failure events, and (3) logging that event into HyCReD. Finally, we discuss the potential for expanding the detection and diagnosis to more complex failure modes present in a hydrogen fueling station. This digital tool is set for implementation and validation on an experimental hydrogen fueling site. Diese Sensoren werden in der Industrie verwendet, um die Spurenfeuchte in unterschiedlichen Gasen zu messen. Normalerweise erfolgt eine Beschichtung der Sensoren mit Phosphorpentoxid und dessen Hydrolyseprodukte. In dieser Arbeit wurde stattdessen eine hygroskopische ionische Flüssigkeit benutzt. Die generierte Gasfeuchte für die Untersuchungen betrug bezogen auf die Frostpunkttemperatur -80 °C bis -30 °C, was gleichbedeutend mit einem Wasserdampf-Stoffmengenanteil von 0,5 μmol·mol-1 bis 376 μmol·mol-1 ist. Zusätzlich zu der Messung mit coulometrischen Sensoren erfolgte eine Referenzmessung der Gasfeuchte mittels eines Taupunkthygrometers. Erste Ergebnisse haben gezeigt, dass es möglich ist mit dieser Art der Beschichtung unterschiedliche Gasfeuchten zu messen. T1 - Combining of TD-GC-MS and home developed electronic nose for road traffic air monitoring N2 - In this work, we demonstrate the ability of an electronic nose system based on an array of six-semiconductor gas sensors for outdoor air quality monitoring over a day at a traffic road in downtown of Meknes city (Morocco). The response of the sensor array reaches its maximum in the evening of the investigated day which may due to high vehicular traffic or/and human habits resulting in elevated concentrations of pollutants. Dataset treatment by Principal Component Analysis and Discriminant Function Analysis shows a good discrimination between samples collected at different times of the day. Moreover, Support Vector Machines were used and reached a classification success rate of 97.5 %. Thermal Desorption-Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (TD-GC-MS) technique was used to validate the developed e-nose system by identifying the composition of the analyzed air samples. The discrimination obtained by e-nose system was in good agreement with the TD-GC-MS results. This study demonstrates the usefulness of TD-GC-MS and e-nose, providing high accuracy in discriminating outdoor air samples collected at different times. This demonstrates the potential of using the e-nose as a rapid, easy to use and inexpensive environmental monitoring system. Humidified gas flow at adjusted gas pressure was split into two flows, one passed a coulometric sensor and the other one passed a reference hygrometer after decompression. Both signals were recorded and then compared after calculation of resulting frost point temperature. Calculation is based on a calibration function obtained at ambient pressure. Comparison showed that an increasing pressure resulted in a higher derivation between sensor signal (calculated frost point temperature) and reference frost point temperature. At an absolute pressure of 2 bar the differences were minor in consideration of the uncertainty, however at 15 bar the differences were 6.77 K. Nevertheless, it was possible to measure the gas humidity at higher pressure with coulometric trace humidity sensors. For this purpose, the potentials of different gypsum wastes are investigated in the study “GipsRec 2.0”, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Germany). On the one hand, the project worked on a new processing technology for gypsum fiberboards (GFB). While the recycling of gypsum plasterboards has already been carried out on an industrial scale for several years, the recycling of gypsum fiberboards (GFB) has proven to be challenging. Gypsum fiberboards from demolition sites and offcuts from GFB production were used for these investigations. The tests were conducted on a technical scale. Furthermore, various synthetic gypsums are being investigated with regard to their suitability for gypsum production. The analyses are carried out on production residues. In this project, a promising process for gypsum fiberboard recycling could be developed, as well as other waste gypsums are investigated and evaluated with regard to their potential as secondary raw material. In addition, selected process routes are assessed for their environmental impact using a life cycle assessment (LCA) approach. As an example of such components the bolted trunnion system of heavy packages are analysed in this paper. According to the German guideline BAM-GGR 012 created by the BAM Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing for analysis and assessment of bolted lid and trunnion Systems, the finite element (FE) method is to be used preferably in the analysis of such kind of structures to obtain more accurate and detailed Information about their stressing. The FE model of a trunnion System should include the trunnion itself, the bolts and an appropriate part of the packaging wall with necessary contact conditions on all interfaces between these components. The use of solid finite elements, which is generally recommended in the BAM-GGR 012 guideline, leads to local stress and strain fields as a result of the calculation. The modelling strategy, e.g. the way of modelling interaction between the components of the trunnion System, has an essential impact on these local values. The effect of different assumptions in a FE model is demonstrated in this paper using the calculation results for a reference trunnion System. The approaches for preparation and Interpretation of results in connection with local or nominal assessment criteria are discussed as well. This aim is achieved by application of high strength structural steels with yield strengths of up to 1300 MPa. The plate thickness can be reduced and consequently the service load is increased. High strength structural steels are quenched and tempered and/or even thermo-mechanically processed. Their superior properties are due to precipitations formed by micro alloying elements finely dispersed in a martensitic matrix. The aim of this study was to observe the influence of hydrogen in the microstructure of high strength structural steel with the yield strength of 1300 MPa by using diffraction methods. Energy dispersive X-ray diffraction (EDXRD) available at the EDDI beam line of the HZB in Berlin Germany was utilized to compare the stress-strain behavior of samples exhibiting varying amounts of hydrogen during tensile loading.
