Especially, the application on solid steel rods in tension is currently excluded from the approval. The paper explains the actual state of the art of the application of reactive fire protection systems applied to steel structures. Physical and technical background information are provided. Furthermore, the latest scientific results of an on-going research project funded by the German National Institute of Building Technology (DIBt) and conducted by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) will be described. Die in entsprechenden Laserschutzbrillen verwendeten Laserschutzfilter müssen eine große spektrale Absorptionsbandbreite aufweisen und dürfen nicht aufschalten, d.h. keine induzierte Transmission zeigen. Im Vortrag soll dargestellt werden, dass Laserschutzfilter auf Glasbasis, die über ein breites Absorptionsspektrum verfügen, einen ausreichenden Schutz gegenüber fs-Laserstrahlung bieten, wohingegen Laserschutzfilter auf Polymerbasis eine induzierte spektrale Transmission bei steigender Energiedichte aufweisen können, was zu einem drastischen Verlust der Schutzfunktion führt. This report analyzes the ability of an alkyne-functionalized polypeptoid, poly(N-propargyl glycine), to crosslink upon heating. The crosslinking process is analyzed by thermal analysis (differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis), Fourier-transform infrared, electron paramagnetic resonance, and solid-state NMR spectroscopy. While a precise mechanism cannot be confidently assigned, it is clear that the reaction proceeds by a radical mechanism that exclusively involves the alkyne functionality, which, upon crosslinking, yields alkene and aromatic products. T1 - Continuously tuneable liquid crystal based stripline phase shifter realised in LTCC technology N2 - This work presents the design, fabrication and measurements of a low temperature cofired ceramic (LTCC) integrated liquid crystal (LC) phase shifter. The effective permittivity of the phase shifter and therefore its differential phase shift can be tuned continuously by orienting the LC directors with electric fields. The phase-shift demonstrator is designed for Ka-band frequencies around 30 GHz and represents a stripline filled with LC, embedded inside an LTCC multilayer structure, which provides a space-qualified and hermetically-sealed LC cavity within an RF-capable material system. The total length of the device is 37 mm while the phase shifting LC section has a length of 14.6 mm. At 30 GHz it exhibits a differential phase shift of 60° with an insertion loss around 6 dB, resulting in a figure of merit around 10°/dB. An advantage is that the insertion loss is nearly independent of the tuning state of the LC. The response time of the phase shifter, depending on the desired LC orientation, is between 62 ms and 37 s. The TMF behaviour of materials is often desired to be simulated in models which describe the cyclic stress-strain behaviour, the fatigue life and the cyclic crack growth behaviour. T1 - Intelligente Bauwerke - Prototyp zur Ermittlung der Schadens- und Zustandsentwicklung für Elemente des Brückenmodells N2 - Dieser Bericht beschreibt ein Systemmodell für eine integrale Ermittlung und Prognose der Schadens- und Zustandsentwicklung der Elemente eines Brückensystems unter Berücksichtigung von Ergebnissen aus Inspektionen und Überwachung. Das Systemmodell wurde anhand eines ausgesuchten Spannbetonüberbaus in einzelliger Kastenbauweise entwickelt. Es besteht aus zwei integralen Teilmodellen: ein Modell zur Beschreibung des Systemschädigungszustandes und ein Modell zur Beschreibung der Standsicherheit. Für die Modellierung des stochastischen Systemschädigungszustandes eines Brückensystems werden dynamische Bayes'sche Netze (DBN) vorgeschlagen. Dieser Ansatz ermöglicht es, alle relevanten Schädigungsprozesse und deren stochastische Abhängigkeiten zu berücksichtigen. Ein wesentlicher Vorteil dieses Ansatzes ist es, dass DBN ideal dafür geeignet sind, Bayes'sche Aktualisierungen auf Grundlage von Informationen aus Inspektionen und Überwachungsmaßnahme auf eine effiziente und robuste Art und Weise durchzuführen. Der DBN-Ansatz ist deshalb für die Entwicklung von Software für das Erhaltungsmanagement von alternden Brückenbauwerken, die vom Benutzer keine vertieften Kenntnisse der Zuverlässigkeitstheorie verlangt, ideal geeignet. Für die Modellierung der Standsicherheit eines alternden Kastenträgers wird vereinfachend Biegeversagen des globalen Längssystems betrachtet. Zur Berechnung der maximalen Traglast eines Kastenträgers infolge des Systemschädigungszustandes wird ein plastisch-plastisches Verfahren eingesetzt, wobei die Beanspruchungen mittels der Fließgelenktheorie unter Ausnutzung der plastischen Beanspruchbarkeit der Querschnitte des Kastenträgers ermittelt werden. Ein Kastenträger versagt, wenn sich durch die Ausbildung einer ausreichend großen Anzahl von Fließgelenken eine kinematische Kette ausbildet. Dieser Modellierungsansatz berücksichtigt Redundanzen, die sich aus der plastischen Beanspruchbarkeit der Querschnitte und der statischen Unbestimmtheit eines Kastenträgers ergeben. Zum Nachweis der praktischen Einsetzbarkeit des entwickelten Systemmodells wurde ein Software-Prototyp entwickelt, der eine intuitiv benutzbare graphische Benutzeroberfläche (Front-End) mit einem Berechnungskern (Back-End) koppelt. Die aktuelle Version des Software-Prototyps implementiert ein Modell der chloridinduzierten Bewehrungskorrosion und ein Tragwerksmodell, welches das Verfahrens der stetigen Laststeigerung zur Bestimmung der maximalen Traglast des Kastenträgers auf der Grundlage eines Finite-Elemente-Modells umsetzt. Zur Durchführung von Bayes'schen Aktualisierungen des Systemschädigungszustandes auf der Grundlage des DBN-Modells implementiert der Prototyp den Likelihood-Weighting-Algorithmus. Die entwickelte Architektur des Prototyps ermöglicht eine Erweiterung der Software um weitere Schädigungsprozesse. T1 - An internal charge transfer-dependent solvent effect in V-shaped azacyanines N2 - New V-shaped non-centrosymmetric dyes, possessing a strongly electron-deficient azacyanine core, have been synthesized based on a straightforward two-step approach. The key step in this synthesis involves palladium-catalysed cross-coupling of dibromo-N,N'-methylene-2,2'-azapyridinocyanines with arylacetylenes. The resulting strongly polarized π-expanded heterocycles exhibit green to orange fluorescence and they strongly respond to changes in solvent polarity. We demonstrate that differently electron-donating peripheral groups have a significant influence on the internal charge transfer, hence on the solvent effect and fluorescence quantum yield. TD-DFT calculations confirm that, in contrast to the previously studied bis(styryl)azacyanines, the proximity of S1 and T2 states calculated for compounds bearing two 4-N,N-dimethylaminophenylethynyl moieties establishes good conditions for efficient intersystem crossing and is responsible for its low fluorescence quantum yield. Non-linear properties have also been determined for new azacyanines and the results show that depending on peripheral groups, the synthesized dyes exhibit small to large two-photon absorption cross sections reaching 4000 GM. Four commercial resistor pastes with sheet resistivities between 10 kΩ and 10 MΩ/cm were analyzed. First they were characterized by SEM/EDX, XRD and Laser diffraction to determine composition and particle distribution. The pastes consist of isolating particles and of Ruthenium based particles that are supposed to build the conductive phase. The pastes were screen printed on LTCC green tape (DP 951) and buried in four layer laminates. Sintering was done in two ways, pressureless (PLS) and also pressure-assisted (PAS). The pressureless sintered resistors showed electrical resistance values roughly in the range of the nominal sheet resistivity and only relatively small fluctuation within one sample. The PAS samples on the other hand showed significantly higher resistances and larger deviations. The microstructure of the sintered resistors was again investigated by SEM and XRD. It seems that the resistivity is determined by the ratio of the two Ruthenium phases RuO2 and Pb2Ru2O6.5, where RuO2 has the higher conductivity. Buried resistors cannot be trimmed by a laser to adjust the resistance. But we discovered that a refiring step will reduce and normalize the resistivity of the PAS resistors significantly. The present work demonstrates how orientation-distribution maps composed of Raman intensity distributions can be acquired on large areas of several hundreds of square micrometers. A polycrystalline CuInSe2 thin film was used as a model system. The orientation distributions are evidenced by corresponding measurements using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) on the same identical specimen positions. The quantitative, local orientation information obtained by means of EBSD was used to calculate the theoretical Raman intensities for specific grain orientations, which agree well with the experimental values. The presented approach establishes new horizons for Raman microspectroscopy as a tool for quantitative, microstructural analysis at submicrometer resolution. The Coulomb interaction in plasma is accounted for by the Debye–Hückel method. The algorithm is used to calculate the equation of state for LIPs containing carbon, silicon, nitrogen, and argon. The equilibrium reaction constants are calculated using the latest experimental and ab initio data of spectroscopic constants for the molecules N2 ,C2 ,Si2 ,CN,SiN,SiC and their ions. The algorithm is incorporated into a fluid dynamic numerical model based on the Navier–Stokes equations describing an expansion of LIP plumes into an ambient gas. To gain deeper insight into the formation of these species, laser-induced plasma of 13C and 15N labeled organic materials was investigated in a temporally and spatially resolved manner. LIBS on fumaric acid with a 13C labeled double bond allowed the formation mechanism of C2 to be investigated by analyzing relative signal intensities of 12C2, 12C13C, and 13C2 molecules. In the early plasma (<5 µs), the majority of C2 originates from association of completely atomized target molecules, whereas in the late plasma, the increased concentration of 13C2 is due to incomplete dissociation of the carbon double bond. The degree of this fragmentation was found to be up to 80% and to depend on the type of the atmospheric gas. Spatial distributions of C2 revealed distinct differences for plasma generated in nitrogen and argon. A study of the interaction of ablated organics with ambient nitrogen showed that the ambient nitrogen contributed mainly to CN formation. The pronounced anisotropy of the C15N to C14N ratio across the diameter of the plasma was observed in the early plasma, indicating poor initial mixing of the plasma with the ambient gas. Overall, for accurate isotope analysis of organics, LIBS in argon with relatively short integration times (<10 µs) provides the most robust results. On the other hand, if information about the original molecular structure is of interest, then experiments in nitrogen (or air) with long integration times appear to be the most promising. Micro-CT is a non-destructive imaging method with high spatial resolution, which enables the examination of the internal structure of objects. It is thus especially suitable for the investigation of cultural heritage and archaeological findings, when it is not possible to sample or difficult to manipulate the object. Using specialized software for 3D visualization and segmentation, data sets of two objects were analyzed. We gained a clear view of the inner structure of a metallic archaeological artifact from the necropolis of Abusir el-Meleq, which is believed to be very ancient in the Egyptian archaeological context (from the Predynastic Era), and were able to distinguish its different omponents under the thick layers of external concretions. These components give hints about the production technology of the object. We also investigated the contents of a closed metal box found near Abusir dated to the Late/Greco-Roman Period. The identified Content corresponds either to sediments or to mineral remains of the original content of the box. Both artifacts are from excavations conducted in Egypt and are part of the archeological collection of the Ägyptisches Museum und Papyrussammlung in Berlin. Endosulfan is transformed under aerobic conditions into endosulfan sulfate (ESS). The study shows for 76 sampling locations in German forests that endosulfan is abundant in all samples with an opposite ratio between the ESI and ESII than the technical product, where the main metabolite ESS is found with even higher abundance. The ratio between ESI/ESII and ESS show clear dependence on the type of stands (coniferous vs. deciduous) and humus type and increases from deciduous via mixed to coniferous forest stands. The study argues for a systematic monitoring of ESI, ESII, and ESS and underlines the need for further research, specifically on the fate of endosulfan including biomagnifications and bioaccumulation in soil. The mass spectra of the process identified Sn+ and SnO+ species as the dominant species sputtered from the target, but no SnO2+ species were detected. The dominant positive ions in argon plasma are Ar+ species. The only detected negative ions were O-. Sputtered neutral tin related species were not detected. Iron related species were also not detected because their concentration is below the detection limit. The concentration of iron dopant in the tin oxide coatings was controlled by the RF bias applied on the substrate holder while the discharge pressure also has some influence. The iron concentration was in the range from 0.9 at.% up to 19 at.% increasing with the substrate bias while the sheet resistivity decreases. The stoichiometry ratio of O/(Sn + Fe) in the coatings increased from 1.7 up to 2 in dependence on the substrate bias from floating bias (- 5 V) up to - 120 V of RF self-bias, respectively. The tin in the coatings was mainly bonded in Sn4 + state and iron was mainly in Fe2 + state when other tin bonding states were detected only in a small amounts. Iron bonding states in contrary to elemental compositions of the coatings were not influenced by the RF bias applied on the substrate. The coatings showed high transparency in the visible spectral range. However, an increased metallic behavior could be detected by using a higher RF bias for the deposition. The X-ray diffraction patterns and electron microscopy pictures made on the coatings confirmed the presence of an amorphous phase. We use the scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM) for efficient computation of the phase velocity dispersion. Regarding the viscoelastic behavior of the materials under consideration, we propose a decomposition approach that considers the real-valued frequency dependence of the (visco-)elastic moduli and, separately, of their attenuation. The modal expansion approach is utilized to take the transmitting and receiving transducers into account and to propagate the excited waveguide modes through a waveguide of finite length. The effectiveness of the proposed simulation model is shown by comparison with a standard transient FEM simulation as well as simulation results based on the exact solution of the complex-valued viscoelastic guided wave problem. Two material models are discussed, namely the fractional Zener model and the anti-Zener model; we re-interpret the latter in terms of the Rayleigh damping model. Measurements are taken on a polypropylene sample and the proposed transient simulation model is used for inverse material characterization. Both tasks are theoretically based on the same concept: The admittance function in frequency–wavenumber domain yields the dispersion as its maxima, and the admittance function in space domain is obtained by integrating it over the wavenumbers. On the experimental side, many signal processing methods have been applied to many sites and have been developed by the authors in the last 35 years, i.e., time-domain methods, including the cross-correlation method, and frequency-domain methods such as the spectral analysis of surface waves with two or multiple sensors, the wavenumber-transform method, and the spatial autocorrelation method. All methods are presented by their basic formula and by at least one example site. Different sensor arrays and deterministic and stochastic sources have been tested for the spatial autocorrelation method and the wavenumber-transform method at several sites. In addition, all frequency-domain methods are presented for a specific layered site comparing their quality. The evaluated dispersion curves are very similar, but a somewhat higher frequency range has been found for the fastest method, i.e., the multi-sensor spectral-analysis-of-surface-waves method. The theoretical solutions have been used for the inversion of the measured dispersion to the soil profile of the specific layered soil. The theoretical soil model has subsequently been used to predict the ground vibration spectra of hammer and railway excitation that exhibit a good agreement with the corresponding measurements. Thus, the contribution shows the benefit of active and passive seismic methods for the prediction of railway vibration, including a new version of the spatial autocorrelation method for technical vibrations. T1 - How life history influences the responses of the clam Scrobicularia plana to the combined impacts of carbamazepine and pH decrease N2 - In the present study, the bivalve Scrobicularia plana, collected from two contrasting areas (pristine location and mercury contaminated area), was selected to assess the biochemical alterations imposed by pH decrease, carbamazepine (an antiepileptic) and the combined effect of both stressors. The effects on oxidative stress related biomarkers after 96 h exposure revealed that pH decrease and carbamazepine induced alterations on clams, with greater impacts on individuals from the contaminated area which presented higher mortality, higher lipid peroxidation and higher glutathione S-transferase activity. These results emphasize the risk of extrapolating results from one area to another, since the same species inhabiting different areas may be affected differently when exposed to the same stressors. Furthermore, the results obtained showed that, when combined, the impact of pH decrease and carbamazepine was lower than each stressor acting alone, which could be related to the defence mechanism of valves closure when bivalves are under higher stressful conditions. The evolution of micro damage is analysed by the non-destructive method of X-ray refraction analysis with consideration of the fibre orientation distribution. For validation of the applied micro damage models, fractographic analyses are performed. Concluding some general results, it has been observed that the load ratio influences the quantitative dominance of micro damage, whereas occurring damage phenomena depend on the type of loading (i.e. tension and torsion). Thus, zones in the Haigh-diagram are detected, where the occurrence of damage mechanisms qualitatively and quantitatively changes. By a self-assembling process, a nanometer thick surface layer with a higher molecular mobility is formed at the polymer/air interface. By measuring the dynamic calorimetric Tg in dependence on the film thickness, it was shown that the Tg of the whole film was strongly influenced by that nanometer thick surface layer, with a lower Tg. Since the observed thickness dependence of the dynamic Tg is similar to the thickness dependence of the Tg for thin films of homopolymers, it is concluded that also for homopolymer a highly mobile surface layer is relevant for the widely observed Tg depression. Different sizes of brass and stainless steel (SS 304L) rods varying from 25.4 mm to 50.8 mm in length and 25.4 mm in diameter are used as specimens in this study. Experiments are conducted with each body inside a diesel pool fire of different diameters, namely 0.5 m, 0.7 m and 1.0 m. The temperature history of the body engulfed in a pool fire is measured to compute the thermal energy absorbed by the lumped body. Using an energy balance, the total energy is divided into three different components. The gas velocity in the flame is measured to be 1.53 m/s to 1.79 m/s for the diesel pool fires of 0.5 m to 1.0 m in diameter. The dominant mode of heat transfer in this study is radiative in nature. This simple model is reasonably able to predict the heat flux incident on to the lumped bodies engulfed by diesel pool fires using the measured temperature history. A three dimensional formulation for an axi-symmetric pool fire of a measured flame shape, flame temperature and a gray flame absorption coefficient is employed to predict the temperature of the body engulfed in pool fires. Pluronic™) in optical imaging of pH values, local oxygen and temperature. The material is highly biocompatible and easy to handle. We also show that the material is well permeable to oxygen (thus making it a good choice for use in oxygen sensors), and is stable in liquid solution and at elevated temperature. We demonstrate its applicability in optical sensors for oxygen, pH and temperature. This was accomplished by incorporating appropriate luminescent probes in various kinds of microparticles (which act as hosts for the probes and prevent dye leaching and aggregation), and then dispersing the microparticles in the thermogelating polymer. The resulting sensor gels were deposited on the surface of interest via spraying at temperatures of <20 °C. At these temperatures, the gels adhere well to the target, even on uneven surfaces such as skin, wounds, and bacterial cultures. If temperature is risen to above 25 °C, the gels form a thin and soft but solid sensing layer which, however, can be simply removed from surface of interest by cooling and wiping it off, or by washing with water. Sprayable thermogelating sensors present obvious advantages over other sensors by not causing damage to the surface of interest. Subsequently, considerable efforts have been made to optimize impact limiting structures aiming to reduce cask stresses and deformations. Though, their benefits can only fully be exploited, if the energy absorbing behavior is reliable simulated by numerical models which play an increasingly important role in safety assessments. BAM has had conducted the 5-years research project ENREA in order to overcome the problems caused by the use of simplified, not sufficiently validated or even defective computational concepts for damping materials. While major results of the just recently completed program will be presented, the focus is laid on the question whether these Outputs provide a solid foundation for approximating impact limiting structures in all relevant configurations. So far, material models have been implemented for spruce, Polyurethane foams and damping concrete based mainly on small and medium scale compression test results. The experimental program performed at BAM comprised likewise guided drop tests and, especially for concrete, penetration tests. Although the resulting numerical simulations showed good agreement with measured values, it turned out to be necessary to consider further effects with regard to e.g. multiaxial stress States, shearfailures of shock absorbing components and their interaction with enclosed or enclosing structures. Its underlying fate mechanisms and influences on plant growth are still largely unknown. Our goal was to understand OMW organic matter (OMW-OM) degradation in soil and its phytotoxic effects. We hypothesized that OMW phytotoxicity decreased with degradation of its phenolic components. Methods In a 60 day incubation study, we monitored soil respiration, extractable total phenolic content (TPC) and carbon isotope ratio (δ13C) of OMW treated Israeli soil. The soil was extracted using accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) and its extracts were exemplarily analyzed for four phenolic substances by LC/MS. Phytotoxicity of soil and soil extracts were tested using a Lepidium sativum seed germination bioassay. Results Soil respiration was 2.5 times higher for OMW treated soil with two respiration maxima and indicated a degradation of up to 27 % of the added OMW-OM. Four phases of OMW-OM degradation were identified: (i) degradation of easily degradable OMW-OM and transformation of phenolic compounds, (ii) intermediate suppression of phytotoxicity, (iii) degradation of phytotoxic phenolic compounds and (iv) significant physical immobilization of phytotoxic compounds. Conclusion Environmental conditions during and after OMW disposal on soil ought to favor fast degradation of OMW-OM, minimizing their physical immobilization and phytotoxic effects. These impact limiters shall ensure the transport cask meets the IAEA safety requirements. After damage caused by the mechanical tests the package has to withstand a severe fire scenario. According to the regulations during and following the fire test, the specimen shall not be artificially cooled and any combustion of materials of the package shall be permitted to proceed naturally. Due to results of the French institute IRSN it was shown that after the fire test an additional energy supply from a pre-damaged impact limiter should be taken into account. The combustion or smouldering of wood was of interest. BAM started a first test phase to examine the issue of combustion for such kind of package components. The goal was to understand the phenomena under the consideration of relevant regulatory boundary conditions. Several metal buckets were filled with wood and equipped with thermocouples. The test specimens have been prepared with different damage arrangements to take the influence of the mechanical tests into account. The impact Ioads acting on the Iid in this orientation result mainly from interaction between Iid and internal content. In case of a movable content its impact onto the inner side of the Iid can cause additional Ioad peaks on the Iid and the Iid bolts. The intensity of the internal collision depends on the position of content relating to Iid at the time of package first contact with target. Due to physical limitations an axial gap, which could be set in "pre-drop" configuration of package or which could spontaneously appear during the drop test, usually does not cover the maximum size possible in specific package design. We report the synthesis and OER performance of highly active mesoporous IrO2 catalysts with optimized surface area, intrinsic activity, and pore accessibility. Catalytic layers with controlled pore size were obtained by soft-templating with micelles formed from amphiphilic block copolymers poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(butadiene)-b-poly(ethylene oxide). A systematic study on the influence of the calcination temperature and film thickness on the morphology, phase composition, accessible surface area, and OER activity reveals that the catalytic performance is controlled by at least two independent factors, that is, accessible surface area and intrinsic activity per accessible site. Catalysts with lower crystallinity show higher intrinsic activity. The catalyst surface area increases linearly with film thickness. As a result of the templated mesopores, the pore surface remains fully active and accessible even for thick IrO2 films. Microcracks accelerate material failure and wear during this phase of heightened friction. With this in mind, the ultimate goal of this current work is to transfer the running-in phase into the final step of the mechanical finishing process through the targeted pre-conditioning of novel, high toughness steel bearings without thermo-chemical treatments and compare these to conventional, case-hardened steels. This pre-conditioning involved the targeted implementation of two specific lubricant packages, the first with CaCO3 as the active ingredient and the second with MoDTC as the active ingredient, to generate chemically reactive tribolayers (tribofilms) on twin disk testing rigs. Pre-conditioning was carried out up to 104 load cycles (approximately 25 min). The films generated in pre-conditioning were analyzed by SEM-EDX with Element-Mapping, Raman spectroscopy, and XPS to elucidate their molecular composition and concentration on the sample surfaces. The combination of these methods of analysis gave a clear indication that 104 cycles were sufficient to generate stable chemical tribofilms. CaO and CaCO3 were the main components of the tribofilm from the first lubricant package, while MoS2, MoO2 and MoO3 were the main components from the second lubricant package. Tribofilm-protected samples were then subjected to slip-rolling endurance testing (T=+120 °C, 10,000,000 cycles, approximately 19 days in a factory fill engine oil) to determine any changes in friction behavior or wear performance. Some significant reductions in coefficients of friction at the end of endurance testing were observed, though in certain cases, no definitive improvement was observed. In contrast, very strong reductions in wear were observed across the entire spectrum of materials and testing loads. In some cases, sample surface wear reduction from pre-conditioning via tribofilms reached over 90%. The observed improvements to friction behavior and wear performance are indicative of a technically simple, cost- and energy-efficient pre-conditioning method that may prove to be competitive with existing thermochemical treatments for steel alloys. Therefore frequently used sealing materials such as FKM (fluorocarbon rubber), FVMQ (methyl-fluoro-silicone rubber), VMQ (methyl-vinyl-silicone rubber), EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene rubber), CR (chloroprene rubber), CSM (chlorosulfonated polyethylene), IIR (butyl rubber), PA (polyamides), N8R (acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber) and PUR (polyester urethane rubber) were exposed to E1 0, diese I fuel with 5% biodiesel, non-aged and 2 year aged 810 (heating oil with 10% biodiesel), and for comparison to pure diese! fuel, standard heating oil and Super plus without bioethanol at 20 °C, 40 oc and 70 oc for 84 days. Mass, tensile strength and breaking elongation of the test specimens were determined before and after the exposure. The visual examination of some elastomer test specimens clearly showed the great volume increase until break or partial dissolution. Shore hardness A and D (for PA) were determined before and after exposure of the test specimens to the biofuels for 42 days. There is not determined a threshold for the reduction in tensile properties and Shore hardness in the international standards. Therefore a threshold of 15% was determined for the evaluation of the compatibility. The sealing materials FKM, EPDM, N8R, FMVQ, CSM and PA were evaluated on the basis of this threshold as resistant in E1 0 at 20 oc and 40 °C. FKM, FVMQ and PA were resistant at 40 oc , and none of the materials were resistant at 70 °C. FKM and FVMQ absorbed much less 810 and swelled less. CR, CSM, EPDM, IIR, N8R and VMQ were not resistant to 810 at all at 20 oc, 40 oc and 70 oc as the decrease in the tensile properties was significantly over 50%. FVMQ and PA could be evaluated as resistant in non-aged and two year aged 810 at 20 oc and 40 oc, whereas FKM was resistant up to 70 °C. FKM, PA and PUR were evaluated as resistant in standard heating oil and pure diese! fuel at temperatures up to 40°C, only FKM was resistant up to 70°C. FVMQ, FKM, N8R, VMQ, CR and IIR can be evaluated as resistant in premium grade fuel Super plus without ethanol at 20 oc. FKM, FVMQ, VMQ and IIR were still resistant at 40 °C. However, a challenge is the positioning, both in terms of step detection, step length approximation as well as heading estimation, which must be accurate and robust, even when the use of the device is varied in terms of placement or orientation. In this paper, we propose a scheme for retrieving relevant information to detect steps and to estimate the correct step length from raw inertial measurement unit (IMU) data. This approach uses Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory Recurrent Neural Networks (BLSTM-RNNs). Designed to take contextual information into account, the network can process data gathered from different positions, resulting in a system, which is invariant with respect to transformation and distortions of the input patterns. An experimental evaluation on a dataset produced from 10 individuals demonstrates that this new approach achieves significant improvements over previous attempts and increase the current state-of-the-art results even in the presence of variations and degradations. We achieved a mean classification rate of 98.5% and a standard deviation of 0.70 for 10000 different test sequences and an average error of 1.45% regarding the step length. Thus is the best result on the task gathered in the experiments compared with competing techniques. Our approach utilises an intermediate-scale test set-up (specimen size 500 × 500 mm) to apply realistic compressive loads and fully developed fires directly to one side of a carbon-fibre-reinforced sandwich composite. Three different intumescent coatings were applied to sandwich structures and compared to a bench-scale study. The results emphasise intumescent coatings as a promising method to sustain fire resistance, multiplying the time to failure. Nevertheless, the realistic intermediate-scale test using severe direct flame application underlines the extremely short failure times when the actual composite components are tested without any additional insulation. While the former were apparently free of defects (other than unavoidable point defects), the latter contained two domains separated by a grain boundary. Since atomic ordering can be modeled by space group symmetry descent considerations (Bärnighausen trees) that start with the space group of the known crystallographic phases of random (Mn,Ga)As alloys with specified chemical compositions, reasonable structure hypotheses have been derived for two atomically ordered Mn0.75Ga0.25As phases that we call the trigonal α' and the monoclinic β' phases. The implications of these structure hypotheses are in agreement with the results of a range of scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and parallel illumination electron diffraction (ED) studies that include quantitative energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray spectroscopic imaging, as well nanobeam diffraction and high angle precession ED. For this purpose, different magnetostrictive coated fiber optic sensors were developed and various experiments were performed to verify their mode of operation and to determine the respective reproducibility. Moreover, the magnesium matrix presents a bimodal grain structure with dynamically-recrystallized grains and deformed, elongated grains with the basal plane parallel to the extrusion direction. The beginning of plasticity depends on the volume fraction of deformed and DRX grains. Alloys with low volume fraction of LPSO phase (<10 vol%), with a high volume fraction of deformed grains, show the typical behavior of extruded magnesium alloys where yield stress in tension is higher than in compression. Mit DIN 50100 soll erreicht werden, dass die Wöhlerlinien verschiedener Prüfstellen miteinander vergleichbar und die wesentlichen Randbedingungen der Versuchsdurchführung dokumentiert werden. Da die Ergebnisse von Schwingfestigkeitsversuchen streuen, ist die Treffsicherheit für die Schätzung der Kennwerte von der Anzahl der Versuche einer Versuchsreihe abhängig. Describing and collecting the use of the experimental methods for monitoring purposes was the objective of working group 3 "Monitoring of Timber Structures" of the COST Action. Monitoring capabilities will extend the use of timber structures to further applications in civil engineering. So far, no standard exists but collections of application examples and review papers representing the state of the art. Lyophilized nematodes were studied by X-ray absorption near edge structure spectrometry (XANES) in order to characterize the zinc speciation. Furthermore, in the cross-sections prepared by focused ion beam technique, elemental maps were obtained using the electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) technique. XANES spectra were collected from three different regions (head, midbody and tail region) of nematodes in case of two different treatments (50 mg/L bulk and nano-ZnO suspension, 24 h long treatment). The sample spectra were fitted by the spectra of several reference compounds, the main components of the fitted spectra are the following in all cases: bulk/nano-ZnO; Zn–His and Zn3(PO4)2 * xH2O. Consequently, partial biotransformation takes place for both treatments, histidine- and phosphate-rich ligands play dominant role in the binding of zinc. According to the result of the EPMA analysis, it can be established that the distribution of zinc correlates with the calcium and phosphorus distribution for both treatments. Considering the results of the investigations performed by the two microanalytical techniques, it is likely that calcium phosphate granules were formed in order to bind zinc and hereby to take part in zinc detoxification. Apparent difference in the behavior of bulk and nano-sized ZnO in the body of the investigated nematodes was not found. It was assumed that these interactions strongly depend not only on chemical molecular parameters but also on physical powder material properties and that they might be affected by storage. This was examined with nine different pectin samples from three suppliers. Storage at 60 °C and 80% humidity for two weeks was used in order to simulate long term storage at moderate conditions. Material properties were tested by measuring solid density and BET surface and by mercury porosimetry and X-ray analysis. Pectin-water interactions were examined with two different methods, a modified sorption method at αw around 1.0 and the capillary sucking method (Baumann method). After storage, the BET surface of the pectin samples was reduced, solid density was altered differently and crystalline structures became amorphous. It is assumed that storage at high heat and humidity caused particle surfaces softening, swelling and partly dissolution. The particle surfaces smoothed, small inter-particle voids were reduced or sealed and particles agglomerated. These alterations caused a reduced water uptake of stored pectins. In general, the accessibility of hydrophilic groups in pectin was more important for pectin-water interactions than their number. All applied methods for testing pectin-water interactions detected special sample properties and their combination allowed an extensive evaluation of the water binding properties. Alloys with low volume fraction of LPSO phase(o10vol%),with a high volume fraction of deformed grains, show the typical behavior of extruded magnesium alloys where yield stress in tension is higher than in compression. Dabei wurde ein System entwickelt, das Partikelbibliotheken in kurzer Zeit auf ihre Bindung zu einem Zielmolekül hin untersucht und im nächsten Schritt eine direkte „Ein-Partikel“-Sequenzierung der Peptide von der festen Phase ermöglicht. Die Analyse der Bindung eines Zielmoleküls an ein selektiv bindendes Peptid wurde dabei in einem Modellsystem simuliert. Dazu wurde FITC-markiertes Neutravidin 3 mit festphasengebundenen biotinylierten und nicht-biotinylierten Peptiden inkubiert. Die Bindung von Neutravidin-FITC an die biotinylierten Peptide konnte erfolgreich mittels eines Fluoreszenzmikroskops nachgewiesen werden, wobei diese Methode für eine Hochdurchsatzanalyse ungeeignet war. So wurde die Analyse des Fluoreszenzassays auf einen Microarrayscanner übertragen (siehe Abbildung 33). Dies gelang erfolgreich wobei die hohe Eigenfluoreszenz des Tentagel-Harzes zu falsch positiven Ergebnissen führte. Mit einem Wechsel zum längerwelligen Fluoreszenzfarbstoff ATTO-633 konnten falsch positive Ergebnisse vermieden werden. In general, gastight fuel rods constitute the first barrier of the containment system. The physical state of the spent fuel and the fuel rod cladding as well as the geometric configuration of the fuel assemblies are important inputs for the evaluation of the package safety under transport conditions. The objective of this paper is to discuss the methodologies accepted by BAM for the authority assessment of spent fuel behavior within the package design approval procedure of German package designs. In particular, cracks or failures in the fuel rod cladding can occur under regulatory transport conditions. These defects can cause the release of gas, volatiles, fuel particles or fragments into the package cavity and have to be considered properly in the safety analysis. Another issue is the transport of defective fuel rods. One concept is to use special canisters which can be handled like fuel assemblies. This concept requires additional assessment concerning drying, sealing and the mechanical and thermal design of such canisters. The package as a mechanical system is characterized by a complex set of interactions, e.g. between the fuel rods within the assembly as well as between the fuel assemblies, the basket, and the cask containment. This complexity together with the limited knowledge about the material properties and the variation of the fuel assemblies regarding cladding material, burn-up and the operation history makes an exact mechanical analysis of the fuel rods nearly impossible. Here, we present two-dimensional finite-difference numerical simulation results of a promising non-destructive quality assurance testing tool to evaluate the diameter of jet grout columns. In this contribution a Raman-based advanced process control (APC) is introduced for the absorption of carbon dioxide (CO2) using an aqueous solution of monoethanolamine (MEA). The APC is based on a Raman spectroscopic analysis of the composition and CO2 load of the scrubbing liquid and a non-linear model predictive control (NMPC) to adjust the scrubbing liquid cycle. In addition, an outer real-time optimization loop is set in place to update the set points for the absorption process depending on the current feed gas composition minimizing the energy consumption of the process. Implementation and testing of the APC have been carried out in a mini-plant at TU Berlin. During a plant operation of more than 160 hours robustness and stability of the APC were shown. T1 - GDXray: The Database of X-ray Images for Nondestructive Testing N2 - In this paper, we present a new dataset consisting of 19,407 X-ray images. The images are organized in a public database called GDXray that can be used free of charge, but for research and educational purposes only. The database includes five groups of X-ray images: castings, welds, baggage, natural objects and settings. Each group has several series, and each series several X-ray images. Most of the series are annotated or labeled. In such cases, the coordinates of the bounding boxes of the objects of interest or the labels of the images are available in standard text files. The size of GDXray is 3.5 GB and it can be downloaded from our website. We believe that GDXray represents a relevant contribution to the X-ray testing community. On the one hand, students, researchers and engineers can use these X-ray images to develop, test and evaluate image analysis and computer vision algorithms without purchasing expensive X-ray equipment. On the other hand, these images can be used as a benchmark in order to test and compare the performance of different approaches on the same data. Interdisziplinäres Doktorandenseminar N2 - Das interdisziplinäre Doktorandenseminar, das unter den Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern mittlerweile als echter Geheimtipp gehandelt wird, startete dieses Mal gleich in medias res mit einem Design-Thinking-Workshop zum Thema "Prozessanalytik für Industrie 4.0". Das Thema ist derzeit in aller Munde, erfährt eine eigene Dynamik und es wird hierzulande kräftig an Roadmaps und White Papers gestrickt. So kam aus Fachkreisen der VDI/GMA und NAMUR der Vorschlag, die Generation der zukünftigen Kolleginnen und Kollegen zu dem Thema zu befragen, die die heute verbrochenen Konzepte zukünftig selber ausbaden müssen. Die Vorträge der nächsten beiden Tage umfassten wieder ein sehr breites und interdisziplinäres Themen-, Methoden- und Anwendungsspektrum. Neben lumineszenten Temperatursensoren in Mikrochipreaktoren, Mikromischer NMR-Detektion und in Arbeitsschutzkleidung integrierte Chemosensorik folgten einige Vorträge zu Verbesserungen und neunen Konzepten von Biosensoren sowie für Immuno-Micorarray-Verfahren. Die ebenfalls diskutierten Identifizierungs- und Quantifizierungsverfahren reichten von der Kokskohle bis zur Arzneitablette. Desweiteren wurde der Bogen von lumineszenten Nanopartikeln zu Kalibrationsstandards für Trübungssonden gespannt. Neben den Erzeugen der Daten ist ein intelligentes Datenmanagement notwendig um die Informationen auch zu verarbeiten und entsprechend dem User zu präsentieren. Die interdisziplinäre Ausrichtung und Vielfalt der verschiedenen Forschungsbereiche spiegelte sich auch in den Postersession wieder. Die Themen umfassten etwa Softsensoren für die Regelung von CHO-Zellkultivierungen, Prozessanalytik für die Reaktivabsorption von CO2 aus industriellen Gasströmen oder Alkoholmarker in menschlichem Haar, um nur einige zu nennen.
