T1 - Erfahrungen aus dem Rückbau der Brücke am Altstädter Bahnhof in der Stadt Brandenburg JF - Beton- und Stahlbetonbau N2 - Bei der Brücke Altstädter Bahnhof handelte es sich um eine große Spannbetonkonstruktion, die einen elementaren Ver­kehrsknotenpunkt in der Stadt Brandenburg an der Havel bil­dete. Entgegen üblichen Spannbetonkonstruktionen mit kleinen Bündelspanngliedern kamen beim Haupttragwerk in Längsrich­tung großformatige Spannblockspannglieder zum Einsatz. Im Fall der vorliegenden Brücke setzte sich das Spannglied aus 392 ovalen Einzeldrähten aus Hennigsdorfer Produktion zusam­men, welche als spannungsrisskorrosionsgefährdet gelten. Bei Bauwerkserkundungen wurde ein hoher Versprödungsgrad der Spannstähle festgestellt, sodass die Brücke am 19.05.2021 ge­sprengt werden musste. Zuvor traten im Bereich detektierter Spanndrahtbrüche von außen erkennbare Längsrisse in den Stegen anstatt von üblicherweise quer gerichteten Biegerissen an der gezogenen Randfaser auf. Die abweichende Schadens­äußerung im Falle einer Spannstahlschädigung brachte das Bundesministerium für Digitales und Verkehr (BMDV) dazu, weitergehende Untersuchungen durchzuführen. In Zusammen­arbeit mit dem Landesbetrieb Straßenwesen Brandenburg, der Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Dresden sowie der Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und ­prüfung (BAM) wur­den experimentelle Untersuchungen in­situ konzipiert und durchgeführt. Im Konkreten wurde an zwei Messstellen eine gezielte Schädigung des großformatigen Spannglieds vorge­nommen, um das zuvor vorgefundene Schadensbild nach­zuvoll ziehen und validieren zu können. Konzept, Ergebnisse aus den Untersuchungen und Erkenntnisse für gleichartig ausge­führte Bauwerke sind Gegenstand des ersten Beitrags (Teil 1). Der zweite Teil [1] wird sich im Schwerpunkt den verwendeten Messverfahren und Monitoringsystemen widmen, welche die Durchführung des Versuchs begleiteten. The International Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) as well as ISO 2248 describe the characteristics of impact targets for drop tests of dangerous goods packagings. According to these regulations, the impact target’s surface needs to be unyielding, under testing conditions non-deformable, flat, and integral with a mass at least 50 times that of the heaviest packaging to be tested. The problem is that many production facilities, especially manufacturers of corrugated fibreboard boxes, do not have their own testing device with the required 50 times mass ratio of the impact target for a regulation compliant drop test during series production. Furthermore, at UN level it is considered necessary to revise these requirements. In the present paper, the impact target requirements are examined in detail and compared with those in other technical areas (e.g., impact target for container for the transport of radioactive materials). A research method is being developed to investigate the dependency between the mass ratio of the packaging and the target as well as the damage resistance of a drop tested package in relation to specific design characteristics. The results are of high relevance for industry purposes and intended to ensure a uniform level of safety assessment for the mechanical testing of dangerous goods packagings. This paper presents and validates 3D FE/PML numerical schemes based on two different PML formulations for homogeneous and inhomogeneous geological media exhibiting discrete or continuous inhomogeneity. In the equation of motion for the PML domain the applied stretching behavior is expressed either as complex material properties or as complex coordinates. Both PML formulations are implemented in the FEM and verified against analytical solutions. Three different types of material inhomogeneity are considered: layered half-space, continuously inhomogeneous half-space with linear velocity profile and continuously inhomogeneous half-space with nonlinear velocity profile. Sensitivity analyses are conducted, and the performance of the developed numerical schemes is investigated taking into account a broad variation of the PML parameters. Recommendations are given for the optimal values of the PML parameters for the case of homogeneous and inhomogeneous geological media. Dazu gehört eine Zündgefahrenbewertung, bei der auch nichtelektrische Zündquellen betrachtet werden müssen, zu denen die mechanischen Schlagvorgänge gehören. Bei dieser Zündquellenart kommt es infolge eines Schlages und/oder Reibens eines Bauteils auf ein anderes zu einer Energieumwandlung. Dadurch kommt es zu einer Temperaturerhöhung an der Kontaktstelle sowie unter Umständen zu einem Abtrennvorgang kleiner Partikel erhöhter Temperatur. Sowohl die heißen Reibflächen als auch die abgetrennten Partikel stellen potentielle Zündquellen explosionsfähiger Atmosphären dar. Edelstahl ist für Geräte für die Verwendung zum bestimmungsgemäßen Gebrauch im explosionsgefährdeten Bereich insbesondere in der Chemie ein wichtiger Konstruktionswerkstoff. Die Ergebnisse des Forschungsprojektes "Entwicklung normativer Anforderungen an explosionsgeschützte nichtelektrische Geräte resultierend aus der Zündfähigkeit mechanisch erzeugter Schlagfunken (NAMES)" zeigen, dass Schlagvorgänge mit Edelstählen eine erhebliche Zündgefahr von explosionsfähigen Brenngasgemischen darstellen können. Dabei bestehen jedoch mitunter deutliche Unterschiede zwischen den verschiedenen Brenngasgemischen. Besonders hohe Zündwahrscheinlichkeiten konnten bei Brenngasgemischen mit Brenngasen der IEC-Explosionsgruppe IIC beobachtet werden, die Acetylen bzw. Wasserstoff als Brenngas enthielten. Schläge im Wasserstoff/Luft-Gemisch waren dabei jedoch bedeutend zündwirksamer. In diesem Gasgemisch konnte bei niedrigen maximalen Schlagenergien bis 60 J sogar eine mitunter höhere relative Zündhäufigkeit beobachtet werden als bei Versuchen mit unlegiertem Baustahl. In this study, the performance of the standardized test method regulated in the DIN EN ISO 16852 standard for in-line flame arresters for stable and unstable detonations, which is mainly designed for atmospheric conditions, is examined. In an interlaboratory comparison, experiments are performed for different pressures before ignition and explosion groups according to the standardized test method. The experimental data is analyzed in detail to further optimize the test method and to thus achieve an improved reproducibility of detonation tests at high pressures, especially regarding the deflagration to detonation transition. Based on these results, an improved test method for detonation flame arresters will be developed, which will ensure better reproducibility as well as applicability under non-atmospheric conditions. Both active method (CO2 diluting air) and passive method (CO2 replacing O2) were used. The TG and DTG thermal analysis tests were conducted to study the pyrolysis and combustion characteristics of dust samples. An alternative explosion criterion based on combustion duration time was used to determine MEC, and compared with the standardized overpressure method. Under 10-kJ ignition condition, as oxygen mole fraction (XO2) decreased from 21% to 10%, MEC of agriculture dusts and coal dusts respectively increased by around 5 times and 2 times. The active inerting method with a lower N2/CO2 ratio was found to have a better suppression effect on the explosion of the five carbonaceous dusts because the blend has a higher specific heat and a lower oxygen diffusion rate. The threshold value of the best correlation coefficients for the linear regression of temperature and ultrasonic velocity changes was also studied. Due to the complexity of the problem, it still causes damage to concrete constructions worldwide. The publication aims to illustrate the interdisciplinary research of the German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) within the last 20 years, considering all aspects of ASR topics from the macro to the micro level. First, methods for characterization and assessment of ASR risks and reaction products used at BAM are explained and classified in the international context. Subsequently the added value of the research approach by combining different, preferably nondestructive, methods across all scales is explained using specific examples from a variety of research projects. Zur möglichst guten statistischen Absicherung nahmen an dem Ringversuch dreizehn erfahrene Prüfstellen teil, die vorab einem Audit unterzogen wurden. Zur Abdeckung des vielschichtigen Einsatzes des Prüfverfahrens erfolgte der Ringversuch an acht Prüflosen, die sowohl die Erst-/ Eignungsprüfung und Übereinstimmungskontrolle bei Neubaumaßnahmen, als auch die Restsubstanzbewertung von Betonfahrbahnplatten berücksichtigen. Zur Bewertung des Materialeinflusses wurde zusätzlich ein Prüflos mit Labormörtel untersucht. Die Probenvorbereitung erfolgte zentral an der BAM. Zur Sicherstellung einheitlicher Prüfbedingungen bei den Prüfstellen wurde zusätzlich eine detaillierte Standardarbeitsanweisung erarbeitet, die partiell bereits Eingang in das Normenwerk gefunden hat. Bei der Plausibilitätsprüfung aller prüflosspezifischen Einzelwerte der Spaltzug- und Druckfestigkeit wurden vereinzelt sowohl Ausführungsfehler als auch Übertragungs- und Tippfehler festgestellt. Der sich anschließende Lilliefors-Test zeigt, dass die ermittelten Einzelwerte bis auf wenige Aus-nahmen normalverteilt sind und damit die Voraussetzungen für die statistische Auswertung gegeben sind. Mittels grafischer Darstellung der Mandel’s h- und k-Werte wurden die Auffälligkeiten hinsichtlich der Mittelwerte und Varianzen prüflosspezifisch für die einzelnen Prüfstellen visualisiert und anschließend einige von ihnen mittels Grubbs- und Cochran-Test als Ausreißer identifiziert. Nach Ausreißerelimination wurde mit dem klassischen Verfahren bei der Spaltzugfestigkeit der geringste Variationskoeffizient unter Vergleich- und Wiederholbedingungen bei der Erst-/Eignungsprüfung mit 6,2 und 6,4 Prozent ermittelt. Bei einer Verminderung des Materialeinflusses durch die Verwendung eines Labormörtels verbessern sich die statistischen Kennwerte auf 4,5 und 5,3 Prozent. Mit 8,2 und 9,5 Prozent beziehungsweise 8,6 und 9,5 Prozent werden bei der Restsubstanzbewertung von Wasch- und Unterbetonen die höchsten Werte bestimmt. Das robuste Auswerteverfahren (ohne Eliminierung der Ausreißer) nach dem Entwurf des FGSV-Merkblatts zur statistischen Auswertung von Prüfergebnissen erwies sich in der Form als ungeeignet und bedurfte einer Überarbeitung. Bezüglich der vergleichend mit klassischen und robusten Verfahren gewonnenen Kennwerte ist festzustellen, dass bei sehr homogenen Messergebnissen eines Prüfloses beide Verfahren nahezu die gleichen statistischen Kennwerte liefern. Bei der Eliminierung von Ausreißern sind die Ergebnisse des robusten Verfahrens in der Regel etwas größer als die des klassischen Verfahrens. Die begleitenden vertiefenden Untersuchungen bei der Spaltzugprüfung mit innovativen Prüftechniken lieferten wertvolle Erkenntnisse zur Bewertung der Prüfeinflüsse. N2 - The computational design of concrete pavements according to the requirements of the RDO-Beton 09 requires the splitting tensile strength to be determined according to specifications of the AL Sp-Beton. However, detailed information on the precision of the described test procedure is missing. Therefore, a round robin test was set up in order to determine the statistical parameters of the prescribed splitting tensile strength test on laboratory concrete and cores extracted from concrete pavements in terms of repeatability and reproducibility. 13 testing institutes have been involved in the round robin test to guarantee a representative coverage of the sector. The selected testing institutes have been audited prior the round robin test in order to ensure their capabilities. The round robin test was divided into 8 testing lots for covering the broad field of possible applications. Thereby, the testing lots cover both the initial testing of concrete and quality control of new construction. The latter case implies also the assessment of existing concrete pavements. Additionally, a cementitious mortar was designed in order to consider the influence of the material, such as maximum grain size, on the test procedure. The samples were prepared at BAM to guarantee a uniform sample preparation. Furthermore, a standard operating procedure was prepared to assure constant test conditions at the testing institutes. This standard operating procedure is already partly considered by the corresponding standard. A revision of the data reported by the testing institutes revealed that execution errors, transcription errors as well as typing errors occurred. However, a Lilliefors-Test was conducted to verify the Gaussian distribution of the reported test data and to allow the further statistical analysis. Only view data sets do not follow a Gaussian distribution, has no remarkable influence on the obtained statistical data. By means of the graphical illustration of Mandel’s h- and k-values, abnormalities of the arithmetic mean and variance are depicted. These apparent abnormalities can be identified as outliers using the Grubbs and Cochran test. After eliminating the identified outliers, the corresponding statistical parameters have been determined using the classical method for data analysis. The lowest coefficient of variation that was determined for the splitting tensile strength by using the classical method for assessment of the repeatability and reproducibility of the test procedure amounts to 6.2 and 6.4%, respectively, for the initial testing of concrete. Reducing the material influence by using a cementitious mortar, the corresponding statistical parameters were reduced to 4.5 and 5.3%. On the contrary, the highest statistical values were obtained for the assessment of existing concrete pavements. Here, values of 8.2 and 9.5% were obtained for the exposed aggregate concrete and 8.6 and 9.5% for the subconcrete, respectively. The robust method for data analysis (without elimination of outliers) according to the draft version of the technical bulletin of the FGSV turned out to be inappropriate and required, therefore, a revision. Comparing the statistical parameters obtained by the classical and robust method used for data analysis it can be stated that both methods result in nearly identical values for homogeneous data sets without outliers. Considering outliers in the existing data sets, the statistical parameters obtained by the robust method are slightly higher than the values obtained by the classical method with elimination of outliers. The additional investigations on the splitting tensile strength using innovative test procedures provided valuable findings for the assessment of test results. For years, it has been known that the aerosols of phenolphthalein are suspected of being carcinogenic. Hence, more work has currently being done on alternative indicators for the use in research and the use on construction sites. Over the past years, mainly pH indicators from other research areas and natural dyes were investigated for their usability to cementitious systems. This paper presents the experimental results of using phenolphthalein solution bound in agar-agar gel. This gel-bound indicator allows the future use of the already known phenolphthalein dye without the health hazards for the user. To demonstrate the flexibility of the gel-bound colorant, different application forms of the indicator were carried out and assessed. In addition, the results obtained by the different methods were statistically evaluated to ensure validity. The accuracy of the results was confirmed by thermogravimetric analysis and IR spectroscopic studies as reference methods. It has also succeeded to demonstrate the comparability of the results achieved by the gel-bound colorant with the results of the common sprayed application method. As an additional gain in knowledge, comparative results of indicator tests, TGA analysis, and FTIR investigation are shown. In this work, the vibration response of a finite element model of a rail with hunting-induced loads by a single wheel is analyzed in three directions: longitudinal, lateral, and vertical. The contact patch forces are calculated by means of Simpack® using the Kalker linear theory and the contact Hertz theory. The system is solved by using the Newmark-_ approach. The results of the deflection and vibration analysis, following the proposed methodology, show how the different characteristics of the loads impact the rail. The International Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) as well as ISO 2248 describe the characteristics of impact targets for drop tests of dangerous goods packagings. According to these regulations, the impact target’s surface needs to be unyielding, under testing conditions non-deformable, flat, and integral with a mass at least 50 times that of the heaviest packaging to be tested. The problem is that many production facilities, especially manufacturers of corrugated fibreboard boxes, do not have their own testing device with the required 50 times mass ratio of the impact target for a regulation compliant drop test during series production. Furthermore, at UN level it is considered necessary to revise these requirements. In the present paper, the impact target requirements are examined in detail and compared with those in other technical areas (e.g., impact target for container for the transport of radioactive materials). A research method is being developed to investigate the dependency between the mass ratio of the packaging and the target as well as the damage resistance of a drop tested package in relation to specific design characteristics. For this purpose, the angle of repose is currently used for the UN approvals in Germany. Measurements were carried out on 12 powdery or granular substances applying the angle of repose measuring methods customary in the test centres. The results of the methods differ significantly from each other. In addition, some of the techniques cannot be applied for very cohesive or coarse-grained materials. The results for the angle of repose show a strong scatter for some constellations (coefficient of variation more than 20 %). Safety during transport of dangerous goods cannot be guaranteed with this currently practiced system of measuring the angle of repose. As a consequence, an alternative parameter to characterize the flow properties of bulk materials should be used in the recognized test centers for dangerous goods packagings, such as the Hausner ratio. This approach leads to more precise test results for the substances examined (maximum coefficient of variation 2.8 %). It also has advantages in terms of applicability and occupational safety. Since the flow properties are safety-relevant, both in terms of mechanical safety and safety against the release of dangerous substances, the testing practice in the recognized test labs should be improved and standardized. This regulation severely limits the use of alkali-sensitive aggregates by requiring that their suitability be verified by certified inspectors using newly developed AAR concrete tests that involve the external supply of alkali. This has led to a significant limitation in the number of aggregates usable for concrete pavements. A novel AAR avoidance strategy is now being pursued, which aims to enable the use of borderline alkali-sensitive aggregates through the application of an internal water-repellent treatment. The addition of water repellents during concrete production should significantly reduce the ingress of water and external de-icing salts into the concrete pavement, thus reducing the potential for AAR damage. This paper presents the results of laboratory tests to assess the suitability of this new AAR prevention strategy. Representative, highly AAR-susceptible road paving concrete made with an alkali-sensitive greywacke and various water repellents were used as the basis for these experiments. The tests for concrete suitability included determining the conventional fresh and hardened concrete properties as well as concrete prism tests with external alkaline supply. Building on these results, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) analyses of de-icing-salt intrusion as well as microscopic examinations for verification of the AAR characteristics were carried out. The results of the AAR concrete tests with external alkaline supply support the conclusion that, when hydrophobic agents containing a suitable active ingredient are used, the AAR damage process in road paving concrete can be sufficiently prevented. Calcined clays range from a variety of different clay types based on an assortment of varying minerals and compositions. While extensive data is available on kaolinitic clays (based on the 1:1 clay type), other clays such as brick clays (based on the 2:1 clay type) are currently understudied, although such clays are largely more available than the kaolinitic clays. The aim of this thesis is to draw attention to the varying compositions present in two selected brick clays in Germany and elaborate on how such compositions affect their suitability to be used as SCMs in blended cement systems. The novelty of this thesis explains the relationship between the reactivity of the bricks to their varying compositions and their suitability for their employment as SCMs. This was based on their chemical and physical transformations in the calcination temperature range 650–900 or 950 °C, and the performance of the calcined brick clays in blended cement systems measured by their heat evolution, strength development and durability-related properties. The results of their performance were compared to two kaolinitic clays with varying compositions. While the kaolinitic clays generally exhibited the best performance as SCMs, the brick clay with a lower Fe2O3 content showed promising results similar to the kaolinitic clays when an optimum calcination temperature is applied and when substituted at a moderate cement substitution rate. Thus, this finding promoted further efforts made to improve the reactivity of the brick clay by producing a mixed clay composed of 50 % brick clay (with lower Fe2O3 content) and 50 % kaolinitic clay. The mixed clay was compared to the two individual brick clays and one kaolinitic clay, whereby optimum calcination conditions were performed in large-scale simulating an industrial-scale production of SCMs. All calcined clays exhibited pozzolanic reactivity, with the performance of the brick clays inferior to the kaolinitic clay, however, the mixed clay performed very similar to the kaolinitic clay. At a similar degree of hydration compared to plain Portland cement, the good performance of the mixed clays was especially evident in the strength development and improved chloride penetration resistance, which was caused by a refinement in the pore structure in the cementitious systems. Moreover, it was deduced that not only the high surface area, but also, the solubility of Si and Al ions in the resulting calcinate of the mixed clays plays a significant role when calcined at ~600–700 °C, which points to viable options for optimal employment of brick clays in cementitious systems. N2 - Die bei der Zementproduktion freigesetzte CO2-Menge und die daraus resultierenden Folgen für das Klima machen die Entwicklung von Zementersatzstoffen mit geringerem CO2-Fußabdruck erforderlich. Als besonders vielversprechend haben sich dabei die kalzinierten Tone erwiesen. Bei diesen handelt es sich um komplexe Systeme, bestehend aus einer Vielzahl verschiedener Tonminerale in variierender Konzentration und Zusammensetzung. Während für kaolinitische Tone (basierend auf 1:1 Tonmineralarten) bereits umfangreiche Daten gesammelt werden konnten, ist der Kenntnisstand zu anderen Tonarten z.B. Ziegeltonen (basierend auf 2:1 Tonmineralarten) derzeit noch unzureichend. Besonders vor dem Hintergrund der erheblich größeren Verfügbarkeit dieser Tonarten stellt dies einen erheblichen Nachteil dar. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, anhand zweier Ziegeltone aus Deutschland, aufzuzeigen welche Auswirkung die unterschiedliche Zusammensetzung der Tone sowohl auf die Reaktivität als auch auf den Einsatz als Zementersatzstoffen in Mischzementsystemen hat. Entsprechende Änderungen in der Zusammensetzung der kalzinierten Tone wurden durch die Variation der Kalzinierungstemperatur im Temperaturbereich zwischen 650 °C und 900 °C bzw. 950 °C und den folglich unterschiedlich ablaufenden chemischen und physikalischen Umwandlungsprozessen der Tonminerale erreicht. Die Leistungsfähigkeit dieser Systeme wurde anhand der Wärme- und Festigkeitsentwicklung sowie den Dauerhaftigkeitseigenschaften bewertet. Als Referenzsysteme dienten zwei 1:1 Tone mit unterschiedlicher Zusammensetzung. Die bei den 1:1 Tonen erzielten Reaktivitäten waren im Vergleich zu den Ziegeltonen zwar höher, aber bei entsprechender Kalzinierungstemperatur und moderater Zementersatzrate konnten auch bei den Ziegeltonen vielversprechende Ergebnisse erzielt werden. Basierend auf diesen Ergebnissen wurden in einem weiteren Schritt Mischtone, bestehend aus kaolinitischem Ton und Ziegelton mit geringerem Fe2O3 Gehalt (50:50), untersucht. Zur Bewertung wurden die zuvor untersuchten Ziegeltone und ein 1:1 Ton herangezogen. Bei allen kalzinierten Tonen konnte die pozzolanische Reaktion nachgewiesen werden, wobei der Ziegelton die geringsten und die 1:1 Tone die höchsten Werte lieferte. Das Mischtonsysteme sind leistungstechnisch bei den 1:1 Tonen einzuordnen. Die strukturverfeinernde Wirkung des Mischtons beim Einsatz als Zementersatz in Portlandzementsystemen führte sowohl bei der Festigkeitsentwicklung als auch beim Chlorideindringwiderstand zu einer Leistungssteigerung. Zudem konnte gezeigt werden, dass nicht nur die große spezifische Oberfläche, sondern auch die hohe Löslichkeit der Si- und Al-Ionen in den Kalzinaten der bei ~600-700 °C kalzinierten Mischtone einen großen Einfluss hat und den Einsatz der Ziegeltone in zementären Systemen begünstigt. Die Möglichkeit zur Herstellung von Zementersatzstoffen im industriellen Maßstab konnte durch Versuche im Großmaßstab ebenfalls nachgewiesen werden. A novel method based on combustion duration time was proposed for the first time, with an emphasis on the determination of the limiting oxygen concentration (LOC). The values of LOC determined by the alternative method were almost consistent with those obtained by using the standardized overpressure method, where the LOCs were above 21.6%, 19.8%, and 13.2% for anthracite coal and 11.4%, 9.6%, and 9.0% for bituminous coal when the ignition energy is 2, 5, and 10 kJ, respectively. But the newly proposed method was found to be much less affected by the ignition energy compared with the standardized overpressure method, taking combustion duration time as an explosion criterion thus had a higher efficiency and required fewer experiments. The results also showed that as oxygen concentration decreases from 21.6% to 14.4%, the maximum explosion pressure decreases from 0.4334 MPa to 0.1034 MPa for anthracite coal and from 0.5664 MPa to 0.3981 MPa for bituminous coal, respectively. Moreover, the effect of ignition energy varied with varying volatile matter content and ignition mechanism of coal dusts. The higher the volatile content, the less sensitive it is to the ignition energy. It may pose a potential explosion hazard during the process of processing, storage, transport, and reduction/oxidation (redox). The explosion characteristics of iron dust in air were undertaken via a 20 L spherical explosion chamber with an emphasis on minimum explosion concentration (MEC) of iron dust. The alternative method of combustion duration time (tc) was used to determine MEC and compared with the standardized over pressure method. Two kinds of nano-sized iron oxides (Fe2O3 and Fe3O4) were used as inertants to determine the inhibition effect of different oxidation products. The iron dust explosion products with various shapes and sizes were found to be able to grow up 4–6 times of the iron dust for the first time. Adding small amount of Fe2O3 or Fe3O4 could reduce the explosion severity and sensitivity of iron dust. The MEC data determined by both methods were comparable. The addition of 5 % oxide has obvious inhibition effect under 1500 g/m3 concentration. With the increase of oxide concentration to 10 %, the inerting effect increases, and the MEC of iron dust increases more than 3 times. The increase of dust concentration will weaken the inerting effect. When the concentration increases from 500 g/m3 to 3000 g/m3, the weakening effect of 10 % Fe2O3 on the explosion pressure decreases from 38.45 % to 2.24 %, and 10 % Fe3O4 decreases from 46.21 % to 10.63 %. Unlike coal, biomass or aluminum dusts, the iron dust explosion was found to have a unique secondary acceleration of pressure rise rate for the first time. These results provide a fundamental basis to mitigate the iron dust explosion via solid inerting method without adding extra elements. Some low-frequency excitation of ground vibrations, typically between 10 and 30 Hz, cannot be found in the axle-box measurements. Therefore, other vehicle modes, such as rigid bogie modes, flexible carriage modes, rigid and flexible wheelset modes, have been analysed for additional excitation forces. These vehicle dynamics analyses give an explanation for higher axle-box results at high frequencies, but not for the excitation of the higher low-frequency ground-vibration component. Finally, the effect of the moving static train loads will be analysed. For a regular track and soil, the moving static train loads yield the quasi-static response which exists only in the low-frequency nearfield of the track. If the support stiffness is randomly varying along the track, the pulses on the track generate an additional low-frequency component which is called the irregular pulse responses. The most significant advantage of ER is the homogenization of all filaments in the yarn and full utilization of its tensile potential. Nevertheless, ER matrix is a critical part of TRC design from the perspective of the fire resistance due to its relatively low resistance at temperatures of approximately 120 C. This work expands the previously performed mechanical tests at normal temperatures with cement suspension (CS) as a non-combustible material for the yarn matrix. Here, the mechanical properties of CS matrix at elevated temperatures were verified. It was found that the addition of polypropylene fibers into HPC negatively affected the mechanical results of CS matrix specimens. Simultaneously, thermal insulation effect of the covering layers with different thicknesses did not significantly influence the residual bending strength of specimens with CS matrix and achieved similar results as reference specimens. Furthermore, all specimens with ER matrix progressively collapsed. Finally, CS as a textile reinforcement of yarn matrix appears to be a suitable solution for increasing the temperature resistance of TRC structures and for substituting synthetic resins. T2 - Chemical Engineering Transactions N2 - The self-ignition behaviour of bulks is usually determined with the aid of isoperibolic or adiabatic hot storage tests; the sample volumes here are typically in the range of approx. 100 cm³ to several litres. The extrapolation to technically relevant volumes holds, however, considerable uncertainties. To reduce these uncertainties, a test stand was set up that allows to investigation sample sizes of up to 1000 dm³. These allow the study of selfignition behavior closer to the conditions that prevail in practice. The suitability (or unsuitability) of the established methods (including dangerous goods classification tests) were to be demonstrated and influencing variables that cannot be measured on a laboratory scale were to be determined. In addition, various analytical methods were used for the determination of reaction kinetic data of solid bulk materials and to predict the self-ignition behaviour of large storages. These are thermal analyses such as differential scanning calorimetry DSC, simultaneous thermal analysis STA as well as microcalorimetry for highprecision measurement of heat flows. Complete test series using all mentioned test methods will be presented for crosslinked polyvinyl-pyrrolidone (PVP) and conclusions regarding the applicability of the extrapolation methods will be discussed. Hot storage tests up to semi-industrial scale and their combination with various thermoanalytical methods allow a much more precise prediction of the self-ignition behaviour of large bulks. A further promising approach to estimate their heat release rates, and hence, the risk of self-ignition under technical conditions, is the use of microcalorimetric methods. Due to slender cross-sections typically used for tension members, high demands are placed on the effectiveness and reliability of the intumescent coatings. This paper describes real-scale fire tests of intumescent coatings applied to steel tension members with circular solid and hollow sections. First, the current regulations for the application of intumescent coatings on steel tension members are discussed. After that, a comparison between the foaming behaviour and failure mechanisms of intumescent coatings applied to steel tension members with different cross-sections and loading conditions is given. Next, the experimental setup and procedure of the performed fire tests are presented. In addition, the influences of various parameters on the performance of the intumescent coating are analysed, including the geometry of the steel profile, dry film thickness of the intumescent coating, load utilisation level as well as the orientation of the member. Based on the theoretical considerations and results of the fire tests, it is evidenced that mechanically loaded fire tests are essential to assess accurately the contribution of intumescent fire protection coatings to the fire resistance of steel tension members with circular solid sections. Especially in the case of tension bars, where mostly circular or rectangular solid sections are used, intumescent coatings offer an efficient measure to improve the fire resistance taking advantage of profile-following application and low coating thickness requirements. Thus, the architectural appearance of slender profiles can be preserved. The paper describes real-scale mechanically loaded and unloaded fire tests of circular and rectangular solid steel tension bars with intumescent coating. The aim of these tests is to investigate the influence of the different profile types as well as different bar orientations on the performance of intumescent coatings. The results are used to specify a normative test and assessment procedure to be implemented in a new European standard for determining the contribution of intumescent coatings to the fire resistance of circular or rectangular bars used as tension members.
