TY - CONF A1 - Auersch, Lutz T1 - Zur Prognose von Erschütterungen aus Bahntunneln N2 - Zur Erschütterungsausbreitung an oberirdischen Bahnlinien gibt es gute Übereinstimmungen zwischen Messungen und der Theorie geschichteter Böden. Bei der Interpretation der Ergebnisse spielt die Rayleigh-Welle eine große Rolle. Je nach Frequenz und Wellenlänge hat die Rayleigh-Welle eine bestimmte Eindringtiefe und erreicht damit mehr oder weniger steife Bodenschichten. Damit bekommt man eine frequenzabhängige Bodensteifigkeit für die Erschütterungsprognose. Für die Wellenausbreitung in der Tiefe statt an der Bodenoberfläche müssen eigene Gesetzmäßigkeiten gefunden werden. Es werden die Punktlastlösungen im Frequenz-Wellenzahlbereich und durch Integration über die Wellenzahlen berechnet. Man erhält die Wellenfelder, die Terzspektren für verschiedene Entfernungen und Frequenzen. Es wird die Tiefenlage und das Bodenmodell (homogen, geschichtet und kontinuierlich zunehmende Steifigkeit) variiert. Die Rayleigh-Welle verliert ihre Bedeutung und stattdessen kann die Vollraumlösung zur Interpretation und Prognose verwendet werden. Es werden die Halbraumlösung mit und ohne Rayleigh-Welle und die Vollraumlösung in der Tiefe diskutiert und verglichen. Neben der Wellenausbreitung (der Transmission) werden auch Effekte der Erschütterungsanregung (der Emission) und der Übertragung in Gebäude (der Immission) mit Hilfe der Finite-Element-Randelement-Methode berechnet. Die Verteilung der dynamischen Achslast durch die Tunnelsohle ergibt eine Minderung gegenüber der Punktlastanregung. Bei der Immission hat man keine Freifeldanregung wie an der Bodenoberfläche. Man muss entweder neben der Wellenamplitude (Verschiebung oder Schwinggeschwindigkeit) in der Tiefe auch die Spannung der ankommenden Welle berücksichtigen, oder man muss die Freifeldamplituden nach Bodenaushub berechnen. Die Rechenergebnisse deuten darauf hin, dass man als Freifeldanregung die zweifache Vollraumlösung ansetzen kann. The degradation of flame retardance is investigated in two kinds of exposures, artificial weathering and humidity. In this basic study, typical mineral flame retardants in two polymers frequently used in cable jackets are investigated to get the fundamental picture. Aluminum hydroxide (ATH) and magnesium hydroxide (MDH) are compared in ethylene‐vinyl acetate (EVA), and further in EVA and linear low‐density polyethylene (LLDPE) cables containing the same ATH. The changes in chemical structure at the surface are studied through attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR‐FTIR), the formation of cracks, and changes in color are investigated. The cone calorimeter and a bench scale fire testing cable module are utilized to evaluate the fire behavior of the cables. Although the flame retardancy deteriorated slightly, it survived harsh exposure conditions for 2000 h. Compared to EVA/MDH and LLDPE/ATH, the fire behavior of EVA/ATH is the least sensitive. Taken together, all of the results converge to estimate that there will be no problem with flame retardancy performance, for materials subjected to natural exposure for several years; the durability of fire retardancy is questionable for longer periods, and thus requires further investigation. In this study, the coatings are intended for humid indoor applications on steel substrates. The coating contains ammonium polyphosphate, pentaerythritol, melamine, and polyvinyl acetate. By replacing each ingredient with a less water-soluble substance, the most vulnerable substances, polyvinyl acetate and pentaerythritol, were identified. Furthermore, the weathering resistance of the system was improved by exchanging the ingredients. The coatings were stressed by artificial weathering tests and evaluated by fire tests. Thermogravimetry and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy were used to study the thermal decomposition. This study lays the foundation for the development of a new generation of water-based intumescent coatings. T1 - Composite Facade Elements with Self-Cleaning Surface made of Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) N2 - In the framework of the European project H-House various concrete façade elements were developed with the aim to ensure a long service life by combining a very durable material with self-cleaning properties. The façade elements presented are made of a shell of UHPC filled with blocks of aerated autoclaved concrete as insulating material. Self-cleaning properties were realized amongst others by imprinting a microstructure into the surface during casting. The paper focuses on selected technological aspects of the manufacturing process of prototypes which had to be performed in two concreting sections. Furthermore the challenges faced when upscaling the self-cleaning properties are addressed and the strategy to assess the self-cleaning properties by measuring the contact and the roll-off angel is presented. The results show that a successfull upscalaing process requires detailed planning and that the best results can often be achieved with a moderate work effort or material use. This ground vibration component cannot be well explained by dynamic loads of the train. Many characteristics indicate that the axle impulses, which are scattered by an irregular soil, are the excitation. This new understanding of railway-induced ground vibration is verified by numerical analysis. The response of the regular homogeneous and irregular inhomogeneous soils has been calculated by the finite-element method in frequency domain. A specific superposition of the impulse responses has been invented including time shift, axle sequence, track filter and hanning filter. The superposition yields the quasi-static component of the ground vibration which is restricted to very low frequencies and to the close near-field of the track. In case of an irregular soil of which the stiffness varies randomly in space, the superposition yields a mid-frequency ground vibration component from the scattering of the axle impulses. The existence and the importance of this component can thus be demonstrated by the calculations. Some rules of the influence of distance, train speed, soil stiffness, strength and width of the stiffness variation have been derived from the calculations. Many measurements show the unique explanation of the mid-frequency ground vibration component by the scattered axle impulses. Er eignet sich somit gut für den baulichen Brandschutz. Jedoch neigt Beton im Brandfall zu explosionsartigen Abplatzungen, die zu einer Reduzierung des tragfähigen Querschnitts und sogar zum Versagen des Bauteils führen können. Derzeit werden thermomechanische und thermohydraulische Schädigungsprozesse als die zwei maßgeblichen Ursachen für explosionsartige Abplatzungen angesehen. Diese Schädigungsprozesse sind unter anderem abhängig von der Prüfkörpergröße, dem Wasser-Zement-Wert, der Porosität, der Permeabilität und dem Bewehrungsgrad des Bauteils. Im Rahmen des Vortrags werden die Forschungsarbeiten zum Maßstabseffekt des Abplatzverhaltens von Betonen bei Brandbeanspruchung präsentiert. Zu diesem Zweck wurden Betonprüfkörper aus sechs verschiedenen Betonmischungen in jeweils drei Prüfkörpergrößen einseitig, ohne Behinderung der thermischen Ausdehnung und ohne externe Last im Tunnelbrandprüfstand der BAM untersucht. Dieser unikale Prüfstand ermöglicht die Brandprüfung unterschiedlicher Prüfkörpergrößen unter vergleichbaren Brandbedingungen sowie die simultane Prüfung mehrerer kleinformatiger Betonprüfkörper. Das präsentierte, laufende Promotionsvorhaben basiert auf einem von der DFG geförderten Forschungsvorhaben und darauf aufbauenden Folgeuntersuchungen. Die Ergebnisse des DFG-Vorhabens zeigen einen deutlichen Maßstabseffekt mit einer starken Verringerung der Abplatztiefen bei einer Reduzierung der Prüfkörpergröße. Des Weiteren ist das Abplatzverhalten stark von der Betonmischung abhängig. Vor dem Hintergrund der Ressourcenschonung und Kostenreduzierung verfolgen die auf dem DFG-Vorhaben aufbauenden Untersuchungen das Ziel, das Abplatzverhalten großformatiger Betonprüfkörper durch kleinformatige Betonprüfkörper mit angepassten Randbedingungen nachzustellen. Hierfür wurden zwei Betonmischungen des DFG-Vorhabens verwendet. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass durch eine Anpassung der Versuchsrandbedingungen dem Maßstabseffekt entgegengewirkt werden kann. T2 - 7. T1 - Application limits and sensitisation behaviour of the manganese- and nitrogen-alloyed austenitic stainless steel P2000 (X13CrMnMoN18-14-3) N2 - Nickel‐free high‐nitrogen‐alloyed stainless steels like the P2000 (X13CrMnMoN18‐14‐3) were developed to enhance the strength and corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steels like 304 and 316 while keeping the typical high ductility. The mechanical and corrosive properties of P2000 were investigated and compared with 304 and 316 to highlight the application opportunities of this new alloy. The microstructure of the solution‐annealed condition was characterised by electron backscatter diffraction and the mechanical properties were studied by uniaxial tensile tests, Charpy impact tests and hardness measurements. The passivation behaviour was analysed using the electrochemical potentiodynamic reactivation, whereas the pitting corrosion resistance was compared by pitting potentials and pitting temperatures. However, secondary thermal influences or suboptimal heat treatment can impair the corrosion resistance due to the precipitation of secondary phases and the resulting sensitisation. Thermodynamic calculations and artificial ageing treatment in the range of 500–900°C for up to 100 h were used to determine critical time–temperature parameters for sensitisation. The microstructure of the various aged states was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy and compared with the degrading corrosion resistance characterised by the KorroPad method. Die Produkte eigenen sich besonders aufgrund der profilfolgenden Applikationsmöglichkeit und der vergleichsweise geringen Beschichtungsdicken. Bei einer Brandbeanspruchung schäumt das RBS auf und bildet eine thermische Schutzschicht um das Stahlprofil aus. Dadurch wird die Erwärmung des Stahls verlangsamt und der temperaturbedingte Festigkeitsverlust verzögert, wodurch sich die Feuerwiderstandsdauer des Stahlbauteils verbessert. Aus Brandversuchen ist bekannt, dass die Leistungsfähigkeit von RBS auf Stahlprofilen mit gekrümmter Oberfläche meist schlechter ausfällt als bei vergleichbaren Bauteilen mit ebener Oberfläche. Zum Einfluss der Oberflächenkrümmung auf die thermische Schutzwirkung von RBS werden in dem folgenden Beitrag sowohl theoretische Hintergründe als auch die Ergebnisse aus Brandversuchen an kleinformatigen Probekörpern vorgestellt. Die systematischen Untersuchungen zeigen, dass mit zunehmender Oberflächenkrümmung die Leistungsfähigkeit des RBS tendenziell abnimmt. Bei der Beurteilung der thermischen Schutzwirkung eines RBS sollte die Oberflächenkrümmung eines Bauteils berücksichtigt werden. Die alleinige Fokussierung auf den Profilfaktor eines Stahlprofils ist im Allgemeinen nicht ausreichend. Die Untersuchungen bilden die Grundlage für die Entwicklung von Screening-Tests zur Beurteilung der Eignung von RBS für gekrümmte Oberflächen, wodurch eine Vorauswahl von Produkten für diesen Einsatzzweck ermöglicht wird. N2 - Intumescent fire protection coatings, also referred to as reactive fire protection systems, are often used to protect steel components from heating up too quickly in the event of a fire. The products are particularly suitable due to profile-following application as well as the comparatively low coating thickness. If exposed to fire, the intumescent coating foams up and forms a thermal protective layer around the steel profile. This slows down the heating of the steel and delays the temperature-related loss of strength, which improves the fire resistance of the steel component. From fire tests it is known that the performance of intumescent coatings on steel profiles with a curved surface is usually worse than on comparable components with a flat surface. The following article presents the theoretical background as well as the results from fire tests on small-scale specimens to show the influence of surface curvature on the thermal protective effect of intumescent fire protection coatings. The systematic investigations show that with increasing surface curvature, the performance of the intumescent coating tends to decrease. When assessing the thermal protective effect of an intumescent coating, the surface curvature of a steel component should be considered. Focusing solely on the profile factor of a steel profile is generally not sufficient. The research forms the basis for the development of screening tests to assess the suitability of intumescent coatings for curved surfaces, enabling a pre-selection of products for this application. T1 - Use of Cement Suspension as an Alternative Matrix Material for Textile-Reinforced Concrete N2 - Textile-reinforced concrete (TRC) is a material consisting of high-performance concrete (HPC) and tensile reinforcement comprised of carbon roving with epoxy resin matrix. However, the problem of low epoxy resin resistance at higher temperatures persists. In this work, an alternative to the epoxy resin matrix, a non-combustible cement suspension (cement milk) which has proven stability at elevated temperatures, was evaluated. In the first part of the work, microscopic research was carried out to determine the distribution of particle sizes in the cement suspension. Subsequently, five series of plate samples differing in the type of cement and the method of textile reinforcement saturation were designed and prepared. Mechanical experiments (four-point bending tests) were carried out to verify the properties of each sample type. It was found that the highest efficiency of carbon roving saturation was achieved by using finer ground cement (CEM 52.5) and the pressure saturation method. Moreover, this solution also exhibited the best results in the four-point bending test. Finally, the use of CEM 52.5 in the cement matrix appears to be a feasible variant for TRC constructions that could overcome problems with its low temperature resistance. In recent years, this construction material has been subjected to detailed examination. Different combinations of materials for potential use in textile-reinforced concrete have been described. These differ in the type of concrete mix and the composition of the textile reinforcement. The aim of this work is to test the application of a specific textile-reinforced concrete, consisting of high-performance concrete, textile reinforcement from carbon fibers and its epoxy resin matrix, at an elevated temperature. The combination of these materials makes it possible to produce subtle load–bearing structures with excellent mechanical properties. The critical issue is the behavior of these structures when exposed to fire. A series of medium-scale fire condition experiments were carried out with a temperature load based on the ISO 834 curve, followed up by mechanical tests. The aim of these experiments was to describe critical areas of textile-reinforced concrete in fire and to propose possible solutions. In an indicative fire experiment, experimental samples displayed massive spall of concrete layers, and interaction between materials was lost due to the low temperature resistance of the epoxy resin. Concurrently, the optimal quantity of polypropylene fibers was experimentally determined. This paper presents an experimental demonstration of the problematic aspects of textile-reinforced concrete and subsequent recommendations for future work with practical application in the design of load–bearing structures. The heat and mass flux control the intensity of fire and the ablation of fuel. Indeed, the temperature profile as a function of time may be one of the most important responses of a specimen to understand its burning behavior. Further, several physical phenomena, such as the heat absorption of the materials, thermal conductivity, and also melt flow and dripping, play a major role in determining ignition, flammability, and fire behavior. The burning of a polymer is very complex. The various phenomena interact with each other, e. g., pyrolysis also influences the viscosity of the melt, and, thus, whether dripping or charring results in a protective layer, increasing the shielding effect of the residual protective layer. Only a detailed and comprehensive description opens the door to a well-founded understanding of the burning behavior of polymeric materials. Hammer impacts and train passages have been analysed. Measurements have been performed by geophones (velocity transducers) which have been time-integrated to displacements. The calculations are done in frequency-wavenumber domain for multi-beam-on-continuous soil models. The characteristics of the different tracks and track elements have been established in theory and experiment. The frequency-dependent compliances (displacement transfer functions) show clear rail-on-rail-pad resonances or highly damped track-soil resonances. Compared to the rail and sleeper, the track plate has much lower amplitudes. The slab track has usually the highest rail amplitudes due to soft rail pads. The train passage yields track displacements which are a superposition of the axle loads from the two neighbouring axles of a bogie and from the two bogies of two neighbouring carriages. This global behaviour is characteristic for the track plate of the slab track whereas the rails of the slab and the ballast track behave more local with only one bogie of influence. The measurements agree very well with the theory of the continuous soil in case of the six measured slab tracks and acceptably well for the six measured ballast tracks. The measurements allow to find appropriate model parameters and to check the models, for example the Winkler model of the soil has been found less appropriate as it reacts more locally. SBB has initiated a series of examinations using different methodologies to gain a deeper understanding of the excitation mechanisms at low frequencies, in addition to that obtained in the RIVAS project. To date it is not yet clear what constitutes a complete measurement data set that would enable understanding most of the vibration excitation mechanisms in turnouts. Increasing vibration at turnouts in comparison to normal track is observed for all measured frequencies. The different methodologies are presented in the paper. Under-sleeper pads (USP) are a cost-effective method to reduce vibration at frequencies above 63 Hz (1/3 octave), but there is probably no improvement for frequencies below 63 Hz. A first test of new frog geometry did not show relevant improvements in Vibration emission in comparison to a reference frog geometry. Axle box acceleration measurements are an interesting method to identify defects in a turnout. The effects on EP are compared with those of the monomer DOPO-HQ and triphenylphosphine oxide (OPPh3) as low molar mass flame retardants. The glass transition temperature, thermal decomposition, flammability (reaction to small flame), and burning behavior of the thermosets are investigated using differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, pyrolysis combustion flow calorimetry, UL 94-burning chamber testing, and cone calorimeter measurements. Although P-contents are low at only 0.6 wt%, the study aims not at attaining V-0, but at presenting a proof of principle: Epoxy resinswith PDTT show promising fire performance, exhibiting a 25% reduction in total heat evolved (THE), a 30% reduction in peak heat release rate (PHRR) due to flame inhibition (21% reduction in effective heat of combustion (EHC)), and an increase in Tg at the same time. This study indicates that rigid aromatic hyperbranched polymeric structures offer a promising route toward multifunctional flame retardancy. Zunächst wurde das Brandverhalten der Klebebänder adressiert und anschließend der Einfluss jenes Brandverhaltens auf Brandeigenschaften von entsprechend geklebten Verbunden analysiert. Im Bezug auf die Entflammbarkeit besitzt das Klebeband im Inneren eines Klebverbundes nur einen geringen Einfluss auf das Brandverhalten und die Eigenschaften des Substrates dominieren. Im sich entwickelnden Brand, hier simuliert durch das Cone Calorimeter, sind deutliche Unterschiede zwischen massivem und geklebten Bauteil zu erkennen. The mechanical properties (tensile strength and compression stress) of the foams were investigated. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) coupled with Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) were conducted to evaluate the pyrolysis; limiting oxygen index (LOI), UL 94 and cone calorimeter were performed to analyze the fire performance of the foams; smoke density chamber was used to investigate the smoke released during burning. When 10-wt.% of EG was used, the flame retardancy of the foams was much enhanced due to the synergistic effect between phosphorus and EG. The char yield was three times higher (54wt.%). The fire load MARHE approached 100 kWm−2, half of the value expected for a superposition. The combination of phosphorous polyols and EG is proposed as strategy for future flame retarded FPUFs. The heat release rate (HRR) is the most important fire parameter to analyze the fire hazards of burning objects, so that an accurate determination of it is crucial. In this paper, two different measurement techniques, the Oxygen Consumption Calorimetry (OCC) and the Sensible Enthalpy Rise Approach (SERA) are simultaneously performed in the same calorimeter to measure the HRR of two different types of lithium-ion batteries. HRR values as well as total energies determined by SERA are higher than measured with OCC: The total energy released is about 10–12 times (SERA) and 6–9.5 times (OCC) the electrical stored energy for both battery types, whereas the timescales of the release differ strongly between the types, resulting in maximum HRRs of 3.4 MW (SERA) and 1.5 MW (OCC) for one module of type A and 0.8 MW (SERA) and 0.6 (OCC) of type B respectively. Furthermore, a sensitive dependency of the HRR measurement with SERA on the position of the wall temperature measurement is observed. The flame retardancy of FPUFs were evaluated by limiting oxygen index (LOI), vertical burning and cone calorimetry tests, and the results indicated the structure-flame retardancy relationship of EDPs. Among these EDPs, P-(diethoxymethyl)-N-phenylphosphonamidate (EDPPA) exhibited the best flame retardant effect, methyl 3-((diethoxymethyl)(ethoxy)phosphoryl)propanoate (EDPMA) the second, and ethyl phenyl (di-ethoxymethyl)phosphonate (EDPPO) the worst. When the incorporation of EDPPA was 10 wt%, the FPUFs could self-extinguish and pass the vertical burning test. Meanwhile, the LOI value of FPUF-PA increased to 23.6% with 20 wt% loading of flame retardant. According to the investigation of volatiles during the thermal degradation of FPUFs and the morphologies of char residues after cone test, we inferred the pos- sible flame retardant mechanism. The results indicated that EDPs could release phosphorus-containing compounds in the gas phase, which would generate phosphorus-containing radicals and play the role of radical scavenger. In the condensed phase, EDPs can promote the formation of dense, intact and thermal stably char layer on the surface of FPUFs. Moreover, we found that the structure influence on flame retardancy was attributed to the atoms linked to the central phosphorus. Our results indicate that these EDPs are promising flame retardants in FPUFs that can be applied to improve the flame retardancy of FPUFs in various practical applications. T1 - Improving bio-oil chemical profile of seaweeds through anaerobic fermentation pre-treatment N2 - Biomass pre-treatments for bio-oil quality improvement are mainly based on thermal and chemical methods which are costly and hence reduce the sustainability of pyrolysis-based refineries. In this paper, anaerobic digestion (AD) and dark fermentation (DF) are proposed as alternative ‘green’ pre-treatments to improve this situation. For this purpose, three seaweeds namely Sargassum polycystum, (Phaephyta), Gracilaria tenuistipitata, (Rhodophyta) and Ulva reticulata, (Chlorophyta) with high ash and oxygen contents were pre-treated to improve their composition and structure prior to pyrolysis. The results reveal that both biological pre-treatments affected, positively, the composition and structure of the seaweed biomass with AD pre-treatment reducing N and S contents by 86% and 63%, respectively. DF was more efficient in terms of ash and moisture reduction with 25% and 70%, respectively. In addition, oxygen (O) reduction by 27% was observed after DF which was evidenced by FTIR spectroscopy indicating the reduction of most oxygen-containing functional groups in the biomass. On the other hand, the carbon (C) content increased in DF pre-treated seaweeds up to 42%, almost two times higher relative content than C in the raw seaweed. The changes in the composition of pre-treated seaweeds resulted in changes in their thermal degradation and the volatile profiles produced during pyrolysis. Interestingly, anhydrosugars and furans which account for some 70% (by area) in raw seaweeds markedly declined or become undetectable after DF pre-treatment and correspondingly more acetic acid and hydrocarbons were produced while after AD more aromatics with high toluene content (ca.17%) were generated. The results indicate that biooil with profiles more similar to petroleum-based composition i.e. rich in hydrocarbons and low in anhydrosugars, N and S can be generated by AD and DF pre-treatments and opens up the possibility of these approaches to effect cost reduction in the overall generation of bio-based fuels. Das dort verankerte Nachweisverfahren beruht auf einem globalen Sicherheitskonzept, welches aus zuverlässigkeitstheoretischer Sicht nicht mehr dem Stand der Technik entspricht. Auf Grund dessen wird das Bemessungskonzept für Lehmmauerwerk vom Deutschen Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt) voraussichtlich 2023 außer Kraft gesetzt. Ein statischer Nachweis von tragenden Lehmbauten wäre in Deutschland dann ausschließlich mit einer Zustimmung im Einzelfall (ZiE) oder vorhabenbezogener Bauartgenehmigung (vBg) möglich. Beides ist mit erheblichem Mehraufwand und höheren Kosten verbunden, was für den Lehmmauerwerksbau einen entscheidenden Nachteil im Vergleich zum konventionellen Mauerwerksbau darstellt. Um eine unkomplizierte Praxisanwendung von Lehmmauerwerk zu ermöglichen, werden innerhalb eines Forschungsvorhabens, welches von der Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM), dem Institut für Massivbau der Technischen Universität Darmstadt sowie dem Ingenieurbüro ZRS durchgeführt wird, auf Basis der Produktnormen für Lehmsteine und Lehmmauermörtel Grundlagen für ein aktualisiertes Bemessungskonzept entwickelt. Im Rahmen des Projekts wird ebenfalls untersucht, inwiefern die Bemessungsregeln nach den vereinfachten Berechnungsmethoden für unbewehrtes Mauerwerk gemäß DIN EN 1996-3 / NA auf den Lehmmauerwerksbau übertragbar sind. Falls eine Anwendung des normativen Nachweisverfahrens bei Lehmmauerwerk möglich ist, wäre zukünftig eine Aufnahme von Lehmsteinen und Lehmmauermörtel in den nationalen Anhang des Eurocode 6 denkbar, was eine bedeutsame Erweiterung des Anwendungsbereichs von Lehmmauerwerk zur Folge hätte. Diverse wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen konnten zeigen, dass bemessungsrelevante Festigkeits- und Verformungseigenschaften von Lehmmauerwerksbaustoffen stark von der vorherrschenden Materialfeuchte abhängen, welche im hygroskopischen Wassergehaltsbereich im Wesentlichen von der relativen Luftfeuchte (RLF) bestimmt wird. Auch die Zwischenergebnisse des laufenden Forschungsvorhabens zur Entwicklung eines Bemessungskonzepts für Lehmmauerwerk ergaben eine deutlich erkennbare Abhängigkeit zwischen der Materialfeuchte und den relevanten Festigkeits- und Verformungseigenschaften. Eine detaillierte Kenntnis des feuchteabhängigen Materialverhaltens von Lehmsteinen, -mörtel und -mauerwerk ist zwingend erforderlich, um ein konsistentes und zuverlässiges Bemessungskonzept für Lehmmauerwerk zu entwickeln. Im Rahmen des laufenden Forschungsprojektes werden deshalb umfangreiche Versuche zum Drucktragverhalten von Lehmsteinen und -mörtel sowie Lehmmauerwerk nach Konditionierung bei unterschiedlichen RLF durchgeführt und analysiert. Weiterhin werden auf Basis der experimentellen Ergebnisse numerische Modelle kalibriert, welche die detaillierte Analyse der Biegedrucktragfähigkeit von Lehmmauerwerk ermöglichen. In diesem Beitrag werden zunächst die bisherigen Zwischenergebnisse bezüglich der experimentell ermittelten feuchteabhängigen Materialkennwerte von Lehmsteinen, -mörtel und -mauerwerk dargelegt. Darauf aufbauend werden numerische Untersuchungen zur Bestimmung der Systemtragfähigkeit von Lehmmauerwerk unter Feuchteeinflusses durchgeführt und erläutert. N2 - The structural design of load-bearing earthen masonry in Germany is based on the Lehmbau Regeln. The verification procedure outlined in these regulations is based on a global safety concept that no longer corresponds to the state of the art from a reliability theory perspective. As a result, the structural design concept for earthen masonry will most likely be discontinued by the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt) in 2023. A structural verification of load-bearing earthen buildings would then only be possible in Germany with an approval for individual cases (ZiE) or a project-related permit type (vBg). Both methods are associated with considerable additional work and higher costs, which is a decisive disadvantage for earthen masonry construction compared to conventional masonry construction. In order to enable a straightforward practical application of earthen masonry, the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), the Institute for Solid Construction of the Technical University of Darmstadt and ZRS Engineers are laying the groundwork for an updated structural design concept based on the product standards for earth blocks and earthen masonry mortar. The project will also investigate the extent to which the design rules based on the simplified calculation methods for unreinforced masonry according to DIN EN 1996-3 / NA can be transferred to earthen masonry construction. If the normative verification procedure can be applied to earthen masonry, it would be conceivable to include earth blocks and earthen masonry mortar in the national appendix of Eurocode 6 in the future, which would result in a significant expansion of the field of application of earthen masonry. Various scientific studies have shown that the strength and deformation properties of earthen masonry building materials relevant to structural design are strongly dependent on the prevailing material moisture level, which is essentially determined by the relative humidity (RH) in the hygroscopic water content range. The interim results of the current research project for the development of a structural design concept for earthen masonry also showed a clearly recognisable dependency between the material moisture level and the relevant strength and deformation properties. Detailed knowledge of the moisture-dependent material behaviour of earth blocks, earthen mortar and masonry is absolutely essential to developing a consistent and reliable structural design concept for earthen masonry. Within the framework of the current research project, extensive tests on the pressure load bearing capacity of earth blocks and earthen mortar as well as earthen masonry after conditioning at different RH levels are therefore being carried out and analysed. Furthermore, numerical models are being calibrated on the basis of the experiment results, which facilitate a detailed analysis of the bending pressure bearing capacity of earthen masonry. The intensity of the resonance will be estimated in frequency domain by using three separated spectra. At first, the excitation spectrum of the modal forces is built by the mode shape and the passage time of the train over the bridge. The second spectrum is the frequency response function of the bridge which include the modal frequency, damping and mass. The third part is the spectrum of the axle sequence of the train. The influences of train speed, bridge length, bridge support, track irregularities, and train type on the resonance amplitudes will be analysed for each of these spectra separately for getting a better insight. A variety of axle-sequence spectra and corresponding rules will be presented for different vehicles and trains. As examples, the passage of a slow freight train over a long-span bridge, a normal passenger train over a medium-span bridge, and a high-speed train over a short bridge will be analysed. Corresponding measurements show the amplification, but also the cancellation of the subsequent axle responses. Namely in one of the measurement examples, the first mode of the bridge was amplified and the second mode was cancelled at a low speed of the train and vice versa at a higher speed. The mechanical properties of the FPUFs were evaluated by a universal testing machine. The pyrolysis behaviors and the evolved gas analysis were done by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and TGA coupled with Fourier-transform infrared (TG-FTIR), respectively. The fire behaviors were studied by limiting oxygen index (LOI), UL 94 test for horizontal burning of cellular materials (UL 94 HBF), and cone calorimeter measurement. Scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) was used to examine the cellular structure's morphology and the postfire char residue of the FPUFs. LOI and UL 94 HBF tests of all the flame retarded samples show improved flame retardancy. BDMPP plays an essential role in the gas phase because it significantly reduces the effective heat of combustion (EHC). This study highlights the synergistic effect caused by the combination of BDMPP and EG. The measured char yield from TGA is greater than the sum of individual effects. No dripping phenomenon occurs during burning for FPUF-BDMPP-EGs, as demonstrated by the result of the UL 94 HBF test. EG performs excellently on smoke suppression during burning, as evident in the result of the cone calorimeter test. MA reduces the peak heat release rate (pHRR) significantly. The synergistic effect of the combination of BDMPP and EG as well as MA offers an approach to enhance flame retardancy and smoke suppression. T1 - Simulation of the burning and dripping cables in fire using the particle finite element method N2 - The behavior of the cable jacket in fire characterized by the tendency to melt and drip constitutes a major source of fire hazard. The reason is that the melted material may convey the flame from one point to another, expanding fire and contributing to the fire load. In this article, the capability of a new computational strategy based on the particle finite element method for simulating a bench-scale cables burning test is analyzed. The use bench-scale test has been previously used to simulate the full-scale test described in EN 50399. As the air effect is neglected, a simple combustion model is included. The samples selected are two cables consisting of a copper core and differently flame retarded thermoplastic polyurethane sheets. The key modeling parameters were determined from different literature sources as well as experimentally. During the experiment, the specimen was burned under the test set-up condition recording the process and measuring the temperature evolution by means of three thermocouples. Next, the test was reproduced numerically and compared with a real fire test. The numerical results show that the particle finite element method can accurately predict the evolution of the temperature and the melting of the jacket. In this study, three digestates from A. nodosum C.linum and L. digitata were separated into liquid and solid fractions to investigate the production of high value added chemicals through pyrolysis using Pyrolysis Gas Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy (Py-GC/MS) while the filtered liquid fractions were tested as an alternative culture media to grow C. sorokiniana under mixotrophic conditions. The digestates showed different thermal degradation and an improvement of bio-oil profiles compared to the starter material. Pyrolyzates from raw macroalgae were characterized by a high anhydrosugar content in contrast to high aromatics observed in the case of their digestates. Toluene, benzofuran and vinylphenol, base chemicals for many industries, represented together 30–37% of the total chemicals produced during pyrolysis of the three macroalgae digestate. On the other hand, C. sorokiniana cultured on digestate-based media showed a higher lipid content with an increase in monounsaturated fatty acids and a lower poly-unsaturated fatty acid content in comparison to microalgae grown in standard tris-acetate-phosphate media. Thus, the acyl composition was shifted in a direction more suitable for biodiesel production by this process. In addition, the increase of Chemical Oxygen Demand and Volatile Fatty Acids concentration in the digestate was found to reduce ammonium toxicity. Finally, 94% of Chemical Oxygen Demand and 83% of ammonium were removed by microalgae from the digestate-based media which will reduce the pollution risk of the biorefinery. Overall, the results indicate that using macroalgae solid digestates can generate improvements in the quality of products obtained by pyrolysis and the liquid digestate can positively influence microalgae growth and its products. T1 - Towards defining reasonable minimum composition thresholds – Impacts of variable CO2 stream compositions on transport, injection and storage N2 - To set up recommendations on how to define “reasonable minimum composition thresholds” for CO2 streams to access CO2 pipeline networks, we investigated potential impacts of CO2 streams with different and temporally variable compositions and mass flow rates along the CCS chain. All investigations were based on a generic “CCS cluster scenario” in which CO2 streams captured from a spatial cluster of eleven emitters (seven fossil-fired power plants, two cement plants, one refinery and one steel mill) are collected in a regional pipeline network. The resulting CO2 stream (19.78 Mio t impure CO2 per year) is transported in a trunk line (onshore and offshore) and injected into five generic replicate storage structures (Buntsandstein saline aquifers) offshore. Experimental investigations and modeling of selected impacts revealed beneficial as well as adverse impacts of different impurities and their combinations. Overall, no fundamental technical obstacles for transporting, injecting and storing CO2 streams of the considered variable compositions and mass flow rates were observed. We recommend to define minimum composition thresholds for each specific CCS project through limiting i) the overall CO2 content, ii) maximum contents of relevant impurities or elements, iii) acceptable variability of concentrations of critical impurities, and defining impurity combinations to be avoided. The most important and most accepted excitation are the dynamic wheel loads from the passage over track irregularities. Dynamic wheel loads will be compared from parallel axle-box and ground vibration measurements at more than seven sites. Some low-frequency excitation of ground vibrations, typically between 10 and 30 Hz, cannot be found in the axle-box measurements. Therefore, other vehicle modes, such as rigid bogie modes, flexible carriage modes, rigid and flexible wheelset modes, have been analysed for additional excitation forces. These vehicle dynamics analyses give an explanation for higher axle-box results at high frequencies, but not for the excitation of the higher low-frequency ground-vibration component. Finally, the effect of the moving static train loads will be analysed. For a regular track and soil, the moving static train loads yield the quasi-static response which exists only in the low-frequency nearfield of the track. If the support stiffness is randomly varying along the track, the pulses on the track generate an additional low-frequency component which is called the irregular pulse responses. This component will be demonstrated by numerical analysis where all axle pulses are superposed in frequency domain. Compressive strength and Young’s modulus were investigated after conditioning in varying relative humidity reaching from 40 % up to 95 %. The material composition and physical properties were investigated to understand the influence of relative humidity onto the mechanical properties. A normalisation of strength and stiffness by the values obtained at 23 ◦C and 50 % relative humidity reveals a linear dependence of compressive strength and Young’s modulus that is regardless of the material composition. Thus, it is possible to describe the influence of relative humidity onto the load-bearing behaviour of unstabilised earth masonry materials in a generally valid formulation. Materials were characterized multi-methodically, flame retardant modes of action quantified, decomposition mechanism proposed, and synergisms explained. Considering the large quantities of leather waste (LW) in industrial-scale production, we underline LW as multifunctional bio-adjuvants. LW enhances the flame retardancy of poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate) (EVA) containing phosphorus flame retardants (P-FR). Products/by-products of the invertebrate and vertebrate farming, respectively, are promising bio-based adjuvants in flame retarded bio-epoxy thermosets. While the addition of bone meal yields the formation of an inorganic shield, protein-based powders from insects provide an intumescent behavior. Different biomass fillers sourced from the cultivation of the mealworm beetle Tenebrio molitor are embedded in a bioepoxy resin cured with tannic acid and investigated regarding the fire performance of the thermosets. By means of spectroscopic and thermal analysis (attenuated total reflectance FTIR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis-coupled FTIR spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry), the influence of the biomass microparticles on the curing and thermal degradation behavior is evaluated. Providing a high charring efficiency in the specific tannic acid-based epoxy matrix, the protein-rich adult beetle is further investigated in combination with commercial environmentally benign flame retardants in view of its potential as an adjuvant. For this purpose, the angle of repose is currently used for the UN approvals in Germany. Measurements were carried out on 12 powdery or granular substances applying the angle of repose measuring methods customary in the test centres. The results of the methods differ significantly from each other. In addition, some of the techniques cannot be applied for very cohesive or coarse-grained materials. The results for the angle of repose show a strong scatter for some constellations (coefficient of variation more than 20 %). Safety during transport of dangerous goods cannot be guaranteed with this currently practiced system of measuring the angle of repose. As a consequence, an alternative parameter to characterize the flow properties of bulk materials should be used in the recognized test centers for dangerous goods packagings, such as the Hausner ratio. This approach leads to more precise test results for the substances examined (maximum coefficient of variation 2.8 %). It also has advantages in terms of applicability and occupational safety. Since the flow properties are safety-relevant, both in terms of mechanical safety and safety against the release of dangerous substances, the testing practice in the recognized test labs should be improved and standardized. A systematic investigation on the burning behavior of PSA tapes as free-standing films, as top layers on different substrates and as sandwich-like adhesive joints was performed. The burning behavior of free-standing PSA tapes and those used as a coating was significantly improved by using phosphorus-based flame retardants. Furthermore, it was shown that, depending on tape structure and substrate, the PSA tape can lower the fire risk by acting as an intermediate protection layer in bonded materials. Although geometric irregularities at the wheel-rail contact are widely used, other types of irregularities, such as stiffness irregularities, irregularities from different track positions and irregularities in the wave propagation, were analysed in the present study. The track behaviour was investigated by a multi-beam-on-soil model. This track model is coupled with a vehicle model to calculate the vehicle–track interaction. The track model was also used for the track filtering, which transfers a track support error to the equivalent rail irregularity or, conversely, the sharp axle pulse on the rail to a smoother pulse on the soil. In the case in which this filtering varies randomly along the track, the pulses of the moving static load induce a certain ground Vibration component (“the scatter of axle pulses”). This effect was calculated by the superposition of axle pulses in the frequency domain and by a stochastic simulation. Simultaneous vehicle, track and soil measurements at a certain site were used to evaluate the different excitation and ground Vibration components. The agreement between calculations and axle-box and soil measurements is good. The ground vibrations calculated from rail irregularities and corresponding dynamic loads, however, clearly underestimate the measured ground vibration amplitudes. Only the static load that is moving over a varying track support stiffness can produce the important mid-frequency ground Vibration component by the scatter of axle pulses. Due to slender cross-sections typically used for tension members, high demands are placed on the effectiveness and reliability of the intumescent coatings. This paper describes real-scale fire tests of intumescent coatings applied to steel tension members with circular solid and hollow sections. First, the current regulations for the application of intumescent coatings on steel tension members are discussed. After that, a comparison between the foaming behaviour and failure mechanisms of intumescent coatings applied to steel tension members with different cross-sections and loading conditions is given. Next, the experimental setup and procedure of the performed fire tests are presented. In addition, the influences of various parameters on the performance of the intumescent coating are analysed, including the geometry of the steel profile, dry film thickness of the intumescent coating, load utilisation level as well as the orientation of the member. Based on the theoretical considerations and results of the fire tests, it is evidenced that mechanically loaded fire tests are essential to assess accurately the contribution of intumescent fire protection coatings to the fire resistance of steel tension members with circular solid sections. Corrosion processes on WTGs pose a particular challenge with regard to safe operation over longer periods of time due to the highly corrosive conditions in the offshore area. BAM is therefore conducting research to ensure a safe operation of the turbines over their intended service life to protect people and the environment. In a joint research project, different corrosion-relevant areas of a WTG foundation structure were specifically simulated in test basins within a laboratory container. The aim of the work was, on the one hand, the gravimetric and electrochemical determination of corrosion rates in the different areas of an WTG that are relevant for cathodic corrosion protection (CCP): Underwater and sediment zone as well as the transition area between these two zones. Also, targeted tests were carried out under CCP. In addition, investigations regarding calcareous deposition during CCP were carried out on idealized specimens under laboratory conditions to better assess its influence on the protection process. The investigations were carried out in a laboratory container with different basins, which were filled with sand as sediment and artificial seawater according to ISO 15711and connected via a closed water circuit. The poster at EURCORR 2022 provides an overview of the investigations and the most important results. It will be evaluated, if a simulation of offshore corrosion conditions is possible to a certain extent in an idealized system with artificial seawater and sediment. They withstand wind and weather for decades, which is possible thanks to a protective layer made of corrosion products. When designing the atmospheric durability of galvanized components, a linear corrosion loss is assumed. In the past 30 years, however, the surrounding atmosphere has changed a lot. Due to the restriction of sulfur exhaust air, acid rain completely disappeared in Europe and Germany, which has a direct influence on the type and protective effect of the corrosion products. Under the influence of current atmospheric conditions, zinc layers are significantly more resistant and no longer show any linear corrosion loss. The established test methods cannot correctly map this change in neither short-term nor long-term tests and thus provide incorrect results. In order to solve this problem, a new measurement method was developed at BAM that can assess the protective effect of the formed surface layers in a minimally invasive manner without damaging the sample and in short test times. For this new method, gel electrolytes are used and the so-called corrosion product layer resistance RL, which is made up of various surface resistances, is measured electrochemically. As a single measurement, the surface layer resistance can provide information about the existing corrosion protection, while time-dependent measurements assess the stability of the layer. Thus, it is possible again to evaluate the corrosion protection layer. Furthermore, this method can also be used for field measurements on real components. Due to the thin coating thickness and the profile-following application, the architectural appearance of the steel structure can be preserved. EN 13381-8 provides regulations to determine the contribution to the fire resistance of intumescent coatings applied to steel beams and columns. The scope of this standard excludes tension members and steel members with solid sections. For products that have already been successfully tested and assessed on beams and columns, EN 13381-10 offers the possibility based on unloaded fire tests to extend the scope of application of intumescent coatings to tension bars with solid sections. This approach contradicts the national safety level in Germany, where mechanically loaded testing is mandatory. Therefore, a new part of the test standard series EN 13381 is currently developed to enable the application of intumescent coatings on steel tension bars with solid section based on mechanically loaded fire tests. BAM has already carried out numerous fire tests on loaded steel tension members with intumescent coatings. Currently, in the BAM research project FIRESTEMIC, the influence of the steel bar orientation and the profile type on the thermal performance of intumescent coatings are investigated. Both questions concerning the thermal protection ability of intumescent coatings were analysed based on three different test sets, which were carried out in the tension furnace (Fig. 1a). The fire exposure corresponds to the standard temperature-time curve according to EN 1363-1. This paper summarises the main findings from the fire tests conducted in the FIRESTEMIC project. The results serve as an experimental background for the proposal of the new standard. Regarding the bar orientation, a new test setup was developed and proposed for the new standard. The two tested commercial water-based intumescent coatings with applied dry film thickness from 1.5 mm to 2.5 mm showed only a slight dependence on the bar orientation. In terms of the steel profile type, circular and rectangular solid sections with identical section factor and applied dry film thickness were tested. It was observed that the circular solid bars with diameter 30 mm heat up faster compared to the solid rectangular bars with dimension 30×30 mm (Fig. 1b). Also at larger steel bars, i.e. diameter 40 mm and dimension 40×40 mm, the same trend occurred. Thus, it is recommended for the new test standard to allow a transfer of the test results from circular to rectangular solid sections. In this thesis theoretical developments have been proposed to improve the robustness of SSDD for realistic applications conditions. First, a statistical test has been proposed considering the statistical uncertainties about the model obtained from the reference data. This leads to a precise description of the test’s distribution properties and damage detection thresholds. Second, an approach has been developed to account for environmental effects in SSDD. Based on reference measurements at few different environmental conditions, a test is derived with respect to an adequate interpolated reference. The proposed methods are validated in numerical simulations and applied to experimental data from the laboratory and outdoor structures. This paper presents and validates 3D FE/PML numerical schemes based on two different PML formulations for homogeneous and inhomogeneous geological media exhibiting discrete or continuous inhomogeneity. In the equation of motion for the PML domain the applied stretching behavior is expressed either as complex material properties or as complex coordinates. Both PML formulations are implemented in the FEM and verified against analytical solutions. Three different types of material inhomogeneity are considered: layered half-space, continuously inhomogeneous half-space with linear velocity profile and continuously inhomogeneous half-space with nonlinear velocity profile. Sensitivity analyses are conducted, and the performance of the developed numerical schemes is investigated taking into account a broad variation of the PML parameters. T1 - Experimental Evaluation of Carbon Reinforced TRC with Cement Suspension Matrix at Elevated Temperature N2 - Textile-reinforced concrete (TRC) is a new composite material comprising high-performance concrete and textile reinforcement from textile yarns with a matrix, usually consisting of epoxy resins (ER). The most significant advantage of ER is the homogenization of all filaments in the yarn and full utilization of its tensile potential. Nevertheless, ER matrix is a critical part of TRC design from the perspective of the fire resistance due to its relatively low resistance at temperatures of approximately 120 C. This work expands the previously performed mechanical tests at normal temperatures with cement suspension (CS) as a non-combustible material for the yarn matrix. Here, the mechanical properties of CS matrix at elevated temperatures were verified. It was found that the addition of polypropylene fibers into HPC negatively affected the mechanical results of CS matrix specimens. Simultaneously, thermal insulation effect of the covering layers with different thicknesses did not significantly influence the residual bending strength of specimens with CS matrix and achieved similar results as reference specimens. Furthermore, all specimens with ER matrix progressively collapsed. Finally, CS as a textile reinforcement of yarn matrix appears to be a suitable solution for increasing the temperature resistance of TRC structures and for substituting synthetic resins. For years, it has been known that the aerosols of phenolphthalein are suspected of being carcinogenic. Hence, more work has currently being done on alternative indicators for the use in research and the use on construction sites. Over the past years, mainly pH indicators from other research areas and natural dyes were investigated for their usability to cementitious systems. This paper presents the experimental results of using phenolphthalein solution bound in agar-agar gel. This gel-bound indicator allows the future use of the already known phenolphthalein dye without the health hazards for the user. To demonstrate the flexibility of the gel-bound colorant, different application forms of the indicator were carried out and assessed. In addition, the results obtained by the different methods were statistically evaluated to ensure validity. The accuracy of the results was confirmed by thermogravimetric analysis and IR spectroscopic studies as reference methods. It has also succeeded to demonstrate the comparability of the results achieved by the gel-bound colorant with the results of the common sprayed application method. As an additional gain in knowledge, comparative results of indicator tests, TGA analysis, and FTIR investigation are shown. For this purpose, the angle of repose is currently used for the UN approvals in Germany. The results of the methods differ significantly from each other. In addition, some of the techniques cannot be applied for very cohesive or coarse-grained materials. The results for the angle of repose show a strong scatter for some constellations (coefficient of variation more than 20 %). Safety during transport of dangerous goods cannot be guaranteed with this currently practiced system of measuring the angle of repose. As a consequence, an alternative parameter to characterize the flow properties of bulk materials should be used in the recognized test centers for dangerous goods packagings, such as the Hausner ratio. This approach leads to more precise test results for the substances examined (maximum coefficient of variation 2.8 %). It also has advantages in terms of applicability and occupational safety. Since the flow properties are safety-relevant, both in terms of mechanical safety and safety against the release of dangerous substances, the testing practice in the recognized test labs should be improved and standardized.
