T1 - Pt thin-film metallization for FC-bonding using SnPb60/40 solder bump metallurgy N2 - Platinum does not form any adherent oxides and can be easily wetted by tin-based solders. Platinum is also an available metallization in semiconductor laboratories. Therefore we investigated the diffusion of platinum thin-film metallizations into eutectic tin–lead solder by using a high-resolution secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) profiling from the back side. It is shown that an intermetallic phase (PtSn4) is formed during soldering, which controls the consumption of platinum during soldering and in operation. The consumption of platinum follows the well-known parabolic diffusion law. The activation energy of this process is 0.63 eV. Even at extended heating cycles of 2 min at 250°C, 190 nm from the original 300 nm of the platinum film remain undissolved. This high stability makes platinum a very attractive thin-film metallization for flip-chip (FC) bonding of new microsystems. However, little is known about the influence of polymer shells on the formation and time evolution of protein corona onto functionalized NPs. Therefore, silicapoly(ethylene glycol) core–shell nanohybrids (SNPs@PEG) with different polymer molecular weights (MW) were synthesized and exhaustively characterized. Bovine serum albumin (BSA) at different concentrations (0.1–6 wt%) was used as model protein to study protein corona formation and time evolution. For pristine SNPs and SNPs@PEG (MW = 350 g/mol), zeta potential at different incubation times show a dynamical evolution of the nanoparticle–protein corona. Oppositely, for SNPs@PEG with MW ≥2000 g/mol a significant suppression of corona formation and time evolution was observed. Furthermore, AFM investigations suggest a different orientation (side-chain or perpendicular) and Penetration depth of BSA toward PEGylated surfaces depending on the polymer length which may explain differences in protein corona evolution. Zr K-edge EXAFS spectra show that a stepwise increase of acetic acid in aqueous solution with 0.1 M Zr(IV) leads to a structural rearrangement from initial tetranuclear hydrolysis species [Zr4(OH)8(OH2)16]8+ to a hexanuclear acetate species Zr6(O)4(OH)4(CH3COO)12. The solution species Zr6(O)4(OH)4(CH3COO)12 was preserved in crystals by slow evaporation of the aqueous solution. T1 - Rhenium and technetium complexes bearing quinazoline derivatives: progress towards a 99mTc biomarker for EGFR-TK imaging N2 - The quinazoline derivatives (3-chloro-4-fluorophenyl)quinazoline-4,6-diamine (2) and (3-bromophenyl)quinazoline-4,6-diamine (3) were labelled with 99mTc using the 4 + 1 mixed-ligand system [Tc(NS3)(CN-R)] and the tricarbonyl moiety fac-[Tc(CO)3]+. In the 4 + 1 approach the technetium(III) is stabilized by a monodentate isocyanide bearing a quinazoline fragment (L1, L2) and by the tetradentate tripodal ligand tris(2-mercaptoethyl)-amine (NS3). In the 4 + 1 approach, 99mTc-labelling was performed in a two-step procedure, the complexes [Tc(NS3)(L1)] (7a) and [Tc(NS3)(L2)] (8a) being obtained in about 50–70% yield. In the tricarbonyl approach, the fac-[Tc(CO)3]+ unit is anchored by two different monoanionic chelators bearing the quinazoline derivatives (3-chloro-4-fluorophenyl)quinazoline-4,6-diamine (2) and (3-bromophenyl)quinazoline-4,6-diamine (3). Both chelators have a N2O donor atom set, but one contains a pyrazolyl ring (L5H) and the other contains a pyridine unit (L6H). In both cases the conjugation of the quinazoline to the chelator was done through the secondary amine of the potentially tridentate and monoanionic chelators, the corresponding 99mTc-complexes (10a, 11a) being obtained in quantitative yield. The identities of the 99mTc-labelled quinazolines (7a, 8a, 10a, 11a) were confirmed by comparison with the HPLC profiles of the analogous Re compounds (7, 8, 10, 11). All these Re complexes were characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and in some cases by MS and X-ray diffraction analysis. In vitro studies indicate that the quinazoline fragments, after conjugation to the cyano group (L1, L2) or to the pyrazolyl containing chelator (L5H), as well as the corresponding Re complexes (7, 8, 10) inhibit significantly the EGFR autophosphorylation and also inhibit A431 cell growth. These two effects were also found for the pyridine-containing chelator (L6H) and corresponding Re complex (11), although to a lesser extent. T1 - Influence of heat treatment on microstructure and hot crack susceptibility of laser-drilled turbine blades made from René 80 N2 - Turbine components from conventionally cast nickel-base alloy René 80 show different hot cracking susceptibilities depending on their heat treatment conditions leading to slightly different microstructures. Electron probe micro-analysis, focused ion beam technique and analytical transmission electron microscopy were applied to reveal and identify grain boundary precipitates and the γ–γ'-microstructure. The distribution of borides along grain boundaries was evaluated statistically by quantitative metallography. The following features could be correlated with an increase of cracking susceptibility: i) Increasing grain size, ii) increasing fraction of grain boundaries with densely spaced borides, iii) lack of secondary γ'-particles in matrix channels between the coarse cuboidal γ'-precipitates. The latter feature seems to be responsible for linking-up of cracked grain boundary precipitates which occurred as an additional cracking mechanism after one heat treatment, whereas decohesion at the boride-matrix-interface in the heat affected zone of laser-drilled holes was observed for both heat treatments. A1 - Österle, Werner T1 - Characterisation of silica nanoparticles prior to in vitro studies: from primary particles to agglomerates N2 - The size, surface charge and agglomeration state of nanoparticles under physiological conditions are fundamental parameters to be determined prior to their application in toxicological studies. Although silica-based materials are among the most promising candidates for biomedical applications, more systematic studies concerning the characterisation before performing toxicological studies are necessary. This interest is based on the necessity to elucidate the mechanisms affecting its toxicity. We present here TEM, SAXS and SMPS as a combination of methods allowing an accurate determination of single nanoparticle sizes. For the commercial material, Ludox TM50 single particle sizes around 30 nm were found in solution. DLS measurements of single particles are rather affected by polydispersity and particles concentration but this technique is useful to monitor their agglomeration state. Here, the influence of nanoparticle concentration, ionic strength (IS), pH and bath sonication on the agglomeration behaviour of silica particles in solution has been systematically investigated. Moreover, the colloidal stability of silica particles in the presence of BSA has been investigated showing a correlation between silica and protein concentrations and the formation of agglomerates. Finally, the colloidal stability of silica particles in standard cell culture medium has been tested, concluding the necessity of surface modification in order to preserve silica as primary particles in the presence of serum. The results presented here have major implications on toxicity investigations because silica agglomeration will change the probability and uptake mechanisms and thereby may affect toxicity. Load bearing behaviour of cast steel components in offshore wind turbines under fatigue and static loads. The installation of offshore wind turbines of the 5-megawatt class in deep water of the North Sea makes it economically necessary to build foundations in high quantities. Constructions of this kind are a major technical challenge in terms of design, manufacturing and operation. In this paper the dynamic behaviour of jacket constructions in the North Sea are investigated. Currently jacket structures are constructed with steel pipes that are welded at the connecting nodes. This procedure implies several disadvantages. In contrast cast steel elements are universally applicable and designable. To verify the load bearing behaviour numerical simulations and laboratory tests are done. Laboratory tests include the testing of the ultimate load bearing capacity. The formation of La-Cr compounds such as La2CrO6, LaCrO4 was shown to occur by calcination of CrOx/La2O3 and CrOx/La2O3/ZrO2 at 600 °C. With a Cr content of ca. 4 wt.%, it was revealed that, having been reduced to Cr3+-containing compounds, La2CrO6 and/or LaCrO4 in both systems may be restored by reoxidation at 600 °C. In the case of CrOx/La2O3/ZrO2 catalysts, it is suggested that these compounds were real surface species anchored as an overlayer on zirconia. Such a structure may stabilise, on the one hand, the tetragonal modification of zirconia and, on the other hand, highly dispersed state of Cr species in calcined as well as in reduced catalysts. The atomic distances between heavy and light scatterers observed using EXAFS in meta-zeunerite deviate approximately 0.1 Å from literature data of single-crystal X-ray diffraction measurements. Because this difference is significant higher than the error limits of EXAFS measurements, the complete crystal structure of meta-zeunerite, Cu[UO2AsO4]2·8 H2O, is revised by X-ray structure analysis. The bond length determinations by EXAFS and the revised XRD data agree within the experimental error limits. In this study EXAFS spectroscopy has proven to be an useful tool for determining precise local bond lengths in the environment of heavy atoms. Moreover, the crystal structure of zeunerite, Cu[UO2AsO4]2·12 H2O, hitherto not been described in the literature, was investigated. Reflex broadening effects and intergrowth relationship between zeunerite and meta-zeunerite show that meta-zeunerite grows in nature due to dehydration of zeunerite. The structural transition from zeunerite to meta-zeunerite is connected with a change in the uranyl arsenate layer arrangement and the crystal water content.
