Die hohen Härten dieser Schichten und der Einsatz konventioneller Co-basierter Verschleißwerkstoffe führen oftmals zu unwirtschaftlichen Bauteilen, gerade aufgrund hohen Werkzeugverschleißes bei der Zerspanung mit geometrisch bestimmter Schneide. Er-kenntnisse über den Einsatz Ni-basierter Verschleißwerkstoffe und die Optimierung der Zerspanbarkeit mittels Legierungsmodifikationen und moderner hybrider Fräsprozesse ohne Verschlechterung der Ver-schleißschutzeigenschaften sind deshalb für die Anwender und Verarbeiter zur wirtschaftlichen Fertigung hochbelasteter Stahlbauteile wesentlich. Der vorliegende Beitrag stellt die Untersuchungsmethodik eines aktuell laufenden Vorhabens der TU Clausthal und BAM, Berlin, vor. Eine etablierte Methode ist die sogenannte Varestraint-Prüfung, welche auch an der Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) als modifizierter Varestraint/Transvarestraint-Test (MVT) zum Einsatz kommt. Die Ergebnisse von Varestraint-Prüfungen hängen jedoch stets in unter-schiedlichem Maße von der individuellen Prüfmaschinenauslegung und den verwendeten Prüfparametern ab. Dies kann zu einer uneinheitlichen Bewertung des Rissverhaltens führen, wenn die Risslänge konventionell als Kriterium für die Rissneigung herangezogen wird. T1 - Hydrogen degradation effects on mechanical properties in T24 weld microstructures N2 - Spectacular failure cases of fossil power stations in the recent years exhibited severe cracking in T24 welds. The results show that hydrogen-assisted cracking up to 200 °C cannot be excluded. Hence, it is important to gain a basic understanding on how hydrogen might affect the basic material properties in the respective weld microstructures. The present study focuses on hydrogen degradation of the respective weld microstructures, i.e., the weld metal and the coarse grained heat affected zone, where actually cracking appeared in practice. Tensile tests were carried out for coarse grain heataffected zone (CGHAZ) and the weld metal in uncharged and electrochemically hydrogen-charged condition. It turned out that both microstructures show distinct tendency for gradual degradation of mechanical properties in the presence of increasing hydrogen concentration. Already for a hydrogen concentration about and above 2 ml/100 g Fe, a significant ductility reduction has been observed. SEM investigations revealed that the fracture topography changes from ductile topography in uncharged condition to intergranular topography for the CGHAZ and to ductile-brittle mix for the weld metal (WM) in hydrogen charged condition. Ti-rich inclusions were identified as central regions of quasi-cleavage fracture areas in the WM. An approximation procedure is applied to quantify the degradation intensity. A1 - Böllinghaus, Thomas T1 - Hydrogen interaction with residual stresses in steel studied by synchrotron X-ray diffraction N2 - The residual stress state in a material has an important role in the mechanism of cracking, induced or assisted by hydrogen. In this contribution, the beamline EDDI in BESSY II instrument in Berlin was used in order to investigate the influence of hydrogen upon the residual stresses state existing in a Supermartensitic stainless steel sample. The method used for investigating the residual stresses is the “sinus square ψ” method. This method involves the usage of high energy X-ray diffraction in order to measure the residual stress state and magnitude. It was found that hydrogen presence has a significant influence upon the magnitude of the residual stresses, as its value decreases with high hydrogen content. This effect is reversible, as hydrogen desorbs from the sample the residual stress magnitude gains its initial value before hydrogen charging. T1 - Influence of welding parameters on diffusible hydrogen content in high-strength steel welds using modified spray arc process N2 - In order to satisfy the growing requirements towards lightweight design and resource efficiency in modern steel constructions, e.g., mobile cranes and bridges, high-strength steels with typical yield strength ≥ 690 MPa are coming into use to an increasing extent. However, these steels require special treatment in welding. The susceptibility for degradation of the mechanical properties in the presence of hydrogen increases significantly with increasing yield strength. In case of missing knowledge about how and the amount of hydrogen that is uptaken during welding, hydrogen-assisted cracking (HAC) can be a negative consequence. Moreover, modern weld technology like the modified spray arc process enables welding of narrower weld seams. In this context, a reduced number of weld beads, volume, and total heat input are technical and economical benefits. This work presents the influence of welding parameters on the diffusible hydrogen content in both (1) single-pass and (2) multi-layer welds. Different hydrogen concentrations were detected by varied contact tube distance, wire feed speed, arc length, and varied arc type (transitional arc and modified spray arc). The results show that all welding parameters have significant influence on the diffusible hydrogen concentration in the single-pass welds. By increasing the number of weld beads in case of multi-layer welding, the hydrogen concentration has been reduced. Whereby, differences in hydrogen concentrations between both arc types are present. T1 - Nd: YAG laser plasma powder hybrid welding of austenitic stainless steels N2 - As an approach towards more rough industrial laser welding applications, the Nd:YAG laser welding process has been coupled to the plasma powder welding process for the first time. Process stabilities have been achieved by such hybrid welding which are even better than those known from previous coupling of the laser process with gas metal arc welding (GMAW), for instance. The present contribution focuses on the technology and potentials of the novel laser hybrid welding technique and addresses the realisation and the perspectives for practical applications. The experimental results demonstrate that the new process coupling enables welding of austenitic stainless steels in the thickness range between 3 mm and 8 mm at various weld geometries and joint configurations and at welding speeds exceeding 2 m/min. In addition it has been proven that the laser plasma powder arc welding (LPPAW) technique can also be applied to out-of-position conditions. Continuous advancement of the welding equipment ensures a high gap bridging ability and levelling of misalignment due to higher powder feeding rates. The recent development of a new plasma powder torch even provides a higher efficiency of powder feeding and guarantees smoth weld surfaces. Up to the present, the investigations demonstrated that the novel laser plasma powder hybrid welding technique offers all perspectives for application in pipe fabrication, ship building and offshore as well as transportation industry. In order to achieve a closer insight into the structural effects, component weldability tests have been performed by online monitoring of the reaction forces and moments. As a particular item, the effects of different strengths of the base and filier material on the reaction force and stress build up transverse to the welding direction have been studied at a specific structural restraint. As a most relevant result for practical welding it is demonstrated that the final reaction force and also the reaction stress level in the multilayer butt welds decreases with overmatch of the weld metal. For the investigations reported in this contribution, hydrogen thermal desorption analysis has been carried out to observe the influence of hydrogen desorption on the lattice of super martensitic stainless steel during continuous heating. The lattice expansion parameter and the phase transformations have been monitored during the thermal desorption process, and the influence of hydrogen on such characteristics has been evaluated. It was found that hydrogen has a significant influence on both the lattice parameter and on the thermal expansion. However, hydrogen has no influence on phase transformation during thermal desorption. The hydrogen's desorption behavior in this process was also observed and it turned out that hydrogen desorbs in two stages, i.e., firstly diffusible hydrogen and trapped hydrogen afterward. The present contribution provides a report of first in situ investigations of hydrogen effects on the lattice of the austenite and the martensite phase in a supermartensitic stainless steel using hard synchrotron radiation for respective energy dispersion diffraction measurements. Lattice distortions, such as the planar spacing expansion, have been monitored during the complete hydrogen effusion process over 24 h and are directly correlated to the dissolved hydrogen in the metal matrix. Among other results, it turned out that hydrogen at the introduced concentration level causes a reversible lattice expansion and after hydrogen effusion the lattice nearly regained its original dimensions. Hydrogen much more significantly affects the austenite phase with respect to lattice expansion than the martensite phase, but no phase transformations occur during the hydrogen desorption process.
