T1 - Large-area fabrication of low- and high-spatial-frequency laser-induced periodic surface structures on carbon fibers N2 - The formation and properties of laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) were investigated on carbon fibers under irradiation of fs-laser pulses characterized by a pulse duration τ = 300 fs and a laser wavelength λ = 1025 nm. The LIPSS were fabricated in an air environment at normal incidence with different values of the laser peak fluence and number of pulses per spot. The morphology of the generated structures was characterized by using scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and Fast-Fourier transform analyses. Moreover, the material structure and the surface chemistry of the carbon fibers before and after laser irradiation was analyzed by micro Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Large areas in the cm2 range of carbon fiber arrangements were successfully processed with homogenously distributed high- and low-spatial frequency LIPSS. Beyond those distinct nanostructures, hybrid structures were realized for the very first time by a superposition of both types of LIPSS in a two-step process. The findings facilitate the fabrication of tailored LIPSS-based surface structures on carbon fibers that could be of particular interest for e.g. fiber reinforced polymers and concretes. Als Rohstoffe werden bisher ungenutzte oder auf niedrigem Niveau eingesetzte Bau‐ und Abbruchabfälle und industrielle Nebenprodukte verwendet. Als Produkte werden leichte Gesteinskörnungen hergestellt. Die Sulfatabtrennung durch eine thermische Zersetzung bildet die Grundlage für die zusätzliche Gewinnung von Rauchgasentschwefelungs‐Gips (REA‐Gips). Das Projekt wird im Rahmen der Fördermaßnahme „Ressourceneffiziente Kreislaufwirtschaft – Bauen und Mineralische Stoffkreisläufe (ReMin)” gefördert. ReMin ist eine Maßnahme zur Umsetzung des BMBF‐Forschungskonzepts „Ressourceneffiziente Kreislaufwirtschaft” als Teil der BMBF Strategie „Forschung für nachhaltige Entwicklung – FONA”. A1 - Meng, Birgit T1 - Effects of fatigue loading and alkali-silica reaction on the mechanical behaviour of pavement concrete N2 - The primary aim of this paper is to analyze the impact of mechanical pre-damage and alkali–silica reaction (ASR) on the fracture mechanical properties of pavement concrete. For this purpose, a four point bending test was applied to large format beams to produce a defined level of cyclic pre-damage. The fatigue-induced concrete degradation process was simultaneously recorded using a testing procedure specifically developed for the purpose. In addition, fatigue-induced cracks on extracted drilling cores were spatially visualized and quantified using micro X-ray 3D-computed tomography (3D-CT). The storage of the small-format test specimens, with and without cyclic pre-damage, in an ASR-conducive environment showed that pre-damage leads to an increase in ASR damage processes. Subsequent structural mechanical investigations on small format specimens with and without pre-damage show that fatigue loading and ASR significantly influence fracture mechanical parameters of the concrete. T1 - Formation of laser-induced periodic surface structures on Zr-based bulk metallic glasses with different chemical composition N2 - Bulk metallic glasses (BMG) are amorphous metal alloys known for their unique physical and mechanical properties. In the present study, the formation of femtosecond (fs) laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) on the Zr-based BMGs Zr46Cu46Al8, Zr61Cu25Al12Ti2, Zr52.5Cu17.9Al10Ni14.6Ti5 (Vit105) and Zr57Cu15.4Al10Ni12.6Nb5 (Vit106) was investigated as a function of their different chemical composition. For this purpose, LIPSS were generated on the sample surfaces in an air environment by fs-laser irradiation (λ = 1025 nm, τ = 300 fs, frep = 100 kHz). The surface topography was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Moreover, the impact of LIPSS formation on the structure and chemical surface composition was analyzed before and after fs-laser irradiation by X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy as well as by transmission electron microscopy in combination with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Despite the different chemical composition of the investigated BMGs, the fs-laser irradiation resulted in almost similar properties of the generated LIPSS patterns. In the case of Zr61Cu25Al12Ti2, Vit105 and Vit106, the surface analysis revealed the preservation of the amorphous state of the materials during fs-laser irradiation. The study demonstrated the presence of a native oxide layer on all pristine BMGs. In addition, fs-laser irradiation results in the formation of laser-induced oxide layers of larger thickness consisting of an amorphous ZrAlCu-oxide. The precise laser-structuring of BMG surfaces on the nanoscale provides a versatile alternative to thermoplastic forming of BMG surfaces and is of particular interest for the engineering of functional material surfaces. T1 - Bispidines for dual imaging N2 - The efficient transformation of the hexadentate bispidinol 1 into carbamate derivatives yields functional bispidines enabling convenient functionalization for targeted imaging. The BODIPY-substituted bispidine 3 combines a coordination site for metal ions, such as radioactive 64CuII, with a fluorescent unit. Product 3 was thoroughly characterized by standard analytical methods, single crystal X-ray diffraction, radiolabeling, and photophysical analysis. The luminescence of ligand 3 was found to be strongly dependent on metal ion coordination: CuII quenches the BODIPY fluorescence, whereas NiII and ZnII ions do not affect it. It follows that, in imaging applications with the positron emitter 64CuII, residues of its origin from enriched 64Ni and the decay products 64NiII and 64ZnII, efficiently restore the fluorescence of the ligand. This allows for monitoring of the emitted radiation as well as the fluorescence signal. The stability of the 64CuII–3 complex is investigated by transmetalation experiments with ZnII and NiII, using fluorescence and radioactivity detection, and the results confirm the high stability of 64CuII–3. In addition, metal complexes of ligand 3 with the lanthanide ions TbIII, EuIII, and NdIII are shown to exhibit emission of the BODIPY ligand and the lanthanide ion, thus enabling dual emission detection. This is particularly true for the proteome: protein quantification always follows protein identification. To obtain useful and reliable quantitative data, rather sophisticated strategies using electrospray and MALDI mass spectrometry have been developed, which allow relative and sometimes even absolute quantification. All of those strategies have merits and limitations. In order to overcome some of these limits, methods based on the reliable and sensitive detection and quantification of heavy metals present in proteins using inductively coupled plasma (ICP)-MS have been reported. With specific labels carrying heavy metals, the applicability of ICP-MS has been extended to almost every protein. One of such covalently bound metal tags, allowing the quantification of low abundant proteins, uses 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane N,N',N'',N''-tetraacetic acid (DOTA) chelate complexes carrying lanthanides as the metal core. In this review the scope and limitations of peptide and protein quantification will be addressed. The metal tags do not only provide low detection limits, but also due to the large number of different lanthanides and lanthanide isotopes, multiplexing capabilities and previously unknown accuracy based on inherently possible isotope dilution methods came into reach. The developed workflows, including electrophoretic and chromatographic separation and preconcentration techniques, will be addressed to allow a comparison with already established procedures. In this paper, the common modification with bifunctional ligands containing maleimide residues as a reactive group was investigated in detail via size exclusion chromatography (SEC)-ICP-MS and liquid chromatography–time-of-flight (LC-TOF)-MS to determine the preservation of the antibody structure after tagging. Mouse monoclonal IgG modified with metal-coded tags (MeCATs) was used as a model system. Several antibody fragments were identified carrying different numbers of metal tags. In a second step, a functionality test was performed with isolated fragments where the antigen specificity was tested in a dot blot immunoassay. Ziel ist die Gewährleistung der Sicherheit und Zuverlässigkeit der eingesetzten Bauteile. Aktive Thermografieverfahren ermöglichen die effiziente Prüfung großer Flächen mit hoher Auflösung in wenigen Arbeitsschritten. Ein wichtiges Teilgebiet der Prüfungen ist die Ortung und Charakterisierung von Delaminationen, die sowohl bereits in der Fertigung als auch während der Nutzung eines Bauteils auftreten können, und dessen strukturelle Integrität schwächen. In diesem Beitrag werden CFK-Strukturen mit künstlichen und natürlichen Delaminationen mit Hilfe unterschiedlich zeitlich modulierter Strahlungsquellen experimentell untersucht. Verwendet werden dabei Anregungen mit Blitzlampen und mit frequenzmodulierten Halogenlampen. Mittels Filterfunktionen im Zeit- und Frequenzbereich wird das Kontrast-zu-Rausch-Verhältnis (CNR) der detektierten Fehlstellen optimiert. Verglichen werden anschließend die Nachweisempfindlichkeit, das CNR und die Ortsauflösung der zu charakterisierenden Delaminationen für die unterschiedlichen Anregungs- und Auswertungstechniken. T1 - Rammed earth walls strengthened with polyester fabric strips: Experimental analysis under in-plane cyclic loading N2 - This study analyses the mechanical behaviour under pseudo-dynamic loading of structural elements built in rammed earth and strengthened with polyester fabric strips. This strengthening technique was developed to exploit the strength potential of rammed earth and to solve its lack of tensile strength. For this reason, in-plane cyclic tests were carried out to investigate the shear behaviour of unstrengthened and strengthened walls. The strengthening technique requires low-tech equipment and workmanship, uses readily available, not expensive and industrially standardised materials. The experimental results were analysed in terms of stiffness degradation, energy dissipation capacity and equivalent viscous damping. Although the unstrengthened and strengthened walls confirmed a limited ductile behaviour, the findings confirm that the strengthening contributes to limit the spread of the diagonal cracks and provide an increase of strength in terms of horizontal load and displacement capacity. T1 - Determining the Material Parameters for the Reconstruction of Defects in Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers from Data Measured by Flash Thermography N2 - Flash thermography is a fast and reliable non-destructive testing method for the investigation of defects in carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) materials. In this paper numerical simulations of transient thermography data are presented, calculated for a quasi-isotropic flat bottom hole sample. They are compared to experimental data. These simulations are one important step towards the quantitative reconstruction of a flaw by assessing thermographic data. The applied numerical model is based on the finite-element method, extended by a semi-analytical treatment of the boundary of the sample, which is heated by the flash light. A crucial part for a reliable numerical model is the prior determination of the material parameters of the specimen as well as of the experimental parameters of the set-up. The material parameters in plane and in depth diffusivity are measured using laser line excitation. In addition, the absorption and heat transfer process of the first layers is investigated using an IR microscopic lens. The performance of the two distinct components of CFRP during heating – epoxy resin and carbon fibers – is examined. Finally, the material parameters are optimized by variation and comparison of the simulation results to the experimental data. The optimized parameters are compared to the measured ones and further methods to ensure precise material parameter measurements are discussed. ED - Quercetti, Thomas T1 - Experimental testing of RAM packages within Japanese German projects N2 - In context with Japanese disposal and transport container safety assessment the German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung) per-formed extensive drop test series with prototypes of RAM packages in recent years. The paper presents two cooperative projects focused on project management, testing performance and experimental results. In the first project, a full-scale prototype of a package for transport and storage of spent fuel elements with a total mass of 127,000 kg and its reduced-scale model which was similar to the prototype in both geometry and design were drop tested in 9 m and 1 m puncture tests at various drop orientations under regulatory conditions. In context with a corresponding research project the test data was used in combination with numerical methods to investigate the phenomenon of internal cask- content collisions during drop tests. Here, technological gaps between basket or radioactive content and cask body or primary lid can be a reason for significant high dynamic loadings of cask components and its internals due to additional impact interactions in the cask cavity caused by inner relative movement between content and cask. Further investigations were carried out in the field of similarity mechanics comparing experimental drop test data of the full-scale prototype and reduced-scale model in regard to the transferability of package impact response from reduced-scale models to full-scale packages. In the second project, drop tests with a waste container for intermediate depth disposal were per-formed being contracted by Kobe Steel, Ltd. and a consortium of Japanese electric power plant com-panies. The drop test program comprised three single 8-m drop tests in a specimen’s corner edge orientation. For drop tests according to legal regulations for interim storage or final disposal it is often necessary to use a target which represents the real ground of the storage facility. In such cases the container hits directly onto a well-defined concrete slab on top of the IAEA target. Here, the directly impact target for the drop tests were concrete slabs manufactured in Japan and connected by mortar to the impact pad of the unyielding IAEA target. T1 - Reverse time migration: introducing a new imaging technique for ultrasonic measurements in civil engineering N2 - Ultrasonic echo testing is widely used in non-destructive testing in civil engineering to investigate concrete structures, to measure thickness, and to locate and characterise built-in components or inhomogeneities. Currently, synthetic aperture focusing techniques are mostly used for imaging. These algorithms are highly developed but have some limitations. For example, it is not possible to image the lower boundary of built-in components like tendon ducts or vertical reflectors. We adopted reverse time migration for non-destructive testing in civil engineering in order to improve the imaging of complicated structures in concrete. By using the entire wavefield, including waves reflected more than once, there are fewer limitations compared to synthetic aperture focusing technique algorithms. As a drawback, the required computation is significantly higher than that for the techniques currently used. Simulations for polyamide and concrete structures showed the potential for non-destructive testing. The simulations were followed by experiments at a polyamide specimen. Here, having acquired almost noise-free measurement data to test the algorithm, we were able to determine the shape and size of boreholes with sufficient accuracy. After these successful tests, we performed experiments at a reinforced concrete foundation slab. We obtained information from the data by reverse time migration, which was not accessible by traditional imaging. The imaging of the location and structure of the lower boundary of the concrete foundation slab was improved. Furthermore, vertical reflectors inside the slab were imaged clearly, and more flaws were found. It has been shown that reverse time migration is a step forward in ultrasonic testing in civil engineering. Salmon, T1 - Handheld terahertz spectrometer for the detection of liquid explosives N2 - We present a handheld fiber-coupled terahertz spectrometer operating at a center wavelength of 1550 nm. The key elements are a fs-fiber laser, a fiber stretcher delay line and fiber-coupled antennas, which contain novel InAlAs-InGaAs multi layer chips. First experimental data obtained with this system demonstrates its great potential and robustness. In addition, we investigate different hazardous and harmless liquids in reflection geometry. These experiments show that liquids are in principle distinguishable by terahertz spectroscopy. Finally, first steps towards an algorithm that allows for an extraction of the liquids dielectric properties are discussed. The algorithm works for the analysis of reflection data even if the liquid is located inside a container. The drop test program comprised three single 8 m drop tests at the specimen's corner edge orientation onto a concrete slab. The slab was connected to the unyielding IAEA target of the BAM's 200 t drop test facility. The three tested specimens had masses between 20 000 and 28 000 kg depending on their content mass. The tests were accompanied by various metrology, such as strain and deceleration measurements, optical three-dimensional deformation methods, leak tightness testing and test installation for potential particle release measurements to collect a set of data for establishing a basis for safety assessment. Hierfür wurde die Leistungsfähigkeit der folgenden Messverfahren hinsichtlich ihrer Aussageschärfe, Anwendungsgrenzen und Messgeschwindigkeit bei praxisnahen Randbedingungen untersucht: - Impakt-Echo, manuelle Impaktauslösung - Impakt-Echo, automatisierte Impaktauslösung - Ultraschall-Echo mit multistatischem Array - Impuls-Thermografie - Radar Als Versuchskörper dienten sechs liegend hergestellte Betonplatten der Abmessungen 200/200/30 cm aus zwei verschiedenen Betongüten und mit unterschiedlichem Bewehrungsgehalt (Bewehrungsgrade 0 %, 0 ,9 %, 2 ,6 %), von denen vier Platten auf trockenem und zwei Platten auf ständig nass gehaltenem Sand gelagert waren. Alle sechs Platten enthielten jeweils dieselben künstlich eingebrachten Fehlstellen: vier quadratische Kiesnester in unterschiedlicher Tiefe mit Kantenlängen zwischen 10 und 15 cm sowie drei oberflächennahe Hohlstellen (Ø 4/6/8 cm). Zur Erfassung eines möglichen Einflusses des Betonalters wurden die Messungen 4 Tage, 28 Tage sowie 180 Tage nach Herstellung der Platten durchgeführt. Um aus den Untersuchungen einen breiten Nutzen für die Praxis zu erzielen, basierten die eingesetzten Messverfahren auf handelsüblichen Geräten, welche jedoch bezüglich ihres Messprinzips und insbesondere der Datenerfassung und -auswertung weiterentwickelt wurden. Die Fehlstellengröße wurde bewusst klein gewählt. Mit Ausnahme des manuellen Impakt-Echo-Verfahrens, mit welchem unter Verwendung der Originalsoftware des Herstellers keine Fehlstellen nachweisbar waren, zeigten sich alle Messverfahren geeignet, unter verschiedenen Randbedingungen Gefügestörungen zu lokalisieren. Insgesamt wurde jeder Fehlstellentyp von zumindest einem Verfahren bei mindestens zwei Versuchskörpern detektiert. Es konnten jedoch an keiner Betonplatte mit einem einzelnen Messverfahren alle vorhandenen Fehlstellen an allen Messterminen geortet werden. Am häufigsten wurden die beiden großen oberflächennahen Fehlstellen (Hohlstelle Ø 8 cm, Kiesnest 10 cm) erkannt. Am schwersten zu lokalisieren waren die kleine Hohlstelle mit 4 cm Durchmesser sowie die beiden auf der Unterseite gelegenen Kiesnester. Die Untersuchungen zeigen, dass für eine erfolgreiche Anwendung zerstörungsfreier Messverfahren in der Praxis die Auswahl des am besten geeigneten Verfahrens bzw. einer Kombination verschiedener Verfahren jeweils auf die vorliegende Problemstellung abgestimmt sein muss. Für Betonbodenplatten mit hohem Feuchtegehalt (junger Beton) oder starker Bewehrung ist entweder das Ultraschall- oder das Impakt-Echo-Verfahren geeignet. Das Ultraschall-Verfahren wird von hohen Bewehrungsgehalten zwar stärker beeinflusst als das Impakt-Echo-Verfahren, besitzt aber eine bessere Auflösung und ermöglicht auch im oberflächennahen Bereich eine quantitative Bestimmung der Fehlstellentiefe. Das Impakt-Echo-Verfahren kann wegen der niederfrequenten Impulsanregung Fehlstellen erst in größeren Tiefen und mit schlechterer Auflösung nachweisen, ist aber ideal geeignet zur Bestimmung der Plattendicke aufgrund seines signifikanten Rückwandechos. Sowohl das Radar-Verfahren als auch die Impuls-Thermografie können bei hohen Feuchte- und Bewehrungsgehalten nur sehr oberflächennah eingesetzt werden. Bei trockenem Beton und geringen bis mittleren Bewehrungsgehalten liefert das Radar-Verfahren sehr gute Ergebnisse. In kurzer Zeit ermöglicht es eine flächendeckende Ortung der Tiefenlage und Größe von Inhomogenitäten bei guter Auflösungsgenauigkeit. Vorhandene Bewehrung wird deutlich abgebildet, kann aber darunterliegende Fehlstellen verschatten. Alternativ kann die Impuls-Thermografie für die Ortung oberflächennaher Gefügestörungen eingesetzt werden. Das Verfahren eignet sich insbesondere bei Oberflächen, die nicht direkt zugänglich sind, da zwischen Infrarotkamera und Messobjekt nur Sichtkontakt bestehen muss. Die Betongüte hatte bei keinem eingesetzten Verfahren einen erkennbaren Einfluss auf die Messergebnisse. Streng genommen ist dies jedoch nur für den Einfluss des Wasserzementwertes, der Zementart und des Zementgehalts bei gleichbleibender Sieblinie und gleicher Kornart gültig. Bei Verwendung von Leichtzuschlag sind abweichende Ergebnisse denkbar. Dye addition during vesicle formation leads to Phloxine B encapsulated inside the water filled vesicle core as well as to freely diffusing dye molecules. The removal of uncapsulated substrate involves time consuming methods like dialysis or harsher methods like ultra filtration or selective precipitation, posing the risk of irreversible sample manipulation. Here used Phloxine B as pH sensitive fluorescence indicator allows the characterization of hydrophilic loading without separation procedure by adjusting the pH value. Additionally membrane blocking efficiency can be studied by time dependent fluorescence measurements. Cryogenic TEM studies showed that the self-assembled structure remained unchanged when the hydrophilic dye was incorporated within the vesicles. Fluorescence microscopy imaging proved the encapsulation of the hydrophilic dye inside the core volume. The combination of fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements as ensemble methods confirmed those results additionally.
