T1 - Validierung des Schüttelverfahrens DIN 19527 für organische Schadstoffe N2 - Die im Jahre 1999 in Kraft getretene Bundes-Bodenschutz- und Altlastenverordnung (BBodSchV) befindet sich gegenwärtig in der Phase der Novellierung. Darüber hinaus ist die Einführung einer Ersatzbaustoffverordnung zur Verwertung mineralischer Abfälle vorgesehen. Beide Verordnungen erfordern für eine Gefahrenbeurteilung Prüfwerte, die auf der Grundlage validierter Elutionsverfahren hergeleitet sind. Im DIN-Normenausschuss NA 119-01-02-05 UA „Elutionsverfahren“ wurden Anfang 2009 zwei Normen zur Elution von Feststoffen verabschiedet. DIN 19528 beinhaltet ein Säulenverfahren zur grundlegenden Charakterisierung und für die Übereinstimmungsuntersuchung sowohl für anorganische Stoffe als auch für organische Stoffe (nur polyzyklische aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe - PAK) und DIN 19529 ein Schüttelverfahren für anorganische Stoffe mit einem Wasser- Feststoffverhältnis von 2 l/kg. Beide Normen wurden auf der Grundlage von Ringversuchen validiert. Die Diskussion zur Erarbeitung eines Schüttelverfahrens für organische Stoffe verlief zunächst äußerst konträr. Auf Initiative von Kördel wurde zur Erarbeitung von E DIN 19527 (Schüttelverfahren für organische Stoffe mit einem Wasser-/Feststoffverhältnis von 2 l/kg) ein Ringversuch organisiert, bei dem zwar unterschiedliche Bodenarten Berücksichtigung fanden, die organischen Schadstoffe aber auf PAK beschränkt blieben. In einem Forschungsvorhaben zur Bewertung der Robustheit von E DIN 19527 zeigte sich, dass eine einfache Übertragung der Ergebnisse mit PAK-belasteten Böden auf andere Schadstoffgruppen nicht ohne Weiteres möglich ist. Für beide o. g. Verordnungen war es somit erforderlich, das Schüttelverfahren auch für weitere prioritäre organische Schadstoffgruppen wie Mineralölkohlenwasserstoffe (MKW), polychlorierte Biphenyle (PCB) und Phenole in Böden und Bodenmaterialien zu validieren. The risk assessment of PAH impact to groundwater can be performed using leaching tests. Therby a liquid–solid separation step including centrifugation may be required, which in turn might lead to loss of analytes due to sorption on the equipment. Thus we determined the PAH recoveries from various container materials (polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polytetraflourethylene (PTFE), stainless steel (ES), and perflouroalkoxy (PFA)) and compared them to selected PAH properties. We found the best recoveries for PFA (68%) and PTFE (65%) containers. We found good negative correlations (-0.93 and better) between PAH recovery and log partition coefficient organic carbon–water (log KOC) for PFA, PTFE, and ES containers. Ziel des Vorhabens war es, auf der Grundlage geeigneter Testmaterialien (mit prioritären organischen Schadstoffen kontaminierte Böden und Bodenmaterialien) Ringversuche zur Validierung des Schüttelverfahrens nach E DIN 19527 und des Säulenverfahrens für die Übereinstimmungs-untersuchung nach DIN 19528 durchzuführen. Auf der Grundlage der Untersuchungsergebnisse sollten beide Normen bezüglich der Vorgehensweise präzisiert werden und es sollten die während des Ringversuchs ermittelten Verfahrenskenndatenn zur Validierung der Normen herangezogen werden. Darüber hinaus sollten Säulen- und Schüttelverfahren als Übereinstimmungstest vergleichend bewertet werden. Es wurden vier geeignete Ringversuchsmaterialien hergestellt und an insgesamt 18 Ringversuchsteilnehmer ausgegeben. Die Auswertung der Ringversuche erfolgte auf der Grundlage klassischer Statistik nach DIN ISO 5725 mit Hilfe der AuswertesoftwareProLab 2011 (quo data). Auf der Grundlage der Validierungsringversuche wurden die Verfahrenskenndaten für die Norm DIN 19527 ermittelt. Die statistische Auswertung der eingereichten Datensätze war aufgrund der großen Streubreite der Daten schwierig. Die vorgeschriebenen statistischen Methoden zur Datenauswertung adressieren die Behandlung nicht gleichverteilter Datensätze nur ungenügend. Das muss bei der Bewertung der Ergebnisse und deren Zuverlässigkeit berücksichtigt werden. Generell kann festgestellt werden, dass keine signifikanten Unterschiede zwischen den Ergebnissen der Schüttel- und Säulenelution beobachtet werden. Dabei werden beim Schüttelverfahren tendenziell etwas geringere Gesamtmittelwerte erzielt als beim Säulenverfahren, die berechneten Vergleichsvariationskoeffizienten sind für das Schüttelverfahren meist etwas niedriger. Dennoch erweisen sich beide Elutionsverfahren bei den eingesetzten Ringversuchsmaterialien als gut vergleichbar. N2 - Validated investigation methods are required for the drafted decree, called “Mantelverordnung”, comprising the amendment of the Federal Ordinance on Soil Protection and Contaminated Sites, the Federal Ordinance on Mineral Waste Utilization and Groundwater Ordinance published by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety in January 2011. These methods include such for the creation of aqueous eluates, which contribute to the evaluation of the mobility of pollutants and the derivation of threshold values. Objectives of the R&D project were interlaboratory tests for the validation of the batch test (E DIN 19527) and the column test using the compliance test option according to DIN 19528 based on contaminated soil test materials with organic pollutants of high priority. Dependent on the test results both standards should be specified concerning the experimental details. Furthermore, the standards shall be validated using the determined performance characteristics. The comparability of column and batch test procedures as compliance tests shall be evaluated in addition. Four appropriate test materials were prepared from two different types of soils, each with the pollutant combinations PAH/PCB and Phenols/TPH/PAH, respectively. These materials were delivered along with test solutions to 18 participants of the interlaboratory comparision. The evaluation of the interlaboratory comparison was carried out on the basis of classical statistics according to DIN ISO 5725. The software ProLab 2011 (quodata) was used for the evaluation. The performance characteristic parameters for the standard DIN 19527 were determined on the basis of the interlaboratory tests. The main challenge was the statistical evaluation due to the fact that the common statistical procedures do not address the evaluation of nonuniformly distributed datasets. This must be considered for the assessment of the results and reliability of the conclusions. However, on a more general level it can be concluded that no significant differences between the batch and column percolation test procedure were observed. The total mean values determined by batch tests tend to be slightly below the values from column tests. The between labvariation coefficients representing the reproducibility of the methods follow the same trend. All in all both methods can be assessed to be equivalent using the materials tested. The spent fluorescent lamps were obtained at the collection yards of a public waste management company in Hamburg, Germany. An innovative systematic sampling method is utilized to collect six spent and eight corresponding new, off-the-shelf fluorescent lamp samples. The efficiency of several acid digestion methods for the determination of the elemental composition was studied and elemental mass fractions of K, Na, Y, Ca, Ba, Eu, Al, Pb, Mg, Hg, and P were measured. The study also finds aqua regia to be the best reagent for acid digestion. However, no significant difference in mercury distribution was found in the different phases of the new and spent fluorescent lamps. The aim of this study was to understand the microbial processes involved in mine-gas formation. Therefore, coal and timber samples and anaerobic enrichments from two abandoned coal mines in Germany were subjected to DGGE analyses and quantitative PCR. The primers used were specific for Bacteria, Archaea, Fungi, and the key functional genes for sulfate reduction (dsrA) and methanogenesis (mcrA). A broad spectrum of facultative anaerobic bacteria and acetogens belonging to all five groups (α-ε) of the Proteobacteria, as well as the Bacteroidetes, Tenericutes, Actinobacteria, Chlorobi and Chloroflexi were detected. Archaea were represented by acetoclastic Methanosarcinales and Crenarchaeota with an unknown metabolism. Fungi formed thick biofilms particularly on timber, and were identified as typical wood degraders belonging to the Ascomycetes and Basidiomycetes. The community analysis as well as the environmental conditions and the metabolites detected in a previous study are consistent with the following scenario of methane release: Weathering of coal and timber is initiated by wood-degrading Fungi and Bacteria under a suboxic atmosphere. In the lower, oxygen-depleted layers Fungi and Bacteria perform incomplete oxidation and release reduced substrates which can be channeled into methanogenesis. Acetate appeared to be the main precursor of the biogenic methane in the investigated coal mines. T1 - Multimodal ex vivo methods reveal that Gd-rich corrosion byproducts remain at the implant site of biodegradable Mg-Gd screws N2 - Extensive research is being conducted on magnesium (Mg) alloys for bone implant manufacturing, due to their biocompatibility, biodegradability and mechanical properties. Gadolinium (Gd) is among the most promising alloying elements for property control in Mg alloy implants; however, its toxicity is contro- versial. Investigating Gd behavior during implant corrosion is thus of utmost importance. In this study, we analyzed the degradation byproducts at the implant site of biodegradable Mg-5Gd and Mg-10Gd implants after 12 weeks healing time, using a combination of different imaging techniques: histology, energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX), x-ray microcomputed tomography (μCT) and neutron μCT. The main finding has been that, at the healing time in exam, the corrosion appears to have involved only the Mg component, which has been substituted by calcium and phosphorus, while the Gd remains localized at the implant site. This was observed in 2D by means of EDX maps and extended to 3D with a novel application of neutron tomography. X-ray fluorescence analysis of the main excretory organs also did not reveal any measurable accumulation of Gd, further reinforcing the conclusion that very limited or no removal at all of Gd-alloy happened during degradation. Polyethers have been demonstrated to be highly efficient in this respect on smooth surfaces. Here, we investigate the grafting of oligo- and polyglycerols to rough poly(ether imide) membranes as a polymer relevant to biomedical applications and show the reduction of protein and thrombocyte adhesion as well as thrombocyte activation. It could be demonstrated that, by performing surface grafting with oligo- and polyglycerols of relatively high polydispersity (>1.5) and several reactive groups for surface anchoring, full surface shielding can be reached, which leads to reduced protein adsorption of albumin and fibrinogen. In addition, adherent thrombocytes were not activated. This could be clearly shown by immunostaining adherent proteins and analyzing the thrombocyte covered area. The presented work provides an important strategy for the development of application relevant hemocompatible 3D structured materials. T1 - CuInSe2-based micro-concentrator solar cells fabricated from In islands grown by laser-assisted MO-CVD N2 - Micro-concentrator solar cells offer a promising route for reducing material usage in photovoltaics. For Cu(In,Ga)Se2, multiple micro-concentrator manufacturing methods have already been evaluated. All of them involve either high preparation complexity or post-processing to recycle unused precursor or absorber materials. In this work, a new method using laser-assisted metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (LA-MOCVD) was applied to directly grow arrays of indium micro-islands. These arrays are examined and further processed to CuInSe2 micro-solar cell arrays. The geometry and morphology of the islands were investigated and compared before and after absorber formation. The investigation shows that the absorber growth is limited to the vertical direction normal to the substrate surface and that the starting morphology is preserved. Furthermore, the absorber island arrays are processed into micro-modules and operational solar cells are achieved as a proof of principle. These not yet optimized arrays reach a conversion efficiency of 0.65% under 1 sun illumination. Under 17 suns of light concentration, the efficiency gain is between 60 and 250%. This work demonstrates the method's viability for the fabrication of micro-solar cell arrays, with clear potential for achieving higher conversion efficiencies through future optimization. The recycled rubber may contain organic and inorganic pollutants due to the presence of vulcanisation catalysts, stabilisers and other additives which can be released into soil and groundwater in the case of outdoor sports facilities. In order to evaluate the amount of potentially mobile pollutants, leaching tests can be employed. This study aimed particularly at the investigation of the feasibility of column tests using complete synthetic surface flooring or turf system assemblies. The release of zinc and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) leached from components of sports surfaces containing recycled rubber granules was considered. Additionally, batch tests on coated and uncoated styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) granules aged by artificial weathering were performed to indicate its possible influence on the leaching behaviour of zinc and PAH. The chosen approach of column tests simulating typical complete synthetic sports surface installations has been proven to be feasible and robust. The time-dependent leaching behaviour and interactions between single components can be evaluated by column tests. Zinc was the most relevant contaminant in the eluates and its leachability was enhanced after accelerated ageing by artificial weathering. Two distinct types of fs-LIPSS [so-called low-spatial-frequency LIPSS (LSFL) and high-spatial-frequency LIPSS (HSFL)] with different spatial periods and orientations were identified. Their appearance was characterized with respect to the experimental parameters peak laser fluence and number of laser pulses per spot. Additionally, the 'dynamics' of the LIPSS formation was addressed in complementary double-fs-pulse experiments with varying delays, revealing a characteristic change of the LSFL periods. The experimental results are interpreted on the basis of a Sipe-Drude model considering the carrier dependence of the optical properties of fs-laser excited silica. This new approach provides an explanation of the LSFL orientation parallel to the laser beam polarisation in silica—as opposed to the behaviour of most other materials. For that purpose, a Michelson interferometer was used to generate near-equal-energy double-pulse sequences allowing the temporal pulse delay between the parallel-polarized individual fs-laser pulses to be varied between 0 and 40 ps with ~0.2 ps temporal resolution. The surface morphologies of the irradiated surface areas were characterized by means of scanning electron and scanning force microscopy. In the sub-ps delay range a strong decrease of the LIPSS periods and the ablation crater depths with the double-pulse delay was observed indicating the importance of the laser-induced free-electron plasma in the conduction band of the solids for the formation of LIPSS. Data on the hazards of gas emissions and released heat are related to each other and differentiated by cell properties such as, cell geometry, cathode type or state of charge. Quantitative information on the total heat release in the range of 2.0–112.0 kJ Wh−1, the peak heat release rate in the range of 0.006–2.8 kW Wh−1and the smoke gas emission were extracted, normalized in terms of cell energy (Wh), combined in a data library and compared graphically. The total amount of gas emitted (3–48 mmol Wh−1) as well as the released amount of carbon monoxide (1–161 mg Wh−1) and hydrogen fluoride (2–197 mg Wh−1) were investigated as a function of the state of charge and cell geometry. The analysis reveals that the measured values are significantly influenced by the types of calorimeters and smoke gas analyzers used as well as by the type of thermal runaway trigger. This meta-analysis can serve as an important basis for any risk assessment of lithium-ion batteries.
