A1 - Bastian, Martin A1 - Schartel, Bernhard T1 - Halogen-free Multicomponent Flame Retardant Thermoplastic Styrene-Ethylene-Butylene-Styrene Elastomers Based on Ammonium Polyphosphate – Expandable Graphite Synergy N2 - Developing flame retarded thermoplastic elastomers (TPES) based on styrene−ethylene−butylene−styrene, polypropylene, and mineral oil is a challenging task because of their very high fire loads and flammability. A promising approach is the synergistic combination of expandable graphite (EG) and ammonium polyphosphate (APP). Cone calorimetry, oxygen index, and UL 94 classification were applied. The optimal EG:APP ratio is 3:1, due to the most effective fire residue morphology. Exchanging APP with melamine-coated APPm yielded crucial improvement in fire properties, whereas replacing EG/APP with melamine polyphosphate did not. Adjuvants, such as aluminum diethyl phosphinate (AlPi), zinc borate, melamine cyanurate, titanium dioxide, dipentaerylthritol, diphenyl-2-ethyl phosphate, boehmite, SiO2, chalk, and talcum, were tested. All flame retardants reinforced the TPE-S. The combination with AlPi is proposed, because with 30 wt % flame retardants a maximum averaged rate of heat emission below 200 kW m−2 and a V-0 rating was achieved. Multicomponent EG/APP/adjuvants systems are proposed as a suitable route to achieve efficient halogen-free flame retarded TPE-S. Recently superglassy polymers with high free volume outperform many conventional dense polymers in terms of gas permeability and selectivity. However, such polymers are prone to pronounced physical aging, resulting in a dramatic reduction in the gas permeability. Molecular mobility of polymer segments plays an important role in the physical aging and the gas transport performance of polymeric membranes. Molecular mobility and physical aging of a representative superglassy polynorbornene with very high gas permeability, PTCNSi2g, was monitored by using dielectric spectroscopy with state-of-the-art high-resolution analyzers. This work helps to shed some light on the structure−property relationship of superglassy polymers on a molecular level and to provide practical “design rules” for the development of high performance polymers for gas separation. At higher concentrations phase separation yields composites with a PBAC-rich matrix and POSS-rich domains which posses well shaped interfaces. The nanocomposites were also investigated with respect to their gas transport behaviour. An increase of the gas permeability was found at higher PhenethylPOSS concentrations, which is due to the phase separated structure. Hierbei werden Sender und Empfänger auf einer Bauteilseite angekoppelt, was eine große Anwendungsvielfalt ermöglicht. T1 - Primary hazards and reliability of protective materials N2 - Femtosecond laser pulses are close to industrial use. The advantages of ultrashort laser pulses for micromachining applications especially in the case of dielectric and biological samples down to pulse durations of 5 fs have been established. The current international standards of laser safety are primarily concerned with CW and pulsed lasers down to the nanosecond range. Therefore, human tissue and laser-protection equipment was investigated with respect to its resistance and protection performance for femtosecond laser illumination down to 30 fs. This included filter glasses for laser protection eyewear, polymer and textile materials used in curtains and guards. Bulk absorber filters can provide enough protection against laser radiation, give a sufficiently broad absorption spectrum. Materials are damaged more easily by femtosecond laser radiation. The need for sufficient spectral broadness as well as the different damage thresholds have to be included in international laser safety standards. This work should trigger the development of novel eye-protection devices that are lighter and ergonomically more acceptable than present commercial models. It has been found and analysed in several foods and feeds. Owing to its toxicity and occurrence in food and feed, the European Community has issued directives and some countries have their own regulations for OTA contents in food, feed and beverages. This work describes a method for the determination of OTA in mulled and red wine. It is based on combined anion exchange/reversed-phase clean-up and was analysed by liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (multiple reaction monitoring). The method was validated with natural contaminated and spiked wine samples with OTA contents from 1.34 to 3.48 g kg–1.
