V. - Betontechnik N2 - ln den letzten Jahren wurden diverse Prüfverfahren und Methoden entwickelt, um die Leistungsfähigkeit von Beton bzw. Bindemittel hinsichtlich des Widerstands gegenüber betonaggressiven Einwirkungen beurteilen zu können. Ein wesentliches Ziel von Prüfverfahren zur Beurteilung der Dauerhaftigkeit von Baustoffen ist, die im Laufe der Nutzungsdauer zu erwartenden Einwirkungen auf den Baustoff realitätsnah abzubilden. Dazu sind die Prüfparameter auf die im jeweiligen Anwendungsbereich vorherrschenden Umgebungs- und Randbedingungen anzupassen. Daneben sind auch die Bewertungskriterien individuell unter Berücksichtigung der im Einzelfall geforderten Nutzungsdauer eines Bauwerks festzulegen. Eine systematische Zuordnung von adäquaten Prüfverfahren bzw. Prüfparametem und Bewertungskriterien für die verschiedenen Anwendungsbereiche im Betonbau, in denen betonaggressive Einwirkungen auftreten, ist mit Ausnahme von Einzelfällen bislang nicht vorhanden. Daneben stellt sich in der Praxis immer wieder das Problem, das Angriffspotenzial der Umgebung eines Bauwerks (prüftechnisch) zu erfassen und zu bewerten. Der Hauptausschuss Baustofftechnik des DBV hat daher den Arbeitskreis „Chemischer Angriff auf Beton“ beauftragt, dieses Merkblatt zu erarbeiten, das auf Basis von einschlägigen Erfahrungen der Baupraxis und wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen Grundsätze und bewährte Methoden zur Beurteilung der Einwirkungs- und Widerstandsseite beim chemischen Angriff auf Beton aufzeigt und diesbezüglich Hinweise für verschiedene Anwendungsbereiche im Betonbau liefert. T1 - Results from a round robin test for the ecotoxicological evaluation of construction products using two leaching tests and an aquatic test battery JF - Chemosphere N2 - A European round robin test according to ISO 5725-2 was conceptually prepared, realised, and evaluated. The aim was to determine the inter-laboratory variability of the overall process for the ecotoxicological characterization of construction products in eluates and bioassays. To this end, two construction products BAM-G1 (granulate) and HSR-2 (roof sealing sheet), both made of EPDM polymers (rubber), were selected. The granular construction product was eluted in a one stage batch test, the planar product in the Dynamic Surface Leaching test (DSLT). A total of 17 laboratories from 5 countries participated in the round robin test: Germany (12), Austria (2), Belgium (1), Czech Republic (1) and France (1). A test battery of four standardised ecotoxicity tests with algae, daphnia, luminescent bacteria and zebrafish eggs was used. As toxicity measures, EC50 and LID values were calculated. All tests, except the fish egg test, were basically able to demonstrate toxic effects and the level of toxicity. The reproducibility of test results depended on the test specimens and the test organisms. Generally, the variability of the EC50 or LID values increased with the overall level of toxicity. For the very toxic BAM-G1 eluate a relative high variability of CV ¼ 73%e110% was observed for EC50 in all biotests, while for the less toxic HSR-2 eluate the reproducibility of EC50 varied with sensitivity: it was very good (CV ¼ 9.3%) for the daphnia test with the lowest sensitivity, followed by the algae test (CV ¼ 36.4%). The luminescent bacteria test, being the most sensitive bioassay for HSR-2 Eluate, showed the highest variability (CV ¼ 74.8%). When considering the complex overall process the reproducibility of bioassays with eluates from construction products was acceptable. T1 - New crystalline aluminium alkoxide oxide fluorides: evidence of the mechanism of the fluorolytic sol-gel reaction JF - Dalton transactions N2 - This study reports three new crystalline aluminum isopropoxide oxide fluorides with molar ratios of Al:F equal to 1:1 and 1:1.25. These are the first three representatives isolated without the incorporation of external donor molecules. Compound 1 Al4F4(µ4-O)(µ-O'Pr)5[H(O'Pr)2] contains a tetranuclear unit consisting of two different five fold coordinated AlFO4-units, with F exclusively in the terminal position. Compound 2, Al4F4(µ4-O)(µ-O'Pr)5[H(O'Pr)2]·Al5F5(µ5-O)(µ-O'Pr)8, contains both a tetranuclear unit (as in 1) and a pentanuclear Al-unit. Al-atoms in the latter are five- and six fold coordinated. Compound 3, Al16F20(µ4-O)4(µ-O'Pr)20·2('PrOH), exhibits a slightly higher fluorination degree and contains an oligomeric chain of four F-linked tetranuclear Al-units. In addition to X-ray structure analysis, compound 1 was characterized by different solid state MAS NMR techniques, including 27Al triple quantum MAS NMR and 1H, 1H→13C CP, 19F and 27Al MAS NMR. On the basis of the collected data, a reliable decomposition of 27Al single pulse MAS NMR spectra and an unambiguous assignment of the resonances to the respective structural AlFO4-units are given. The new crystalline aluminum isopropoxide oxide fluorides are direct evidence of the fluorolytic sol–gel mechanism previously discussed. T1 - Crystalline Aluminium Hydroxy Fluorides: Structural Insights Obtained by High Field Solid State NMR and Trend Analyses JF - The journal of physical chemistry / C N2 - A series of crystalline aluminum hydroxy fluorides in cubic pyrochlore structure AlFx(OH)3-x·H2O with variable F-content x were investigated by solid-state NMR by applying different magnetic fields up to 21.1 T. Distinguishable octahedral species AlFx(OH)6-x (x = 1-6) were identified in the crystalline aluminum hydroxy fluorides. The subsequent analysis of the highfield 27Al MAS NMR data allows the derivation of the trend analysis graphs giving correlations between the 27Al chemical shifts and the quadrupolar frequencies and the F-content x in AlFx(OH)6-x. Clear trends were obtained for both, which are, along with the 19F MAS chemical-shift trend analysis presented earlier, valuable tools for the interpretation of MAS NMR spectra of amorphous AlFx(OX)3-x compounds (X = H, alkyl). Following the dehydration of the pyrochlores by solid-state NMR eventually reveals a remarkable influence of the incorporated solvent molecules (H2O) on the 19F chemical shift. On that basis, a new chemical-shift trend analysis for 19F chemical shifts in correlation with x in AlFx(OH)6-x units for proton-poor substances (in the Al, F, O, H system) was determined. By using this correlation, high-surface AlF3 has a mean bulk Al:F ratio similar to that found for ACF, namely, AlF2.8(O/OH)0.2. T1 - Occurrence of rhizobia in the gut of the higher termite Nasutitermes nigriceps JF - Systematic and applied microbiology N2 - Wood-eating termites feed on a diet highly deficient in nitrogen. They must complement their diet with the aid of nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Nitrogen fixation in the gut has been demonstrated, but information about nitrogen-fixing bacteria in pure culture is scarce. From the higher termite Nasutitermes nigriceps the symbiotic bacterial strain M3A was isolated, which thrives in the hindgut contents. The Gram-negative strain exhibited similarities to the species of the genus Ensifer (including Sinorhizobium) on the basis of morphological and physiological/biochemical features. The 16S rRNA gene analysis showed the highest sequence similarity of the isolate M3A to Ensifer adhaerens (>99%; ATCC 33499). The DNA–DNA hybridization revealed a similarity of 66% with E. adhaerens (NCIMB12342T). In contrast to the type strain the isolate M3A possesses the capacity to nodulate plant roots. This is the first report on the detailed identification of a rhizobia-related strain from the intestinal tract of animals. Strain M3A has been deposited with two culture collections (DSM10169; ATCC BAA-396).
