Utilising bio-based resources like polysaccharides, pozzolanic ashes from agricultural waste, and bio-based fibres and aggregates can reduce carbon footprints. However, implementation is hindered by standards favouring scarce and traditionally European materials like fly ash and slag. This highlights the need to diversify resource streams to benefit the global South's abundance of bio-based resources and arable land.
