Exhibit display cases should protect cultural objects from dust as well as from mechanical and physical damage. To ensure a stable climate inside the display cases, a low air exchange rate is operated. Typically air exchange rates are often smaller than 0.1 d'1 (Torge, 2000). Furthermore display cases are often operated with constant temperature and relative humidity. A relative humidity for parchment, leather, wooden sculptures of e.g. 60 % (Stolow, 1988) is suited for the protection of exhibits against external influences like fluctuation of humidity and temperature. Several investigations Show that harmful (semi-) volatile organic Compounds ((S)VOC) can emit from fumiture and building products into indoor air. Additionally, a significant impact of (S)VOC on the human health is also given (Boeglin et al., 2005). To assess the health impact and air quality, reliable and significant measurements and analytical procedures for the detection of contaminants in indoor air are necessary. Several studies show that the results from inter-Iaboratory round robin test for such (S)VOC measurements show considerable variations up to 300 % (Howard-Reed et al., 2007). Therefore standardisations of Methods for sample preparation, air sampling and for the measurement of (S)VOC emissions are important to get reproducible results. MACPoll (Metrology for Chemical pollutants in air) is one section ofthe environment call of EMRP (European Metrology Research Projekt) and aims to improve the analysis of gaseous pollutants in air. By investigate the traceability for the measurement of (S)VOC in indoor air one part of this project deals with the addressed problems.
