To achieve such objectives, it is required to assess structures over their entire lifecycles. Non-destructive testing (NDT) methods can reliably support the assessment of existing structures during the construction, operational, and decommissioning phases. One of the most important and safety-relevant components of a prestressed concrete structure are the tendons. NDT methods such as the ultrasonic echo method are suitable for both the detection and the localization of the tendons, i.e., the measurement of their geometrical position inside the component. The uniqueness of structures, concrete heterogeneity, and varying amounts of secondary components such as the reinforcement represent obstacles in the application of these methods in practice. The aim of this contribution is to demonstrate a practicable procedure, that can be used in the field to determine the parameters required for the measuring data analysis without extensive knowledge about the investigated components. For this purpose, a polyamide reference specimen is used to show which steps are required to obtain reliable imaging information on the position of tendons from the measurement data. The procedure is then demonstrated on a concrete test specimen that covers various relevant and practice-oriented test scenarios, such as varying tendon depths and component thicknesses. When externally discernible damages are observed during visual inspections on the structure, the extent of the damage inside the concrete is often already significant. Corrosion caused by carbonation often leads to severe discoloration of the surface or even large-area spalling of the concrete cover. In contrast, chloride-induced corrosion is usually difficult to observe visually but can cause much more serious damage in less time. The effect occurs locally and can lead to weakening of the cross-section of the reinforce-ment. This, in turn, can cause sudden structural collapses without prior notice. In the meanwhile, various non-destructive and minimally invasive testing methods are available to evaluate the resistance to penetration of corrosion-pro-moting pollutants and to detect active corrosion. In this paper, a bridge crossing the river Regen is used as a case-study to demonstrate how the information ob-tained applying different testing methods can be combined and evaluated in the context of structural reassessments. Both the results of the permeability testing and the electrical resistance measurement are considered, as well as active corro-sion areas are localized using the half-cell potential mapping combined with the concrete cover measurement with the eddy current method and ground penetrat-ing radar. The results are evaluated using drill cores and in addition laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy was applied to obtain information about possible chlo-ride ion transport into the concrete. The specified regulatory tests cover severe accidents and demonstrate the package containment system integrity. Special attention must be drawn to the behaviour of the content which could move inside the package due to unpreventable gaps caused by the loading procedure and the structure of the content. A possible internal impact of the content which occurs during the drop tests onto the lid system is investigated. The IAEA regulations SSR-6 and the Guidance SSG-26, revised recently, consider input from Germany and France related to the significance of internal gaps. In the context of a waste package design assessment, a model was equipped with a representative content to conduct a drop test with an internal impact. The weight and kinetic impact of this content covered all possible real contents. The objective of the test was to maximize the load onto the lid system and to prove the mechanical integrity by complying with the required leak tightness. The test was conducted conservatively at a package temperature lower than -40 °C at the BAM Test Site Technical Safety. This paper gives an overview of efforts to address internal gaps and their consequences, and the BAM efforts with the implementation of this topic into IAEA regulations and guidance material. Weitere Effizienzsteigerungen können durch additives Fertigen sowie bionische Bauweisen erreicht werden. Kommerzielle hochfeste Zusatzwerkstoffe für additives MSG-Schweißen (engl.: Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing, WAAM) sind bereits von den Schweißzusatzherstellern lieferbar. Derzeit ist jedoch eine breite industrielle Anwendung insbesondere für KMU aufgrund fehlender quantitativer Erkenntnisse und Richtlinien bezüglich schweißbedingter Beanspruchungen und Bauteilsicherheit während der Herstellung und des Betriebs stark limitiert. In einem gemeinsamen Forschungsprojekt (FOSTA-P1380/IGF21162BG) der BAM und der TU Chemnitz werden die mit Eigenspannungsausbildung und der Gefahr einer Kaltrissbildung verbundenen prozess- und werkstoffbedingten sowie konstruktiven Einflüsse untersucht. Im Fokus dieser Analysen steht die Bestimmung der Wechselwirkungen zwischen WAAM-Prozessparametern bzw. der Wärmeführung auf das Gefüge und die Eigenspannungen. Hierfür werden Referenzproben als offene Hohlquader mit definierten Abmessungen vollautomatisiert mit einem speziellen, hochfesten WAAM-Massivdraht (Streckgrenze >790 MPa) geschweißt. Die gezielte Einstellung der geometrischen Eigenschaften erfolgt durch Schweißparameter und Nahtaufbau bei ca. 4 kg/h mittlerer Abschmelzleistung. Die Wärmeführung wird innerhalb eines statistischen Versuchsplanes mittels Streckenenergie (200 kJ/m bis 650 kJ/m) und Zwischenlagentemperatur (100 °C bis 300 °C) so variiert, dass die t8/5-Abkühlzeiten dem empfohlenen Verarbeitungsbereich entsprechen (ca. 5 s bis 20 s). Ziel ist es bei konstanten geometrisch-konstruktiven Randbedingungen, den Einfluss der Wärmeführung auf Gefüge und resultierende Eigenspannungen zu analysieren. Für die Streckenenergie können neben den Gefügeeinflüssen aufgrund der resultierenden Abkühlzeit deutliche Effekte insbesondere auf die lokalen Eigenspannungen im Bauteil belegt werden. Das Schweißen mit zu hoher Wärmeeinbringung bzw. Abschmelzleistung kann zu ungünstigen Gefüge- und Bauteileigenschaften führen, gleichzeitig jedoch niedrigere Zugeigenspannungsniveaus bewirken. This regulation severely limits the use of alkali-sensitive aggregates by requiring that their suitability be verified by certified inspectors using newly developed AAR concrete tests that involve the external supply of alkali. This has led to a significant limitation in the number of aggregates usable for concrete pavements. A novel AAR avoidance strategy is now being pursued, which aims to enable the use of borderline alkali-sensitive aggregates through the application of an internal water-repellent treatment. The addition of water repellents during concrete production should significantly reduce the ingress of water and external de-icing salts into the concrete pavement, thus reducing the potential for AAR damage. This paper presents the results of laboratory tests to assess the suitability of this new AAR prevention strategy. Representative, highly AAR-susceptible road paving concrete made with an alkali- sensitive greywacke and various water repellents were used as the basis for these experiments. The tests for concrete suitability included determining the conventional fresh and hardened concrete properties as well as concrete prism tests with external alkaline supply. Building on these results, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) analyses of de-icing-salt intrusion as well as microscopic examinations for verification of the AAR characteristics were carried out. Therefore, the expansion of concrete specimens indicates an alkalisensitivity. In Germany these tests are performed at 40°C or accelerated 60°C. Nevertheless, ASR prism tests are expensive, power and time-consuming. For these reasons, an alternative chemical test (“mod. BTU-test”) was developed in the past. The “mod. BTU-test” was correlated with German standard CPT. In this test, the solubility of silica and alumina in the liquid phase is measured by ICP-OES. For special requirements in concrete road construction, stricter test procedures are necessary. The specimens are repeatedly subjected to cyclic alternating storage in NaCl. On the one hand, the presence of NaCl increases the ASR expansion, on the other hand NaCl also changes the dissolution behaviour of silica and alumina. For now is not possible to correlate the solubilities of “mod. BTU-test” and ASR expansions influenced by NaCl. Therefore, four aggregates with different ASR sensitivities were chosen and ASR concrete prism tests (in addition with NaCl) have been performed. According to the “mod. BTU-test” the solubilities of silica and alumina in presence of different NaCl concentrations were measured. This paper is about the regression analysis of silica and alumina dissolution and ASR expansion tests in presence of NaCl. The regression analysis shows the influence of a quasi-continuous and an interrupted cyclic alternating storage. Additionally the effects of temperature and NaCl concentration are investigated. In the end, a suitable NaCl concentration of the “mod. BTU-test” for dissolution experiments is recommended. The “mod. For these tests, the specimens are stored in an ASR-provoking environment, where the reaction is accelerated by elevated temperature and humidity. To measure the length change, the storage must be interrupted for at least a few minutes. Düring the 60 °C Concrete Prism Test (60 °C-CPT), the specimens are cooled down to 20 °C for 24 hours, to ensure the same hygrothermal conditions for every measurement. This limits the number of measurements during the test period and may lead to additional effects, that probably influence the expansion development. With a recently developed device, it is possible to continuously monitor the expansion ofprisms without interrupting the ASR-provoking storage. Due to the dense database of this automated test, the results can contribute to a better understanding of the ASR-process. This study compares results of the automated and conventional 60 °C-CPT. Tests of different aggregates showed, that the results of the automated and conventional test are consistent, but the expansions during the conventional test are generally higher. Preliminary results led to the conclusion, that the cooling for the measurements leads to additional expansions. Therefore, a modified threshold should be discussed for the automated 60 °C-CPT. Within the following 10 years, clandestine and legal excavations revealed some 900 highly fragmented manuscripts from the late Second Temple period. This collection is generally known as Scrolls of the Judea Desert or Dead Sea Scrolls (DSS). For many years after their discovery, text analysis and fragmeents attribution were the main concern of the scholars dealing with the scrolls. The uncertain archaeological provenance of the larger part of the collection added an additional difficulty to the formidable task of sorting some 19000 fragments. After 60 years of scholar research the question of origin, archaeological provenance and correct attribution of the fragmenst are still hotly debated. To dtermine a possible contribution to the debate from the point of view of writing materials, we used otpical and electron microscopy, various X-ray based techniques as well as vibratiional sprectroscopy. We validated our approach with SY - based studies using the advantages of the synchroton radiation source with respect to the benchtop devices. Our laboratory studies showed that often production and storage locality could be distinguished thenks to the specific residues ("fingerprint") they left on the material. Moreover, we have diescovered that diferrent parchment production processses coexisted in the antiquity, and the resulting writing materials can readily be distinguished. Weltkrieg, wie bei anderen Kunstwerken auch, tiefe Spuren hinterlassen. Der Erhalt dieser zwischen 1847 und 1857 aufgestellten Skulpturen und vieler vergleichbarer Objekte im Stadtbild ist durch die auch heute weiter fortschreitende Schädigung des Marmors gefährdet. In den Jahren 2006 bis 2010 förderte die Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) ein Projekt zur „Entwicklung und Überprüfung von Einhausungssystemen zur Reduzierung umweltbedingter Schädigungen von außenexponierten Marmorobjekten mit dem Ziel des langfristigen Erhalts in situ an einem national bedeutenden Objektkomplex, den Schlossbrückenfiguren unter den Linden, Berlin“. Geleitet und restauratorisch betreut wurde das Projekt durch das Landesdenkmalamt (LDA) Berlin. Durch die Abteilung Strukturgeologie und Geodynamik (GZG) der Georg-August Universität Göttinnen wurden die Verwitterungsmechanismen des Marmors untersucht und auf dieser Basis Anforderungen an das Schutzsystem formuliert. Anhand von numerischen Simulationen des Instituts für Bauklimatik der Technischen Universität Dresden (TUD) wurde das bauphysikalische Konzept des Einhausungssystems optimiert. Die konstruktive Gestaltung eines Prototyps und des finalen Entwurfs erfolgte durch das Fachgebiet Konstruktives Entwerfen und Tragwerkslehre der Universität der Künste Berlin. Durch den Fachbereich Baustoffe der BAM erfolgten die Realisierung des Prototyps der Einhausung sowie ein umfangreiches Klimamonitoring an den Skulpturen. Anhand dieses interdisziplinären Projektes und ergänzt durch weitere Messungen wird gezeigt, mit welchen Methoden die für die Degradation von Marmor relevanten Mechanismen untersucht werden können. Die Erkenntnisse aus dem Projekt sind die Grundlage für die Entwicklung nachhaltiger Pflege- und Schutzkonzepte für die kulturhistorisch wertvollen Skulpturen. Nur mit solchen modernen konservatorischen Programmen können die Originalskulpturen im Berliner Stadtraum erlebbar bleiben. While a seal exchange at defined intervals is typical in many conventional applications, it is impossible or at least hard to perform when principles of minimization of radiation exposure have to be considered which prohibit an avoidable cask handling. An extensive knowledge of the change of the elastomer properties during aging and the availability of reliable end-of-lifetime criteria to guarantee the safe enclosure of the radioactive material for the required time are mandatory. As BAM is involved in most of the national cask licensing procedures and in the evaluation of cask-related long-term safety issues, great efforts have already been made and are still ongoing to scientifically support this task. Among other representative types of elastomers, specimen made from ethylene propylene diene rubber (EPDM) were tested before, during and after aging to capture the with respect to application most important of their complex mechanical properties. Exemplary results of these investigations were used to calibrate material models implemented in the commercial finite element software ABAQUS/Standard®. The finite element model already presented in previous works uses a sequential temperature displacement coupling. The calculated compression stress relaxation (CSR) and compression set (CS) values do satisfactorily match the experimental results. In many investigations performed at BAM both values (CSR and CS) were identified as key indicators of elastomer’s long-term performance. However, the possibility to correlate these equivalent indicators with performance values such as tightness and leakage rate, measurable in the mounted state, is an important goal of our future work. In the presented study the ABAQUS® feature of “pressure penetration” is introduced in the suggested finite element model for this purpose. It provides the possibility to simulate the penetration of a gas into a possible gap between flange and O-ring causing an opening of a leakage path. Three dimensional and axis-symmetric finite element models were generated to represent flat and grooved flanges of different dimensions. The sensitivity of the feature to several input parameters is investigated and the observed behavior of the O-ring is correlated with the results of performed leakage tests. Indeed, the potentiality of the electronic nose (e-nose) to differentiate the concentration fractions of hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, and ethanol was investigated. Furthermore, the impact change of relative humidity values (from 15% to 67%) on the responses of the gas sensors was reported and revealed that the effect remained less than 0.6%. Furthermore, the relevant results confirmed that the developed e-nose system was able to perfectly classify and monitor the odorous air of poultry farms. T1 - Combining of TD-GC-MS and home developed electronic nose for road traffic air monitoring N2 - In this work, we demonstrate the ability of an electronic nose system based on an array of six-semiconductor gas sensors for outdoor air quality monitoring over a day at a traffic road in downtown of Meknes city (Morocco). The response of the sensor array reaches its maximum in the evening of the investigated day which may due to high vehicular traffic or/and human habits resulting in elevated concentrations of pollutants. Dataset treatment by Principal Component Analysis and Discriminant Function Analysis shows a good discrimination between samples collected at different times of the day. Moreover, Support Vector Machines were used and reached a classification success rate of 97.5 %. Thermal Desorption-Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (TD-GC-MS) technique was used to validate the developed e-nose system by identifying the composition of the analyzed air samples. The discrimination obtained by e-nose system was in good agreement with the TD-GC-MS results. This study demonstrates the usefulness of TD-GC-MS and e-nose, providing high accuracy in discriminating outdoor air samples collected at different times. This demonstrates the potential of using the e-nose as a rapid, easy to use and inexpensive environmental monitoring system. The aim of our study is to expand this limited body of literature. First, we analyse the influence of companies’ networks on the adoption of ISO/IEC 27001 as an organisational innovation based on firm website data and their hyperlinks, using the entire population of ISO/IEC 27001 certified firms identified via web mining. Second, we validate the method of constructing and analysing companies’ “digital layer” following the call for new methodological approaches to study the organisational adoption of innovations. Our findings reveal that companies' decision to adopt ISO/IEC 27001 increases significantly with their number of linkages to other companies and to those having the same certificate. Finally, their cognitive and organisational distances to linked partners have the expected inverted u-shaped influence on their own adoption decision. Es wird seit etwa 20 Jahren im Rahmen des 1999 von der Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz beschlossenen Masterplans Museumsinsel schrittweise grundhaft instandgesetzt und um einen weiteren Flügel ergänzt, der 2025 fertig gestellt sein soll. In diesem Kontext wurde auch kurz nach dem Beschluss des Masterplans eine Bauzustandsanalyse an den in Originalgröße in der Antikensammlung ausgestellten Baudenk¬ mälern durchgeführt. Allerdings stellte man dabei fest, dass herkömmliche Erkundungsverfahren wie die Bauaufnahme, die baugeschichtliche Untersu¬ chung, das Quellenstudium sowie die äußerliche Begutachtung nicht ausreichen, um die innere Struktur der antiken Baudenkmäler hinreichend zu charakterisieren. Deshalb wurde die BAM im Jahr 2003 von der ARGE Pfanner Pergamonmuseum beauftragt, in enger Zusammenarbeit mit zwei Ingenieurbüros, dem Ingenieurbüro Patitz (IGP) und der Gesellschaft für geophysikalische Unter¬ suchungen mbH (GGU) unter Hinzuziehung einer Restauratorin, die innere Struktur ausgewählter an¬ tiker Baudenkmäler zerstörungsfrei zu untersuchen. Das Ziel der zerstörungsfreien Strukturaufklärung zum inneren Aufbau der Bauteile war es, einerseits sicherheitsrelevante Informationen für die statische Nachweisführung bereitzustellen, sowie andererseits eine Planungsgrundlage für die eventuell erforder¬ liche Ertüchtigung der Baudenkmäler zu schaffen. T1 - Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Conformity Assessment: Insights from a Multinational Study N2 - The COVID-19 pandemic has posed new and manifold challenges to organizations and their operations worldwide. Conformity assessment bodies (CABs), such as testing or medical laboratories, certification, and inspection bodies, are also affected by the associated disruptions. Their situation in this crisis is highly relevant, as CABs are essential pillars of the quality infrastructure: Their activities ensure that products and services meet requirements as defined in standards and regulations, thereby contributing to their safety and reliability. Considering the roles and functions of CABs in economy, health, and innovation, the question arises how CABs and their operations were affected by the pandemic and how they responded. To this end, we present the results of an international survey of 986 CABs of all types in Germany, the UK, Italy, and New Zealand. Overall, CABs reported on average a negative development of demand during the pandemic, facing restrictions in all countries. In addition, the pandemic had overall negative impact on the CABs’ investment and innovation activities. However, investments in digital infrastructure were increased as countermeasure, with CABs reporting an increased need for digitalization. Resources relevant to organizational resilience were available to different extents, affecting the speed of response to the challenges of the pandemic. The paper highlights and discusses results from in-depth analyses, which are relevant for policy makers and industry alike.
