    <title language="eng">New possibilities for concrete analysis 4.0 with the Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS)</title>
    <abstract language="eng">In civil engineering the damage assessment of concrete infrastructures is an important task to monitor and ensure the estimated life-time. The aging of concrete is caused by different damage processes like the chloride induced pitting corrosion of the reinforcement. The penetration depth and the concentration of harmful species are crucial factors in the damage assessment. As a highly cost and time-consuming standard procedure, the analysis of concrete drill cores or drilling by wet-chemistry is widely used. This method provides element concentration to the total mass as aggregates and binder are homogenized. In order to provide a method that is capable to detect the element concentration regarding the cement content only, the laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) will be presented. The LIBS method uses a focused pulsed laser on the sample surface to ablate material. The high-power density and the laser-material interaction causes a laser-induced plasma that emits elemental and molecular line emission due to energy transition of the excited species in the plasma during the cooling phase.&#13;
As each element provides element-specific line emission, it is in principle possible to detect any element on the periodic table (spectroscopic fingerprint) with one laser shot. In combination with a translation stage the sample under investigation can be spatially resolved using a scan raster with a resolution up to 100 µm (element mapping). Due to the high spatial resolution, the element distribution and the heterogeneity of the concrete can be evaluated. By using chemometrics the non-relevant aggregates can be excluded from the data set and the element concentration can be quantified and referred to a specific solid phase like the binding matrix (cement) only. In order to analyze transport processes like diffusion and migration the twodimensional element distributions can provide deep insight into the transport through the pore space and local enrichments of elements. As LIBS is a multi-elemental method it is also possible to compare the ingress and transport process of different elements like Cl, Na, K, S, C, and Li simultaneously and evaluate cross-correlations between the different ions. Furthermore, the element mapping allows to visualize the transport along cracks. This work will show the state of the art in terms of hardware and software for an automated LIBS system as well as different application for a concrete analysis 4.0. Focus will be the application of LIBS for a fast concrete analysis.

    <title language="deu">Zur Validierung von zerstörungsfreien Messverfahren für die probabilistische Beurteilung von Bestandsbauwerken mit gemessenen Daten</title>
    <title language="eng">Validation of non-destructive measurement procedures for reliability assessments of existing structures using measured data</title>
    <abstract language="eng">The aging of existing bridge structures coincides with the progressing degradation and increasing requirements on the bridge stock caused by increasing traffic densities as well as heavy traffic. The resulting demand for structural assessments of existing bridges is of substantial importance, both nationally and internationally. The information available about the considered system provides the basis for reassessments. Both the structural reliability and the validity of the computation results depend primarily on the condition, i.e. the quality and the relevance of this information. The purposeful measurement of quality-evaluated and relevant information can significantly increase the engineer’s power of judgement regarding the structural reliability. It is advisable to keep the destructive structural interventions necessary to obtain such information to a minimum.   &#13;
&#13;
The purpose of the present thesis is the development and evaluation of a methodology for the probabilistic reassessment of existing structures using non-destructively measured data and for the validation of the suitability of non-destructive measurement procedures for the application in the context of reassessments. For this purpose, the applicability of the rules established within the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty (GUM)-framework for evaluating the quality of the measured information to be used later in the reassessment is emphasized. The requirements on measured data-based basic variables are derived from the First Order Reliability Method (FORM), a probabilistic approximation procedure. Based on this, the metrology and the reassessment are brought together. The measurement-based basic variables are explicitly appreciated as random variables in reliability analyses. The developed methodology is evaluated by means of two prestressed concrete bridges and four basic variables. Geometrical measurement results gathered by radar and ultrasound measurements are incorporated into reassessments regarding the limit states ULS bending, ULS shear and SLS decompression. The modelling of the measurements is an essential part in order to calculate the measurement results, each consisting of a measured value and the attributed measurement uncertainty.   &#13;
&#13;
It is shown that the incorporation of the non-destructively collected measurement results reduces the uncertainty to be covered and increases the level of approximation of the considered models. The measurement results are reliable and comparable. Extensive sensitivity analyses provide information about crucial structure parameters to be measured, since they significantly influence the structural reliability. This way, the relevance of the information is derived. Such analyses are suitable for the design and commissioning of investigations meeting the demands as well as for the purposeful refinement of initially insufficient computation models. Furthermore, the appreciation of measured data-based basic variables can increase the robustness of structural analyses. Measurement-based reliability reassessments are particularly useful if required information is missing or doubts have arisen about the available information. In the best case, the incorporation of non-destructively measured data results in the extension of estimated remaining service lives, in the enhancement of infrastructural availabilities and in the optimization of the consumption of resources.
    <abstract language="deu">Die Alterung bestehender Brückenbauwerke fällt mit dem sich verschlechternden Zustand und zunehmenden Anforderungen an die Bausubstanz zusammen, die eine Folge von steigenden Verkehrszahlen und der Zulassung des Schwerlastverkehrs sind. Der daraus erwachsende Bedarf an Beurteilungen von bestehenden Brücken ist national und international fortwährend groß. Die Grundlage für Nachrechnungen sind die über das System verfügbaren Informationen. Sowohl die rechnerische Zuverlässigkeit eines Tragwerks als auch die Validität der Ergebnisse hängen im Wesentlichen vom Zustand, also von der Qualität und der Relevanz dieser Informationen ab. Die gezielte Messung von gütebewerteten, relevanten Informationen kann die Urteilsfähigkeit des Beurteilenden über die Zuverlässigkeit eines Tragwerks signifikant steigern. Wünschenswert ist die Erhebung derartiger Informationen ohne signifikante Eingriffe in die Bausubstanz.&#13;
Das Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist die Entwicklung und Erprobung einer Vorgehensweise für die probabilistische Beurteilung von bestehenden Bauwerken mit zerstörungsfrei gemessenen Daten und einer Methodik zum objektiven Nachweis der Eignung von zerstörungsfreien Messverfahren zur Anwendung im Zuge einer Nachrechnung. Herausgestellt wird die Eignung der im Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (GUM) publizierten Regeln zur Bewertung der Qualität der gemessenen Informationen, die später im statischen Nachweis verwendet werden sollen. Die Anforderungen an die Basisvariablen, d. h. an die Eingangsgrößen im probabilistischen Nachweis, werden aus den Vorschriften zur Zuverlässigkeitsanalyse mit dem probabilistischen Näherungsverfahren FORM, der First Order Reliability Method, abgeleitet. Darauf basiert die Entwicklung der Schnittstelle zwischen der Messtechnik und der Nachrechnung. Im Kern werden die messdatenbasierten Basisvariablen explizit als Zufallsgrößen bei der Zuverlässigkeitsanalyse berücksichtigt. Die entwickelte Vorgehensweise wird am Beispiel von zwei Spannbetonbrücken und vier Basisvariablen erprobt. In die Nachweise der Biege- und der Querkrafttragfähigkeit sowie in einen Nachweis der Dekompression fließen geometrische Messergebnisse ein, die mithilfe von Radar- und Ultraschallmessungen generiert werden. Ein wichtiger Bestandteil ist die Bildung von Modellen zur Auswertung der Messungen und zur Berechnung der Messergebnisse.&#13;
Es wird gezeigt, dass die Einbeziehung der zerstörungsfrei generierten Messergebnisse die Unsicherheit in den Berechnungsmodellen reduzieren und den Grad der Annäherung der Modelle&#13;

    <abstract language="eng">This dataset contains raw data resulting from Impact-Echo measurements at the reference conrete block "Radarplatte", located at BAM (German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing). This specimen has been described in detail by Niederleithinger et al. (2021), who applied muon tomography, ultrasonic echo measurements, radar and X-ray laminography to visualize its internal structure.&#13;
&#13;
The Impact-Echo method is based on the excitation of the zero-group-velocity frequency of the first symmetric Lamb mode of a plate-like structure, in order to assess its thickness. Numerous publication elaborate on Impact-Echo theory, examples are (Gibson and Popovics 2005, Schubert and Köhler 2008 , Abraham and Popovics 2010).&#13;
&#13;
The measurements have been conducted using a setup that contains only commercially available components. The setup consists of an Olson CTG-2 concrete thickness gauge (Olsen Instruments, USA) for actuation and sensing and an 8-bit NI USB-5132 digital storage oscilloscope (National Instruments, USA) combined with the Echolyst software (Schweizerischer Verein für technische Inspektionen (SVTI), Switzerland) for data acquisition.&#13;
&#13;
Measurements were conducted using a grid of 23x23 points with a spacing of 50 mm. At each point 8192 samples were recorded at a sampling rate of 1 MS/s.&#13;
&#13;
The dataset contains the (X,Y) location in mm of the individual measurement points as well as the raw measurement data at those points.&#13;
&#13;
The data is provided in the formats *.mir/*.mhdr (Echolyst), *.npy (Python) and *.mat (Matlab) and *.csv to ease the import in various post-processing tools.

    <title language="eng">Investigation of temperature effects on ultrasonic velocity in a prestressed concrete bridge model</title>
Ultrasonic measurements have recently been applied in the context of structural health monitoring in civil engineering. The ultrasonic method is very sensitive to environmental conditions and material property changes, which might be caused by prestress losses and loading effects on the bridge. However, it remains a challenge to identify the damage mechanisms causing structural property changes from the above mentioned factors influencing ultrasonics. The focus of this contribution is to investigate the correlation between ultrasonic velocities and temperature by the coda wave interferometry (CWI) analysis. Long-term monitoring of a prestressed concrete bridge model under field conditions was carried out to observe the effect of temperature. The homogeneous change in concrete caused by temperature was revealed by applying the CWI method. The threshold value of the best correlation coefficients for the linear regression of temperature and ultrasonic velocity changes was also studied. Experimental assessment will provide a ratio for temperature correction to evaluate the pre-stressing force decrease and its consequences on crack opening or extension.

    <title language="eng">Impact-Echo Dataset "IE Platte"</title>
    <abstract language="eng">This dataset contains raw data resulting from Impact-Echo measurements at the reference concrete block "IE Platte", located at BAM (German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing).&#13;
&#13;
The specimen contains three polystyrene slabs and one polyethylene foil to act as reflectors. The specimen was produced in a three-step process. First, the base plate was cast. Second, the reflectors were taped to the base plate. Finally, the upper layer was cast on top of base plate and reflectors. A drawing is contained in the dataset.&#13;
&#13;
The Impact-Echo method is based on the excitation of the zero-group-velocity frequency of the first symmetric Lamb mode of a plate-like structure, in order to assess its thickness. Numerous publications elaborate on Impact-Echo theory, examples are (Gibson and Popovics 2005, Schubert and Köhler 2008 , Abraham and Popovics 2010).&#13;
&#13;
The measurements have been conducted using a setup that contains only commercially available components. The setup consists of an Olson CTG-2 concrete thickness gauge (Olsen Instruments, USA) for actuation and sensing and an 8-bit NI USB-5132 digital storage oscilloscope (National Instruments, USA) combined with the Echolyst software (Schweizerischer Verein für technische Inspektionen (SVTI), Switzerland) for data acquisition.&#13;
&#13;
Measurements were conducted using a grid of 29x29 points with a spacing of 50 mm. At each point 8192 samples were recorded at a sampling rate of 1 MS/s.&#13;
&#13;
The dataset contains the (X,Y) location in mm of the individual measurement points as well as the raw measurement data at those points.&#13;
&#13;
The data is provided in the formats *.mir/*.mhdr (Echolyst), *.npy (Python) and *.mat (Matlab) and *.csv to ease the import in various post-processing tools.

    <title language="eng">Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy – A Tool for Imaging the Chemical Composition of Concrete</title>
One of the most common causes of damage is the ingress of harmful ions into the concrete, which can lead to deterioration processes and affect structural performance. Therefore, the increasingly aging infrastructure is regularly inspected to assess durability. Regular chemical analysis can be useful to determine the extent and evolution of ion ingress and to intervene in a timely manner. This could prove more economical than extensive repairs for major damage, particularly for critical infrastructure. In addition to already established elemental analysis techniques in civil engineering such as potentiometric titration or X-ray fluorescence analysis, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) can provide further important complementary information and benefits. The possibilities of LIBS are demonstrated using the example of a drill core taken from a parking garage.

    <title language="eng">Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy to investigate the chemical composition of concrete</title>
    <abstract language="eng">Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a spectroscopic method for the analysis of the chemical composition of sample materials. Generally, the measurement of all elements of the periodic table is possible. In particular, light elements such as H, Li, Be, S, C, O, N and halogens can be measured. Calibration with matrix-matching standards allows the quantification of element concentrations. In combination with scanner systems, the two-dimensional element distribution can be determined. Even rough surfaces can be measured by online adjustment of the laser focus. LIBS can also be used on-site with mobile systems. Hand-held systems are available for point measurements.&#13;
Common applications include the investigation of material deterioration due to the ingress of harmful ions and their interaction in porous building materials. Due to the high spatial resolution of LIBS and the consideration of the heterogeneity of concrete, the determination of precise input parameters for simulation and modelling of the remaining lifetime of a structure is possible. In addition to the identification of materials, it is also possible to assess the composition for example of hardened concrete, which involves the cement or aggregate type used. Other important fields of application are the detection of environmentally hazardous elements or the material classification for sorting heterogeneous material waste streams during dismantling. Non-contact NDT for “difficult to assess” structures as an example application through safety glass or in combination with robotics and automation are also possible. &#13;
In this work, an overview of LIBS investigations on concrete is given based on exemplary laboratory and on-site applications.

    <title language="eng">Ultrasonic monitoring of large-scale structures – input to engineering assessment</title>
Ultrasonic coda wave interferometry can detect small changes in scattering materials like concrete. We embedded ultrasonic transducers in the Gänstorbrücke Ulm, a monitored road bridge in Germany, to test the methodology. Since fall 2020, we've been monitoring parts of the bridge and comparing the results to commercial monitoring systems. We calculate signal and volumetric velocity changes using coda waves, and long-term measurements show that the influence of temperature on strains and ultrasound velocity changes can be monitored. Velocity change maps indicate that different parts of the bridge react differently to environmental temperature changes, revealing local material property differences. A load experiment with trucks allows calibration to improve detectability of possibly damaging events. Our work focuses on measurement reliability, potential use of and distinction from temperature effects, combination with complementary sensing systems, and converting measured values to information for damage and life cycle assessment.

    <title language="eng">Reliability assessment of existing concrete bridges with geometrical NDT results - Case studies</title>
The results of and the validity in reliability assessment of existing bridges essentially depend on the information available about the considered system. Information about the actual condition as well as structural and material characteristics can be observed on-site to refine the computation models used in assessment. Non-destructive testing (NDT) methods for concrete structures are capable of reconstructing missing, questioned, or inconsistent as-built plans. This contribution summarizes recent developments within the scope of the national pre-standardization project “ZfPStatik”, which aims to prepare a guideline about NDT-supported structural analyses. The focus is on the purposeful and explicit utilization of geometrical tendon and reinforcement bar positions (measured on-site using the ultrasound echo and ground penetrating radar (GPR) techniques) in probabilistic reliability analyses — shown by means of real case studies. The well-established first order reliability method is applied to different concrete bridges, which are typical for the German road bridge stock, to demonstrate the utility of incorporating quality-evaluated NDT-results in terms of changes in structural reliability.

    <title language="deu">Robotergestütztes Bauwerksmonitoring basierend auf eingebetteter Sensorik</title>
    <abstract language="deu">In den letzten Jahrzehnten hat sich das Bauwerksmonitoring (engl. „Structural Health Monitoring“, SHM) zu einer nützlichen Ergänzung routinemäßiger Inspektionen entwickelt. SHM ermöglicht die frühzeitige Erkennung von Schäden an Bauwerken und dadurch die frühe, und somit kostengünstige, Durchführung von Reparatur- und Wartungsarbeiten. Mit dem Aufkommen drahtloser Technologien und Fortschritten in der Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologie werden Bauwerke zunehmend mit drahtlosen Sensorknoten ausgestattet, um für SHM relevante Bauwerksdaten zu erfassen, zu analysieren und zu übertragen. Eine vielversprechende Methode für SHM ist die direkte Einbettung von Sensoren in den Beton. In diesem Beitrag wird ein Sensorsystem zur Einbettung in Beton vorgestellt, das in der Lage ist, die im Beton aufgenommenen Bauwerksdaten auszuwerten. Die Sensoren werden bei Bedarf von vierbeinigen Robotern mittels Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) ausgelesen und mit Energie versorgt, was einen automatisierten und effizienten Prozess ermöglicht. Der prototypische Prozess zur automatischen Erfassung von Bauwerksdaten mit eingebetteter Sensorik und vierbeinigen Robotern wird durch Tests in einer Büroumgebung validiert. Die Ergebnisse der Tests bestätigen die automatische und effiziente Erfassung von Bauwerksdaten, die eine frühzeitige Erkennung von Bauwerksschäden, auch von nicht sichtbaren Schäden, ermöglicht, und eine folgerichtige Weiterentwicklung des&#13;
modernen Bauwerksmonitorings repräsentiert.

    <title language="eng">Moisture diffusion affected by the Knudsen effect in temporal changing pore networks</title>
    <abstract language="eng">Almost all building materials in civil engineering have an open porosity and interact with or are affected by the environmental conditions. Structures might suffer from effects such as moisture adsorption, carbonation, corrosion, penetration of salt ions and chemical substances, etc. In the hygroscopic range, these processes are mostly driven by diffusion. Due to the confinement of small pores (&lt; 1 µm), the Knudsen effect reduces the molecular diffusion. This reduction can become more significant in case of temporal changing pore systems because of physisorption of water vapor, carbonation, or chemisorption.&#13;
In this study, unstabilised earth blocks and earth masonry are investigated. In a first step, the pore size distribution of the blocks is measured and sorption isotherms are recorded in experiments. Besides the ordinary physisorption, the involved clay minerals undergo swelling or shrinking due to chemisorption. The following two effects must be considered: first, the reduction of the available pore space by the adsorbed water layer. For this, the Hillerborg sorption theory is used, which is a combination of the well-known Brunauer-Emmett-Teller sorption theory and the Kelvin equation. This allows the computation of adsorbed water layers even in curved pore geometries. Second, the variation of the initial pore size distribution due to chemisorption needs to be modelled. Based on these two models, the effective diffusion coefficient can be predicted. For validation, arrays of relative humidity sensors were embedded into a free-standing earth masonry wall. This monitoring was carried out over more than a year to have a broad variety of environmental conditions and was located in Berlin, Germany.&#13;
The prediction of the effective diffusion coefficient can also be transferred to other processes and allows the investigation of materials having temporarily changing pore systems. Examples are the carbonation of cementitious materials, alkali silica reaction, calcium leaching of long-lasting structures, etc. This effect becomes most prominent in the meso-pore range and might alter the effective diffusion coefficient by more than 100 %.

    <title language="eng">Smart electronic helper for long-term monitoring of bridges and building structures</title>
    <abstract language="eng">Increasing traffic volume on the one hand and ageing infrastructure on the other hand have created many new challenges for maintenance and structural health monitoring of roads and bridges. In the past, many bridges and road structures have been neglected, often resulting in traffic congestion, road closure, and increased repair costs.&#13;
This research is concerned with the development of a system to improve the challenge of maintenance and early detection of damage, particularly moisture penetration and corrosion of steel reinforced concrete components. The objective is to develop a method that will also work after 30 years and longer. Many new IoT solutions are equipped with internal energy storage elements (accumulators or batteries) which are inappropriate here, since most relevant signs of concrete degradation occur after decades, where the functioning of such elements are more than questionable. The presented technology approach uses radio-frequency identification (RFID) and enables connectivity to sensors. It offers the advantage of an passive, completely independent energy supply without any energy storage components.&#13;
Since the system should be permanently embedded in concrete, it is crucial to develop a long-term stable device which is adapted to the environmental influences of the structure, e.g., long-term resistance in very alkaline environment of pH 13. In numerous experiments, the robustness of the system was tested and evaluated. Various tests with encapsulations to protect the electronics were performed, and for long-term validation different concrete specimens were instrumented with RFID-sensor-systems. Their operating time is now around two years and investigations for signs of fatigue and damage to the encapsulation and the electronics are ongoing.

    <title language="eng">OsciCheck - A Novel Fluidic Transducer for Air-Coupled Ultrasonic Measurements</title>
Ultrasonic measurement technology has become indispensable in NDT-CE. Air-coupled ultrasonic (ACU) measurement techniques promise to reduce measurement time. However, the signal quality suffers from large specific impedance mismatch at the transducer-air and air-specimen interface. Additionally, large pressure amplitudes are necessary for the penetration depth required in NDT-CE applications. To address the specific requirements of ultrasonic testing in NDT-CE, a robust ACU transducer was developed, that generates ultrasound by quickly switching a pressurized air flow. The simple design of the fluidic transducer makes the device maintenance free and resilient against harsh environmental conditions. Since the signal is generated by aeroacoustics, there is no specific impedance mismatch between the transducer and the surrounding air. The ultrasonic signal exhibits frequencies in the 30-60 kHz range and is therefore well suited to penetrate heterogenous materials such as concrete. This contribution gives an introduction in the working principle and signal characteristics of the fluidic transducer. Its applicability to measurements in concrete is verified. A detailed outlook is given to discuss the future potential of fluidic ultrasonic actuators.

    <title language="eng">Investigations on multi-sensor data for monitoring volume flow during the printing process</title>
    <abstract language="eng">Extrusion based 3D concrete printing (3DCP) is a growing technology because of its high potential for automating construction and the new possibilities of design. In conventional construction methods, a sample is taken to be representative for one material batch. However, in 3DCP continuous mixing is used which results in variations during the mixing process. Therefore, one sample is not representative for the entire structure. This leads to the necessity of continuous and real-time process monitoring.&#13;
This study focuses on the variations of pressure and temperature which are caused by changes in the material due to the ongoing mixing process. Changes in material, which is transported downstream, are influencing sensor signals in different positions with a time delay. In the following, the data is analysed to investigate if the changing material and the so caused change in pressure can be used to calculate volume flow.

    <title language="deu">Erarbeitung einer Norm für einen standardisierten Prozess zur probabilistischen Bewertung von Prüfverfahren</title>
    <abstract language="deu">Im DIN-Normenausschuss Materialprüfung (NMP) wurde das Normungsgremium NA 062-08-28 AA „Qualifizierung von zerstörungsfreien Prüfungen“ reaktiviert. Das Ziel der Reaktivierung ist die Erarbeitung einer Norm für einen standardisierten Prozess zur probabilistischen Bewertung von Prüfverfahren.&#13;
In der zerstörungsfreien Prüfung (ZfP) führt die Ermittlung von Mess- / Prüfunsicherheiten von Prüfverfahren, in normativer Hinsicht in Deutschland und Europa, noch ein Schattendasein. Die Norm ISO IEC 17025 und auch der VDA-Band 5 wurden weiter in Richtung Messunsicherheit entwickelt, allerdings führt ihre Anwendung in der ZfP zu Problemen.&#13;
Der Arbeitsausschuss NA 062-08-28 AA soll hier den Brückenschlag zwischen Messunsicherheit, objektiver statistischer Bewertung für ZfP-Verfahren und eine weitere Stärkung der probabilistischen Bruchmechanik erreichen. Geplant ist daher die Erarbeitung einer DIN-Norm, welche die Kriterien für eine korrekte Versuchsplanung, ein praktikables Vorgehen zur Bewertung der Prüfergebnisse und die mathematische Überführung in eine Zuverlässigkeitsaussage enthält. Es soll ein Leitfaden erstellt werden, der für ein möglichst breites Branchenspektrum eingesetzt werden kann, unabhängig von den Besonderheiten verschiedener Industriezweige.&#13;
Dargestellt werden das relevante Normungsgremium sowie der Hintergrund des zu erstellenden Dokuments.

    <title language="eng">Towards NDT-supported decisions on the reliability of existing bridges</title>
A major advantage in the reassessment of existing structures is the possibility of including measured data that describe the actual properties and the current condition of the structure to be reassessed. Currently, the incorporation of such measured information is mostly unregulated. However, the use of measurement results is vitally important, since a measured data-based improvement of the computation models level of approximation can lead at least to more meaningful results, possibly to extended remaining life times of the structure and in the best case to a saving of resources. Conversely, not appreciating well measurable and relevant information can be equated with a waste of resources. In this paper, a concept for the comparable use of non-destructively measured data as basic variables in probabilistic reliability assessments is outlined and examined using a typical prestressed concrete road bridge as a case-study. An essential requirement is the calculation of measurement uncertainties in order to evaluate the quality of the measurement results comparably. In conclusion, the example of ultrasonic and radar measurement data is used to demonstrate the effects that the incorporation of the measured information has on the reliability of the structure.

    <title language="eng">Moisture behaviour of earth block masonry under natural climate conditions – experimental and numerical studies</title>
The compressive stength of unstabilised earth masonry depends on the moisture content. Knowledge of the moisture content is necessary in order to be able to account for the impact of moisture on the structural design of earth block masonry. For conventional building materials it is possible to precisely forecast the component moisture according to the layered structure on the basis of hygrothermal simulations. However , it is still not clear to what degree these numerical calculations can offer valid results for earth building materials. Earth building materials have a number of special properties related to moisture storage and moisture transport that differ significantly from the physical simplifications that are a component of existing material models. The swelling and shrinking of earth materials and their organic components results in changes to the pore space, the sorption behaviour exhibits a clear hysteresis, and the experimental determination of hygrothermal parameters in continuous contact with liquid water is almost impossible. To adequately forecast the moisture content of earth block masonry under natural climate conditions, extensive investigations of the moisture behaviour of load-bearing earth block masonry have been carried out within the framework of this project. These efforts began with the performance of magnetic resonance spectroscopic tests on two load-bearing earth blocks, in order to quantify the adsorption and desorption processes at relative humidities of between 50 % and 90 % under controlled, isothermal laboratory conditions. Once this had been done, a modified test setup was used to determine the water absorption coefficient , from which the liquid transport coefficients were derived. Based on the hygrothermal parameters values that were thus determined, the model was calibrated using the WUFI software program [7]. Finally, long-term moisture measurements were conducted on an earth block masonry wall that was ex-Increasing shortages of raw materials and rising energy prices are resulting in continuous growth in the demand for earth construction. In comparison to conventional building materials, earth building materials offer three significant advantages that have become even more important in light of the energy crisis in 2021 and the associated increase in the price of building supplies by approx. 40 percent [1]. Firstly, water solubility makes it possible to fully separate and recover all of the material components, and in particular the sand component. Secondly, energy-intensive firing processes, such as those required for cement production or brick manufacture, are eliminated. And thirdly, earth is a local raw material that is available in large quantities [1]. However, the load-bearing capacity of earth building materials is very much dependent on the moisture content. An increase in the relative humidity results in a reduction in the clay mineral cohesion , and this in turn results in a decline in both the compressive strength and the modulus of elasticity. In this regard, the mechanical properties of earth block masonry change in inverse proportion to the relative humidity. In other words, with every percentage point increase in relative humidity, both the compressive strength and the modulus of elasticity decline by one percent [2] [4]. The internal walls of heated living areas are generally only subject to relatively small fluctuations in relative humidity (between 40 % and 60 %) [5], and short periods in excess of these levels (such as in bathrooms or kitchens) only lead to a significant increase in the moisture content of the uppermost layers [6]. Exterior walls, on the other hand, are subject to large seasonal fluctuations in temperate climates, with a relative humidity in excess of 90 % in winter months. However, the exterior walls of heated living areas must be insulated in accordance with the German Buildings Energy Act (GEG), and with masonry this is generally done us

    <title language="eng">An assessment of the repeatability of 3D printed concrete structures</title>
Additive manufacturing of concrete structures, also known as 3D concrete printing, is a technology that received a lot of attention over the past decade due to its financial an ecological advantage as sustainable construction technology. Although several techniques and approaches demonstrate these advantages, quality control during printing is highly challenging and rarely applied and harmonized standards are not existing. Due to the continuous mixing process used in 3D concrete printing, it is impossible to exclude variations in the dry mixture or water content, and a single test sample is insufficient to be representative for the whole structure. A defect in one layer during the printing can affect the entire integrity of the whole structure. This study shows the results of an arch designed as framework structure that was printed multiple times under the same boundary conditions using an extrusion-based 3D concrete printer. Each arch was tested for its mechanical strength and load bearing behavior. The results of the mechanical testing of the printed arches are compared with material data obtained by classical tests and discussed regarding their statistical significance.
