    <title language="eng">Adhesive Porosity Analysis of Composite Adhesive Joints Using Ultrasonic Guided Waves</title>
Adhesively bonded composite joints can develop voids and porosity during fabrication, leading to stress concentration and a reduced load-carrying capacity. Hence, adhesive porosity analysis during the fabrication is crucial to ensure the required quality and reliability. Ultrasonic-guided wave (UGW)-based techniques without advanced signal processing often provide low-resolution imaging and can be ineffective for detecting small-size defects. This article proposes a damage imaging process for adhesive porosity analysis of bonded composite plates using UGWs measured by scanning laser Doppler vibrometer (LDV). To implement this approach, a piezoelectric transducer is mounted on the composite joint specimen to generate UGWs, which are measured over a densely sampled area. The signals obtained from the scan are processed using the proposed signal processing in different domains. Through the utilization of filter banks in frequency and wavenumber domains, along with the root-mean-square calculation of filtered signals, damage images of the adhesive region are obtained. It has been observed that different filters provide information related to different void sizes. Combining all the images reconstructed by filters, a final image is obtained which contains damages of various sizes. The images obtained by the proposed method are verified by radiography results and the porosity analysis is presented. The results indicate that the proposed methodology can detect the pores with the smallest detectable pore area of 2.41 mm^2, corresponding to a radius of 0.88 mm, with an overall tendency to overestimate the pore size by an average of 11%.

    <title language="deu">Analyse des gefügeabhängigen Löslichkeitsverhaltens potenziell AKR-empfindlicher Gesteinskörnungen</title>
    <title language="eng">Analysis of the microstructure depending solubility behavior of potential ASR sensitive aggregates</title>
    <abstract language="deu">Das gefügeabhängige Löslichkeitsverhalten wurde an folgenden vier Gesteinskörnungen unterschiedlicher Alkaliempfindlichkeitsklassen&#13;
untersucht:&#13;
• GK1 (EIII-S): quarzreicher Kies&#13;
• GK2 (EIII-S): Grauwacke (Splitt)&#13;
• GK3 (EI-S): Quarz-Feldspat-Porphyr (Splitt)&#13;
• GK4 (EI-S): sandsteinreicher Kies&#13;
DiePorenstrukturanalyse erfolgte sowohl an Einzelkörnern mittels vergleichender 3D-CT und BET- Untersuchungen als auch an Korngemengen der einzelnen Kornfraktionen (außer Fraktion 16/22 mm) über die Wasseraufnahme und mit BET. Für die Visualisierung und Quantifizierung der von außen zugänglichen Oberflächenanteile der Einzelkörner wurde ein Softwaretool entwickelt, erprobt und erfolgreich angewandt. Es gelang so u.a. den Nachweis zu erbringen, dass die gebrochenen Einzelkörner der Grauwacke und des Rhyoliths einen deutlich geringeren von außen zugänglichen Oberflächenanteil als die gleichartigen Gesteinskörner aus dem Kies besitzen. Aufgrund der limitierten Ortsauflösung der 3D-CT von 11 bis 16,5 μm wurde mit BET eine um drei Zehnerpotenzen höhere spezifische Oberfläche ermittelt.&#13;
Zu den Porositätsuntersuchungen an den Korngemengen sei angemerkt, dass zum Teil gegenläufige Trends zwischen offener Porosität und spezifischer Oberfläche festgestellt wurden. Dieses ist beim Bezug des bei den Löseversuchen in 0,1 M KOH mit definierter NaCl-Zugabe aus der Gesteinskörnung gelösten SiO2 und Al2O3 von zentraler Bedeutung. Bei den Löseversuchen an den fraktionsspezifischen Korngemengen selbst zeigte sich, dass die stufenweise Erhöhung des NaCl-Gehalts von 0 auf 10 M.-% im Eluat eine erhöhte SiO2-Löslichkeit und eine verminderte Auslaugung von Al2O3 zur Folge hat. Auffallend war hierbei, dass die Al2O3-Löslichkeit bei GK4 ohne und mit geringer NaCl-Zugabe die mit Abstand höchsten Werte annimmt. Bei den zusätzlich durchgeführten Löseversuchen an den tomografierten Einzelkörnern in 1 M KOH-Lösung mit Zugabe von 1 M.-% NaCl zeigte sich, dass nur vereinzelt bei den untersuchten Gesteinsarten eine Korrelation zwischen dem SiO2- bzw. Al2O3-Gehalt im Eluat und der absoluten BET-Oberfläche nachweisbar ist. Dies ist vermutlich darauf zurückzuführen, dass neben der Oberfläche weitere Parameter (z.B. die mineralogische Zusammensetzung der Einzelkörner) das Löseverhalten maßgebend beeinflussen. Bei den parallel zu den Löseversuchen durchgeführten Betonversuchen nach dem ARS 04/2013 zeigte sich, dass die Alkaliempfindlichkeit der GK4 bei beiden Betonversuchen mit Alkalizufuhr unterschiedlich zu bewerten ist. So ist unabhängig von der vorgegebenen pessimalen Betonrezeptur des Fahrbahndeckenbetons ausschließlich bei der Klimawechsellagerung die GK4 als alkaliempfindlich einzustufen. Allerdings konnte der Befund der stark ausgeprägten AKR bei der GK4 mit der Dünnschliffmikroskopie nicht bestätigt werden. Analoges gilt für die Bewertung der Alkaliempfindlichkeit von GK2 mit den Betonversuchen nach der Alkalirichtlichtlinie des DAfStb. So ist auch hier die GK2 nicht im 60 °C-Betonversuch sondern ausschließlich im 40 °C-Betonversuch als alkaliempfindlich einzustufen.&#13;
Dienach den verschiedenartigen Betonversuchen durchgeführten LIBS-Analysen am Vertikalschnitt der Prüfkörper zeigen, dass im Kernbereich nach dem 60 °C-Betonversuch mit 10 %iger NaCl-Lösung und nach der Klimawechsellagerung mit NaCl-Beaufschlagung annähernd gleich hohe Natrium- und Chloridgehalte vorgefunden werden. Wider Erwarten treten an den beaufschlagten Prüfflächen Abreicherungen von Natrium und Anreicherungen von Chlorid auf. Im 40°C- und 60 °C-Betonversuch wurde das Natrium bis in eine maximale Tiefe von ca. 30 mm bzw. 20 mm ausgelaugt. Die aufbauenden korrelativen Betrachtungen zwischen den Ergebnissen des 60°C Betonversuchs mit Alkalizufuhr und der Löseversuche an den fraktionsspezifischen Korngemengen in 1 M KOH-Lösung mit definierter NaCl-Zugabe sind durchaus vielversprechend. So zeigt sich beispielsweise beim Waschbeton, dass der fraktionsspezifisch gewichtete SiO2-Überschuss im Eluat nach 56 Tagen mit Zugabe von 0,5 M.-% NaCl ohne Bezug auf die BET-Oberfläche zur gleichen Einstufung der vier betrachteten Gesteinskörnungen wie bei den Dehnungen im 60 °C-Betonversuch mit 3 %-iger NaCl-Lösung führt. Außerdem korrelieren die im 60 °C-Betonversuch mit 10 %-iger NaCl-Lösung ermittelten Dehnungen mit dem gewichteten SiO2-Überschuss im Eluat bei Zugabe von 2 M.-% NaCl ohne Bezug auf die BET-Oberfläche.&#13;
    <abstract language="eng">The following four aggregates (GK) of varying grades of alkali sensitivity were examined for their microstructure-dependent solubility behavior:&#13;
• GK1 (EIII-S) gravel with high quarz content&#13;
• GK2 (EIII-S) greywacke (crushed stone)&#13;
• GK3 (EI-S) quarz-feldspar-porphyry (crushed stone)&#13;
• GK4 (EI-S) gravel with high sandstone content&#13;
Pore structure analysis was carried out both on single grains using comparative 3D-CT and BET tests, and on grain samples of individual grain fractions (excluding the 16/22 mm fraction) using water absorption and BET. A software tool for visualizing and quantifying the externally accessible surfaces of single grains was developed, tested and successfully applied.&#13;
This enabled us, among other things, to prove that single broken grains of greywacke and rhyolite have a much smaller externally accessible surface than grains of gravel of the same aggregate fraction. Due to the 3D-CT’s limited spatial resolution of 11 to 16.5 μm, BET was used to determine a two to three powers of ten higher specific surface.&#13;
In relation to the porosity tests of the grain samples, it should be noted that in some cases, counterdirectional trends between open porosity and specific surface were determined. This is of central importance in relation to the SiO2 and Al2O3 dissolved from the aggregate in the solubility tests in 1 M KOH with defined addition of NaCl.&#13;
The solubility tests on the grain samples of specific fractions showed that the gradual increase of the NaCl content in the eluate from 0 to 10 M.-% resulted in increased SiO2 solubility and reduced leaching of Al2O3. It was striking in this context that the solubility of Al2O3 in GK4 with no or little addition of NaCl gives by far the highest values.&#13;
The additional solubility tests carried out on single grains, that were previously subjected to CT testing, in 1 M KOH solution with 1 M.-% added NaCl showed that in the types of aggregate examined, a correlation between the SiO2 and Al2O3 in eluate and the absolute BET surface is only occasionally demonstrable. This is probably due to the fact that solubility behavior is decisively influenced by other parameters in addition to the surface (e.g. by the mineralogical composition of individual grains).&#13;
The concrete tests according to ARS 04/2013 carried out parallel to the solubility tests showed that GK4’s alkali sensitivity in both concrete tests with added alkali must be evaluated differently.&#13;
For example, independent of the prescribed pessimal road surface concrete formula, GK4 can only be classified as alkali sensitive under cyclic storage. However petrographic microscopy could not confirm the findings of very marked ASR in GK4. The same applies to the evaluation of alkali sensitivity in GK2 with the concrete tests according to the German Committee for Structural Concrete (DAfStb)’s Alkali Guidelines. In this case too, GK2 should not be classified as alkali sensitive in 60 °C concrete testing, but only in 40 °C concrete testing.&#13;
The LIBS analyses carried out on the vertical cross-section of the test specimens after the various concrete tests showed that almost equally high sodium and chloride levels were found in the core area after the 60 °C concrete prism test with 10 % NaCl solution and after cyclic storage with NaCl application. Contrary to expectations, the surfaces of samples after NaCl application showed a decrease in sodium and an increase in chloride. In the 40°C and 60°C concrete prism tests, sodium was depleted up to a maximum depth of approx. 30 mm and 20 mm respectively.&#13;
Subsequent correlative observations between the findings of the 60°C concrete prism test with alkali application, and the solubility tests on the samples of specific grain fractions in 1 M KOH solution with defined NaCl addition, are very promising. In the case of exposed aggregate concrete, for example, the fraction-specific weighted excess SiO2 to in the eluate after 56 days with added 0.5 M.-% NaCl unrelated to the BET surface results in the same classification of the four aggregates examined as the expansions in the 60 °C concrete prism test with 3% NaCl solution. In addition, the expansions found in the 60 °C concrete prism test with 10% NaCl solution correlated with the weighted excess SiO2 in eluate with added 2 M.-% NaCl without relation to the BET surface. Only in the case of the concrete test in accordance with the Alkali Guidelines did the relationship of the excess SiO2 in the eluate to the BET surface prove to be productive.&#13;
Due to the potential of the solubility test with added NaCl for the evaluation of alkali sensitivity of aggregates in road surface concrete, we recommend continuing with comparative tests between solubility tests of grain samples of the various fractions and the concrete tests in accordance with ARS O4/13 with the greatest possible number of aggregates and a precisely defined investigation scope.

    <title language="eng">X-Ray computed tomography and traditional analysis of a capillary absorption test in cement pastes</title>
Water absorption testing has the attraction of being simple, relatively quick and use water as a fluid which is the key substance in the possible concrete deterioration. However, in spite of the advantages its application has remained empirical, except for the testing of resistance to frost, through the identification of the critical degree of saturation. Rilem TC-116 studied this test, among others, for the characterization of concrete resistance against transport through the concrete pore network. Results indicated a low discriminating ability of the absorbency for qualifying concrete resistance and then, it seemed necessary to try to move forward by making the link between the absorption testing and the concrete pore microstructure. In the present work, thanks to the X-Ray computed tomography, it is described the evolution of the water front in three paste-specimen with different w/c ratios (different pore radius distributions). The observations allowed us to deduce that all the pores start to fill simultaneously, but the bigger ones fill quicker and rise less. The saturation degree is measured along the height of the sample, showing that each pore size has a different rate which becomes constant after the first hour. Washburn’s equation was applied to the progressive advance of the water front, resulting in a pore radius much smaller than the one expected.

    <title language="eng">Measurement of Focal Spots of X-ray Tubes Using a CT Reconstruction Approach on Edge Images of Large Holes and Comparison to Pinhole Imaging</title>
The first Non-destructive testing (NDT) method which evolved in the industrial age was radiographic testing (RT). Among all NDT methods, RT is no exception, so there are still many issues for optimizations even today. One of them is the measurement of the focal spot of X-ray tubes. The size of the focal spot is critical for imaging, because it determines the spatial resolution in the X-ray image. The classical way to evaluate focal spots of X-ray tubes is by pinhole imaging using a camera obscura. But this method has a natural lower limit, which is defined by the diameter of the pinhole used (today min. 10 µm). Therefore, focal spot sizes lower than 50 µm diameter cannot be imaged and measured correctly. An alternative approach, which permits this, was investigated here using the edge unsharpness of holes much larger than the focal spot size. The results of both methods were compared using 3 different X-ray tubes.

    <title language="eng">Measurement-based Detector Characteristics for Digital Twins in aRTist 2</title>
    <abstract language="eng">Various software products for the simulation of industrial X-ray radiography have been developed in recent years (e.g., aRTist 2, CIVA CT, Scorpius XLab, SimCT, Wilcore) and their application potential has been shown in numerous works. However, full systematic approaches to characterise a specific CT system for these simulation software products to obtain a truthful digital twin are still missing. In this contribution, we want to present two approaches to obtain realistic grey values in X-ray projections in aRTist 2 simulations based on measured projections. In aRTist 2, the displayed grey value of a pixel is based on the energy density incident on that pixel.&#13;
The energy density is calculated based on the X-ray tube spectrum, the attenuation between source and detector as well as an energy-dependent sensitivity curve of the detector. The first approach presented in this contribution uses the sensitivity curve as a free modelling parameter. We measured the signal response at different thicknesses of Al EN-AW6082 at different tube voltages (i.e., different tube spectra). We then regarded the grey values displayed by these projections as a data regression respectively an optimisation problem and obtained the sensitivity curve that is best able to reproduce the measured behaviour in aRTist 2. The resulting sensitivity curve does not necessarily hold physical meaning but is able to simulate the real system behaviour in the simulation software.&#13;
The second approach presented in this contribution is to estimate the sensitivity curve based on assumptions about the characteristics of the scintillation detector (e.g., scintillator material, scintillator thickness and signal processing characteristics). For this approach, a linear response function (linear relationship between the deposited energy per pixel and the resulting grey value) is assumed. If the detector characteristics, which affect the simulated deposited energy, are properly modelled, the slope and offset of the response function to match the measured grey values should be the same for different tube spectra. As the offset is constant and given by the grey values measured at no incident radiation, the slope is the remaining parameter to evaluate the success of the detector modelling. We therefore adapted the detector characteristics by changing the detector setup until the slope was nearly the same for all measured tube spectra. We are aware that the resulting parameters of the scintillator material and thickness might not be the real ones, but with those modelling parameters we are able to simulate realistic grey values in aRTist 2. Both of those approaches could potentially be a step forward to a full systematic approach for a digital twin of a real CT system in aRTist 2.

    <title language="eng">Influence of Surface Preparation on Cracking Phenomena in TIG-Welded High and Medium Entropy Alloys</title>
Multi-element systems with defined entropy (HEA—high entropy alloy or MEA—medium entropy alloy) are rather new material concepts that are becoming increasingly important in materials research and development. Some HEA systems show significantly improved properties or combinations of properties, e.g., the overcoming of the trade-off between high strength and ductility. Thus, the synthesis, the resulting microstructures, and properties of HEA have been primarily investigated so far. In addition, processing is crucial to achieve a transfer of potential HEA/MEA materials to real applications, e.g., highly stressed components. Since fusion welding is the most important joining process for metals, it is of vital importance to investigate the weldability of these materials. However, this has rarely been the subject of research to date. For that reason, in this work, the weldability depending on the surface preparation of a CoCrFeMnNi HEA and a CoCrNi MEA for TIG welding is investigated. The fusion welding of longer plates is described here for the first time for the CoCrNi alloy. The welds of both materials showed distinct formation of cracks in the heat affected Zone (HAZ). Optical and scanning electron microscopy analysis clearly confirmed an intergranular fracture topography. However, based on the results, the crack mechanism cannot be conclusively identified as either a liquid metal embrittlement (LME) or hot cracking-like liquid film separation.

    <title language="eng">Do Microbes like Additively Manufactured Aluminium? First Details of a Corrosion Test using Sulphate-Reducing Bacteria</title>
Additively manufactured metals become relevant for industrial application. Although many studies on wet corrosion of these metals have been conducted, to the authors knowledge no study seems to contain microbiological corrosion (MIC). In the presented study an experiment was conducted on PBF-LB/AlSi10Mg to test this material's susceptibility for MIC. The tested specimen were analysed using Computed Tomography before and after the MIC experiment to enable a detailed characterisation the damage on the specimens' global and local level. A global reduction of material was observed. In addition, localised damage along process inherent features of the materials microstructure was observed.

    <title language="eng">Investigation on the fatigue strength of AlSi10Mg fabricated by PBF-LB/M and subjected to low temperature heat treatments</title>
This work provides an investigation of the influence of low temperature heat treatments on the fatigue behavior of a PBF-LB AlSi10Mg alloy. Fatigue specimens are produced in form of round bars on a build platform preheated at 200 ◦C. The specimens have been tested in three different conditions: as-built, and after heat treatments at 265 ◦C for 1 h and 300 ◦C for 2 h. Prior to the fatigue testing, the defect distribution is analyzed by means of micro computed tomography. Subsequently, the peak over threshold method is successfully applied to provide a prediction of the size of killer defect. The defect population was of gas porosity type. No clear improvement of the fatigue performance is observed after the heat treatments. The fatigue strength predicted using fracture mechanics-based approaches is in good agreement with the experimental data. Among the studied approaches, short crack models provided the most conservative predictions.

    <title language="eng">Relation of craze to crack length during slow crack growth phenomena in high‐density polyethylene</title>
    <abstract language="eng">The craze‐crack mechanism occurring in high‐density polyethylene (HDPE) causing slow crack growth and environmental stress cracking is investigated in detail with respect to the relation of crack length and the related craze zone. This is essential for the understanding of the resulting features of the formed fracture surface and their interpretation in the context of the transition from crack propagation to ductile shear deformation. It turns out that an already formed craze zone does not inevitably result in formation of a propagating crack, but could also undergo ductile failure. For the examination, the full notch creep test (FNCT) was employed with a subsequent advanced fracture surface analysis that was performed using various imaging techniques: light microscopy, laser scanning microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X‐ray micro computed tomography scan. FNCT specimens were progressively damaged for increasing durations under standard test conditions applying Arkopal, the standard surfactant solution, and biodiesel as test media were used to analyze the stepwise growth of cracks and crazes. From considerations based on well‐established fracture mechanics approaches, a theoretical correlation between the length of the actual crack and the length of the preceding craze zone was established that could be evidenced and affirmed by FNCT fracture surface analysis. Moreover, the yield strength of a HDPE material exposed to a certain medium as detected by a classic tensile test was found to be the crucial value of true stress to induce the transition from crack propagation due to the craze‐crack mechanism to shear deformation during FNCT measurements.&#13;
Highlights&#13;
- Progress of crack formation in high‐density polyethylene is analyzed by different imaging techniques&#13;
- Determined growth rates depend on distinction between craze zone and crack&#13;
- The ratio of the present crack to the anteceding craze zone is validated theoretically&#13;
- The transition from crack propagation to ductile shear deformation is identified&#13;
- An already formed craze zone may still fail by ductile mechanisms

    <title language="eng">Identification of damage mechanisms in a metal-matrix composite material via digital volume correlation and finite element model updating</title>
A 3D experimental and numerical investigation of the damage mechanisms induced by compression in a metal matrix composite is presented. The investigated composite is a simplified version of those typically used for heavy-duty brake linings, comprising only nine constituents. The analysis combines laboratory X-ray computed tomography (XCT), image volume correlation (DVC), as well as image-based finite element method (FEM) paired with an inverse identification approach known as finite element model updating (FEMU). The combination of in situ XCT and DVC allows the rationalization of the mechanisms controlling strain localization and damage accumulation within the heterogeneous metal matrix. The damage mainly occurs in the form of fractured material within thin cell-walls located between large graphite G2 particles. In addition, the herein developed FEMU approach enables the identification of the elastic moduli of the two defined key constituents controlling the macroscopic compressive behavior (i.e., the Matrix –where eight of the nine constituents are lumped– and G2 particles), as well as the prediction of the damaged regions within the Matrix. It is emphasized that an implementation of the damage mechanisms within the FEMU is essential for a reliable numerical prediction of the compressive response of the composite.

    <title language="eng">Torsional fatigue mechanisms of an A357-T6 cast aluminium alloy</title>
The mechanisms controlling the fatigue response of an A357-T6 cast aluminium alloy under cyclic torsional loading are investigated. Surface crack monitoring coupled with Electron BackScattering Diffraction (EBSD) analysis is used to study crack initiation. Determination of S-N curve combined with interrupted in situ fatigue testing using synchrotron tomography allows the study of the propagation behaviour. It is observed that fractographic morphologies depend on the stress level. At intermediate-low stress levels ( τmax &lt; 100 MPa), the grain structure controls the crack initiation and propagation periods. Cracks are usually nucleated in mode II from slip planes close to the specimen axis or perpendicular to it. Mode II crack growth dominates the early stages of crack propagation as mode III inward crack growth is rapidly decelerated. This behaviour leads to the formation of characteristic shallow surface cracks. Once the crack is long enough for the mode II driving force to be overtaken by mode III, propagation branches into ~45 ◦mode I.

    <title language="eng">Influence of Pore Size and Crystallography on the Small Crack HCF Behavior of an A357-T6 Cast Aluminum Alloy</title>
The high-cycle fatigue, small crack propagation behavior of an A357-T6 cast aluminum alloy is investigated. Laboratory X-ray micro-computed tomography (μCT) is used to assist in the manufacturing of two flat fatigue specimens containing subsurface shrinkage pores of different sizes (Pore 1 √A=522μm against Pore 2 √A=280μm). Surface crack monitoring is performed by means of optical microscopy and the cracked specimens are analyzed via scanning electron microscopy and electron backscatter diffraction techniques. The subsurface pores tend to induce intergranular crack nucleation, principally when the grain boundaries are oriented perpendicular to the loading direction. Pore 1 induces a fatigue life reduction of 500.000 cycles when compared to Pore 2. The crystallography is able to influence small crack propagation by slightly decelerating the crack growth rates as well as by altering the crack path topography. Tailoring of the crystallography for improved fatigue resistance requires an investigation of the optimal largest defect to grain size ratio.

    <title language="eng">Measurement-based Detector Characteristics for Digital Twins in aRTist 2</title>
    <abstract language="eng">Various software products for the simulation of industrial X-ray radiography have been developed in recent years (e.g., aRTist 2, CIVA CT, Scorpius XLab, SimCT, Wilcore) and their application potential has been shown in numerous works. However, full systematic approaches to characterise a specific CT system for these simulation software products to obtain a truthful digital twin are still missing. In this contribution, we want to present two approaches to obtain realistic grey values in X-ray projections in aRTist 2 simulations based on measured projections. In aRTist 2, the displayed grey value of a pixel is based on the energy density incident on that pixel.&#13;
The energy density is calculated based on the X-ray tube spectrum, the attenuation between source and detector as well as an energy-dependent sensitivity curve of the detector. The first approach presented in this contribution uses the sensitivity curve as a free modelling parameter. We measured the signal response at different thicknesses of Al EN-AW6082 at different tube voltages (i.e., different tube spectra). We then regarded the grey values displayed by these projections as a data regression respectively an optimisation problem and obtained the sensitivity curve that is best able to reproduce the measured behaviour in aRTist 2. The resulting sensitivity curve does not necessarily hold physical meaning but is able to simulate the real system behaviour in the simulation software.&#13;

    <title language="deu">Sensitivitätstest für ausgewählte X-Ray CT Prüfkörper</title>
    <abstract language="eng">Industrial X-Ray computed tomography (XCT) is an alternative procedure to tactile coordinate measuring machines (CMM) for dimensional measurement as it has the advantage to be able to measure internal and external features. However, the uncertainty determination according to the standard VDI/VDE 2630 Part 2.1 is both complex and resource consuming. The procedure could be simplified with the help of computer simulations if a suitable digital replica of the XCT machine is available.&#13;
The project CTSimU2 has the aim of establishing a guideline for evaluating the applicability of such a digital replica. In this context, the work presented here focuses on: determining the sensitivity of two specimens, on several modelling parameters; determining the significance of the modelled parameters; and estimating the sensitivity of the specimens measurands. The approach was to determine the effects of selected parameters and parameter interactions on dimensional measurands of the specimens by simulation. These effects were determined by varying the parameters in accordance with a D-optimal experimental design, with 83 runs for 10 parameters. The measurands were distances, flatness of fitted planes, cylindricities of fitted cylinders, and testing of modular transfer function on edges. By definition the effects are linked to the coefficients of the statistical model – multiple linear regression – related to the design criterion.&#13;
The results yielded good models with high regression coefficients. The models for distances were dominated by the geometrical parameters, whereas parallelism and flatness responded more to x-ray parameters. The results have shown that both specimens are necessary to test the digital replica.

    <title language="eng">Realistic simulation of real X-ray computed tomography systems with basic-qualified simulation software - the CTSimU2 project</title>
Industrial X-ray computed tomography (CT) completely captures workpieces, including their inner and outer structures for metrology purposes. However, previous effort to determine task-specific measurement uncertainty is not always justifiable. Simulating the measuring process allows to estimate measurement uncertainty numerically and to predict systematic measurement deviations. For any future simulation applications it is essential that the simulation is reliable. The WIPANO research project CTSimU2 – “Realistic Simulation of Realistic X-Ray Computed Tomography Systems with basic-qualified simulation software” aims to develop tools for realistic replication of industrial CT systems in a simulation software. As a precondition, simulation software systems must be basic-qualified by the test framework developed in the previous project CTSimU1. The test framework tests sufficient physical correctness and functionality of the software. For a realistic simulation, not only the quality of the software, but in particular the quality of the real CT system’s parameterization within the simulation software is crucial. Four steps yield the desired parametrization: First, acquire data on the real CT system (step 1), evaluate data to generate general parameter specifications (step 2), transfer parameters into the specific simulation software (step 3), and validate parameters with a suitable test (step 4). In addition to developing a toolbox with general methods for data acquisition and data evaluation, this project therefore aims to develop a test, on the basis of which the sufficiently correct simulation of a real system can be evaluated. As in the preliminary project CTSimU1, the results obtained are to be transferred into a draft guideline for the VDI/VDE 2630 series of guidelines. This article presents an overview of the project and the initial results. Acknowledgments: This work was funded through the project Wipano-CTSimU2 (WIPANO project 03TN0049A-L). WIPANO projects are financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and managed by Project Management Jülich.

    <title language="eng">Artistlib - remote control the radiographic simulator aRTist from Python</title>
The software aRTist is a simulation tool for the generation of realistic radiographs of virtual radiographic superstructures. With radiographic simulations, virtual component models can be scanned as in a computed-tomography scanner. In modern radiography, simulation has become an important tool to minimize cost- and time-intensive measurements. It is increasingly used to optimize techniques for complex applications, to support the method developments, and for educational purposes. With Artistlib, we have started the development of a programming interface to support use cases where the interactive use of the graphical user interface is not suitable. The open-source Python library is intended to remote control and automate the radiographic simulator aRTist.

    <title language="deu">Realistische Simulation von Röntgencomputertomografie-Systemen</title>
