    <title language="eng">Uninvited and welcomed guests in museums – biological management of clothes moths and woodworms</title>
    <abstract language="eng">In museums and historic houses clothes, moths (Tineola bisselliella, Tinea pellionella) and the furniture beetle (Anobium punctatum) are the most economically important pests on textiles or wooden artifacts, respectively. Their management is essential to protect cultural ethnological heritage and natural history collections for future generations.&#13;
Pest management strategies have changed over time. Today, intensive knowledge on pest biology and overall material science are key cornerstones in IPM concepts - also for the Museum environment. The important first steps for sustainable pest management are risk assessment, early pest detection and identification of pathways of infestation. These steps are followed by physical and biological means of control, which have lately gained more importance than applying biocides. Several potentially effective biological enemies of clothes moths and woodworm have been known for a long time, but their promotion for pest control in Museums and historic houses is just beginning.&#13;
This short review summarizes current concepts of pest life cycle interruption by applying good quarantine and very specific biological measures. The lessons learned from recent faunistic surveys, life-history studies as well as behavioral observations of parasitoids and predators of clothes moths and woodworm may supplement the pest management tool box. The need for further research in this field is addressed.</abstract>

    <title language="eng">Genetic relationships of local infestations by Anobium punctatum, Xestobium rufovillosum and their associated predator Korynetes caeruleus from buildings in North-Eastern Germany</title>
    <abstract language="eng">Wood-destroying pests such as Anobium punctatum and Xestobium rufovillosum cause damage to art and cultural objects as well as to buildings. Monitoring population dynamics of pest species as well as of their naturally occurring counterparts are an essential part in the development of biological control measures as alternatives to conventional wood protection. Therefore, both the dispersal and homogeneity of pest and beneficial insect populations across multiple sites and buildings were investigated in the present study using DNA barcoding. Specifically, beetles of Anobium punctatum (de Geer 1774) (Coleoptera, Ptinidae), Xestobium rufovillosum (de Geer, 1974) (Coloeptera, Ptinidae), and Korynetes caeruleus (de Geer 1775) (Coleoptera, Cleridae) were collected from buildings at four different sites in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, North-Eastern Germany. DNA analysis was performed using mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI). For A. punctatum, low base pair variability was found in the gene segment studied (4-5 SNPs) within one building (Greven) and between four spatially separated sites. Conversely, in X. rufovillosum, the sequences from two sites studied were homogeneous within a site but differed between locations by nine base pair positions (SNPs). The main result of this study is that the pests A. punctatum and X. rufovillosum showed a higher variability in the investigated gene segment than the natural counterpart K. caeruleus.</abstract>

    <title language="deu">Eignung von Korynetes caeruleus (Coleoptera: Cleridae) zur biologischen Bekämpfung von Anobium punctatum (Coleoptera, Ptinidae)</title>
    <abstract language="deu">Larven und adulte Käfer von Korynetes caeruleus (DE GEER 1775) (Coleoptera: Cleridae) wurden in alten Kirchen gesammelt und im Labor auf Kulturen von Anobium punctatum (DE GEER 1774) (Coleoptera, Ptinidae, früher Anobiidae) aufgezogen. Der Bruterfolg von K. caeruleus war gering, aber es wurden grundlegende Parameter des Entwicklungszyklus dieser Art ermittelt. Bei 21 °C und 75 % relativer Luftfeuchtigkeit und einer viermonatigen Kälteperiode bei 4 °C dauerte die Entwicklung von K. caeruleus vom Ei bis zum erwachsenen Tier 2 Jahre. Das Puppenstadium kann nach eineinhalb Jahren erreicht und abgeschlossen werden.&#13;
Die Larven von K. caeruleus ernährten sich von den Larven von A. punctatum. Die Nahrungsaufnahme ist eine Kombination aus Saugen von Hämolymphe und Verzehr von Körperteilen. Die sichelartigen Mandibeln der Larven von K. caeruleus durchdringen die Cuticula der Beutetierlarven, gefolgt von pumpenden und saugenden Körperbewegungen.&#13;
Erwachsene Käfer von A. punctatum wurden von K. caeruleus-Larven nicht angegriffen. Das Fressverhalten von erwachsenen K. caeruleus wurde nicht untersucht.</abstract>

    <abstract language="deu">Die aus der Kirche in Greven entnommenen A. punctatum wiesen größere genetische Unterschiede auf als die aus der isolierten Zucht der BAM. Dies lässt vermuten, dass ein Austausch von zufliegenden oder eingeschleppten Individuen zu einer erhöhten genetischen Variabilität beiträgt.&#13;
Die Ergebnisse der Sequenzanalysen vom Standort Greven zeigten, dass vier Variationen vorhanden waren. Die DNA-Barcodes aus der Datenbank NCBI (Frankreich, Finnland und Deutschland) besaßen nur SNPs, die bereits aus den Insekten der Kirche in Greven bekannt waren. Nach aktueller Datenlage für den betrachteten Genabschnitt sind diese Varianten (V2 bis V22) als repräsentativ für den mitteleuropäischen Raum anzunehmen.&#13;
Potenzielle weitere Varianten lassen sich nur über eine größere Stichprobenanzahl entdecken/finden. Die Ergebnisse der Käferproben aus der isolierten Zucht der BAM sind deutlich homogener und entsprachen der Variante 1 aus Greven. Die Variante 1 wurde ebenfalls in vier französischen und einer deutschen Probe aus der NCBI-Datenbank nachgewiesen.&#13;
Die Ergebnisse deuten auf zwei Hauptvariationen (Vx und V20) hin, wobei die eine (VJ homogener als die andere (V20) zu sein scheint. Da für den Räuber K. caeruleus keine Unterschiede in der COI gefunden wurden, gilt zu prüfen, ob der gewählte Genabschnitt für die Untersuchung repräsentativ ist. Dies ist mit einer höheren Probenzahl zu validieren.</abstract>

    <title language="eng">Laboratory breeding of Korynetes caeruleus (Coleoptera: Cleridae) for the biological of Anobium punctatum) (Coleoptera, Ptinidae)</title>
    <abstract language="eng">Larvae and adults of Korynetes caeruleus (de Geer 1775) (Coleoptera: Cleridae) were collected from old churches and reared in the laboratory on Anobium punctatum (de Geer 1774) (Coleoptera: Ptinidae). Breeding success of K. caeruleus was low, but basic parameters of this species’ developmental cycle were identiﬁ ed. At 21°C and 75% relative humidity and a fourmonth cold period at 4°C, the development of K. caeruleus from egg to adult appearance lasted 2 years. The pupal stage may be reached and completed after one and a half years. Feeding on larvae of A. punctatum by larvae of K. caeruleus was observed and consisted of a combination of sucking haemolymph and consuming body parts. The sickle-like mandibles of larvae of K. caeruleus penetrate the cuticle of prey larvae; this is followed by pumping and sucking body movements. Adult beetles of A. punctatum were not attacked by K. caeruleus larvae. Feeding behaviour of adult K. caeruleus was not investigated.</abstract>
