Reliability Investigation of NDE Systems by Modular Analysis of Recorded Data
During the second European-American Workshop on NDE Reliability, September 99 in Boulder, the term NDE reliability was defined as the degree that an NDT system is capable of achieving its purpose regarding detection, characterization and false calls. The most common but also most expensive - way to determine this degree of capability in e.g. defect detection is to make just a performance demonstration using realistic test samples and to count the correct detections and false calls. For a more efficient way of reliability evaluation we propose to decompose the system into main modules e.g. according to the reliability formula set up on the first workshop: into f(IC) a function of IC the intrinsic capability, determined by the physics and the technique of the NDE method representing an ideal upper bound of the reliability and g(AP) a function of AP the industrial application factor like surface state or limited access to a component in general diminishing the ideal capability and finally h(HF) the function of the human factor which is in general also diminishing the ideal capability. The workshop proposed a rather plain mathematical shape for the formula R = f(IC) g(AP) h(HF) which should be considered merely as a philosophical expression but not as exact mathematical formula to be applied for evaluation of e.g. POD data. We propose to decompose the NDE system into modules in terms of functions of IC, AP and HF if appropriate or additional ones if necessary and then to analyze the mutual relationships of the terms via fault tree analysis. Finally the total reliability of the system is composed of the reliability of the subsystems via the rules of statistical systems theory.
First trials for this approach of data analysis will be presented via examples from NDE systems in the aerospace industry.

New System for Mechanised X-Ray Inspection of Welded Austenic Pipes
One of the most important tasks for in-service weld inspection of Circumferential welds is the detection of planar defects and its sizing. The information about the shape, length and depth of defects like cracks and lack of fusion can be measured quantitatively with a mechanised system for manipulation of X-ray source and line camera. The well adjusted manipulation system allows the testing of pipes with a
diameter between 176 mm and 500 mm. The system is based on several modules, which can be adjusted to the testing problem. The energy of the X-ray tube amounts 225 keV. The pixel resolution of the line camera is 50µm for 2048 pixels per line. The camera and the X-ray tube are separated on the pipe by an angle of 180°. They are moved line by line around the circumference to acquire the radiometric image.
The basic problem of radiography as well as of the radiometric scan technique is the dependence of the measured crack contrast on the radiation direction in relation to the crack location. Only parallel transmission to the crack plane provides sufficient contrast. This requires application of the multi-angle technique. The developed scanner enables modification of the radiation direction. It is possible to set up the system for a special inspection of side wall flaws. Scanning the weld under different angles provides multi -angle projections which improve the probability of detection for planar inhomogeneities in the material like cracks and lack of fusion.
Furthermore, the multi-angle technique provides enough information for a 3D-reconstruction of the weld structure. New methods of digital laminography and tomosynthesis permit the measurement of the shape and depth of the indications.
The developed system, which is applicable for mobile in service inspection, is presented together with the results of the measurement techniques like planar scan, coplanar laminography, tomosynthesis and cross-sectional planar tomography.

Location of Reinforcement in Structures by Different Methods of Gamma-Radiography
The quantitative measurement of kind, positions and diameters of steel reinforce ments in building constructions is a typical inspection problem in civil engineering. A classical solution is the combination of film radiography with the multi angle technique and graphical backprojection. New digital detectors reduce the exposure time and allow the application of stereo radiography and computed laminography as routine applications.
The computed laminography allows fast and effectively the determination of the depth of reinforcements in concrete or masonry. A selected area of the steel re-bar structure is penetrated by gamma-rays from different angles of incidence (multi angle-technique) with a Co-60-source. Instead of a radiographic film phosphor imaging plates were used as a new digital medium for filmless radiography. A 3D-image of the measured region of interest is reconstructed from the digitised projections of a test block. The reconstruction is based on special tomosynthesis algorithms which need few projections only.
Radiographic techniques were uses in completion to other techniques like radar, electromagnetic alternating field inspection to examine the structure of different buildings. Experiences of inspections of historical buildings, ancient marble structures and a bridge girder are presented where different levels of radiography were applied.

Mobile computed tomography for inspection of large stationary components in nuclear and aerospace industries
Mobile Tomographic Computer Aided Radiometry (TomoCAR) is based on the mechanical position control of an X-ray tube in front of an object and the application of a Digital Detector Array (DDA) behind it. Several hundred radiometric projections in small angle steps are acquired during the controlled movement of the X-ray tube along a preselected way. The tomographic or laminographic reconstruction allows the three-dimensional (3D) representation of flaws. A specially designed radiometric detector array with small internal unsharpness and high image contrast was used for visualization and sizing of planar and volumetric defects in austenitic welds in nuclear power plants. A German pilot study was successfully performed on the basis of the European network of inspection and qualification (ENIQ) guidelines. This was the precondition for several applications of TomoCAR in nuclear power stations in Germany and Switzerland.
A versatile computed tomography (CT) system was developed on basis of the TomoCAR design for in situ inspection of large aircraft components under production conditions. A gate based planar computed tomograph was constructed and tested for inspection of the integrity of CFRP stringers, embedded in aircraft fibre composite shells. A probability of crack visibility >90% could be determined.

Assessment of hot cracking behaviour in welds
Hot crack assessment during production and processing of metallic materials is an essential prerequisite for the safety of welded structures. The hot cracking investigations presented here were carried out as part of a study aimed at the development of Cr/Ni low transformation temperature filler materials. Low transformation temperature alloys open up the possibility for welding high strength steels. The externally loaded Modified Varestraint Transvarestraint hot cracking test was employed in the experiments described. The hot cracking resistance was evaluated with the help of light microscopy applied at the specimen surface. The proportionality between hot cracking susceptibility and Cr/Ni alloy content was explained by the altered solidification kinetics and by the enlarged solidification interval. The internal crack paths and the three-dimensional structure of the crack net in the material volume were examined using X-ray computer tomography. The total crack lengths for different material depths and circumjacent rectangular volumes, respectively, were be determined. An increasing hot cracking susceptibility with increasing Cr/Ni alloy content was also be established for the specimen volume.

Ultrasonic Imaging Methods for Investigation of Post-tensioned Concrete Structures: A Study of Interfaces at Artificial Grouting Faults and Its Verification
This paper presents the progress of successful location of grouting faults in tendon ducts with ultrasonic imaging. The examples were obtained in the research group FOR 384 funded by DFG (German Research Foundation). The co-operation of experimental research and modeling allowed imaging and identification of grouted and ungrouted areas of tendon ducts (including strands) in a large test specimen (40 m²). In addition to the criteria for indicating grouting faults in post-tensioned ducts known until now the phase evaluation of reflected ultrasonic pulses is described. Experiments and modeling of wave propagation are presented for reflections at metal plates in concrete (thickness range 0.5 mm to 40 mm) and for tendon ducts including strands.
The main part of the progress was achieved by automated measurements using dry contact transducers, 3D-SAFT reconstruction including phase evaluation and modeling considering wave propagation for typical elastic parameters and exact experimental site conditions. The results for shear waves as well as for pressure waves are compared in the frequency range from 50 kHz to 120 kHz.

Mobile 3D-X-Ray Tomography for Analysis of Planar Defects in Welds by "Tomocar"
Tomographical Computer Aided Radiology (TomoCAR) is based on the mechanical position control of
an X-ray tube in front of a welding seam and the application of a planar array detector behind it. Several hundred
radiometric projections in small angle steps are acquired. The tomographical reconstruction allows the three-dimensional
(3D) representation of the defects. A new radiometric array detector system with a small internal
unsharpness and high image contrast is used for the 2- and 3-dimensional visualization and sizing of planar defects
with a defect opening of less than 100 µm. This detector is based on a CMOS-flat panel with a direct converting
CdTe-single crystal layer. The small design allows the application of the mobile testing equipment for mechanized
X-ray inspection in industrial plants. The physical pixel size of the detector amounts to 0,1x0,1 mm². Nevertheless,
this system yields a better spatial resolution than indirect converting detectors (e.g. cameras with fluorescence
layers of Gd2O2S). It allows the reliable detection of planar defects with openings far below the detector pixel size
by subpixel resolution.
'TomoCAR' is qualified at present in the context with a German pilot study following to the ENIQ guidelines for
the employment within the nuclear power industry.

Mobile X-ray computed tomography for nuclear and aviation industry
Digital detectors such as phosphor imaging plates (IP) and digital detector arrays (DDA) enable radiographic inspection with higher efficiency and improved image quality in comparison to the classic film technique. The mobile mechanised tomographic system TomoCAR (tomographic computer aided radiology) was developed first for inspection of circumferential welded seams of pipes. It consists of the manipulator based position control of an X-ray tube in front of the region to inspect and a digital detector array behind it. The high contrast sensitivity technique was combined with planar tomography. The tomographic reconstruction allows the three-dimensional (3D) representation of the material structure and included defects, equivalent to a metallographic cross sectioning. The hardware design is based on a specially developed flat X-ray tube and a direct converting CMOS detector array on CdTe basis. TomoCAR is applied for sizing of volumetric and planar defects. It allows the reliable detection of planar defects with openings larger than 25µm by subpixel resolution due to the achieved high signal-to-noise ratio. TomoCAR was successfully qualified as the result of a German pilot study on the basis of the European Network of Inspection and Qualification (ENIQ) guidelines for application in the nuclear power industry. Application examples are presented. The TomoCAR design was modified for in situ inspection of large aircraft components under production conditions. A gantry gate based planar tomograph was constructed and tested for inspection of the integrity of large flat CFRP panel components of up to 3 m × 9 m size. The integrity of imbedded stringers has been successfully observed. Different trials were performed to prove the finding rate of cracks in embedded stringers, which will be presented and discussed.

Muon Tomography of the Interior of a Reinforced Concrete Block: First Experimental Proof of Concept
Quality assurance and condition assessment of concrete structures is an important topic world-wide due to the aging infrastructure and increasing traffic demands. Common topics include, but are not limited to, localisation of rebar or tendon ducts, geometrical irregularities, cracks, voids, honeycombing or other flaws. Non-destructive techniques such as ultrasound or radar have found regular, successful practical application but sometimes suffer from limited resolution and accuracy, imaging artefacts or restrictions in detecting certain features. Until the 1980s X-ray transmission was used in case of special demands and showed a much better resolution than other NDT techniques. However, due to safety concerns and cost issues, this method is almost never used anymore. Muon tomography has received much attention recently. Novel detectors for cosmic muons and tomographic imaging algorithms have opened up new fields of application, such as the investigation of freight containers. Muon imaging also has the potential to fill some of the gaps currently existing in concrete NDT. As a first step towards practical use and as a proof of concept we used an existing system to image the interior of a reference reinforced 600 kg concrete block. Even with a yet not optimized setup for this kind of investigation, the muon imaging results are at least of similar quality compared to ultrasonic and radar imaging, potentially even better. The data acquisition takes more time and signals contain more noise, but the images allowed to detect the same important features that are visible in conventional high energy X-ray tomography. In our experiment, we have shown that muon imaging has potential for concrete inspection. The next steps include the development of mobile detectors and optimising acquisition and imaging parameters.

Mobile X-ray Inspection of light weight materials
Digital detectors such as phosphor imaging plates (IP) and digital detector arrays (DDA) allow radiographic inspection with higher efficiency and improved image quality in comparison to the classic film technique. Mobile X-ray flash tubes are used routinely for veterinarian and security applications. New high sensetive IPs and DDAs enable to apply them for inspection of light materials with low X-ray attenuation as in aluminium, plastics and composites. A versatile computed tompgraphy (CT) system was developed for in situ inspection of large aircraft components under production conditions. A gate based planar computed tomograph wsa developed and testes for inspection of integrety of the stringer incorporation. Successful test trials were performed to prove the detection rate of cracks in embedded stringers. Honey comb structures of aircrafts have to be inspected for water inclusions during in-service inspections. Thermography is a powerful method for in house inspections when variations in temperature caused e. g. by sunshine can be excluded. A new X-ray diaphragm was developed for mobile back scatter measurements of large components. This method is insensitive to heat alterations in the field and thus can be applied also outdoors.

3D- X-Ray high Energy Testing of Large Objects with Specialized Manipulation Trajectories
High-energy radiography is traditionally used for the detection of defects in thick-walled, bulky components. It is also used for testing the integrity of components for civil and security-related applications, e.g. containers. The combination of high-energy sources with digital detector arrays or line cameras allows carrying out the tests either in a shorter time compared to film technique, or with higher contrast sensitivity.
The high-energy X-ray laboratory "HEXYLab" at BAM is a joint laboratory in which future users, manufacturers and scientists collaborate to initiate and develop joint development projects. The new universal manipulation system “HEXYTech” provides the engineering and technical base for meeting different requirements within HEXYLab.
Different types of trajectories for tube, object and detector can be programmed with a total of 13 rotational and linear axes. In particular, large objects with complex geometries can be examined. Measurements can be acquired as 2D images via standard radiography as well as 3D volumes from laminography or computed tomography reconstructions.
The general rules for the application of high-energy radiography with digital detectors (imaging plates, digital detector arrays) were determined within the framework of the European project "HEDRad" (High Energy Digital Radiography) and added to the standard DIN EN ISO 17636-2.
The paper gives an overview of the test technique and introduces several applications on the basis of experiments and reconstructed 3D- images.

Digital radiology with photon counting detectors
The progress in X-ray detector electronics (sensitivity and speed) allows meanwhile fast single photon detection by a matrix detector. Combined photon counting and energy discrimination is implemented in the electronic circuit of each detector pixel. The company XCounter developed detectors based on CdTe single crystals, which can be tiled to larger areas and have a pixel size of 100ìm. The largest area available in beginning of 2014 is 50x75 mm². These detectors have very promising properties, which make them very suitable for NDT applications:
1. A CdTe attenuation layer of 750 µm thickness allows efficient X-ray detection up to ca. 300 keV. In counting mode only photon noise is important; no other detector noise sources need to be considered. There is no Offset signal without radiation.
2. Each of the detector pixels has two energy thresholds. These can be used for dual energy imaging for materials separation. Also the suppression of scattered radiation by energy thresholding will improve the image contrast sensitivity. First experiments will be presented which demonstrate the advantages of this new detector technology over the conventional charge integrating detectors.
A challenge is the development of a modified detector calibration procedure, which becomes critical at longer exposure times.

A comparative study on the performance of digital detector systems for high energy applications
For cast components reaching or exceeding total material thicknesses of 150mm, high energy sources such as linear accelerators or Betatrons are required in order to obtain reasonable exposure times. In this study, the performance of digital detector systems, involving imaging plates (IP) and digital detector arrays (DDA), was evaluated with respect to the testing class B requirements as formulated in the standard EN ISO 17636-2. As a reference, traditional radiographic film and a Cobalt-60 source was used. With film exposures, testing class B was achieved with Co-60 and Betatron (7.5 MV) at longer exposure times. The preliminary results show that the testing class B was not obtained with the examined digital detector arrays (DDA) and the high resolution imaging plates (IP) , even at 40, 60 and 80 minutes exposure time with a 7.5 MV Betatron. Class A was achieved using high resolution imaging plates with optimized metal filters between object and IPs and a high resolution DDA with intermediate Cu filters. Class A was also achieved applying a DDA with lower basic spatial resolution than required by Table B.13 of EN ISO 17636-2, but using the compensation principle as described in this standard. The next generation of digital detector arrays might potentially be able to obtain class B performance with the expected spatial resolution and sensitivity improvements.

Mobile high-energy X-ray inspection of cargo containers with complex scenarios: results of the SEFLOG project
The research and development (R&D) in the field of safety and security of sea-freight Containers has gained more importance after the U.S. house resolution 1 (H.R.1). According to this law, all the freight Containers which are transported from non-U.S. port of origin to U.S. ports should be inspected 100% against explosive and contraband materials using non-intrusive imaging equipment and radiation detectors. As the port of Hamburg and Bremerhaven are the leading Container ports in Europe, it is essential to develop reliable and high-resolution detection technologies for the non-destructive inspection of large sea-freight Containers.

Dual high-energy X-ray digital radiography for material discrimination in cargo containers
In this contribution, we present a dual high-energy X-ray imaging technique for cargo container inspection using the 'spectral high-energy X-ray attenuation method'. This method is based on attenuation of continuous highenergy spectra. The developed experimental technique consists of a betatron as high-energy (up to 7.5 MeV) X-ray source and a matrix detector with high spatial resolution (400 ìm) for digital X-ray imaging. In order to evaluate the material discrimination capability using dual high-energy X-ray imaging, a test specimen is proposed, comprising step wedges of different low and high atomic number (Z) materials. The selected X-ray spectra for the dual-energy experiments correspond to 3 MV and 7.5 MV acceleration potential of the betatron. We evaluated the ratio between low- and high-energy X-ray attenuation coefficients quantitatively based on simulated poly-energetic high-energy X-ray source spectra and the detector sensitivity using the 'analytical Radiographic Testing inspection simulation tool' (aRTist) developed at BAM. The simulated effective attenuation coefficients are compared with corresponding experimental results in order to establish a method for identification of low- and high-Z materials in the container. Finally, important applications of the proposed technique in the context of aviation security are discussed.

Grouting defects localized by ultrasonic testing including phase evaluation
Grouting defects, e.g. in post-tensioned structures or piped anchors may be identified by ultrasonic imaging. Since several years experiences are carried out with false color displayed phase values, which enable distinct localization of ungrouted regions.
In this contribution we report on progress in localizing grouting defects in tendon ducts, when they are only partly grouted and the unfilled part is not orientated into the direction of the measuring surface. This is frequently the case e.g. for box girder structures.
Düring the project specimens containing different types of grouting faults are investigated in Order to optimize measuring and evaluation techniques. A handheld linear array System (commercially available) is applied for fast 2D-measurement and subsequent phase sensitive 3D-imaging (new Software development).
In a large concrete wall specimen tendon ducts and real prestressing Systems containing grouting defects were built in. The ducts are partly covered by non prestressed reinforcement bars in order to investigate its disturbing influence. These included objects were investigated afterwards with the described methods. We report on large area measuring results, which were partly verified by y-radiography. In the frame of practical application results of measuring the position and extend of a blockade within a posttensioned structure are presen ted.

Mobile high-energy X-ray radiography for nondestructive testing of cargo containers
Radiologic evaluation techniques are nondestructive testing (NDT) used to detect the bulk of explosives and contraband materials in large objects. As compared to conventional low-energy (<450 key) X-ray imaging, high-energy (>1 MeV) digital X-ray radiography is required for the NOT of large containers because of the need for high penetration through thick materials, sensitivity, and the ability to distinguish between low-and high-Z materials. Mobile, high-energy, and high-resolution radiologic techniques are useful to detect contraband and threat materials in digital radiographic images of containers with complex packing. This paper presents a mobile, high-energy X-ray radiographic technique for the in-field nondestructive inspection of cargo containers. The developed experimental technique consisted of a betatron as a high-energy (7.5 MeV) X-ray source and a high-resolution (400 mu m) matrix detector for the digital X-ray imaging. In order to evaluate the detection efficiency and image quality of the measurement technique, a test specimen was proposed that was made of a 3 mm thick steel container with an inner dimension of 60 x 30 x 40 cm(3) comprising different low-and high-Z materials. Image quality indicators were used to assess the essential image quality parameters such as image basic spatial resolution, effective attenuation coefficient, and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Experimental investigations were performed on a 6.1 m sea freight container with mockup dangerous materials in complex packing. Preliminary experimental results showed that the proposed technique was able to distinguish between liquids and solids, as well as detect contraband materials. Furthermore, a remarkable SNR of 400 was achieved in the measured digital X-ray images. The influence of temperature on X-ray radiation dose rate at different X-ray energies was also investigated. Finally, important applications of the proposed technique in the context of maritime security are discussed.

X-ray laminographic inspection of sandwich shell segments for wind turbine rotor blades
3D structural investigations are described by X-ray laminography studies of sandwich shell segments, made of a PVC foam core, covered by non-crimp fabric glass fibre composite lay-ups processed by vacuum assisted resin infusion of epoxy. The specific scope of this study is to image transversal flaws within the foam core (joints) and of single ply overlaps. Test flaws were purposely implemented in order to simulate typical failure under cyclic load. In a dedicated test rig for shell structures, the flaw evolution/propagation is monitored by thermography and optical 3D inspection of deformation. Due to the unfavourable preconditions for classical computed tomography as of large aspect ratio, the samples were investigated by coplanar translational laminography. Its limited range of observation angles of ± 45°, results in anisotropic artefacts about the normal to the sample surface, but the typical flaws are well visualized in the as-prepared state, in a state of early damage, and in the repaired state.

Post-impact evaluation at RC plates with planar tomography and FEM
Due to the wide range of applications, the easy production and the large field of use, reinforced concrete (RC) is a widespread building material. This variety of applications is reflected in a wide range of physical material properties. Not only therefor it still is a technical challenge to provide all necessary test conditions for experimentally reproducing dynamic effects under impact loading of RC structures. In this paper we present investigations on the thicknesses of RC plates under low and medium high velocity impact loading by a flat-tipped impactor. The planar tomography setup at BAM is used to visualize the impact damage and to characterize the damage features such as cracks, scabbing and spalling. Further, the comparison of tomography results with those of an applied numeric simulation analysis is used to verify the numeric models for future damage prognosis under impact loading. Using the results of both, the tomographic as well as the FE analysis, different damage features were investigated and compared regarding their validity. Crack damage plays a leading part and the significance of summarized crack values as well as their distribution is analyzed. The total damage value but also the determined damage distribution both provide an input for describing damage as a function of the impactor velocity and plate thickness.

Improved tomographic investigation for impact damage characterization
Reinforced concrete (RC) is used as structural material in most diverse civil engineering applications. For the variability of its physical properties it is still an engineering challenge to meet all necessary requirements for the prediction of dynamic effects under impact loading. In this paper, investigations are shown within the scope of quantifying and evaluating the damage caused by an impact. The experimental investigations are performed in the field of low- and medium-velocity impact. The chosen flat nose shape results in small penetrations on the top side and scabbing on the bottom side. The plate is scanned with an adapted planar tomographic examination after the impact, and the damage is analysed, afterwards. Cracks and spalling are made visible with a reconstruction. The numerical model validated on the tomographic results justifies the application for further predictions of the damage description.

Crack detection in reinforced concrete
Automatic segmentation of cracks using crack detection methods fails when applied on concrete with embedded reinforcements; it results in artifacts called false-detected cracks. We present a two-step approach to trace the cracks which reduces significantly detecting the false ones. In the first step, the reinforcements were found and removed from the 3D data set, and in the second step, the cracks were detected in the 3D data set free from reinforcements. To visualize and determine the structure and the degree of damages nondestructively, planar tomography as a special case of laminography was used.

Damage investigations of concrete under impact load using laminography
We examine the behavior of reinforced concrete components subjected to impact induced loading conditions which might be caused by vessels collisions such as aircraft fuel tanks The concrete plates were impact damaged at TU Dresden and shipped to BAM At BAM laminar tomography as the imaging method is used to determine and quantify the damage state An automatic crack detection method based on template matching is applied to find the cracks and we aim to develop a new method using machine learning Algorithms In addition numerical models are developed to understand the experiment and to predict the damage structures based on failure mechanisms.

Mobile Tomographic X-Ray Inspection
A special 3D tomographic algorithm was developed for mobile inspection of large objects. The method is based on a coplanar movement of an X-ray tube parallel to the surface of a digital detector array (DDA). Two different designs were developed and applied for 3D testing of welded pipes in nuclear power plants and large aircraft components made from carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP). The reconstructed tomo-graphic images permit the detection, characterization and measurement of the dimensions of flaws with en-hanced sensitivity compared to conventional radiography and UT.

Investigation of multiple impact-damaged reinforced concrete structures as a reference for liquid penetration behavior and tomographic studies
The structural integrity of outer reinforced concrete (RC) containments of nuclear power plants provides an essential shield against external hazards. If this containment is damaged by an impact event, such as an aircraft crash, the question arises to which degree the reinforced concrete containment still has its protective capability. This concerns both purely structural protection and protection against liquids penetrating the interior of the containment. Due to the dimensions of the containment structures, it is difficult to perform real scale impact experiments, so in the past decades plate geometries at medium scale have been used for investigations. Detailed investigations on the structural behaviour of RC members or RC plates subjected to impact loading have already been presented in Just et al., Hering, Hering et al., Bracklow et al., Hille et al. and Nerger et al.
The following investigations deal with the single and multiple impact event (first hard impact and/or subsequent soft impact) on a RC specimen, which provides the basis for further investigations. A description of the test setup and the test procedure as well as a presentation of the test results from the impact tests are provided.
Furthermore, the experimental program is presented, which the damaged RC specimens are to undergo to deal with the question of how much the impact-damaged RC structure has become permeable to liquid media, such as water and kerosene, depending on the intensity of the impact. The aim of these following investigations is to develop a test setup that can be applied to investigate the liquid penetration behaviour (LPB) of small, medium, and large-scale RC members.
In addition to the liquid penetration experiments, the damaged specimens are to be examined by planar tomography to obtain the damage inside the specimen. The combination of damaging event, fluid penetration behaviour and tomography should enable a comprehensive understanding of the damage to the RC specimen.
