Applicationrelevant properties determining particle performance and biocompatibility depend mainly on surface functional groups or ligands. Coating with polyethylene glycol (PEG) ligands enhances hydrophilicity and biocompatibility of nanomaterials, and enables subsequent binding of biomolecules. Hence, PEGylated particles must be carefully engineered and monitored with simple and fast methods.
