TY - VIDEO T1 - The BMVBW informs: Bridge deck surfacing for concrete constructions T2 - BAM-DVD N2 - From ancient times, bridges have served the purpose to cross rivers and valleys. With the advent of the railway in the 19th century, many more bridges had to be built. In the 20th century, bridges increasingly link up intersecting highways for car traffic. Islands are connected with the mainland, and in mountainous regions, entire valleys are spanned. The use of concrete for building and the development of steel reinforced and prestressed types of concrete facilitate engineering more and more ambitious designs. The demand for higher standards of quality and stress resistance applies not only to the bridges’ supporting structure, the bridge deck surfacing also has to meet the increasing standards of performance, durability and load bearing capacity.
