TY - VIDEO T1 - Asphaltic plug joints T2 - BAM-DVD N2 - The section of roadway between the normal carriageway and the road surface of a bridge or tunnel is called a ‘roadway transition’ or 'asphaltic plug joints' by engineers. Steel is normally used for these transitions but since the 1980s, asphalt has also been used. The cost of maintaining and cleaning asphalt transitions is low and travel comfort is relatively high. BAM has developed suitable test criteria and methodologies for quality assuring such transitions. A new set of rules has been established based on the findings which now forms the basis for the approval of asphalt roadway transitions.
