Wastewater treatment plants in rural areas considering energetic aspects

  • In areas with a rural, extensive structure in Germany, small wastewater treatment plants with biological wastewater treatment are operated as a permanent solution for the treatment of domestic wastewater. Due to a wide range of fully biological small wastewater treatment plants, it is often difficult for the user to select a type of plant that meets the requirements of efficiency, high reliability and low energy consumption. In the present study, data sets from numerous small wastewater treatment plant manufacturers, maintenance companies and public institutions were evaluated in order to be able to make statements about the performance and the energy consumption of the different plant types. Here, natural systems as well as technical plant types were considered. Finally, possibilities to reduce energy consumption are presented.
