TY - CHAP A1 - Winkelmann, Ralf A1 - Pokhmurska, Hanna A1 - Lampke, Thomas A1 - Pelz, Andreas A1 - Pfeiffer, Frank T1 - Study on abrasion wear resistance of arc sprayed iron based composite coatings with oxide ceramic particles T2 - ITSC 2014 - International Thermal Spray Conference & Exposition, Barcelona, 2014 N2 - In the present paper the results of the investigations on the improvement of the wettability between the oxide ceramic particles (SiO2 and AlZrO2) and the iron-based matrix are presented. As a possible way to overcome this problem, the deposition of thin metal bonding layer (for example, Ti) on the surface of the ceramic particles by means of PVD-method was suggested. For this purpose, novel technical solutions for deposition of the PVD-coating on the loose ceramic particles have been elaborated. The cored wires with the diameter of 1.6 mm in low alloyed steel sheath have been fabricated utilizing the PVD-coated hard particles as filling powders. Arc-spraying was carried out with the optimized spraying parameters. The microstructure and worn surface morphologies of the coatings were observed by means of optical and scanning electron microscopy. The coatings demonstrated the excellent abrasive wear resistance. Wear mechanisms have been discussed as well.
