The benefits obtained from these mangrove ecosystems include a variety of economic, environmental, and social aspects. However, mangroves in this region have been impacted in recent times due to various anthropogenic activities, including oil pollution. In achieving the goal of a well-managed mangrove ecosystem services trade-off, we have come up with the analysis of the cost of the value of mangrove ecosystem services in the Niger Delta. The results from the valuation of mangroves in the Niger Delta are comparable with other estimates obtained elsewhere in the world. Since many stakeholders derive their livelihood from these mangrove ecosystem services, the threats to the mangroves demand immediate and urgent attention through development of conservation policy options with the involvement of community members for mangrove conservation. Nigeria, the twelfth largest producer of oil and gas in the world currently had its political economy around the oil, after her complete deviation from an agro-dependent economy in the early 1970s. The switch from agribusiness to oil seems to be a better channel of augmenting Nigeria’s income, but the joy of this new innovation was shortened due to various community crises and environment issues. This chapter seeks to access the harm of over dependency on oil in Nigeria, the social-political and economic consequences of the oil boom in Nigeria since its discovery. The study showed that the political fighters continue to control the people and the political procedures to achieve their selfish plan. On the other hand, the public remained helpless and wallow in abject poverty. The Nigerian state that could have intervened to provide remedy for the oil-related problem is culpable of high-level corruption, awful administration, and political instability. The ecosystem is important for the different services it provides, such as agriculture, industry, fishing, food, drinking water, wood, shelter, medicine, employment, and esthetics. Petroleum production in the region is a major environmental issue, which impacts on the sustainable provision of these ecosystem services (ES), particularly among the resource-dependent poor communities. There is a paucity of information on the key drivers, including soil and coastal erosion, flooding, air and water pollution, gas flaring, and climate change. These problems occur at different gradients and variations in space and time that is not well understood. Mapping and modeling are important for the understanding of these drivers, including risks and trends over time. There are now different tools and methods for assessing ecosystem health across diverse landscapes, which include the use of remote sensing and geographical information systems, ecological models, participatory approaches, and expert opinion. Ecological models such as Ecosim with Ecopath, IMPACT, PODIUM, WaterGAP, and EcoServ-GIS are simplified mathematical expression of the complex interactions between the physical, biological, and socioeconomic elements of the ecosystems. Mapping and modeling of ES would enable evaluation of costs and benefits of various ES and provide useful information for decision makers for proper planning. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is considered in many quarters to be an important tool in factoring climate-related components in the planning and design of a project. However, many recent researches have shown that EIA has, so far, struggled in the attempt to incorporate climate change into its procedures. This study is an attempt to evaluate the level of consideration of climate change in the EIA process in Nigeria, with particular focus on the Niger Delta region. The result of this quantitative research shows that there is a poor political will to address climate change, as reflected in the absence of climate change requirements in the EIA guidelines of Nigeria. Although, there is a growing trend in the pattern of consideration of climate change in the EIA procedures, the overall level of consideration is still a far cry from the requirements if EIA is to be considered to be an important tool in addressing challenges of climate change in Nigeria. Thus, biofuel development has received tremendous support from all quarters in response to quest for energy security and clean energy. However, the rapid rate of development of bioenergy has also raised concern chiefly for its nexus with food security with some scholar considering it a disaster especially for countries in the global south. Due to her prime location along the equator, and the generally favourable climatic conditions all through the year, Nigeria is considered to have enormous potential for bioenergy development. Unfortunately, Nigeria is also highly ranked in the 2018 Global Hunger Index (GHI) of International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). This is a very broad category of products and substances that often bring innovative solutions in the field of fertilization and crop protection. The objective of this study is to improve the production of the market garden where tomato plants in nurseries from powders of two green algae Ulva lactuca and Ulva intestinalis, harvested as biofertilizers in the west coast of Mostaganem province at North-Western Algeria. They have minimal effects on the environment, including soil, subterranean water, river, and estuary ecosystems such as the Cheliff river, biodiversity, and global warming. The experimental part was carried out following the method of extraction of algae and used as a biofertilizer on the tomato to its simplicity and accuracy, which is the subject of the study of the germination, growth, and the development of young plants. The results show that the powders obtained from the Ulva lactuca algae and used as biofertilizers are the most suitable to increase the growth of plants in the case of tomato in our study, which means a remarkable increase in stem length by compared to the other treatments with averages of 17.75 cm, 16 cm length of stem/plant, while the other treatments (Enteromorpha intestinalis, mixture, and reference) gave 14.75; 13.87; 13.65 cm length of stem/plant. Monitoring took place in five stations (Sokhra, Hadjaj, Salamandre, and Sonactere) during the wet and dry seasons in 2014 respectively, including Cheliff estuary as a reference site and the other four coastal sites. We detected in total, four taxa comprising 392 individuals. The taxa having the highest frequency rate were Nereis virens (62%), Nereis diversicolor (58%), Nereis falsa (43%), and Nereis pelagica (51%). We noted low Polychaeta abundances in Sokhra and Hadjaj stations, in the Eastern area of Cheliff Estuary with a high pH, OS, DO, and Chlorophyll “a”. Cheliff Estuary has high nutrients, N. diversicolor, and N. virens values. The sites Salamandre and Sonactere in the Western part of the Cheliff Estuary have high BOD, COD, PO4, suspended solids, turbidity, N. pelagica, and N. falsa. The data monitoring and analysis of the stations based on similarities of Annelida communities show the link between the components of the environment and the biodiversity abundance. Consequently, these initiatives play pivotal roles in enhancing resource sustainability within the seafood sector. However, despite their importance, the intricacies of how non-state seafood sustainability schemes operate within the blue economy remain unclear. Therefore, this study examines the interactions of these non-state actors within institutional, social, and ecological contexts to improve common resource management. This study is based on a comprehensive review of secondary data from the literature to delineate its scope. In recent years, there has been an increase in non-state initiatives advocating for sustainable fisheries and the sustainable use of natural blue resources. These initiatives claimed to exhibit established institutional, social, and ecological synergies, yet the foundational principles guiding them remain underexplored. It is essential to note that addressing the long-term sustainability issues in the socioeconomic-ecological systems requires the resilience shift of non-state initiatives. Thus, non-state institutions must strengthen their resilience management capabilities by collaborating with other actors, networks, and institutions to promote sustainable development. This collaboration fosters societal understanding of these resilience factors, which are portrayed in this study. Finally, effective resource management necessitates a delicate balance between economic considerations and environmental preservation, supporting the sustainability of common resources. It is imperative to deepen our understanding of the interplay between the socioeconomic and ecological facets of these systems to ensure that our environmental laws serve as the proper framework for effective resource regulation and management.
