T1 - Damage analysis and damage prevention on an extrusion line T2 - “Machine-building and Energy: New Concepts and Technologies” International Scientific-practical Conference materials, December 2-3, 2021, AzTU, Baku, Azerbaijan N2 - In the following parts, a damage analysis of an extrusion line is presented. An important point is the recording of the damage and the consideration of all facts around the operation and the history of the machine. The investigations in the laboratory confirmed the facts gathered in the hypothesis [1]. The main cause to be assumed is the age of the machine and the resulting load changes, in connection with the additional holes and the carbide concentration. By an unfavourable coincidence, a borehole was drilled in a place where there was a high concentration of carbides. From the already partially corroded fracture edges, it can be assumed that it was a gradual process until the final fracture of the component occurred. The fracture of the component could be prevented in the future by a different maintenance strategy for machines of the same construction [2]. The values for the axial clearance were too low, which turned out to be the cause of the damage. DIN 22112 part 2 only lists limit values for the axial displacement of rollers up to a bearing size of 6306. An evaluation of idlers with larger bearings in terms of quality was not possible until now. Based on the results, a new axial test device was developed and comparative tests were carried out on the rollers using the test device from DIN 22112 Part 3.
