In the individual manual-therapeutic treatment mobilizing techniques are mainly used in the spinal column. The target of this study is to demonstrate the change in segmental mobility of the thoracic spine with asymptomatic subjects. For that an anterior mobilization of the Evjenth/Kaltenborn concept was used. 15 subjects were examined concerning segmental limitations. 11 subjects were included in the study. The subjects had no complaints or preexisting diseases in the spinal column. Their limited segments in area of the thoracic spine were mobilized on two days of treatment with 5 repetitions and a duration of 50 seconds. In the first treatment a steady pressure of 100 N was applied by using a mobilization wedge. In the second the pressure increased to 140 N. The measurement of the mobility was carried out with the MediMouse method. In the functional tests of the lateral and frontal finger-to-ground distance as well as the thoracic respiratory mobility, the results of both treatments confirmed a significant practical relevance of the manual-therapeutic mobilization treatment of the thoracic spine. Segmental mobility improvements were also seen, but they need further investigation with regard to the sustainability of the measurement results.}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{PrillSchulzKowaletal., author = {Prill, Robert and Schulz, Robert and Kowal, Cindy and Vorwerg, Susan and Michel, Sven}, title = {Measurement of the hydration-status of the lumbar discs. It is suggested that approximately 40\% of chronic low back pain (CLBP) is disc related in form of internal disc disruptions. Dehydration of the disc leads to stress concentrations in the disc itself and apophyseal joints. Upright-MRI is likely to become the 'gold-standard'-measurement for determination of IVD heights, its practical usability will remain limited because of its high cost and its low availability. The aim of this study is to investigate the accuracy and reliability of the measurement of the height of the spine with the 3D-Bodyscanner. Therefore, the reliability of different measurement settings (S) had to be investigated. S1: At first it was investigated, if the length of the spine can be measured reliable with the 3D-Bodyscanner when the same person is measured twice without moving between the measurements. The reliability and the first tester influenced bias is estimated. S2: The same person was measured after the person moved from the chair in between both measurements. S3: The participants were measured twice and the markers were renewed between both measurements. Furthermore, the standard error of measurement (SEm) was estimated to compare the accuracy of this measurement with expectable changes in spinal height in daily live and different research tasks . 14 healthy men and 14 healthy women participated in this study. The following pearson correlation coefficients (r) and SEms resulted from the different measurement settings: S1: The measurement of the spinal length in humans that did not move in between the two measurements correlated with r=0.99. This resulted in a SEm of 3.5mm. S2: The measurement of the spinal length in humans that moved in between the measurements but kept the same markers on their spine correlated with r=0.98. This resulted in a SEm of 4.1mm. S3: The measurement of the spinal length in humans that moved in between the measurements and got new markers applied on their spine correlated with r=0.95. This resulted in a SEm of 7.1mm. The measurement of the spinal height with the VITRONIC 3D-Bodyscanner appears to be highly reliable, especially if the markers do not have to be renewed for the retest (S1 and S2). The accuracy of this measurement method seems to be high enough to measure the exercise- or traction induced height changes in the spine. In the case of measuring the height change that is induced by 10 minutes of different types of positioning, the change is maybe to small to be detected. Even if the markers have to be renewed, the accuracy is still discussable to measure diurnal height changes. In conclusion, the 3D-Bodayscanner appears to be a more cost-effective alternative for the measurement of specific segments of the spine than MRI and a practicable alternative for science in the field of de- and rehydration.}, language = {en} } @misc{GennermannBraunMartinetal., author = {Gennermann, Thoralf and Braun, Alexander and Martin, Titus and Michel, Sven and Vorwerg, Susan}, title = {Influence of five-week workout of postural control in the Spacecurl on the balance ability}, series = {The International Disabled People`s Day - XXIIIth edition - Life without Pain / Healthy Children - Healthy Europe}, journal = {The International Disabled People`s Day - XXIIIth edition - Life without Pain / Healthy Children - Healthy Europe}, publisher = {Oficyna Wydawnicza Klubu Literackiego "Inspiracje"}, address = {Zgorzelec}, isbn = {978-83-88380-75-4}, pages = {133}, abstract = {After traumata and other injuries of the lower limps often balance based sensory-motor workout is carried out. Our current research project should analyze the workout efficiency of the Spacecurl on the postural control related to the balance ability of the subjects. Coincident, the project should draw conclusions about the exercise methodology. For that reasons, the realized trial is a preinvestigation of 10 unaffected students. All students were randomly divided into a group with Spacecurl workout (n = 5 ; age: 23.6 ± 1.82 years) and one control group without intervention (n = 5 ; age 24.0 ± 1.87 years). The intervention group has accomplished two 15-minute workouts per week in the Spacecurl. During the whole trial period of five weeks the severity of the exercise was systematically increased. A pre/post measurement of the balance ability (one leg stand left and right) was carried out on the Posturomed using the PosturoKybernetiktest from the company Haider. The intervention group achieved an improvement of 28,9\% (right) and 31,8\% (left) respectively. Striking are the various types of information with regard to the duration of application, shape and intensity. Because of the missing evidence for sensibility of application intensity this study aimed to determine influential parameters with moderate cold (11°C) for improving the intensity control. 15 healthy subjects aged 23.2±1.26 were tested. The parameters BMI, fat mass and muscle mass were recorded. All subjects received a cold application by the invented and developed IceCube at the right knee joint for 15 minutes. The temperature was measured for six times with an infrared thermometer at five standardized points of the knee joint. During application and till the last measurement subjects were immobilized. The applied cold application resulted in a significant decrease of temperature in all measuring points concerning the pre-post-comparison. 20 minutes after removing the cuff significant temperature increases in 3 measurement points, still keeping below starting level, were remarked. Furthermore it is evident that the temperature differences of the muscular measuring points are significantly higher than those of the not muscular measuring points. Besides a higher fat portion leads due to the isolation effect in relation to musculature to significantly fewer variations in temperature.
