Provided that material-adapted joining technologies are available, they can be applied in heavy-duty multi-material designs (MMD). A load-adapted approach was implemented into the new fully automatic and faulttolerant thermo mechanical flow drill joining (FDJ) concept. With this method it is possible to manufacture reproducible high strength FRP/metal-joints within short cycle times and without use of extra joining elements for the first time. The analysis of FDJ joints requires a simplified model of the joint to enable efficient numerical simulations. The present work introduces a strategy in modeling a finite-element based analogous-approach for FDJ-joints with glass fiber reinforced polypropylene and high-strength steel. Combined with a newly developed section-force related failure criterion, it is possible to predict the fundamental failure behavior in multi-axial stress states. The functionality of the holistic approach is illustrated by a demonstrator that represents a part of a car body-in-white structure. The comparison of simulated and experimentally determined failure loads proves the applicability for several combined load cases.}, language = {en} } @misc{SeidlitzUlkeWinterKroll, author = {Seidlitz, Holger and Ulke-Winter, Lars and Kroll, Lothar}, title = {New Joining Technology for Optimized Metal/Composite Assemblies}, series = {Journal of Engineering}, journal = {Journal of Engineering}, issn = {2314-4912}, doi = {doi:10.1155/2014/958501}, pages = {958501}, abstract = {The development of a new joining technology, which is used to manufacture high strength hybrid constructions with thermoplastic composites (FRP) and metals, is introduced. Similar to natural regulation effects at trees, fibers around the FRP joint become aligned along the lines of force and will not be destroyed by the joining process. This is achieved by the local utilization of the specific plastic flow properties of the FRT and metal component. Compared with usual joining methods—such as flow drill screws, blind and self-piercing rivets—noticeably higher tensile properties can be realized through the novel process management. The load-bearing capability increasing effect could be proved on hybrid joints with hot-dip galvanized steel HX420LAD and orthotropic glass—as well as carbon—fiber reinforced plastics. The results, which were determined in tensile-shear and cross-shear tests according to DIN EN ISO 14273 and DIN EN ISO 14272, are compared with holding loads of established joining techniques with similar joining point diameter and material combinations.}, language = {en} } @misc{SeidlitzUlkeWinterKroll, author = {Seidlitz, Holger and Ulke-Winter, Lars and Kroll, Lothar}, title = {Prozess- und festigkeitsoptimiertes Multi-Material-Design mit thermoplastischen Faserverbunden und Metallen}, series = {Konstruktion Zeitschrift f{\"u}r Produktentwicklung und Ingenieur-Werkstoffe}, journal = {Konstruktion Zeitschrift f{\"u}r Produktentwicklung und Ingenieur-Werkstoffe}, number = {11-12}, issn = {0720-5953}, pages = {75 -- 79}, language = {de} } @misc{KrollUlkeWinterSeidlitz, author = {Kroll, Lothar and Ulke-Winter, Lars and Seidlitz, Holger}, title = {CFRP coupling for towing and shunting trains}, series = {Plastics : the global application medium}, volume = {1}, journal = {Plastics : the global application medium}, number = {3-4}, issn = {2195-4577}, pages = {S. 7}, language = {en} } @misc{KolshornKrollSeidlitzetal., author = {Kolshorn, Kay-Uwe and Kroll, Lothar and Seidlitz, Holger and Ulke-Winter, Lars and M{\"u}ller, S. and Czech, Adam and Hoyer, K.-H. and Grothaus, R.}, title = {Erste CFK-Kupplung f{\"u}r Schienenfahrzeuge}, series = {Fachzeitschrift Lightweight Design}, journal = {Fachzeitschrift Lightweight Design}, number = {5}, issn = {1865-4819}, pages = {38 -- 43}, language = {de} } @misc{SeidlitzCzechUlkeWinteretal., author = {Seidlitz, Holger and Czech, Adam and Ulke-Winter, Lars and Kroll, Lothar}, title = {Thermomechanisches Ausformf{\"u}gen f{\"u}r thermoplastische FVK}, series = {Lightweight Design}, volume = {4}, journal = {Lightweight Design}, number = {3}, issn = {2192-8738}, doi = {10.1365/s35725-011-0027-6}, pages = {16 -- 23}, language = {de} } @misc{SeidlitzKrollUlkeWinter, author = {Seidlitz, Holger and Kroll, Lothar and Ulke-Winter, Lars}, title = {Heavy-Duty Lightweight Structures: Force Flux-Maintaining Spot Connections}, series = {Kunststoffe International}, volume = {2011}, journal = {Kunststoffe International}, number = {3}, issn = {1862-4243}, pages = {25 -- 28}, language = {en} } @misc{SeidlitzKrollUlkeWinter, author = {Seidlitz, Holger and Kroll, Lothar and Ulke-Winter, Lars}, title = {Kraftflussgerechte Punktverbindungen - Hochbelastete Leichtbaustrukturen}, series = {Zeitschrift Kunststoffe}, volume = {101}, journal = {Zeitschrift Kunststoffe}, number = {3}, issn = {0023-5563}, pages = {50 -- 53}, language = {de} } @misc{RueppelDornKukeetal., author = {R{\"u}ppel, Gernot Wilhelm and Dorn, Oliver Niklas and Kuke, Felix and Ulke-Winter, Lars and Seidlitz, Holger}, title = {Optical tape detection using an IR camera to create a digital twin of rotationally symmetrical wet-wound FRP components}, series = {Journal of Engineering 360}, volume = {1 (2024)}, journal = {Journal of Engineering 360}, number = {1/24}, publisher = {Index Copernicus}, issn = {3071-7507}, doi = {10.5604/01.3001.0054.8851}, pages = {46 -- 57}, abstract = {Wet-winding is used to manufacture rotationally symmetrical components such as pipes and pressure vessels, as well as non-rotationally symmetrical components like T-connectors.
