However, the intraspecific plant response to abiotic factors and the overall effect on tree growth and productivity is still under debate. We studied forest productivity for 30 Quercus ilex subsp. ballota forests in Spain along a broad climatic gradient of aridity (mean annual precipitation from 321 to 858 mm). We used linear mixed models to quantify the effect of climatic and edaphic (soil nutrients, topography, and texture) factors on tree functional traits (leaf and branch traits), and subsequently, the effect of such functional traits and abiotic factors on the relative growth rate (RGR) of adult trees. We used piecewise structural equation models (SEMs) to determine the causal effect of intrinsic and extrinsic factors on forest productivity. Our results showed that tree functional traits were mainly explained by climatic and edaphic factors. Functional traits and tree biomass explained forest biomass and RGR, respectively, which ultimately explained forest productivity. In conclusion, intraspecific variability of functional traits has a significant effect on plant biomass and growth, which ultimately may explain forest productivity in Quercus ilex forests.}, language = {en} } @misc{GarciadelaRivaIgnacioQuerejetaVillaretal., author = {Garcia de la Riva, Enrique and Ignacio Querejeta, Jos{\´e} and Villar, Rafael and P{\´e}rez-Ramos, Ignacio Manuel and Mara{\~n}{\´o}n, Teodoro and Gal{\´a}n D{\´i}az, Javier and Tom{\´a}s Mar{\´i}n, Sergio de and Prieto, Iv{\´a}n}, title = {The Economics Spectrum Drives Root Trait Strategies in Mediterranean Vegetation}, series = {Frontiers in Plant Science}, journal = {Frontiers in Plant Science}, number = {12}, doi = {10.3389/fpls.2021.773118}, pages = {10}, abstract = {Extensive research efforts are devoted to understand fine root trait variation and to confirm the existence of a belowground root economics spectrum (RES) from acquisitive to conservative root strategies that is analogous to the leaf economics spectrum (LES). The economics spectrum implies a trade-off between maximizing resource acquisition and productivity or maximizing resource conservation and longevity; however, this theoretical framework still remains controversial for roots. We compiled a database of 320 Mediterranean woody and herbaceous species to critically assess if the classic economics spectrum theory can be broadly extended to roots. Fine roots displayed a wide diversity of forms and properties in Mediterranean vegetation, resulting in a multidimensional trait space. The main trend of variation in this multidimensional root space is analogous to the main axis of LES, while the second trend of variation is partially determined by an anatomical trade-off between tissue density and diameter. Specific root area (SRA) is the main trait explaining species distribution along the RES, regardless of the selected traits. We advocate for the need to unify and standardize the criteria and approaches used within the economics framework between leaves and roots, for the sake of theoretical consistency.}, language = {en} } @misc{MartinLangendoerferZarrinetal., author = {Martin, Cristian and Langend{\"o}rfer, Peter and Zarrin, Pouya Soltani and D{\´i}az, Manuel and Rubio, Bartolom{\´e}}, title = {Kafka-ML: Connecting the Data Stream with ML/AI Frameworks}, series = {Future Generation Computer Systems}, volume = {126}, journal = {Future Generation Computer Systems}, issn = {0167-739X}, doi = {10.1016/j.future.2021.07.037}, pages = {15 -- 33}, language = {en} } @misc{BrzozowskiLangendoerferCasacaetal., author = {Brzozowski, Marcin and Langend{\"o}rfer, Peter and Casaca, Augusto and Grilo, Antonio and Diaz, Manuel and Mart{\´i}n, Cristian and Camacho, Jose and Landi, Giada}, title = {UNITE: Integrated IoT-Edge-Cloud Continuum}, series = {2022 IEEE 8th World Forum on Internet of Things (WF-IoT), Yokohama, 26 October 2022 - 11 November 2022 Japan}, journal = {2022 IEEE 8th World Forum on Internet of Things (WF-IoT), Yokohama, 26 October 2022 - 11 November 2022 Japan}, isbn = {978-1-6654-9153-2}, doi = {10.1109/WF-IoT54382.2022.10152292}, pages = {6}, language = {en} }
