These fuels can help reduce detrimental emissions like carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons and enhance octane ratings. Among these oxygenates, ethyl acetate (EA), a small alkyl ester sourced from biomass, emerges as a clean, promising energy carrier. It serves as a surrogate fuel to facilitate investigations into the combustion behaviours of biodiesel. Despite its importance, the literature knowledge of EA combustion characteristics is limited. Therefore, this study aims to broaden the knowledge of the combustion behaviour of this type of oxygenated fuel compound. In this study, we measured the laminar burning velocities of EA by employing a heat flux burner and a closed combustion vessel over the equivalence ratios of 0.7 - 1.7, pressures of 1 - 10 bar and temperatures ranging from 353 - 423 K. Further, we also measured the NOx emissions in exhaust gas of the premixed flames fueled by EA/air for the first time over the equivalence ratio of 0.8 - 1.2. Additionally, we employed a non-premixed counterflow flame setup for extensive characterisation of species and their concentration under diverse conditions encompassing various strain rates and oxygen concentrations. Finally, we utilized these newly measured data to construct and validate a detailed kinetic model developed as part of this work. An Eulerian stochastic field model has been presented recently by Dumond et al. [1] to simulate cavitating flows. Their model uses a fully compressible density based solver. Here we present an adapted version using an iso-thermal cavitation model adopting the homogeneous mixture assumption in a pressure based flow solver which is more relevant to engine simulations. A PDF method is used to represent a distribution of vapour volume fractions, based on which the Eulerian stochastic field (ESF) method is applied to perform a three-dimensional large eddy simulation (LES) of the cavitation phenomena inside an academic fuel injector configuration. The numerical model is based on a volume of fluids approach and coupled with a pressure based solver for the flow field, and is implemented in the framework of the open source C++ toolbox OpenFOAM. The result of the ESF simulation is compared against that from a typical single volume fraction solver for validation. In this work, we investigate possible interactions of this promising drug candidate with ATP-binding cassette (ABC) drug efflux transporters and cytochrome P450 biotransformation enzymes (CYPs), which play major roles in multidrug resistance (MDR) and pharmacokinetic drug-drug interactions (DDIs). Accumulation studies showed that ensartinib is a potent inhibitor of ABCB1 and ABCG2 transporters. Additionally, incubation experiments with recombinant CYPs showed that ensartinib significantly inhibits CYP3A4 and CYP2C9. Subsequent molecular docking studies confirmed these findings. Drug combination experiments demonstrated that ensartinib synergistically potentiates the antiproliferative effects of daunorubicin, mitoxantrone, and docetaxel in ABCB1, ABCG2, and CYP3A4-overexpressing cellular models, respectively. Advantageously, ensartinib's antitumor efficiency was not compromised by the presence of MDR-associated ABC transporters, although it acted as a substrate of ABCB1 in Madin-Darby Canine Kidney II (MDCKII) monolayer transport assays. Finally, we demonstrated that ensartinib had no significant effect on the mRNA-level expression of examined transporters and enzymes in physiological and lung tumor cellular models. In conclusion, ensartinib may perpetrate clinically relevant pharmacokinetic DDIs and modulate ABCB1-, ABCG2-, and CYP3A4-mediated MDR. The tooth root load capacity often is a limiting design criterion driving minimum face widths and hence the weight of gears. Consequently, strategies for optimizing the tooth root load capacity of gears are explored in this thesis. Two methods for tooth root load capacity analysis - a maximum tensile stress method derived from ISO 6336 and a local fatigue approach taking into account mean stress infl - are introduced and ompared to each other with respect to their applicability to optimization problems. A study with 2D fi element models of unidirectionally loaded sun gears reveals that the local fatigue analysis method should be preferred over the common approach of minimizing the maximum tooth root stress, since applying both methods as optimization targets results in diff nt tooth root shapes and a vast overestimation of safety gains when only tensile stresses are considered. Due to alternating loading, planet gears usually have a lower tooth root load capacity than other gears. Additionally, they are often designed with thin rims making the gear body lighter but also more elastic. Therefore, the tooth root shape of a thin-rimmed planet gear is optimized to explore possible interactions. The results show that overly thin rims negatively affect the maximization of tooth root safety. Hence, it is necessary to conduct multi-objectiveoptimizations of planet gears, which maximize tooth root safety and minimize mass simultaneously by optimizing tooth root shape, rim geometry and face width. The efficacy of this approach is demonstrated for 3D gear simulation models of spur as well as double helical planet gears. Pareto-optimal designs show significant improvements compared to the baseline design. Owing to the relaxation and hysteresis loss behaviors of IONPs when exposed to an alternating magnetic field (AMF), the composites demonstrate a magnetothermal response. Similarly, the excitation and relaxation of electrons in IONPs under near-infrared light (NIR) enable photothermic-responsiveness. In combination, two findings nurtured an observed shape-memory effect when the samples are under actuation by these indirect stimuli, where a shape recovery ratio (≥98\%) and reversible strain (≤7\%) are recorded. Moreover, the catalytic role of IONPs aided transesterification in the covalent network, demonstrated by successful repeated cycles of shape reconfiguration of the samples. Methods: A cross-sectional, nationwide telephone survey was conducted in November 2022. Anonymous data on internet and digital technology use, digital health literacy, and sociodemographic characteristics were analysed using descriptive statistics and binary logistic regressions. Results: The 1020 participants were aged 18-92 years, 53\% were male, 62\% completed primary or secondary education, 71\% resided in large cities, and 45\% reported a country-average net household income. Overall, 61\% reported internet use in health context via 1-4 devices. Among those, more than 50\% used the internet and apps to obtain general health information and less than 50\% used digital technologies for physical activity promotion or cancer prevention. Overall, 34\% were confident in using the internet for health decisions and 71\% preferred to receive health information non-digitally (e.g. on paper). Internet, app, and digital technology use were associated with higher digital health literacy and income, and residence in larger cities. Digital technologies were used for physical activity promotion by younger and for cancer prevention by older participants. Conclusion: The internet and digital technologies were predominantly used to obtain health information, but less often for health promotion and disease prevention in 2022 in Germany. While health app and digital technology use for physical activity promotion increased, the confidence in using online information for health decisions decreased in 2022 relative to 2020. High-speed synchrotron X-ray imaging with an acquisition rate of 20,000 images/second facilitates the identification of relevant process regimes concerning pore formation during laser beam welding of copper with a wavelength of 1070 nm. Furthermore, in situ observations with high temporal and spatial resolution present a unique database for extensive validation of a multi-physics process simulation based on welding processes using different concentric intensity distributions. These validated simulation results enable thorough comprehension of process-related pore formation based on the interaction between keyhole, melt pool and resulting flow field. The findings show that pore formation is driven by four different mechanisms: bulging, spiking, upwelling waves at the keyhole rear wall and melt pool ejections. Two cross-sectional surveys of internet users living in Germany were performed in 2020 (survey 1) and 2022 (survey 2). Participants were recruited from two different consumer panel samples owned by a market research institute (Cerner Enviza GmbH). Participants provided verbal informed consent for participation in the study according to the Cerner Enviza data privacy policy. Computer-assisted telephone interviews were conducted by Cerner Enviza using questionnaires with 28-30 items developed by study authors. Anonymous data were purchased and analysed by study authors using descriptive statistics. Associations between digital technology use and participant characteristics were tested using binary logistic regression analyses. Results: The participants were adult internet users (survey 1: n=991; survey 2: n=1020). Participant characteristics were similar in both surveys (47-52\% female, 50-55\% aged 40-65 years, 62-66\% with less than tertiary education, 42-45\% with less than country-average household income, 81-82\% residents in former West Germany, and 67-71\% residents in large cities). A similar number of participants in both surveys reported digital technology use in any health context (57-61\%) and rated digital technologies for physical activity promotion as easy to use (87-92\%). Digital technology use increased in 2022 relative to 2020. Specifically, more participants reported health app (63\% vs. 36\%) and digital technology use for physical activity promotion (any use: 44\% vs. 31\%; weekly-daily use: 91\% vs. 64\%) in 2022 vs. 2020. In contrast, digital health literacy decreased in 2022 relative to 2020. Specifically, less participants had high digital health literacy (57\% vs. 69\%) and were confident in using online information for health decisions (34\% vs. 43\%) in 2022 vs. 2020. Digital technology use was associated with higher digital health literacy and younger age (in both surveys), higher income (in survey 1) and residence in larger cities (in survey 2). Conclusion: Digital technologies targeting some health domains, such as physical activity promotion are frequently used and accepted by the users. However, digital health literacy and especially the confidence in using online information for health decisions appear to have decreased in 2022 relative to 2020. The benefits of using RRAM devices are demonstrated by implementing a NAND standard cell merely consuming the area of two transistors. This cell is about 25 \% smaller than the equivalent CMOS NAND in the same technology. We use these cells to implement a half adder, beating the area of the equivalent CMOS implementation using more sophisticates gates by 15 \%. Over 90\% of users rated such technologies as easy to use and useful to obtain health information, to support physical activity or to obtain information on cancer. However, confidence in using the internet for health decisions was low. Digital technology use in health context was associated with higher eHealth literacy. Application of the van Driest transformation may describe well the mean state but cannot provide detailed flow information. This lack-in modeling coarse and fine-scale variability is addressed by the present study using a stochastic one-dimensional turbulence (ODT) model. ODT is a simulation methodology that represents the evolution of turbulent flow in a low-dimensional stochastic way. In this study, ODT is extended to fully compressible flows. An Eulerian framework and a conservative form of the governing equations serve as the basis of the compressible ODT model. Computational methods for statistical properties based on ODT realizations are also extended to compressible flows, and a comprehensive way of turbulent kinetic energy budget calculation based on compressible ODT is put forward for the first time. Two canonical direct numerical simulation cases of supersonic isothermal-wall channel flow at Mach numbers 1.5 and 3.0 with bulk Reynolds numbers 3000 and 4880, respectively, are used to validate the extended model. A rigorous numerical validation is presented, including the first-order mean statistics, the second-order root mean square statistics, and higher-order turbulent fluctuation statistics. In ODT results, both mean and root mean square profiles are accurately captured in the near-wall region. Near-wall temperature spectra reveal that temperature fluctuations are amplified at all turbulent scales as the effects of compressibility increase. This phenomenon is caused by intensified viscous heating at a higher Mach number, which is indicated by the steeper profiles of viscous turbulent kinetic energy budget terms in the very near-wall region. The low computational cost and predictive capabilities of ODT suggest that it is a promising approach for detailed modeling of highly turbulent compressible boundary layers. Canonical shock-turbulence interaction cases involving Richtmyer-Meshkov instability at Mach numbers 1.24, 1.5, and 1.98 are simulated to validate the extended model. The ODT results are compared with available reference data from large eddy simulations and laboratory experiments. The introduction of a shock capturing scheme significantly improves the performance of the ODT method, and the results for turbulent kinetic energy are qualitatively improved compared with those of a previous compressible Lagrangian ODT method [Jozefik et al., "Simulation of shock-turbulence interaction in non-reactive flow and in turbulent deflagration and detonation regimes using one-dimensional turbulence," Combust. Flame 164, 53 (2016)]. For the time evolution of profiles of the turbulent mixing zone width, ensemble-averaged density, and specific heat ratio, the new model also yields good to reasonable results. Findings. Among all participants, 626/1020 reported internet use in health context and 278/626 (44\%) reported digital technology use for PA promotion. Most of the 278 users for PA promotion reported that such technologies are easy to use (92\%) and use them at least once a week (91\%). The reasons for using digital technologies were to measure own PA (74\%) or to find exercise ideas (57\%). Most participants reported using mobile devices (e.g., smartphones, 77\%, or activity trackers, 58\%) and rated device feedback as helpful (69\%). Among sociodemographic factors (age, gender, education, household income), health status and eHealth literacy, younger age was the only significant predictor (OR=.98, 95\% CI: .97-.99) of digital technology use for PA promotion. Discussion. Despite their availability, the prevalence of digital technology use for PA promotion is still low among adult internet users in Germany. Such technologies are likely to support PA behaviour change because users rate them as easy to use, their feedback as helpful and use them frequently. The minority of participants reported that they trust health websites when recommended by friends and family (39\%), that their social network relies on the internet for health information (35\%), that they consider the internet as the immediate source of health information (39\%) and that they are interested in digital health technologies (40\%). Most participants (71\%) reported that they prefer to receive health information in person or on paper. The preference for such sources of health information was associated with lower eHealth literacy (β= -.12, p<.001), worse health status (β= -.08, p=.026) and female gender (β= -.08, p=.033). Discussion The trust in the internet as the source of health information and the interest in digital health technologies were low among internet users in Germany. Such sequential dependence has been extensively studied in the visual domain, but less is known about its impact on time perception. Moreover, there are ongoing debates about whether these sequential biases occur at the perceptual stage or during subsequent post-perceptual processing. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging, we investigated neural mechanisms underlying temporal sequential dependence and the role of action in time judgments across trials. Participants performed a timing task where they had to remember the duration of green coherent motion and were cued to either actively reproduce its duration or simply view it passively. We found that sequential biases in time perception were only evident when the preceding task involved active duration reproduction. Merely encoding a prior duration without reproduction failed to induce such biases. Neurally, we observed activation in networks associated with timing, such as striato-thalamo-cortical circuits, and performance monitoring networks, particularly when a "Response" trial was anticipated. Importantly, the hippocampus showed sensitivity to these sequential biases, and its activation negatively correlated with the individual's sequential bias following active reproduction trials. Unfortunately, large analog circuits need to be designed and integrated in order to benefit from these cells, hindering the implementation of large systems. This work elaborates on a novel solution, namely, creating digital standard cells utilizing RRAM devices. Albeit this approach can be used both for small gates and large macroblocks, we illustrate it for a 2T2R-cell. Since RRAM devices can be vertically stacked with transistors, this enables us to construct a nand standard cell, which merely consumes the area of two transistors. This leads to a 25\% area reduction compared to an equivalent CMOS nand gate. We illustrate achievable area savings with a half-adder circuit and integrate this novel cell into a digital standard cell library. In experiments using a local gas flow directed at the keyhole rear wall, a reduction in spatter formation on the specimen top side was observed for welding of AISI 304. However, the interaction between gas flow and keyhole behavior with respect to the mechanisms and locations of spatter detachment, especially on the bottom side, is not yet fully understood. High-speed synchrotron X-ray imaging enables detailed insights into the keyhole behavior and the spatter formation to obtain a deeper understanding of the underlying mechanisms. During the reference experiments welding without shielding gas flow, the spatter detach from a melt pool swelling behind the keyhole aperture on both sides of the sheet. A gas flow with a low flow rate of 4.8 L/min reduces the spatter formation on the top side and the keyhole length due to the absence of oxygen affecting the surface tension. A swelling also forms on the keyhole front on the bottom side and small spatter detach undirected. Increasing the flow rate to 12.8 L/min elongates the keyhole, particularly on the specimen top side. The increased momentum transfer of the gas flow results in a periodic keyhole oscillation on the specimen top side. In combination with an elongated melt pool, the oscillation is directly correlated with the hump formation, caused by melt being pushed over the already solidified weld seam. Objective This study investigates differences in sociodemographic factors and digital health literacy between wearable users and non-users, whether the association with wearable use varies across age groups and its potential mediator. Methods A cross-sectional nationwide telephone survey was conducted in November 2022 in a panel of adult internet users in Germany. Assessments included self-reported wearable use, sociodemographic factors (sex, age, education, household size and income, and residence region), and digital health literacy (measured with the eHealth Literacy Scale, eHEALS). Associations between wearable use, sociodemographic factors and digital health literacy were analyzed using binomial logistic regression models in the total sample and with age group stratification, with a supplementary mediation analysis examining digital health literacy as a mediator in the relationship between age and wearable use. Results Overall, 24\% (223/932) of participants (52\% male, mean age 55.6 years) reported using wearables for health. Wearable use was lower among participants aged 65 and above, with lower educational attainment, living in 1-2 person households, with below-average household income, and residing in smaller cities or former East Germany. Wearable use prevalence is substantially lower in older age groups (18-40: 36\%; 41-64: 26\%; 65+:14\%). Wearable users reported higher levels of digital health literacy (mean: 30.7, SD = 5) than non-users (mean: 28.3, SD = 6). Stratified analyses indicate that the association between digital health literacy and wearable use varies by age group, with significant positive association observed in older age groups (OR = 1.00, 95\% CI: 0.94 to 1.07 in age group 18-40; OR = 1.07, 95\% CI: 1.03 to 1.12 in age group 41-64; OR = 1.11, 95\% CI: 1.04 to 1.19 in age group 65+). Mediation analysis indicated that digital health literacy partially mediates the relationship between age and wearable use (indirect effect: coefficient = -0.0156, 95\% CI: -0.0244 to -0.00791, p <.001). Conclusions This study indicates sociodemographic disparities in wearable use among the German population and differences in digital health literacy between wearable users and non-users. A generational divide in wearable use was identified, with older adults being less likely to embrace this technology. This was especially true for older adults with lower digital health literacy. Previous studies investigating maize crop models demonstrated considerable error in the simulation of water use, and no similar evaluation of wheat crop models exists. The aims of this study were to (1) evaluate wheat crop models' performance in reproducing observed daily evapotranspiration (ET) for Mediterranean and semi-arid environments, and (2) identify factors and processes associated with model error and uncertainty. These were assessed with an ensemble of wheat crop models for two experiments, one conducted in Bushland, Texas, USA (three seasons, deficit and full irrigation) and another in Avignon, France (four rainfed seasons) with winter bread and durum wheat, respectively. Models were calibrated with all observed data for crop growth. The model ensemble median underestimated water use in all environments evaluated, suggesting a systematic bias. The relative error in underestimating daily ET was constant across levels of atmospheric evaporative demand; therefore, the absolute error was greater for days with larger evaporative demand. This implies errors in the soil water balance increase more rapidly under high evaporative demand conditions. Using a potential versus reference crop evapotranspiration approach did not explain relative model performance. However, the sensitivity analysis indicated that simulation of atmospheric evaporative demand terms explained much more uncertainty in seasonal water use than terms related to soil depth or root growth. Errors in simulated leaf area index were associated with errors in daily simulated ET, but the relationship varied with the growth stage.
