The study was done in an initial ecosystem, namely an artificially constructed catchment on Pleistocene sands in eastern Germany. The import and export of seeds (including soil seed bank and seed rain), the development of vegetation cover and the population size of all pioneer species were recorded in 2005-2009. The interplay between the spatial distribution of seed rain and the prevailing wind direction provide evidence that seeds of Conyza canadensis (Asteraceae) first and to a considerable amount left the developing ecosystem. A change from a sink to source dynamics was detected already in the first year of both the existence of the site and occurrence of C. canadensis individuals within the site. Population patterns at the landscape unit scale demonstrated extensive auto-correlations in the coverage of this invasive plant at first. Our results underline the pioneer traits of C. canadensis as a prolific seeder and excellent wind disperser, which enables this species to become rapidly dominant over relatively large areas.}, language = {en} } @misc{GerwinSchaafBiemeltetal., author = {Gerwin, Werner and Schaaf, Wolfgang and Biemelt, Detlef and Winter, S. and Fischer, Annette and Veste, Maik and H{\"u}ttl, Reinhard F.}, title = {Overview and first results of ecological monitoring at the artificial watershed Chicken Creek (Germany)}, series = {Physics and Chemistry of the Earth}, volume = {36}, journal = {Physics and Chemistry of the Earth}, number = {1-4}, issn = {1873-5193}, pages = {61 -- 73}, language = {en} } @misc{MazurSchoenheinzBiemeltetal., author = {Mazur, Kai and Schoenheinz, Dagmar and Biemelt, Detlef and Schaaf, D. and Gr{\"u}newald, Uwe}, title = {Observation of hydrological processes and structures in the artificial Chicken Creek catchment}, series = {Physics and Chemistry of the Earth}, volume = {36}, journal = {Physics and Chemistry of the Earth}, number = {1-4}, issn = {1873-5193}, pages = {74 -- 86}, language = {en} } @incollection{BiemeltSchaafNenov, author = {Biemelt, Detlef and Schaaf, Wolfgang and Nenov, Rossen}, title = {Water budget components}, series = {The artificial catchment Chicken Creek - initial ecosystem development 2005-2010}, booktitle = {The artificial catchment Chicken Creek - initial ecosystem development 2005-2010}, editor = {Elmer, Michael and Schaaf, Wolfgang and Biemelt, Detlef and Gerwin, Werner and H{\"u}ttl, Reinhard F.}, publisher = {FZLB}, address = {Cottbus}, pages = {33 -- 54}, language = {en} } @incollection{ElmerSchaafBiemeltetal., author = {Elmer, Michael and Schaaf, Wolfgang and Biemelt, Detlef and Nenov, Rossen and Gerwin, Werner}, title = {Introduction}, series = {The artificial catchment Chicken Creek - initial ecosystem development 2005-2010}, booktitle = {The artificial catchment Chicken Creek - initial ecosystem development 2005-2010}, editor = {Elmer, Michael and Schaaf, Wolfgang and Biemelt, Detlef and Gerwin, Werner and H{\"u}ttl, Reinhard F.}, publisher = {FZLB}, address = {Cottbus}, pages = {1 -- 10}, language = {de} } @inproceedings{SchaafBiemeltFischeretal., author = {Schaaf, Wolfgang and Biemelt, Detlef and Fischer, Anton and Gerwin, Werner}, title = {Chicken Creek after five years: what changed?}, series = {EGU General Assembly 2011, Vienna, Austria, 03 - 08 April 2011}, booktitle = {EGU General Assembly 2011, Vienna, Austria, 03 - 08 April 2011}, language = {en} } @incollection{ElmerBiemeltGerwinetal., author = {Elmer, Michael and Biemelt, Detlef and Gerwin, Werner and Hoberg, Karin and Kleeberg, Andreas and Lessmann, Dieter and Schaaf, Wolfgang and Schneider, Anna and Zaplata, Markus K. and H{\"u}ttl, Reinhard F.}, title = {Conclusions}, series = {The artificial catchment Chicken Creek - initial ecosystem development 2005-2010}, booktitle = {The artificial catchment Chicken Creek - initial ecosystem development 2005-2010}, editor = {Elmer, Michael and Schaaf, Wolfgang and Biemelt, Detlef and Gerwin, Werner and H{\"u}ttl, Reinhard F.}, publisher = {FZLB}, address = {Cottbus}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:co1-opus-23730}, pages = {145 -- 153}, language = {en} }
