A so-called "material turn" occurred, which crossed various disciplines such as anthropology, archaeology, cultural geography, or science and technology studies (STS). Accordingly, the question of what material culture actually is has occupied scholars in various fields of research and has given rise to a theoretical perspective known as 'new materialism'. It promotes a new understanding of matter and invites critical questions about human relationships with nature and the environment through technology. This is accompanied by the search for a differentiation of binary thought structures, such as the divisions between mind and matter or nature and culture. The course offers an introduction to 'New Materialism' and its basic thesis, critically reflects on its methodological implications and explores different applications through a variety of practices. Some theories of 'New Materialism' are discussed through the objects discussed. These objects all come from the Wendish Museum in Cottbus, which supported the events for which this volume of our student research series is an important curatorial contribution.}, language = {en} }
