>Education permanente< für das Alter: Prinzipien einer sozialgeragogischen Bildung der Jüngeren
(1976)
Erich Fromm's fortuitous visit to México in 1949, and his meeting with a group of Mexican psychiatrists was the beginning of a working relationship that lasted for over 25 years. It left its mark on a number of community-oriented institutions, professional societies and publications, which are alive even today. This article describes some of the many activities in which researchers, psychoanalysts, medical doctors, psychologists, social workers, sociologists, anthropologists and re-ligious scholars were involved over those 25 years, and the continuing importance of those initial projects and institutions today.
A Sign of Contradiction

Aggression and Mysticism

Alienation is characterized by a sense of distrust, a lack of intimacy with others, and an aversion to self-knowledge. This condition results in overconformity, apathy, and depressed aspirations. Positive mental health involves a positive sense of identity, social ties with others and with values, and a sense of an ability to successfully act on wants and beliefs. Psychological reactions to social structures as a cause of alienation are investigated through an examina-tion of the work of E. Erikson, E. FROMM, M. Seeman, and others. Included are examinations of neurosis, manic depression, schizophrenia, and character disorders. The relationship between social structure and personality change is explored as it relates to working-class groups.
