Monografia zostaje oddana do rąk czy telnika w szczególnym momencie albowiem na marzec 2012 roku przypadły 90 urodziny wielkiego mentora polskich schweitzerowców prof. Henryka Gaertnera, zaś 2013 rok to czas obchodów setnej rocznicy istnienia szpitala symbolu L’Hôpital du Docteur Albert Schweitzer w gabońskim Lambaréné. Prof. Henryk Gaertner, wieloletni pracownik klinik Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego w Krakowie, członek wielu Towarzystw Naukowych polskich i zagranicznych, działacz społeczny i kulturowy jest jednocześnie jedynym Polakiem, któr y dostąpił zaszczytu zasadania w prezydium Association Internationale Schweitzer Lambaréné (AISL). Niesposób zamknąć w kilku zdaniach obszarów zainteresowań i działalności Profesora Henryka Gaertnera, aktywnego w sferach medycznej, psychosomatycznej, liter ackiej, historyczno medycznej, etyczno filozoficznej, kulturalnej, oświatowej czy społecznej.

Freedom, responsibility and safety are categories which penetrate each other. However, in the specialist literature they are more often examined separately. Freedom and security are fundamental values, which are followed by specific needs and aspirations of individuals and groups. They should be treated as specific desiderata of human existence. Complementarity of the analyzed concepts is indisputable, however, responsibility and safety are >secondary< to freedom. On the threshold of the era of hyper globalization only drawing the line clearly – which I will try to propose – at individual freedom and public safety gives a chance to ensure multidimensional welfare of societies. Fromm is of the opinion that contemporary humans marginalize themselves in relation to nature or in confrontation with their surroundings. Human beings have become reified and their potential has been changed into resources, which should be treated as assets and aimed at gaining the highest profits. International relations are brought to the role of alienated beings, and each one of them reaches the feeling of safety only by integrating with the community. As I have proven, maintaining social ties guarantees the sense of safety and, thereby gives the possibility to use one’s potential freely.
The author makes an attempt to reconstruct profiles of a modern humanist on the basis of statements entangled into the press and social discourse. The starting point is E. Fromm’s conception related to the productive and mercenary orientation that constitute the reflection of the social context of the texts under investigation. While conducting an analysis, the author uses the tools of cultural linguistics such as perspective, point of view, profiling and a linguistic image of the world, as well as the assumptions of axiological semantics.
The article explores the romantic face of cannibalism where the act of devouring human flesh is deconstructed as the ultimate expression of love. It focuses on the issue of love cannibalism and the romanticised myth of the loving cannibal which has been functioning as a successful cultural metaphor since the 1990s. The article sets love cannibalism in the broader context of necrophilia, understood both in terms of a sexual disorder and a morbid fascination with the subject of love in death, Finally, it compares the romantic representation of cannibalism in contemporary texts to the similarly romantic depiction of AIDS, the infection which is treated as equivalent with taking control of the lover's body. The core of the article is the discussion of two criminal cases – Jeffrey Dahmer's and Issei Sagawa's – which serve to illustrate the relationship between love cannibalism and necrophilia. The argument is further expanded to examine various representations of necrophilia and love cannibalism in contemporary literature and film.
The article constitutes a short analysis of the contemporary man who has to deal with widely understood changes, which is often the cause of adaptation difficulties and at the same time is the chance of personality development and gaining many personal benefits. A suggestion reinforcing mental hardness and increasing the chances to satisfactorily deal with different difficult situations is creativity regarded as the process of self‑creation. The text presents a short story of creation, as well as a description of the construct of hardness. Also, mutual permeation of a humanist approach to creativity and the concept of hardness which, seen as a certain part, create a model of personality and suggestion of the way to function in a globalized world for the contemporary man who, being >on the way< and still >becoming<, makes a constant transgression and at the same time, positively answers the requirements of its environment.
The aim of these deliberations is primarily to show the relations between creativity and peace. In my opinion, these pedagogic issues are very important, especially because they challenge the commonly held views that an ordinary man in the street cannot have any influence on the issues of war and peace. In accordance with the concepts presented in the text (Montessori, Rowid), each person should be aware of their individual causative power in the creation of peaceful order in the surrounding world. The development of proper attitudes and instilling in a human the sense of responsibility in this regard are among the most significant educational tasks.
The aim of this work is to interpret – by means of the postcolonial strategy of reading – a short story titled Mimesis, published in Paweł Huelle’s collection: Opowieści chłodnego morza. This kind of interpretation reveals a choice of new perspectives, aiming at the healing of trauma by explaining the symptoms and revealing hidden facts. In Mimesis by Huelle, this happens due to the character’s narration. The author of the article presents a process of the characters identity creation during their encounters with different cultures (Huelle exemplifies a multicultural mosaic in his short story). All the way through the imagery of the characters, the author of the article enhances the main axiological features and describes the process of identity creation, thus an act of liberating oneself from restrictions of one’s own culture.
The bachelor´s thesis describes the philosophy of three important philosophers Erich Fromm, Victor Emanuel Frankl and Albert Camus. The work is divided into four chapters, in each of them I always deal with one specific problem from the point of view of all these philosophers. At the end of each chapter there is some conclusion and a summary of these thoughts as well as findings of similar characters of their philosophy. The first chapter is devoted to the problem of authentic way of the human existence. There are presented the basic features of Frankl´s, Fromm´s and Camus´ philosophy. The second chapter deals with the topic of freedom, primarily, whether the absolute freedom possible is or is not. The following chapter talks about the issue of human society and its impact on a human. The last chapter describes the problem of death and suicide. Whether these authors accept death as the end of the human life or whether they accept suicide as the solution of the human life. In conclusion, I tried to summarize the similar points of philosophy of these authors.
The aim of my paper is to introduce individual theories of aggression, which are divided according to the factors having influence on human aggressive behaviour and acting. Basically, the literature is chosen from the works of Erich Fromm, Sigmund Freud and Konrad Lorenz. This choice enabled to divide the issue into three basic areas, that is: biological, psychological and philosophical ones. All three areas are elaborated further by the issue of the child aggression origin, in subchapters. The impact of aggression on society is also emphasized by Hannah Arendt, who is trying to specify roots of social aggression, and is looking for individual and social responsibility for aggression. The theory, derived from those researches plus from subsequent modern psychological concept, attempts to reveal causes of aggression. Easier understanding of aggression causes would enable to influence or eliminate factors causing/strengthening aggression, either caused by society or by ourselves. Such understanding is the aim of all scientists, who sacrificed their lives to research of aggression, a phenomenon so dangerous for human beings.
Celem artykułu jest próba empirycznej weryfikacji pogladów Ericha Fromma dotyczacych konstruktywnych i destruktywnych czynników psychiki ludzkiej. Fromm nazywa je syndromem >wzrostu< i syndromem >rozpadu< przypisujac im zasadnicze znaczenie w rozwoju człowieka.
