To describe how a number of personality theories and other general theories of behavior have incorporated the concept of creativity, 3 main streams of psy-chological thought--psychoanalytic, humanistic, and behavioristic--are reviewed. In the psychoanalytic framework, the ideas of Freud, Jung, O. Rank, E. Kris, and L. S. Kubie are summarized. In the humanistic area, the ideas of A. Adler, H. A. Murray, A. Maslow, C. R. Rogers, G. Kelly, and E. FROMM regarding the creative process are summarized. A common theme is derived from the behavioristic position that creative behavior is learned and may be explained in stimulus-response terms.
