Fromm’s Diagnosis of Industrial Capitalism: Comprehensive Alienation [

  • In view of humanitarianism and from a social psychoanalytic perspective, Erich Fromm analyzed the living condition and need of people, made a definition of sane society that should be in line with the need of mankind. Delving into social and human crisis at the back of abundant materials to industrial capitalism, Erich Fromm drew a conclusion that the society is not sane but alienated. In the pursuit of economic and technological progress, the society not only ignores the existence of human, but also makes the person adapted to the society. The social character of the possession and market makes the person morbid. [Author’s translation]
