The Origin, Dilemmas and Destination of Freedom – Based on Fromm's Freedom Thought [

  • Fromm focuses on the nature of human freedom and constructs a unique idea of freedom from the psychological and sociological levels. Freedom is a characteristic of human existence. From the perspective of individuals, the meaning of freedom has undergone three changes, namely, initiation, predicament and destination, which correspond to the three stages of individuation, namely, pre-individuation, individuation and post-individuation. In the process of pursuing freedom in different socio-historical contexts, people present different mental dilemmas and adopt negative escape mechanisms such as authoritarianism and mechanical ego, while freedom pursued through spontaneous activities such as love and creative labor can achieve positive freedom.
