Fromm in Mexico: 1950-1973
- Discusses FROMM's professional activities and theoretical work during the time that he resided in Mexico. FROMM's major themes during this period focused on internal struggles of dependence vs independence, regression vs progression, and incestuous pregenital fixation vs a loving, fraternal relationship. FROMM described the language of dreams as an open process, which grows with increasing knowledge about the dreamer. The Freudian concepts of the conscious and unconscious, defense mechanisms, and the understanding of dreams were seen as still central to psychoanalysis. The supreme fear was the fear of reaching out to realize one's full potential as a unique individual.
