N2 - This paper distinguishes three types of Freudians and argues that Rothstein incorrectly identifies himself as a compromise formation theorist. There is a short depiction of nonclassical Freudian position, and this position is juxtaposed with Brenner's version of Freudian theory and technique. There is a detailed critique of Brenner's version of compromise formation theory and the clinical implications of this theoretical position. The discussion concludes with a description of intersubjectivity and distinguishes two meanings of the term. One meaning is both compatible with and enriches contemporary Freudian thought, while the other polarizes positions and is not easily accepted in any Freudian position. Y1 - 2005 ER -
