TY - JOUR A1 - Domino, George T1 - Compensatory aspects of dreams: An empirical test of Jung's theory JF - Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Vol. 34 (No. 4, Oct. 1976), pp. 658-662. N2 - Empirically tested Jung's hypothesis that dreams have a compensatory function. Three dream reports for each of 62 male college juniors and seniors were rated by 5 judges on 15 personality dimensions and compared with scores on the same dimensions as measured by the EPPS and the Adjective Check List (ACL). Six EPPS scales and 10 ACL scales correlated significantly with their appropriate dream rating scales. Contrary to Jung's assumptions, all significant correlations were positive, and thus consistent with the theories of A. Adler, E. FROMM, and C. Hall, who do not consider dream content to be substantially different from conscious functioning. Y1 - 1976 ER -
