TY - JOUR A1 - Papiasvili, Eva D. A1 - Mayers, Linda A. T1 - Postpartum depression and attachment: Is anybody here? JF - International Forum of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 26 (No. 1, 2017), pp. 022-028. N2 - The paper presents a developmental and dynamic multitheoretical overview of many dimensions of attachment-related processes activated under the conditions of maternal depression. The clinical vignette (from the analytic practice of Eva D. Papiasvili) of reconstructive anaytic work with an adult patient illustrates the profound impact of maternal depression on precocious early differentiation between the attachment styles, of the depressed parent and the substitute caregiver, at the root of early >counterdependent< self-sufficiency. Through reconstructive interpretive work, first with enactments and then dreams, pertaining to not-remembered, represented, or symbolized events of earliest infancy, the patient is able to make a series of developmentally transformative symbolic leaps, restoring the capacity for intimacy, hope, trust, and pleasure. This breaks the intergenerational mother–daughter transmission of postpartum depression and related problematic attachment. Y1 - 2017 ER - TY - JOUR A1 - Papiasvili, Eva D. A1 - Mayers, Linda A. N2 - In their introductory remarks, the guest editors, themselves presenters at the conference >Parent–Infant Disturbance: Theory and Therapy,< introduce the philosophy and methodology underlying this interdisciplinary psychoanalytic conference and outline the multiple dimensions of the issue at hand, as they are addressed by the individual contributions to this volume. The paper concludes with a remembrance of and dedication to the victims of the Paris terrorist attack of November 13, 2015. Y1 - 2017 ER - TY - JOUR A1 - Papiasvili, Eva D. A1 - Mayers, Linda A. T1 - Introductory remarks by the issue editors. A story of beginnings and continuities JF - International Forum of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 24 (No. 1, 2015), pp. 2-7. N2 - The >Freud in Příbor< publication represents the unique record of all the papers presented at the historical symposium >Psychological Birth and Infant Development,< held on August 4–5 2013 in Freud's birthplace, the town of Příbor, Czech Republic. The papers are preceded by a word from the symposium chair, an address by the President of the IPA, and an interview with Stefano Bolognini. These >Introductory remarks by the issue editors: A story of beginnings and continuities< provide the historical-cultural and dynamic context for all the ensuing chapters. This paper reviews the objectives of the symposium, the core ideas of the individual contributions in relation to the unique beginnings of Sigmund Freud in Příbor, and the unique history of psychoanalysis in the Czech Republic. The backdrop of the multidirectional complexity of development, events, and the memory of the back and forth >après-coup< deferred action reverberates throughout. Y1 - 2015 ER -
